SEGA President is considering remakes of older Sonic titles in new Famitsu interview
Tumblr media
In a new interview for Japanese Gaming Magazine Famitsu, Sega President and Chief Operations Officer Yukio Sugino adressed the strenght of the Sonic brand, and an interest in expanding it further with "reboots and remakes".
When questioned about the trend of making reboots and remakes of beloved titles, Sugino expressed interest in pursuing this path for some SEGA titles, specially its' mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog. He expressed that while making new titles and adventures for the franchise will keep being pursued, the idea of remaking previous titles could help to expand the brand.
"Of course, we have to do new things, but as with all IPs, we can have new works or reboots", explained Sugino. "Sonic' is also SEGA's signature IP, and in parallel with new games [for the series], we are considering reboots and remakes."
Sugino also expressed to be extremely satisfied with how the Sonic brand perfomed in the year of 2022, and hopes to keep the momentum going. The 2022 live-action movie was mentioned, and he also commented that Sonic Frontiers sold above expectations for the title, and that a lot of North American fans have shared messages about their approval of the newest main game.
