some notes for everypony:

Twilight Sparkle- i like gold on her design but not the absurd amounts everyone else gives her for some reason, so i made it an accent color. yes her magic is gold now too because of her eyes. her hair was also inspired by Mikan Tsumiki's cause i thought a more orderly version of her choppy mess would look good on Twilight, i was right. also glasses go brr, i think she looks cute in 'em

Apple Jack- while i love the long fetlocks people give her, i can't see her actually doing that because they'd be a pain to keep clean, so i did the opposite and had her shave her feathering off. i also put her hair up to keep it off her neck so she doesn't overheat while working. her cutiemark is my favorite part cause it's that family symbol where two adults and a kid make a heart, but i made it an apple instead, does a better job at showing her emphasis on family ties. no hat cause i like the idea of her hat being from her dad, and she doesn't want to mess it up wearing it daily so she wears it exclusively to special events

Rainbow Dash- i decided to make her less of a living lightening bolt and leaned more into her lazy side, going for the type of butch lesbian look that makes her feel like she wears tank tops and hangs out in the basement getting drunk and listening to rock. i wanted her to look like the only part of her she actually puts effort into maintaining is her wings

Fluttershy- i take great enjoyment in making Flutters a fucking lumbering giant compared to his friends (yes my Flutters is a guy), taking fluttertree and running with it. no notes aside from tall and green patterns and long hair and ooo pretty bronze jewelry. ig also his cutie mark is like- it was suppose to just be a paw and a butterfly but i accidentally made a parasprite with it, and instead of fixing it i just rolled with it and made it look more intentional

Pinkie Pie- THIS HORSE GAVE ME SO MUCH TROUBLE!! every part of my body was like "give her patterns! add things to her hair! it makes sense for her!!" but everything i did looked wrong and i couldn't get it to work. so i bit the bullet and made her really plain... and it worked. i don't know why but she just.... looks so much better with a really simple design, the hair texture does all the heavy lifting really

Rarity- of everyone, she's the one who'd have the long pretty fetlocks, and i decided to double down on that by not only making them so long you can't see her hooves, but also by making her have the longest and softest coat in general. she has the time and dedication to take care of such a high maintenance coat and she's gonna do it. it's even more impressive when you realize ponyville uses exclusively dirt roads. aside from that i think she deserves nice jewelry, and they use leather straps cause i think leather would be a ponyville fashion staple, she shows her hometown pride in her fashion

Spike- i thought it was weird he was so small the whole run, he should have had a growth spurt at some point imo, so i made him a bit bigger and more proportional to the older teen dragons, this is less of a redesign and more of a "make him actually grow up" thing, he's still small but not toddler small. this is the point where Twilight starts complaining about him sitting on her back cause he's getting too heavy. i also don't like how adult Spike ended up looking, but i haven't made a redesign of him yet

i have made an older alicorn Twilight design that i've been referring to as Ethereal Twilight, but i might hold off on sharing that for a while cause i have some funky hc lore ideas for the alicorns that i wanna refine a little before posting her. maybe i'll have older Spike drawn by then too, who knows

My MLP G5 Self-Indulgent Wishlist

-Pony designs: Less of a dramatic sexual dimorphism; make the stallions and mares harder to tell apart. There's probably some ideal middle ground between the long super-horse-like snout and the scrunched chiuaua-faces, something that looks like an actual pony while still being cute; something like Fleur-de-lis or the Changelings would be perfect. And as a personal aside, I would love to see a general return to more G2-ish proportions; no good reason for it, I just like the longer legs.

-Pony Designs: At the same time, I want more of a variety of body types and statures for both sexes; G4 had lots of different builds for the stallions, but the mares were almost universally cookie-cutter with only occasional exceptions. Give me a properly buff Applejack!

-Characters: I would suggest a new cast, taking lesser-known characters from previous generations to spotlight, but I know Hasbro plans to keep with the Mane 6. Which I get, since they're pretty well-established and iconic, whereas a new cast would take a lot more effort to develop and introduce, and there's probably trademark involved. Still, even if just as supporting cast or cameos, I would love to see some older characters like Ivy, Kimono, or Magic Star brought in.

-Characters: For the Mane 6, there needs to be a careful balance struck between changing them up and retaining the core of their character, and based on the leaks I'm pretty happy with most of what's being proposed; I do hope they figure out how to handle Applejack well, though. This is also an opportunity to bring back character traits from the earlier seasons of FIM that were forgotten about, or rough edges that got sanded down as the characters matured. I want salty, snarky Twilight back please T_T

-Characters: I know this is a dumb and completely subjective one, but please don't make Twilight an Alicorn again. Both because it limits her in a lot of ways, and because if she's going to be an Earth Pony this time, getting the wings and horns again would be even more unfortunate for cast balance and implications than it already was in G4. I want to see Twilight's scholarly and magical side explored more, instead of her library getting burnt down and never being mentioned again.

-Side note: this is definitely just me wanting the nostalgic throwback funtimes, but if Twilight lives in something like the Tree Library again I would be immensely happy. Anyway.

