Deputy Austin Randal 💙

So many thanks to @redreart for this incredible icon of my newest Far Cry 5 OC, Austin Randal! You nailed him perfectly, my friend! If you're considering getting work done by her, I highly recommend it! Austin shows up mainly in my Untitled Johnny WIP, although since the three fics will have crossovers (and he's my Dep), he'll be around. As I don't like to reveal stuff until I post the chapters, not *too* much to share here, but I'd say there are some details to be noticed in this.😏

it took a week in the bunker.

its not like isaac had thought to replace the batteries in his hearing aids the prior few days. its not like he knew the world was going to actually end soon.

one week is all it took for the ones he had to die, left constantly on and in - finding his only comfort in the fact he could hear joseph moving about in the bunker at all times.

and of course dutch didnt have those sort of batteries in his bunker. only in josephs manic states of religious ecstasy and despair could isaac hear the words he said. any other time joseph spoke so softly like disturbing the buzzing sound isaac cant differentiate between the bunker lights and his own tinnitus would be sacrilege.

years of reading joseph's lips, the droning murmur of his soft timbre. they'd sit chest to back, joseph's arms stretched out before them to satisfy his need for gesture, and to sign the few words he knew himself, as if isaac would understand them.

isaac could feel the rumbling vibrations of joseph's word pressed to his spine, against his throat and the edge of his jaw. he feels like a child again, in bed listening to the static of his parent's talking through the wall.

his chest stings, wet and tacky beneath the bandage from the stolen knife he tried to take to his sin - atonement, just like john wanted. it's all he has left to prove himself. the bunker is cold, and they're dressed in bed beneath thick comforters. he tucks his face where joseph's neck meets shoulder, and remembers a poem he read once:

god left us long ago. but if you're quiet, if you press your ear up against the walls, you can still hear him humming.
