THANK U FOR TAGGING ME @hibernationsuit <3

SONGSSSSS
Wild by Poe
I go wild 'Cause your promises are broken Wild Don't you get it dear
You're not the only one who lives on instincts No I've got instincts of my own
You've got a lot of nerve to come back Plan your attack yeah I am still waiting You wrote the rules to try and contain me You broke 'em Now you have untamed me
THEEEE SOREN SONG, when he goes insane after being trapped under graham's thumb in their toxic Thing for ages (which culminates in the uhh Betrayal happening). it is so very very soren.
2. Infra-red by Placebo
I'm coming up on infra-red There is no running that can hide you 'Cause I can see in the dark I'm coming up on infra-red Forget your running, I will find you
[Verse 2] One more thing before we start the final face off I will be the one to watch you fall
Another tasty song about Soren's Rage.
3. Pale by The Birthday Massacre
I'm looking at a face, a pointed chin Towards the sky, an arrogance It easily betrays the closest friend No moment lost, no consequence
[Pre-Chorus] The circle starts again (away from you) Deception pulls us in (away from you) Away from you, away from you
[Chorus] An imitation, a fabrication A pretty fake, a counterfeit An empty carcass behind the artist Is there a trace of innocence?
Soren has been bubbling with bitterness for a while even before the betrayal. When he finally snaps, he loses himself entirely, because what did he have outside of Jessica? Just a toxic inappropriate boss-employee relationship and absolutely nothing else. He becomes a fabrication of his own self, completely empty and entirely hollow, when he was once so innocent.
4. Alone by Heart
Till now I always got by on my own
I never really cared until I met you
And now it chills me to the bone
How do I get you alone
A pre-canon song about Soren falling for Jessica in college. He had been alone his entire life---she was the first person to truly make him Feel, and Feel Hopeful.
5. Halo by Depeche Mode
You wear guilt Like shackles on your feet Like a halo in reverse
I can feel The discomfort in your seat And in your head it's worse
There's a pain A famine in your heart An aching to be free
Though Soren was innocent before the betrayal, and rather sweet, he also... had some serious Issues. He was always a bit sideways, always slightly leaning into immorality and/or apathy, but not enough for Jessica or Graham to be too bothered by.
Can't you see All love's luxuries Are here for you and me
And when our worlds, they fall apart When the walls come tumbling in Though we may deserve it It will be worth it
I kinda see this part as being from Graham's POV though, trying to convince Soren to free them all.... and then [SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING] LOL but anyway

Kerrang! - 04 December 2004
In the 80s, there was a thing called showmanship. If you were going to get up onstage and charge people to watch you run through your hits, you were expected to dress up, to put on a show, to do something. Then grunge happened, punk and garage-rock regained their currency, and flamboyance came to be equated with phoniness. Bands assumed that standing stock still and saying nothing was a mark of ‘authenticity’. And, with a few honorable exceptions (The Darkness, Green Day), that dubious legacy has endured to this day.
Thank fuck for Rammstein then. Those who witnessed their last UK tour in 2002 might have assumed that the riotous collision of fire, dildos and fake spunk on display could never be topped. But, amazingly, their new show is even better. More ambitious, more theatrical — and crucially, funnier — than anything they’ve attempted in the past, it’s the perfect foil to the sprawling, panoramic genius of ‘Reise, Reise’.
Ranged before a vast steel door backdrop at one end of Barcelona’s Palau Olimpico (a cavernous sports hall, roughly the size of Wembley Arena), the band kick off with that album’s title-track, before launching into ‘Links 2 3 4’. But it’s not until ‘Feuer Frei’ that the chaos really begins, with guitarists Richard and Paul (who spend the whole night on their own elevating platforms) donning protective headgear and spitting flames from their guitars in perfect synchronicity. It’s only the seventh date of the tour, but clearly this is already a finely honed production.
‘Mein Teil’ sees front man Till emerge looking like the Swedish chef from ‘The Muppets’, wheeling a huge cooking pot to the front of the stage. Inside is keyboardist Flake, who manages to escape — only to be chased by Till, who is now brandishing a huge butcher’s knife (which, handily, also doubles as a microphone). Eventually he collars Flake and stuffs him back into the cauldron, before roasting him alive with an enormous flamethrower as the opening bars of ‘Mein Teil’ blast from the speakers. The crowd practically self-combust with excitement.
Then it gets even better. ‘Amerika’ features Flake (now miraculously recovered) racing enthusiastically round the stage on a modified scooter with an attached keyboard. The song climaxes with confetti being cannon-blasted over the audience — an acth that, for most bands, would mark the end of the gig. With Rammstein, though, it signals that they’re just getting started. From here on it’s a breathtaking rush of audio-visual stimuli, encompassing exploding drumsticks, Till’s bizarre firework archery act, and a blistering encore of ‘Rammstein’, ‘Ich Will’, ‘Sonne’ and ‘Ohne Dich’.
There’s one weak moment. Their cover of Depeche Mode’s ‘Stripped’ is ill-conceived and simply baffles much of the audience. But it hardly matters when it’s book-ended by a clutch if surprise numbers including ‘Rein Raus’ and ‘Stein um Stein’. And, as bassist Ollie crowd-surf in a rubber dinghy to the sound of deafening climactic applause, you’re left with one over-riding thought: next year’s UK gigs are going to be fucking incredible.
The greatest show on earth? No question.

