Warnings: Some cussing, angst

Pennywise was finally defeated and we'd all gone to the cliff where we used to hangout during the summer's as kids.

I'd gone under the water and scrubbed my hair as best as I could, determined to get all traces of blood from my locks. As I resurfaced, I wiped the excess water from my eyes and smiled at the sight of all my friends splashing water at one another.

Richie began to cry and I swam over to him, pulling myself from the water to hug him.

"I miss him," he whispered to me.

"I know, Hun. I know,"

During the summer where most of us split up, Richie had come to me, asking questions about his sexuality. Yeah, he joked about stuff like that all the time, but we took an oath after our conversation that we'd never speak of it again… and we hadn't; not until today.

Richie, not one to cry very often, cracked a joke about not being able to see us and asking for his glasses. I watched with jealousy as Bev and Ben went under the water to search for Richie's glasses.

I've loved Ben since the day we met. We had shared one kiss when we were teens. He had come over to my house to do homework and afterwards, we had practiced some New Kids on the Block dance moves.

I made the first move, just a quick peck and we both got flustered right after. It was basically teenage angst at it's finest. And it seemed on my part, that teenage angst carried over well into adulthood.

Ben and Bev came back up for air, but they were too far away for me to hear the conversation. I felt like an ass for watching anyways, so I decided to take my leave.

"I'm going to head back to the Inn…"

"I second that," Richie said.

"Meet up for dinner?" Mike asked.

"Yeah, just no fuckin' Chinese, man,"

I laughed at Richie and gave him one last hug before diving into the water. I swam as quick as I could, not daring to look back.

I trudged up the steps of the Inn, ignoring the look the owner gave as me as my shoes squished and squelched as I walked.

My body ached, I was hungry, I was tired, but most of all, I wanted to tell Ben how I really felt, but one thing at a time I suppose.

The hot soak in the tub was more than needed. As I let the heat penetrate my sore muscles, I popped about six ibuprofen in hopes that would help with the stiffness of being thrown around like a rag doll earlier.

Once I pulled myself from the now murky water, I felt slightly better and refreshed now that my hair and body was squeaky clean.

I dress in clothing very simple; a black tank top, purple plaid button down, jeans and sneakers. My hair still wet, I ran a brush through and decided to let it dry naturally. 

Sitting on the bed I began to debate on whether or not going to dinner. I really wanted sleep and honestly did not want to adult at all.

A knock on the door had me rising from the bed, wincing when I felt the pull of tight muscles, "Just a second,"

My eyes widened when I pulled the door open, "...Ben,"

He smiled gently, his dimples deepening, "Sorry to bother you,"

"You're not," I replied, motioning for him to come in.

I noticed that he was limping and I didn't feel quite as old or bad at that moment.

"Listen… I need to say this. If I don't, I know I'll regret it for the rest of my life…"

I folded my arms, my defenses going up.

"Y/N… I've been in love with you for years,"

My jaw hit the floor, "Exsqueeze me, baking powder?"

He laughed and it warmed my heart, "You heard me,"

"Why now Ben? What brought this on?"

"Are you kidding me?" He came closer, taking my hands in his, "What I put into that fire… it wasn't that piece of paper that Bev signed in school. It was the photo of us at your birthday,"

My brows scrunched as I thought back and when it finally dawned on me, Ben mimicked my "Ohhhhh," face.

"I'm sorry that it's taken so long, but Y/N, I honestly and truly love you. I've never stopped,"

"But when I kissed you…?"

He chuckled and blushed a deep red, "Uhhhh, something popped up and I had to get outta there. I didn't want you thinking that I was some perv,"

I giggle snorted and blushed myself.

Ben took a gentle hold on my chin, ripping my face up to meet his. His cheeks were still pink, his dimples deep as he grinned, "So what do you say…"

"Hmmm, I don't know… you got the right stuff?"

"I'll be loving you forever," he smiled, quoting another New Kids on the Block song.