-Characters: I want Sunset Shimmer. I know she's a deeply peripheral character isolated to the EQG stuff, but with a reboot comes new opportunities; if she can be in the main show in some way, I would be super happy. If she's still rivals with Twilight, that would be even better; I want reasons to write more enemies-to-lovers for them without all of G4's baggage to deal with.

-Characters: On the flipside of that, I really really really really really hope they don't bring Discord back. I know he's popular and all, and the original two-parter with him was admittedly pretty good, but I didn't care for him being brought back, and came to dread every episode he was in. I know his return is probably inevitable, but I still hope it won't happen.

-Worldbuilding: I personally hope we get an all-new setting so there are no preconceived biases from G4 to get in the way, but if they reuse Equestria, I hope they'll still change things up sufficiently. Whichever it winds up being, I want it to feel more magical and untamed. One of my bigger gripes with FIM's later seasons was how Equestria basically became 'Pony North America' and the intrigue and danger of locations like Everfree completely evaporated.

-Worldbuilding: I must reiterate: Don't just reuse real-world locations with a horse pun in the name; at best it's still lazy, and at worst it risks bad or offensive portrayals of the real place and people in question.

-Worldbuilding: By the same token, though, I hope they wouldn't fall back on tired Tolkein/D&D fantasy setting tropes either, which given some of the leaks I'm at least slightly nervous about. So I hope they keep the technological anachronisms and juxtapositions, so it all still feels fresh and unique. I think the later seasons went too far with the modernity, but stuff like Vinyl Scratch's turntables, used only slightly more sparingly, can be the perfect kind of jarring when contrasted against old-timey trains and whatnot.

-Races: Forgive me for soapboxing a bit here, but FIM's treatment of species, especially paired with the aforementioned Equestria-as-United-States problem, was pretty bad and had some strong and uncomfortable racial undertones. Whether it was intentional or accidental I can't say, but either way this is a big area where G5 needs to do better. So first off, on the home front, show us Earth Pony magic! Though the fanon assumption is that it's there, AFAIK it has never actually been explicitly stated or shown that they have any, and the lack of unique features compared to the other pony types only compounds the problem, especially where Alicorns are concerned. There is a certain resulting sense of imbalance that could easily be rectified.

-Races: The other issue is in the portrayal of non-Pony sapient species as greedy, evil, or just plain dumb, in need of 'enlightened Pony guidance' to understand friendship, to the point that Season 8 featured a school for specifically that purpose? I hope it's pretty clear what's wrong with this picture. However, to be completely fair, this is a problem stretching all the way back to the pigs and cows on Applejack's farm in Season 1, so I'm not wearing blind nostalgia goggles here. So how to fix this? Have a more diverse setting from the outset, and portray non-Pony characters as equals. Don't make friendship and kindness exclusive to Ponyhood.

-General: I know I'll probably get some flack for this one, but I would like to see genuine LGBT+ representation. Lyra and Bon-Bon are a decent start, sure, but they're background characters. The season 9 finale spoilers reminded me there's still deafening heteronormativity in mainstream media. I know it isn't likely, but I would love to see some of the Mane 6 in confirmed relationships with another mare.

-General: Getting off of serious topics, just in general terms, I want the media to have a balanced tone. The leaks implied they're aiming for something more plot-driven and dynamic, which I definitely like the sound of, but I also hope they don't go too far with it; they should make sure to keep in mind who their target audience is, and not just pander to the bronies. Don't be afraid to let the show still be girly, and don't make the girly and serious aspects mutually-exclusive. Similarly, as much as FIM's mostly slice-of-life approach got old after a while, I hope they don't let the plot overtake the characters here; retaining a decent balance of SoL and narrative episodes should hopefully give the cast room to breathe and develop and get into lower-stakes shenanigans between bigger developments.

So yeah, that's what I personally am hoping for; I know not every one of these is likely to occur and I know lots of people may want different things than I do, but still. I may add to this if I think of more, and if anyone else reads this, please feel free to let me know what you'd like to see!

tell us about those who serves under Celestia - either on Guardians/Orphans projects or maintaining the city. what is it even like to be one of those who knows and participates in all the Mistral's horrors? how many of them are corrupted and how many are tormented by guilt? can you name more secondary/background characters who's filling these roles? like is Blueblood one of the scientists or some sort of priest?

The scientists and doctors who serve Celestia in creating Orphans and Guardians are among the world’s best remaining scientists. They have the technology, the income, location, and most importantly the reason to do these experiments and projects.

Being one of the individuals who brings Mistral Orphans and Guardians is a bit like being santa’s secret helpers: aside from the very select few folks who are known by name (like Celestia, who is the discoverer of alicorn, Luna’s the one who refined and actually made the drug in Tonic form, Scorpan’s known for being the founder of Celestia’s Haven a.k.a the creator of the Orphan procedure, Discord the “Father” of Guardians), no one knows your name aside from your colleagues and Celestia herself. You are the Mistral government’s secret, the workers who perform the atrocities the public doesn’t know about, and the ones who do this are either willing to ignore the atrocities for “the good of the city”, you ignore it because it’s a hefty sum in your pockets (the job pays sinfully well), or are guilt-ridden but are essentially trapped because once you join this team, you cannot leave it unless you’re willing to subject yourself to a memory wipe. Which Celestia would rather avoid, since the team is kept small for a reason. 

