Colonel Kittinger reported:
At approximately 18 miles the system broke lock but it was quickly reacquired. A slow left turn ensued to keep the dot centered. Altitudes were slowly increased from 8,200 feet to 11,500 feet. The Vc on the scope was extremely difficult to interpret; however, it appeared that we were not really overtaking the target, so the outboard tanks were dropped. Heading of the aircraft changed to approximately 360° at time of firing. At approximately 6 miles the “in-range” light illuminated, followed by an increase in the ASE circle. Trigger was squeezed and crew felt a thump as the missile was ejected; however, missile motor did not ignite. The trigger was squeezed again and held for approximately 3 seconds; however missile did not fire. Trigger was squeezed again and missile #3 fired. The missile made a small correction to the left then back to the right and guided straight away. Pilot maintained the dot centered.
McDonnell F-4D-29-MC Phantom II 66-7463, flown by Captains Richie and DeBellevue, 28 August 1972. (U.S. Air Force)
Approximately 5 to 6 seconds after launch, detonation was observed. Almost simultaneously, two enemy missiles were observed coming from the vicinity of the detonation. Evasive action prevented more thorough observations of detonation. The flight turned to a heading of 210°, maintained 9,000 feet, airspeed 500 knots, and egressed the area.
— Aces and Aerial Victories: The United States Air Force in Southeast Asia 1965–1973, by R. Frank Futrell, William H. Greenhalgh, Carl Grubb, Gerard E. Hasselwander, Robert F. Jakob and Charles A. Ravenstein, Office of Air Force History, Headquarters USAF, 1976, Chapter III at Page 87.
Joe Kittinger is officially credited with the destruction of the MiG 21.
This McDonnell F-4D-29-MC Phantom II, 66-7463, was flown by LCOL Joe Kittinger and 1LT Hodgdon when they shot down a MiG-21, 1 March 1972. Flown by several different crews, this airplane is officially credited with shooting down 6 enemy fighters. It is on display at the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado. It’s Throwback Thursday! 100 years ago, in November 1920, members of the Spencer Shop Fire Company posed with their equipment.
At the time, Spencer, North Carolina—located halfway between Atlanta, Georgia, and Washington, D.C.—was home to Southern Railway’s largest steam locomotive repair facility.
Known for its efficiency and skill, the shop’s volunteer fire company had members on duty 24 hours a day “affording the shops continuous protection.” The company also had a mutual agreement with the municipal fire companies of Spencer and East Spencer.
Top row, left to right: Maurice D. Stewart, shop superintendent; Bryant McBride, master mechanic; Willis P. Neister, machinist and chief; William D. Morgan, machinist and assistant chief; and Stanford B. Morgan, boilermaker.
Second row: Russell H. Bingham, machinist; William T. Porter, machinist; James R. Bickett, machinist; Isaac W. Lomax, car repairer; Samuel T. Trexler, machinist; James F. Tippet, mechanic; Gilmer L. Miller, machinist; James R. Kluttz, machinist; and Marvin Rone, boilermaker.
Third row: William A. Boone, air brake repairer; Thomas C. Neil, machinist; Frederick C. Hickman, pipefitter; Ernest L. Kluttz, carpenter—the brother of James in the second row; Walter Wyatt; Edwin C. Thomas, carpenter; Thomas H. Grubb; Russell D. Johnson, machinist; W. F. Thompson; James A. Summers, mechanic; and Earl Swicegood, electrician.
Front row: Richard Mack Morgan, electrician; Smithdeal Miller—Morgan’s brother-in-law—machinist; W. C. Norris; Vonnie E. Brown, carpenter; Floyd M. Barber, carman; and Lee C. Lentz, machinist. Eight-year-old Virginia Neister, the sponsor of the fire company, was the daughter of chief Willis Neister and his wife Estelle. Milton C. Whitman, carpenter, and Henry C. Caddell, millwright, stood by the hose reel.
Then and now, railroaders work together to renew the rails, deliver the goods, and keep the steel wheels rolling. #spencershops #safety #tbt

Azteca and Khrysalis!

YALL I reblog these but I never get any h o l y f r i ck
Azteca - Oh man lmao this has happened more than once. Not necessarily dungeons, but there were at least two times I can remember when I had just enough health to last one more round, and an attack spell in my deck that would finish things, but my wifi lagged so much that I missed the entire turn and died :))))))
I believe one of these was the Grubb dungeon, and to me,,, a solo life wizard,,,,,, it was really hard so I had to keep starting over. I finally made it to the final battle and boom :)) lag :))) back to square 1 :)))))))
Khrysalis - okay this is probs a basic answer but Malistaire is my favorite boss yet for three main reasons: 1. I haven't actually made it very far past drangonspyre yet lol so he's the biggest boss I've faced so far, 2. neither he :) nor :) his :) henchmen :) cheat :) and 3. GOSH the malistaire/sylvia story will ALWAYS demolish my heartstrings like man if he doesn't rip up and hide his entire school, send undead monsters into his former employer's territory where lots of literal children live, and attempt to summon an all powerful dragon god after you die does he really 💅 love 😍 you☕? And a bunch of other things get me like the opposites attract trope and the fact that the death :) professor's :) wife :) d i e d :)
Thanks for the ask lol whoever you are you're my hero

