Farewell, Beloved Falco - Fan Remaster

Hey, everyone! I wanted to share a side project of mine that I’ve been chipping away at over the last two or so years. The FBF manga is one of my favorite pieces of Star Fox media and I initially wanted to show it some love with updated, more professional, English lettering that also preserved the hand-written elements—which spiraled into me upscaling the pages and then hand-painting the inevitable instances of AI mangling from the upscaling process.

I’m not generally a fan of the wobbly, waxy look AI upscaling provides but I thought it at least was nice to have an alternative to the 536x763px scans we currently have access to. That said, if I somehow missed higher-quality scans I’d love to substitute these pages with them!

I don’t speak a lick of Japanese, so I followed the original fan translation that has been floating around and used on the wiki for the last several years, changing some dialogue for the sake of flow or panel space (and in one instance because the original line made little sense to me, but that may speak more to my reading comprehension than anything else). I could not find the creator of the original translation, but if anyone knows who that might be, please let me know so I can credit them!

There are almost certainly mistakes I missed, and I’ll update the link should I make any changes to the PDF, which is sourced below. I hope you all enjoy!

Last night, I was reading a few posts from some other Tumblr blogs while looking for new Star Fox fan art. It wasn’t until I saw a post from @sweetness-pop, who came up with an idea for new artwork depicting Clawroline from Kirby wearing Katt Monroe’s clothes from the Farewell, Beloved Falco manga. I loved the idea so much, that I went ahead and made it a reality.

I couldn’t draw Katt naked, though. That’s not something I’d do these days.

Just reread Farewell, Beloved Falco, and oh the love/hate relationship I have with this comic.

On one hand I love Captain Shears, who doesn't love Katt, get to see the rest of the hot rodders, got reminded Fox is also a sword guy, at one point he throws a sabre into Andross's eye which, just the fact someone at Nintendo thought that sentence and proposed it and someone else wrote it and drew it down is amazing

On the other hand it's so obvious it was thrown together to try and fill a gap to plaster Dinosaur Planet into the timeline, and it barely even does that cause the one thing it had to establish was why Falco left and he literally just leaves for no reason, and the writing teams obviously weren't communicating cause the end of the comic and opening of the game are different.

And less seriously, but most disappointing to me personally, prior to this comic I don't think we were supposed to think Andross was literally just a giant head? I know he objectively is in 64 but like, he wasn't always? And the rules of the cloning don't make sense cause he has his memories too so he's being recreated like, exactly as he was when he died, if he altered his DNA somehow I guess it makes sense cloning from a later tissue sample would have the giant head mutation in it but? Why even cloning in the first place, him showing up in the comic at all is just there to open people up to him coming back so it doesn't feel as out of nowhere in Adventures but why not do some hocus pocus about ghosts, since that's what the official explanation for both his later appearances are.

It's badly paced, the story barely makes sense, I'd want more lore and better characterization, and I just can NOT take Giant Disembodied Monkey sliding around on his beard leaving a slime trail seriously, but like, it's official media for a series I love dearly and we get no media for, so I love it. I love it so much.

Imagine seeing an art pic of Clawroline smirking & posing while wearing Katt Monroe's clothes from the Farwell Beloved Falco comic(exclusively in Japan) while the extremely flustered, hot pink feline is just standing in the background, giving a "WTF" look to the circus lethal leopard from behind, & is totally nude while using her tail to block her......um area & crossing her arms to hide her breasts, which happened to end up being very.........voluptuous!

*Clawroline forcibly stripped Katt out of her clothes just to try them on.*

I read the translations for the Star Fox Manga, Farewell Beloved Falco (that was canon before the reboot) and it makes me glad Falco seemed happy that Katt found herself someone else. Like they could've easily made him act jealous or something but he doesn't seem to be. Idk I just appreciate that
