What’s new in this release?

Aspose team is pleased to announce the new release of Aspose.Tasks for .NET 18.9. This release gives users the power to read activity codes for XER files. It also fixes several issues reported with the API that further enhance the stability of the API. There are some important enhancements and bug fixes part of this release, such as Scheduling of recurring daily tasks has been fixed, Time-phased data for material resources has been fixed, Issues with formula calculation have been fixed, After exporting to MPX, the number of task links generated was wrong. This issue has also been addressed, Exceptions while loading MPP files have been handled and Custom fields’ values are now formatted properly when saved as PDF.  This release includes plenty of new features as listed below

Aspose team is pleased to announce the new release of Aspose.Tasks Cloud 18.9 This release made changes in ExtendedAttribute type, such as Added fields such as ‘DateValue’, ‘DurationValue’, ‘NumericValue’, ‘FlagValue’ and ‘TextValue’  and removed fields such as ‘DurationFormat’, ‘Value’ and ‘AttributeType’ fields.The table on blog announcement page shows which field contains the value of extended attribute depending on ExtendedAttribute’s type. Thus in order to get or set the value of a custom field with ‘Date’, ‘Start’ or ‘Finish’ type one should use ‘DateValue’ field.Index parameter now can be FieldId as well as index of attribute in project.ExtendedAttributes collection. Set Image Quality While Exporting Project Data to JPEG & Enhanced Loading MPP Files using Java

What’s new in this release?

Aspose team is pleased to announce the release of Aspose.Tasks for Java 17.11.0.This release includes a new feature that allows users to set image quality while exporting project data to JPEG format. It also includes several other improvements as result of bug fixes that further enhance the API functionality. This release of Aspose.Tasks for Java API includes a new feature that lets users set the image quality while exporting project data to JPEG. The setJPEGQuality method of ImageSaveOptions lets users achieve this by providing image quality at a scale from 0 to 100, as shown in code sample on blog announcement page.  This version also includes other improvements in terms of bug fixes that add to the overall improvement of the API in terms of expected behaviour. These include exceptions while loading certain MPP files, Errors while converting Project data to PDF, Calculation issues with Calendar times set to 24 hours, Task reading exceptions while loading MPP files, Wrong calculation of Finish date and Percent Complete in MPP files, Problem with setting working days, Missing time span with SplitParts collection and Improvements in manual calculation of tasks data.  Below is the complete list of bug fixes and enhanced features included in this release.

Villanova vs. Georgetown odds: Advanced computer model locks in strong picks

Villanova can secure the No. 2 seed in the Big East Tournament — and may lock up a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament — with a win against Georgetown in the teams’ regular-season finale Saturday at 5 p.m. ET. Villanova is a 19-point home favorite.

Save Fonts, Images & CSS Styles to Separate Files While Exporting MPP to HTML using .NET

What’s new in this release?

Aspose team is pleased to announce the new release of Aspose.Tasks for .NET 18.7. This release further enhances the Project data conversion to HTML by providing capability to save html elements to separate files. It also fixes several issues reported with the API that further enhances the adds to the overall stability of the API. This release of Aspose.Tasks for .NET API lets users export the fonts, images and CSS styles to separate files while exporting project data to HTML. It also provides the options to assign callback functions to the export process for assignment of necessary parameters. These modifications have been added to the HtmlSaveOptions class of the API and can be utilized as shown in the code sample on the blog announcement page.  From this release onward, the obsolete members of ExtendedAttributeDefinition and OutlineValue have been removed. This is important to note as users will have to replace any such occurrences of Obsolete members with the new methods and techniques that have been available as replacement for long time now.  This release includes plenty of new features as listed below

2018 MLB win totals, predictions: Proven computer model says Mets will disappoint baseball

Alabama vs. Missouri odds: College basketball picks from model on 37-16 run

College hoops fans get a Wednesday night treat when the Missouri Tigers travel to face the Alabama Crimson Tide in a 9 p.m. ET tip at Coleman Coliseum. Alabama is favored by 5.5 points, up half-a-point from the open.

