Isn't it crazy that the release of the Boughs of Holly sweater was almost one year ago?! #boughsOfHollySweater Somehow time went by so fast. It’s been almost two years since I did any knitting so it took my a few days to get back up to speed. Knitted this swatch to practice stranded color work again. The ribbing confused me the most, took me the longest to figure out how to keep all the strands on the backside. And I really kick myself not writing down the method of knitting my doll sweaters. Spent a lot of time messing with gauges. Felt like reinventing the wheel all over again. Nautical Yarn, or Support Your Local Yarn Shop

I came across this impressively stocked local yarn store in Ludington during my travels in northern Michigan. Nautical Yarn is a flagship store for Rowan, and carries many other fine lines of yarn as well. Having recently splurged on alpaca yarn at Cotton Creek Farm, I loaded up on some necessities including faux fur pompoms, and stitch markers. 

The shop has sample knit garments and wraps showing what you can do with the yarn on offer, all around the store, including this lovely version of Ranunculus, designed by Midori Hirose, done up in hand-dyed Madelintosh sock yarn and a mohair yarn held together. Notice the addition of novelty cuffs. 

Besides so many yarns and notions, Nautical Yarn offers a variety of classes, some in person, some hybrid, and a knitting weekend in November to learn how to make and steek Fair Isle knitting which is offered in conjunction with local bed and breakfast inns.

#fiberuarychallenge day 7 ‘Colourful’. I’ve chosen to show the hat I made for Miss P for todays post. This was made entirely from wool in my stash and was almost a no waste knit as I knitted with each colour as close as I could to the end. The knitting pattern is a free Drops Design pattern I found online called Autumn Acorn, but the colour pattern is something I made up, as you might be able to tell! I think the shape is a bit strange, but I’m hoping once it’s blocked out it will look better! I plan to add a small, pink pompom once I’ve blocked it out.
