Have you picked up the new #MartinLutherKingJr biography by #JonathanEig? It's 800+ pages of well-researched work. I opted for the #Audiobook version. #KingThelifeofMartinLutherKingJr #BookReview #May2023Books #AudiobookReview #SimonandSchuster
The first major new biography of Martin Luther King Jr in over 40 years, Jonathan Eig’s superb King is based on years of research, hundreds of interviews with those who knew him and many thousands of previously unreleased documents, including a huge cache from the FBI. Eig reveals King’s story to be more compelling and more complex than we knew. For too long, his radical vision for the future…

Emmanuel Carrère won Premio Princesa de Asturias de las Letras this year. I knew about him but never read any of his books before. #Limonov is a well written and well translated biography, but the structure is not something I would expect. I’d rather treat it as a fiction or even essay. The Kingdom will be my next read. Can’t judge for now. #EmmanuelCarrère #FarrarStrausandGiroux https://www.instagram.com/p/CTBjnECBiB6/?utm_medium=tumblr

This book is the second book in the Skybound series.  It is about twins who are separated.  One is sent to the Sky Castle (which controls their city) and the other stays behind.  The one sent to the Sky Castle must use a powerful ghost eagle to win a war.
I liked this book.  At times I thought it was too gruesome, but overall it is fine.  There are lots of twists and cliff-hangers, especially at the end, which I found exciting.  I’m looking forward to when the third book comes out.

Squad is about how three friends fall apart.  Jenna doesn’t know how to cope without Raelynn.  Her whole world is falling apart slowly.  She loses her best friend and her cheerleading career.  Everyone has made up their minds about a certain incident that occurred so Jenna loses everything.  Will she ever get that back?
I thought the book was super good.  I think this because Jenna, the main character, fell and couldn’t get back up.  She had no one on her side.  Then when things started to get better, BAM!, the same thing happened again.  So I like the fact that Jenna kept going.  She kept fighting and she returned to her “normal” life.

Thomas Sullivan lies himself into the Royal Army with George, the street urchin of London, where they meet Fredrick and Charlie and the other clay kickers.  Thomas enlists to find his brother, George for money, Fredrick for glory, and Charlie to escape his father.  All are working on secret mission to break German lines and help Thomas.
Overall, this is an excellent novel.  The plot started slowly and picked up pace in the middle/end.  I am fond of the idea where James’ story is a black page scattered through the book.  The humor between the boys is relatable and funny as well as their characters; these boys have vivid and complex characters.  The ending with George during the climax was somewhat predictable.  My biggest issue with the plots is that nothing is said on how James earned the Victoria Cross and what really happened to him.  (Is this intentional ambiguity?) I would recommend to a friend.

A group of three best friends, Agnes, Moira, and Boone are finishing their sophomore year of high school.  Agnes has progeria, a disease that causes her to age a a faster rate than others.  She only has 100 days left to live.
I thought the book was good because each chapter was from the point of view of one of the friends, so the reader can understand how each character feels.

A freshman girl named Quinn just moved across the country.  Unlike she did in her last town, Quinn hides the fact that she has alopecia underneath a strawberry blonde wig.  Not even her new close friends know.  The only person who knows she is a bald teenager is a boy named Nick who has 2 less legs that she does.  Quinn carefully navigates her new school and new life.
It was different.  I feel like there are so many books about cancer and it was interesting to not only learn about alopecia but what it is to be/know someone that has lost limbs.  I also like that it takes place on the east coast, so it was easy to imagine the scenery.  Overall, great story and one to definitely add to the shelves!

Jack Montgomery is an officer in the Army, and is called to fight in WW II.  While fighting in Italy, his platoon comes under fire.  He bravely attacks the enemy and saves lots of American lives.
I think this book would be a good history book.  I also think this book would be appealing to someone who likes warfare stories.

Ruby is a little girl about the age of eleven; her father dies, and her mother is arrested.  She tries to keep this a secret but then two people come into her life and teach her she doesn’t have to go through these struggles alone.
This book, in my opinion, is a book of inspiration.  It inspired me to be brave in a lonely world.  Jesus always has a plan for me, and all I have to do is wait and hope.

This book is about an 8 year old girl who likes flamingos.
I really liked this book because the author and illustrator put good information and cool word choices that fit the book.  The words were really funny and there was action in the pictures