The Over-Under, or total number Vegas thinks will be scored, is 137, down half-a-point from the open.

Thunder vs. Timberwolves odds: Picks from model on 53-29 NBA run

It’s a matchup of one of the NBA’s most explosive teams versus one of the most defensive-minded as the surprising Minnesota Timberwolves host the Oklahoma City Thunder in a nationally-televised game at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday on ESPN.

The Timberwolves have won back-to-back games — including a 127-99 thrashing of LeBron James’ Cavaliers on Monday behind Andrew Wiggins’ 25-point performance. But they’ll have an equally difficult matchup against the All-Star Thunder trio of Russell Westbrook, Paul George and Carmelo Anthony.

The Timberwolves opened as three-point favorites and now are laying 4.5. The Over-Under, or total number of points Vegas thinks will be scored, has bumped up from an opening of 210.5 to 211.5.

Before picking either side of the spread, you need to read what the SportsLine Projection Model has come up with. This model has put together a blistering 53-29 run on its top-rated point-spread picks this season, returning over $2,100 to $100 bettors.

The model knows the Thunder are 1-4 against the spread in their last five contests in Minnesota, while the Timberwolves are 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 home games versus teams with losing road records.

The Thunder’s best chance to cover the spread — and win outright — will be for superstar guard Russell Westbrook to score early and often. He leads the team in scoring at 24.8 points and corrals 9.6 boards. He’s tops in the NBA in dishing the rock at 10.1 and is third in the league in steals at 2.0 per outing.

Versatile small forward Paul George plays big all over the court. He’s No. 1 in the league in steals at 2.3 per contest and lethal from 3-point range, knocking down 44 percent of his long-distance shots. He also averages nearly 21 points a game.

The model also knows the Timberwolves can cover the spread with their balanced scoring and uptempo offense, which averages 108.4 points per game. Center Karl-Anthony Towns is a superior defensive stopper who pulls down a man-sized 11.9 rebounds and nets 20.2 points per game. He also rejects 1.5 shots per contest and shoots 40 percent from 3-point range.

Another way the Timberwolves can cover is to play strong at home, where they’re an excellent 15-6 at the Target Center.

The Timberwolves will miss point guard Jeff Teague’s presence as he’s out with an MCL knee sprain, but Wiggins will be called on to come up big again. He scores 17.7 points and gathers 4.1 boards per contest.

Breaking down Ohio State and UCF’s chances against Alabama and Georgia

Did the College Football Playoff Selection Committee get it right?

It’s a question asked every year around this time, and while it’s a simple one, the answer can be more complex. This year, Alabama and Ohio State jockeyed for the coveted No. 4 spot with the Crimson Tide “clearly” getting the nod over the Buckeyes, even though there was previously “very little separation” between the two. 

And then there was undefeated UCF. While the Knights weren’t going to the playoff regardless, it was downright disrespectful for the committee to keep underrating a team that was obviously top-10 caliber, if not close to top-five. 

Post-New Year’s Day, we have more clarity on that one question. With Alabama getting back to its old ways and demolishing No. 1 Clemson, and with No. 3 Georgia getting outside its normal comfort zone to beat No. 2 Oklahoma in a high-scoring Rose Bowl for the ages, we have the two best teams. Plenty of people may not like that they’re from the SEC, but the results are what they are. 

But how would Ohio State, the team left out, and UCF, the underdog looking for its shot, have fared against the Crimson Tide or Bulldogs if given that chance in the national championship? The SportsLine simulator ran each of those scenarios. In conclusion, Alabama would win against either team easily, but the result for Georgia is a little more interesting. Take a look …

A few takeaways …

First, you have to suspend a little disbelief here because we’re going straight to the national championship; we’re not recreating the entire playoff field. These are numbers in a vacuum and should treated as such. 