@normaltothemax: ♬♬ — SONGS I LOVE
a pain that i'm used to - depeche mode! i am a HUGE depeche mode fan, they're one of my top ten bands, and this one is so much fun to sing! the dynamic shifts between the sirens and the verses + the low steady vocals both give off a very ominous, hypnotic vibe that i think fits constantine's aura of both overwhelming danger and magnetism. the lyrics also sit in a very late-hellblazer place for me, when he's exhausted and angry and just drifting aimlessly on the synchronicity highway from one catastrophe to the next without being able to really feel anything other than apathy towards the fact that he's going to have to solve somebody else's problem. he very much loses himself after his sister dies; he finds a pain that he's used to in direct, seething hate with his name stamped on the label, not oblique calls to destiny that may or may not end in tears, and late hellblazer has him almost craving someone to despise him, just so he knows where he stands.
i'm not sure what i'm looking for anymore / i just know that I'm harder to console / i don't see who i'm trying to be instead of me / but the key is a question of control
also, the song speaks to the fact that a lot of the shit he pulls and the emotions he shows are truly who he is, not always just a con; he wears masks on masks, but there's a lot fewer there than people think. at his core, constantine is driven by deep compassion and burning empathy, he just has to conceal it a lot in order to protect the people he cares about:
i can't conceal what i feel, what i know is real / no mistaking the faking, i care
welcome to the family - avenged sevenfold! this song has been my baby since i wrote gabriel in the supernatural fandom back in middle school lmao, it's my personal patron saint of lost souls and rebellious sons. unlike with gabriel, though, i like to think of this song as the wall that constantine is always shoving against, the manifestation of his opposition: "it seems there's no one to call," "you can't win this fight," these are the fleeting moments of despair before he buckles down, battens down all the vulnerable places, hammers back the doubts, and gets to fucking work. this song is his subconscious wailing at him while he steadfastly ignores it and pushes through, never mind the burnout that will be waiting for him on the other side, never mind how much it costs him. this is what's left of his dad whispering in his ear, his inner monologue, the person he's afraid he'll one day become, and it's an unavoidable part of his subconscious that he has to drag himself past every day of his life.
i see you're a king who's been dethroned / cast out in a world you've never know / stand down, place your weapon by your side / it's our war in the end, we'll surely lose but that's alright / so have you figured it out now, so have you figured it out?
+ 2 songs: for lucy, werewolf heart - dead man's bones has such a kid antichrist vibe to me, and even the title alone makes me think of how his powers manifest at night and kind of lock him away, like a miniature werewolf transformation, and how arthur and john are scrambling to find solutions for him so he doesn't have to become something he doesn't want to be.
'cause if the full moon comes, our love is done / so forever, towards dawn, we run
and for jake, fight - the dirty youth feels like the cage match energy constantine would bet money on. it has the vibe of someone who's kind of bound up in fate to be a brawler, to take the hits that other people won't, until the closest thing you know to a release is that angry energy, which feels very jake to me.
don't wanna go there, i've had a late night / i'm feeling nauseous, chemicals enter my brain / i'm a control freak, an internet geek / i get these cravings, to get out and escape you know that it's fate, and now you can't see / you lose your conscience, and break the silence / the script is written, it's complicated / oh, something's about to erupt

Tag game! @itiswritteninthestarsabove tagged me to post 5 songs I'm listening to nowadays. Since I've basically only listened to Depeche Mode (and Dave Gahan) in the past few months, it would be really monotonic, so let me change it up a bit.
5 songs from Depeche/Dave I'm really into atm (and it was a hard pick because it's hard to choose from a 40year+ discography):
Stories of Old - Depeche Mode
A Little Lie - Dave Gahan
Black Celebration - Depeche Mode
Nothing - Depeche Mode
Welcome to My World - Depeche Mode
and the 2 other songs that were catchy enough to drag me away from this band for a little while:
Fake as Hell - All Time Low
Because The Night - Patti Smith
Tagging: @buttonalltheway @callumsmitchells @tonyspegasus @raelee514 @theseedsofviolatorlove @girlbossblackbeard and literally anyone who wants to do it.

