Requested Pouches, part two. I have never shown these two, since they were promised before they were done. The first one was the prototype of a design that features heavily in the next batch, its inspired by art nouveau interpreations of grasses. I never got to post this exact photo, but it's one of my favorites of us ever! It is from the naming ceremony of our little boy. The picture was taken by my brother @mrleafbeard while we were all surroundered by our nearest family in our garden. So special to have all our dear ones gathered together in this manner, it was the first time parts of our families got to meet each other. If you are curious, I wrote all about the naming ceremony on my blog (link in my profile), but you might have to scroll a bit to find it 😉 Or use the "search' function 👍 I even wrote a bit about how our ancestors the vikings used to do it 😅 Did you know that literally any culture all over the world, in all times, have had some kind of ceremony or ritual to welcome their young ones into the community? With great variations of what is done of course, but then again, many things are quite alike! Infant baptism is actually never mentioned in the Bible, but has been common in various ancient cultures, as a form of cleansing ritual. According to Old Norse tradition, a newborn was fully viable and no longer abandonable after nine nights of life. On the tenth day, the child was given a name at a ceremony where he or she became a legal member of the family and eligible to inherit (acknowledged by the father). The Old Norse term for the naming ceremony (nafnfest) is apparantly“vatni ausa”, “to sprinkle with water.” As you might expect, I’m no fan of doing things in a conventional way, so we decided to make our own kind of ceremony, something which would feel right for us. I wish more people did more conscious decisions and did things more wholeheartedly, I think everything we do should feel meaningful and authentic. It doesn’t have to be spectacular or extraordinary, but you should feel it in your hearts, the inherent rightness in what you do. How did you present your child to the world? I noticed something in 2020 - that I have hardly any fantasy gowns available!  Mostly because the few I've made over the years sold incredibly quickly, and I never got around to making more.  This year, I hope to fix that!

The cursed face. Thanoreth's helmet-like mask is made from Thibra, aluminium foil and scraps of Worbla. The teeth are long mother-of-pearl beads that I thrifted years ago. I made the costume when I had to commute to work by train for two hours daily. All the beads and silk cords were hand-sewn to the costume during those train rides. For this shoot, I did a little VFX Makeup experiment, which you barely see beneath the mask, but it makes the bits of the face that stick out less human.