A U.S. Air Force ordnance technician prepares to load four AIM-9 Sidewinder infrared-homing air-to-air missiles (top row) and four AIM-7 Sparrow radar-guided air-to-air missiles (bottom row) aboard an F-4C. This aircraft, F-4C-23-MC Phantom II 64-0793, is from the same production block as the fighter flown by Major Gilmore and Lieutenant Smith, 26 April 1966. (U.S. Air Force)
“After his maneuver to gain separation, Gilmore pulled up behind the pilotless MiG-21 again and fired another Sidewinder without effect. He again rolled left, pulled up, and fired his third Sidewinder at a range of 3,000 feet. ‘After missing [he thought] twice, Gilmore later told a newsman, ‘I was quite disgusted. I started talking to myself. Then I got my gunsights on him and fired a third time. I observed the missile go directly in his tailpipe and explode his tail.’
“The two F-4 aircrews then descended to watch the debris impact. As Gilmore commenced his pull-up he spotted another MiG-21 tracking his wingman and called for a defensive split. He broke to the left and down while his wingman broke to the right and up.
“When Gilmore emerged from the roll, he sighted the MiG ahead, in afterburner and climbing away. He rolled in behind this aircraft and climbed in afterburner until he was directly behind. He fired his fourth Sidewinder, but the range was too short and the missile passed over the MiG’s left wing. Because of low fuel reserves, both F-4s then left the battle area. The 6-minute aerial battle was Gilmore’s first encounter with an enemy plane ‘after twelve years in the tactical fighter business.’ “
—Aces and Aerial Victories: The United States Air Force in Southeast Asia 1965–1973, by R. Frank Futrell, William H. Greenhalgh, Carl Grubb, Gerard E. Hasselwander, Robert F. Jakob and Charles A. Ravenstein, Office of Air Force History, Headquarters USAF, 1976, Chapter II at Pages 27–29.
According to Vietnam Peoples’ Air Force records, a fighter was lost 26 April 1966, though it is described as a MiG-17. The pilot, First Lieutenant Tràn Vặn Triém, ejected after being hit by friendly fire.
The Phantom II flown by Gilmore and Smith on that date was written off 6 August 1967

User Review
Author:
Rating: 6/10 Few things are as comfortable as a Rob Reiner film. The director who is still commonly referred to lovingly as Meathead by fans of the iconic All in the Family television series has been directing films since the early 80's and his films are consistently entertaining inoffensive fair marketed to mass audiences. The Princess Bride, A Few Good Men, The American President and The Bucket List are just a sampling of the director's filmography that audiences will be familiar.
Those that watch Rob Reiner on the talk show circuit would know that the outside of being an actor and director, he is very political activist who uses his celebrity status to bring attention to equal rights and to social issues such as violence and tobacco use.
So it is a bit of surprise that Rob Reiner has never made a film that might leverage his strong activist lifestyle. Until now, that is.
LBJ is Rob Reiner's film about the 36th President of the United States, Lyndon B. Johnson, who was thrust from the Vice-President's chair to the Oval Office desk after the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy on that fateful November day in 1963.
Woody Harrelson plays LBJ and the film takes us backwards and forwards in time from LBJ's unsuccessful run for the Democratic Party nomination through JFK's assassination and ultimately through the President's fight for an Equal Rights Bill.
The heart of the film comes from LBJ's battle within his own party. Robert Kennedy (Michael Stahl-David) is hardly a fan of the foul-mouthed Texan who was hand-picked by brother John for the Vice-President position. The two will battle wills and disagree on almost all political talking points throughout their tenures. Also providing resistance to LBJ's forward thinking is Senator Richard Russell (Richard Jenkins) from the state of Georgia. Russell is portrayed as a racist that does not believe that individuals of color deserve the same rights and freedoms as all other Americans. LBJ does his best to try and win the trust of Russell and LBJ walks the thin line of keeping Russell in the fold before he abandons his friendship with the Senator in his attempt to fulfill the inroads JFK had made in his equal rights efforts prior to his assassination.
Harrelson is barely recognizable as the title character. The make-up is thick to ensure he resembles the former President. At times, the make-up is brilliant. The big ears and receding hairline of LBJ is captured expertly. But at other times – particularly in close-ups – the make-up looks like Harrelson was an extra in Warren Beatty's Dick Tracy film.
LBJ is obviously the focus, but there is ample time given to JFK. And the assassination in Texas is captured with valuable attention to detail. The assassination is a key point in the life of LBJ and Rob Reiner takes the time to film it correctly (it was filmed in Texas exactly where the shooting took place). Jeffrey Donovan (televisions Burn Notice) plays Kennedy and brings subtle touch to the role not attempting to overdo the Boston drawl.
As with all other Reiner films, LBJ plays it safe. Audiences may learn a few things about the complicated man along the way. His foul mouth, how he would have meetings while sitting on the toilet, and his insecurity always believing that he was not loved by either his inner circle or his country (he did win re-election by the widest margin in American history). To my embarrassment, I didn't know that LBJ was in a procession car with JFK the day he was killed. But LBJ is no Lincoln. Where the Spielberg film was brilliantly written and a character study of both a political family and the process to which they battled, LBJ skims the surface like a rock skipping along calmer waters. Gritty, LBJ is not.
But safe entertainment can still be good entertainment and Reiner is surely a master at that craft. There is plenty of humor in the film to keep the characters interesting and keeping the story non-linear works to valued effect. LBJ will not be considered Rob Reiner's best work, but it is exactly what you can come to expect from the director. And slipping into a comfortable shoe can be so so comfortable.
