Ranking the last 5 Star Wars characters I saw on tumblr based on their taste in literature

is this the best or worst thing i’ve ever posted?

ezra bridger: 4/10. Atrocious. has looked up out of curiosity whether fic exists about every rebel he knows and giggled. also browses magazines by the cash register. he would appreciate found family though so there’s that

anakin skywalker: solid 6/10, not the biggest fan of reading but he does tend to rent out action/romance/heist 800-pagers whenever they come into stock at the Jedi library. taken down a notch because he probably texts about his fav fics to his wife a lot and gets grumpy when people interrupt him

cal kestis: 8/10, probably into like junk store dime novels and insanely random stuff the other scrappers would lend him but i imagine he would really like the space equivalent of sherlock holmes after someone let him borrow their copy, so his taste is eclectic and varied with a dash of sad cool adult man crime solver. this does not mean he acquired those skills

darth maul: 4/10. reads poetry and classics like moby dick or crime and punishment with his spider legs folded in like a robot in the corner of his emo-postered room. what is he even doing

mara jade: 2/10. therapists everywhere are shocked at how many 600-page books from the same angsty found family fantasy series are tossed up on her shelf <3

Filoni probably won't but...

If Filoni is retelling Heir to the Empire with Mandoverse characters (Din as Han, Bo-Katan as Leia, Ahsoka as Luke), what if Shin Hati is Mara Jade? And if she's the Mara Jade, what if she and Ahoska develop feelings for each other?

I mean, yeah, it probably won't happen since Filoni prefers to keep Ahsoka a sexless maiden, not even representing her as ace (because that would be recognizing her as character that has considered her own sexual identity and feelings).

But, hey, maybe Filoni will surprise us.

Anyways, Shin Hati would be a way to have the Mara Jade role be filled in the Mandoverse. Though if Ahsoka and Shin became a thing, I suspect we'd see a ton of age gap discourse on here.

Honestly, my best hope for having any new character fulfill the Mara Jade role, is to be better written than Mara Jade actually was. Personally, I never cared for the character--she was very much a "woman-written-by-a-man". The idea of her wasn't bad, just needed to be less male-gaze.

I have seen some on here consider Shin and Sabine--maybe if Sabine actually is Force sensitive, that aspect of Legends Luke story line will be transferred to Sabine--as a FS person in love with another FS in the post ROTJ timeline. In fact, that's my big question for SW Ahsoka and the "retelling the Heir to the Empire" thing.

We do see certain characters falling into HtoE roles. Boba Fett is closer to Talon Karrde. But currently there are more possible force sensitives in this timeline than was in HtoE. Ahsoka seems the obvious Luke, and I think she will largely be that, but it's interesting to wonder how Ezra and possibly Sabine will fit into this as Force sensitives.

If you are a Sabezra shipper who isn’t familiar with the Star Wars Legends novels, there’s a ship you should learn more about: Luke/Mara.

Think about these parallels:

Luke Skywalker gave Mara Jade his blue lightsaber because he had built himself a new green one.

Mara loved teasing Luke, using banter to hide her true feelings for him.

Luke was adorably awkward, sweet, and encouraging to her all the time.

Mara’s Force powers increased dramatically after teaming up with Luke.

They were one of the most epic battle couples in the Legends universe.

Ezra gave Sabine his green lightsaber and built himself a new blue one.

Sabine loves teasing Ezra, using banter to hide her true feelings from him.

Ezra has an adorably awkward crush on Sabine and he is always incredibly sweet and encouraging to her.

Sabine’s Force powers dramatically increased after teaming up with Ezra in Ahsoka episode 8.

Sabezra is definitely one of the most epic battle couples in the Disney SW universe.

Disney keeps copying the Star Wars EU and changing it a little thinking that we won’t notice that they cheated. 😏

In Timothy Zahn’s novel, Vision of the Future, Luke and Mara, who have been mutually pining idiots for years, join minds through the Force to fight as one in order to survive a battle against overwhelming odds. That’s when they both realize that they have been hiding their true feelings for each other for all those years. They are in love and can no longer deny it.