Our SportsLine simulator already said last month that Alabama would beat Ohio State on a neutral field. In fact, the win percentage is the same. Nothing changed in the great debate for No. 4, post-semis. While there’s no doubt the Buckeyes had the better top-end wins in the regular season, the 31-point loss at Iowa is impossible to look past. Ohio State’s A-game was as good as anyone’s, it just didn’t bring it all the time. Even coach Urban Meyer admitted as much when he spoke with ESPN on Selection Sunday. And while the Buckeyes rolled against USC in the Cotton Bowl, they were sluggish in the second half and scored 17 of their 24 points in one quarter. If the Buckeyes were going to put their best foot forward, they only put it out halfway. 

However, the Buckeyes would be projected to beat Georgia. While we’re not going to rewrite history, it’s a more reasonable question to ask whether Ohio State would have gotten past Clemson to have that opportunity because of the No. 1-No. 4 matchup. The Tigers shut out Ohio State in last year’s Fiesta Bowl semifinal 31-0. But with the way Alabama’s defense dominated Clemson in the trenches during the Sugar Bowl, perhaps Ohio State’s defensive front could have caused similar havoc. 

UCF is a more clear-cut answer. The Knights have been one of the best stories this season, but the simulator simply doesn’t like them against either team, though the numbers are closer against the SEC champion Bulldogs. But, hey, Vegas didn’t like UCF in the Peach Bowl against Auburn, either, and the Knights more than held their own in a 34-27 win. Keep in mind, too, that Auburn beat both Alabama and Georgia in the regular season. Not that transitive properties mean much, especially during bowl season, but it’s a fun little anecdote to think about. 

The selection committee certainly has its faults, but all of the jumping through hoops and ensuing criticism is just noise as long as the question “did it get it right?” is followed with a “yes.” That will always be a subjective question by nature, but based on the simulated numbers above, it appears the committee did.

With no NHL stars at the Winter Olympics, here’s who’ll suit up for Team USA

The NHL steering clear of the 2018 Winter Olympics might not be as concerning to hockey fans — and players — as commissioner Gary Bettman saying it’s “hard to envision” the NHL ever returning to overseas Winter Games.

But America might beg to differ once Team USA takes the ice in PyeongChang in February.

That’s because, in a men’s ice hockey tournament that may or may not feature Russia, the U.S. will be devoid of its top talent for matchups in South Korea’s Gangneung Hockey Centre. Among the bigger names barred from participation thanks to the NHL’s repeated — and publicly chided — decision to sacrifice Olympics competition for an uninterrupted 2017-18 season are:

Who, then, is suiting up for Team USA? Here’s a look at some notables from the men’s ice hockey squad, largely projected from America’s Deutschland Cup roster:

F Brian Gionta: Team USA coach Tony Granato told USA Today this week that America actually boasts plenty of players “who could play in the NHL,” and the 38-year-old Gionta, a winger and potential captain, is probably the best example. That’s because he did play in the NHL, for 15 years. He’ll be 39 by the time the Olympics get underway, so you can see the disparity between relying on him and, say, an Auston Matthews, but Gionta is just a year removed from scoring 15 goals with the Sabres. He logged four straight seasons of at least 33 points to close his NHL career, which included stops in Montreal and New Jersey.

F Ryan Malone: Two months after earning a professional tryout with the Minnesota Wild, the former Team USA silver medalist gives the roster some polarizing potential. A six-time 20-goal scorer in the NHL who went from reputed Penguins rookie to Tampa Bay Lightning standout to New York Rangers castoff, he last suited up in the American Hockey League amid substance abuse issues and will be 38 for the Olympics, which he first intended to attend as a scout, not a player.

F Brian O’Neill: His name hardly made waves in the NHL, where he played just 22 games for the New Jersey Devils after coming out of the Los Angeles Kings system, but the 29-year-old found his groove in the Kontinental Hockey League and represents one of Team USA’s top scoring threats. A Yale University standout before dominating AHL competition from 2011-2015, O’Neill scored 16 goals in 56 games for Jokerit in the KHL in 2016-17, and he’s up to 23 points through 27 games in 2017-18.