well SOMEBODY sent me Yugi for that character ask meme I PROMISE. SO
favorite thing about them: I love Yugi so much its hard to pick just one thing but ahhhhh man. either his dedication to his friends and to following his own sense of right and wrong and the journey of him figuring out that sense of morality from s0 onwards. or his character design, this scrawny little nerd who's also so strong and brave despite his size, who dresses in spikes and chains and black leather and also loves toys and games and fun and doesn't hesitate to smile and laugh and be silly. he's just chwhdj so good
least favorite thing about them: how much he and his character development takes a backseat narratively to Atem after s0
favorite line: I'm at work so I can't look up exactly what he says, but when Kokurano is doing his whole fake psychic schtick and Yugi goes "um. no offense, but I think you're full of it" always makes me laugh. I love when Yugi's sassy
brOTP: wishshipping!! I think Yugi and Joey are cute romantically too, but I like them as super close best friends forever more
OTP: puzzleshipping. obviouslyyytt they are !!! soulmates !!!!!!!
nOTP: Yugi/Rebecca not like ive ever actually seen someone ship it but the abime sure did try to push it as a plausible thing in waking dragons and bro that's a child
random headcanon: Yugi is trans. I cannot read him any other way and the lack of trans Yugi fanfics are so disappointing
unpopular opinion: I don't think it's that unpopular anymore but the idea that Yugi's this perfect uwu baby who would never hurt a fly and always does the right thing. he has so much repressed anger and hurt, and even though he was concerned about the blackouts, he never seemed concerned with the bullies around him ending up hurt, traumatized, or dead UNTIL one of them came back and said "you hurt me and now I'm going to hurt you back." even AFTER that he still made the choice to give control to Yami to fight Nagumo. he has to learn right from wrong and how to be strong and kind and forgive people and grow too
song i associate with them: People are People by Depeche Mode was the first one that came to mind just now so
favorite picture of them: I can't look for it bc im at work but that one panel where Honda picks him up by his wrist and hands him off to Joey like he weighs absolutely nothing

What are some albums that you would consider no skips albums?
Wow this is the best question that I could have been asked. Music is my #1 interest so allow me to geek out about certifiable no skip records (in my opinion)
Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge by My Chemical Romance. This album has it all, a great story, action, guitar solos that will have you think Brian May is recording something for Iron Maiden, perfect drums, and rage that’s been calmed a tad since their first record. I know Danger Days is a “comic book” record but I think that this one is the same vibe just darker themed. Its like listening to a movie really. I can never get enough of this album and even almost two decades later I find new stuff out of the mix.
Third Eye Blind- Third Eye Blind. Once you look past the hits like semi-charmed kind of life & jumper this album is actually really kind of dark. At least thats the way I take it. I mean obviously those hits are dark themed but- this album is like a transition-in-your-life record. It was the theme to my summer of 2021. Every single song is built up, has relatable lyrics, and just hits everybody different. Every song is undeniably catchy and I think everybody needs to listen to it.
(What’s the Story?) Morning Glory- Oasis. This album has been constantly spinning for me this year. I can. Not. Get. Enough. I think every Oasis record is great but this one has zero skippability. Every other record of their’s has at least one song where I’m like “yeah this blows/is silly”. From front to back this record oozes self confidence (perfect for my ‘fake-it-til-you-make-it’ god complex) & it is so catchy/vague that anyone can find meaning in any and all of the songs. Its has highs, it has lows, the sound/mix is a little dense so I usually listen to a remastered version- but regardless the songs are meant to be ear-worms and they are. Whether you’re on the metro, on the bus, walking through a park or a city- this record is perfect to walk to and jam out to.
Honourable mentions: The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails, Violator by Depeche Mode, any record by Brand New, Take This To Your Grave & From Under The Cork Tree by Fall Out Boy, The Used’s self titled, and probly a few more that i’m missing/can’t remember right now.

7. If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most?
It's looking very eclectic rn, Rooster. Idk if there is a most pulled from artist, but I use lyrics for every single chapter title and most fic titles because I simply cannot name things. It's an impossible task for me and I hate it.
Ok actually I went through all my titles and chapter titles and this is what I've got so far, so Fiona wins:
Elliott Smith (x2), Tommy Genesis, Bauhaus, Fiona Apple (x4), Neutral Milk Hotel, Jclef, Depeche Mode, Portishead (x2), Ministry, SZA, Melanie Martinez don’t judge me leave me alone, Bettye Crutcher, Carly Rae Jepsen, Dinosaur Jr., My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Allie X (x2), SOPHIE, Cibo Matto, 10cc
me af at all times
19. What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?
Oh, honestly, like every pairing. Twenny is my second fave after Creek rn so for sure some Twenny and I have two Creekenny fics in the works I'm excited about. But I want to write every ship I have any thoughts on whatsoever. It takes time because I spend a while thinking about new characters/dynamics before writing them.
Probably overly self-conscious/who cares, but I never want people to think the way I write a ship at a given time is how I see them in any fixed capacity. It's just what I'm interested in exploring at that moment with two fake guys. Fanfic is fun because you can explore so many different things with your fiction dolls