Many of them are willing to ignore the horrors they perform because, as much as some of them may be guilt-ridden, they still go about their job because they are just as desperate for an answer to cure this “magiclessness” in Mistral, including themselves. The work isn’t to just produce more alicorn to supply more of the drug, it’s also to find a “shortcut” to fixing their inability to use magic instead of waiting for nature to take control over it. That’s part of the reason why Rarity is so important like Cadance was, they consider them the “key” to that shortcut.

There are of course those who would much rather not do what they’re doing but it’s far too late to be released unscathed, so their only options is a voluntary memory wipe of the work they’ve done (which honestly isn’t much of an option in the first place) or to try and escape which uh…. doesn’t end well if you fail. They don’t kill you, they force you to keep working but any rights you previously had by being a willing worker is completely stripped away.

Some scientists of the top of my head:

-Scorpan, the original creator of the Orphans programming and the refiner of the conditioning process the children go through. He originally remained with the team because he continued to lie to himself that the experiments and projects were justified for the good of Mistral, but he eventually stopped believing in that lie and refused to work. He managed to escape Mistral, but because he’s a high-valued scientist, the search for him is ongoing, so he must remain in hiding.

-Sunset Shimmer, originally a student of Celestia’s and one of the project leads for the most recent Guardian series. Sunset, like Twilight, was somewhat being groomed to be something of a successor to Celestia should anything happen, but Sunset was far more interested in the science side so Celestia found Twi and allowed Sunset to pursue a career in the creation of Guardians. And at first she really did buy into the bullshit Celly sold her; this is for the good of our future, we do the dirty work so the population won’t have to, we’re gonna find a way to bring magic back to our people, then we won’t need alicorn anymore! For years she believed it (I mean, it helped that she was raised by Celestia), but when Twilight was grafted and Rarity was introduced into Mistral… something changed. Slowly but surely she began to see that what they were doing was horrific, no matter how much they tried to justify the kidnapping, exploitation, and murder of children (not all of them survive the process of being turned into an Orphan), allowing nearly the entire population to become addicted to a very dangerous drug, the abductions recently conducted to gain more suitable candidates for Guardian grafting. She stayed because she loves Celestia like she was her mother, she doesn’t want to believe that this seemingly saintly mare was a monster, but it was getting harder to ignore. Luckily for her, Mistral eventually falls, and with that, the decision is made for her. She survives, and upon learning about Scorpan, she joins him in his quest to right the wrongs they’ve committed.

-Blueblood, adopted son of Celestia (Celly’s infertile, she can’t have children of her own). Blueblood isn’t actually in on the atrocities his mother commits but he’s smart enough to know that Tonics (what alicorn is refined into) are highly addictive and dangerous. As such, he doesn’t use them. BUT he’s the lead of the marketing team for Tonics, he helps them get sold and persuades others to buy them because for all of his lack of scientific smarts, Blueblood is very charming and a smart salesman. He has a conscious; he does actually feel a bit guilty for selling something he knows will ruin someone’s life if used too much, but he figures “hey, their lives, their choices. They wanna get fucked by this stuff, then who am I to judge?” It’s also a pretty penny in his pocket, all the mares and stallions he can bed to his heart’s content (these people will do anything to get even a small dosage of Tonic. Anything), and the praise of Celestia. What more can a guy ask for…. right?

-Filthy Rich, not a scientist but a resident of Mistral and one of the richest stallions in the city. Where does he get his riches from? Why, his wife of course! The Rich family was always… well, rich, but they grew even wealthier when Nora “Spoiled” Rich found work as one of the scientists under Celestia’s leadership. And Spoiled Rich loves her job. She’s good at it too; she’s very intelligent and has helped engineer quite a few of the findings toward the invention of Tonic and some of the design problems Guardians had, so she is a valued member of Celly’s team of scientists. She has no qualms about keeping her work “hush hush”, only stating that it’s government business, and Filthy is all too happy to accept that because they are living the big life. not to say Filthy’s a lazy stallion; he works alongside Blueblood in Tonic marketing, but when not doing that he’s very famous for his alchoholic beverage company (which could be all the more popular because maybe he uses Tonic as an ingredient). He usually remains closer to home than his wife, though, who is often gone for long periods of time due to work. He’s the one who primarily raises Diamond Tiara, and he honestly is a loving father. Spoiled? Eh…. not so much. I’d like to think that Filthy’s actually a bit put off by Orphans; he of course doesn’t know the truth but the appearance of them makes him think maybe something wrong is happening to them, which Spoiled brushes off like no big deal. That worries him, but… he isn’t really sure why.