F Mark Arcobello: Another Yale product, he opened the Deutschland Cup as America’s No. 1 center and brings limited experience from five different NHL teams. Now a leading points scorer for SC Bern in Switzerland’s National League, the 29-year-old lit up AHL scoreboards as a prospect for the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs, totaling 39 goals between 2011-2013 and logging a career-best 25 in just 49 games in 2015-16. He never played more than 36 games in the NHL, though, making stops in Arizona, Nashville and Pittsburgh.

D Matt Gilroy: A projected top blue-liner for Team USA, he spent parts of six seasons in the NHL starting in 2009-10 and now plays alongside O’Neill in the KHL. A 38-point campaign with the Spartak Moscow in 2016-17 was a career best for the former undrafted defenseman. He spent time with the Rangers, Lightning, Ottawa Senators and Florida Panthers over the years.

D Matt Donovan: Younger than most of the veteran players with NHL ties on Team USA’s anticipated roster, he was originally drafted by the New York Islanders in 2008 but struggled to permanently escape the AHL ranks. A University of Denver product, the 27-year-old Donovan appeared in 52 games for the Isles in 2013-14, but he never topped that total afterward, returning to the AHL and then moving to the Swedish Hockey League.

G Ryan Zapolski: The lead candidate to man the net, he’s another alum of Jokerit in the KHL, having played overseas since 2013. Before his stint in Europe, the former Mercyhurst College grad was named Rookie of the Year, Goaltender of the Year and Most Valuable Player for his net-minding in the ECHL, a New Jersey-based minor league.

As SB Nation notes, the true silver lining of Team USA’s ice hockey roster isn’t necessarily in the slivers of NHL experience but rather the potential for NCAA prospects to join the group:

Those potential prospects include Boston University’s Jordan Greenway, a Wild prospect, and Denver’s Troy Terry, a Ducks prospect. Terry might be familiar to you after starring for the Americans at the 2017 World Juniors, where the team won gold.

Ultimately, Team USA will finalize a 25-man roster that can be comprised of “college players, American Hockey Leaguers, and Americans playing professionally in Europe.”

Set Output JPEG Image Quality While Exporting Project Data inside .NET Apps

What’s new in this release?

Aspose team is pleased to announce the new release of Aspose.Tasks for .NET 17.11.0. This month’s release includes a new feature of setting output image quality while exporting project data to JPEG. Other than the new feature and enhancement, it also includes several improvements in terms of bug fixes that further add to the stability of the API. This month’s release includes a new feature setting output JPEG image quality while exporting project data. This is achieved using the JpegQuality property of ImageSaveOptions class as shown in the code sample on blog announcement page. Aspose team is pleased to announce the release of Aspose.Tasks for Java 17.1.0. This month’s release improves the Extended Attributes implementation of a task. The modification makes it easy to add lookup extended attributes to a task. It also fixes a number of resources reported by our valued customers with the last month’s version of the API. This month’s release improves the implementation of adding Extended attributes to a task and resource. The new implementation makes it easy to create plain as well as Lookup custom fields to a project’s tasks and resources.  Some important static methods of ExtendedAttributeDefinition class are provided under this new implementation such as CreateTaskDefinition, CreateResourceDefinition, CreateLookupTaskDefinition and CreationLookupResourceDefinition. In addition to the improvements, this month’s release also fixes several bugs related to the API functionality such as working with Extended Attributes of the API, Lookup values error while assigning to task, Large file size after creating task baseline, Saving Extended Task Attributes to output MPP and many more. Aspose.Tasks is a non-graphical Java Project management component that enables Java applications to read, write & manage Project documents without utilizing MS Project. It supports reading MS Project Template (MPT) files as well as allows exporting project data to HTML, BMP, PNG, JPEG, PDF, TIFF, XPS, XAML and SVG formats. It reads & writes MS Project documents in both MPP & XML formats.  Developers can read & change tasks, recurring tasks, resources, resource assignments, relations & calendars.