Ben slowly closed the distance, our lips meeting in a tender kiss. We slowly pulled apart, taking a much needed breath.

"You made all my dreams come true," I whispered, right before I kissed Ben again.

Getting Looney...Despite the Haters

Anyone here stoked for the upcoming Looney Tunes Cartoons shorts?

I know I am.

As a lifelong Looney Tunes fan, I can’t wait to see new shorts, especially since they’re looking to be a return to the frenetic, shorts format as opposed to some drawn-out feature film or action-themed TV series.

When that clip (the one the above image is from) leaked online, I went to the YouTubes to see how others felt about these upcoming shorts; not surprisingly, most of the comments were pro; however, one that caught my attention was one which declared that “all of WB’s previous attempts to revive the Looney Tunes have been terrible: Baby Looney Tunes, Loonatics Unleashed, The Looney Tunes Show, New Looney Tunes.”

-Wait, what?

I thought, “OK, whatever, this is YouTube. Haters and YouTube go together like peanut butter and jelly”, but as I read more comments, I noticed that this wasn’t an isolated opinion; several people genuinely didn’t like New Looney Tunes. Some people thought that NLT was as much of a disservice to the franchise as Loonatics Unleashed or The Looney Tunes Show.

Really?

New Looney Tunes was terrible? The show that evolved from Wabbit? THIS New Looney Tunes?

Look, I know opinions can and will differ. I know that not everyone is going to take to everything, I’m not delusional, but I really don’t get the hate for New Looney Tunes. You’d think after the much too subdued Looney Tunes Show that New Looney Tunes would be just what the doctor ordered: a return to the slapstick and high-energy wackiness. So let me get this straight: the entire time The Looney Tunes Show was on the air, you guys complained about the lack of slapstick and cartoon craziness, then we finally get a Looney Tunes show that has slapstick and cartoon craziness, and you guys still complain? What do you people want?! 

Upon further research, I discovered that a lot of the disdain for New Looney Tunes stems from the show’s chosen art style and aesthetic. To those people, I have just 3 simple words...

Again, I really don’t understand the hate-boner some folks get over a slight aesthetic variation. (But then, I didn’t mind the original designs that Jessica Borutski came up with for The Looney Tunes Show back when the show was called Laff Riot, so what do I know?) The original shorts never had one specific art style; each director had a different team of artists working for them, so the characters’ looks would change depending on who was in charge of said short. As long as you can still recognize the characters as who they’re supposed to be, I don’t see what the big deal is. Folks are free to disagree with me, but I thought New Looney Tunes was funny. It redid the zany humor while updating things slightly for a modern audience. 

Exactly what about this show rubbed some people the wrong way? The fact that Wile E. Coyote talked? He’s talked in shorts before.That they made Porky really fat? He started out really fat. That they turned Pepe LePew into a secret agent? Look, stand-up comedians have been joking that Pepe was rapey even before the MeToo movement; there’s no way they could do that now. It was either transform his shtick or just bury the character altogether. I think the New Looney Tunes team did a great job adding a new twist to the classic characters and stories.

Also, New Looney Tunes brought the crazy version of Daffy Duck back. I can’t hate on ANY show that did that. I’ve missed unhinged Daffy for so long.

It’s a trusim, you know: some people will always hate any kind of new content because it’s not what they grew up with. Some folks will always feel that what they grew up watching was the greatest and everything today is awful. These people are best ignored. And just you wait: if there’s anything even slightly askew in these new cartoons, even if it’s a minor or necessary change, these same folks will be hating on these cartoons too. It’s as inevitable as the tide.

So yeah, while I’ll gladly welcome the Looney Tunes Cartoons shorts when they arrive, I’m gonna go on record to say that I liked New Looney Tunes, regardless of how the characters were drawn or how the backgrounds in it looked.

Just keep Daffy Duck a screwball, and we’re good.
