Just saw your reply to the Ask about Akk and Ayan from The Eclipse and it was such a good read! (I've only been on Tumblr sporadically these past few weeks because of work, and it pains me I've missed so much good stuff.) 😔

Anyway, this got me thinking about Only Friends. I liked some bits but on the overall it disappointed me. I could ask about any ship in there, but let's focus on one: what do you think about TopMew?

Hello, good sir! I'm always honored when you take the time to reach out. I'll try to be thorough for your sake.

Just like with the last ask, I am putting a disclaimer here for the FB girlies, I am talking about Mew and Top as characters.

I think Top is a poorly-written character because the show never decided what they exactly wanted him to be, and this is best shown when Boeing returns. Boeing wants Mew to team up with him to fuck with Top, but we never get what Boeing wanted and what Top wants between either of them.

The show intentionally keeps Top enigmatic the entire time. We don't know if he's serious about the sleeping thing until the fire scene in the end. We all thought he was getting high at one point. So much of what's wrong with Top is wrapped up in what's going on with what Mew wants, and because Mew is also a difficult character to read we are never certain what the deal is with them.

All we really seem to understand about Mew is that he is a status chaser. His primary reason for being with Top seems to be the prestige that comes with having Top want to be with him, or how Top stepping out on him embarrasses him. In fact, the strongest actions Mew takes in the entire show are about punishing Boston or punishing Top. He can't even fully-commit to that. He gets bored and tired of it it, and then just decides to be with Top.

I just really don't get Mew by the end. What is the source of his beef with Boston? This child was raised by lesbians, so why does he have such hangups around purity? Why does he care so much about his perceived status when we know he wants to get fucked by pretty boys so bad that we end on a tag of him looking at Mix?

A good comparison for my issues with Top and Mew can be found in La Pluie with Saengtai and Phat. We understand the core of Saengtai's issues. He is a selfish reader of romantic fiction and virgin, who's punishing his rain-mate because his parents got a divorce. The fact that we know so little about Phat works in this story because we know what we need: he's a kind man who is doing everything he can to show Saengtai that he is willing to make a relationship work because he thinks Saengtai is worth it.

On the other hand, OF constantly asks us to question the motives of Top, and so by being so nonspecific about Mew and properly interrogating him as a character, we're asked to just make it up. When they go for the most dramatic stuff, such as kicking Boston and fighting in the pool, seducing Drake and his ears and eyebrows to lord over Boston, punching Ray out in a bar to later embarrass Top right before sex, smirking over Boston's issues with Atom, and then finally telling Boston to go fuck himself....What is the core of this? Why is he the leader of this group?

I don't get Mew, honestly. I think he is a wobbly character. Book is very pretty. He plays the virgin well. Force has a great face, and he plays a douche-who-might-not-want-to-be really well. I don't think these guys' characters are written on a solid base and so their characters never landed for me.

So yeah, I really don't like Mew, and I don't think Top feels real enough to have firm feelings about him. I can construct a version of them in my mind as that pair that's always fighting but won't break up. I can imagine that Top was serious about wanting to settle down and seeing real potential in the idea of Mew, but that's just me fanwanking. I don't think the show gave me enough solid emotional beats for me to connect anything real to them.

i had to drop the headcanons that's been eating up my mind bc the other day while i was taking my mock tests, my mind kept drifting off to the couple. lol. so here's a list of headcanons i had as a reader, from all the different bits of the story and the things you told us. hehe. these are mostly 'soft moments' as asked by you in that ask ( i wish i could drop the reference links, but i'm on my phone so it's hard to operate dually. however, i shall say which parts inspired what brainrot : they're from your works )

if she loves her things organized, i can see— during the beginning of their dating life, tae'd come over on a random weekend, only to find a!oc cleaning up, in her most natural state, and the mundane aspect of it would melt him. why? bcos he's the been there, done that sort of person, but not when it comes to these things. the domesticity, i mean. hehe.

also, the fact that she trusted him enough to show that side of her? :') the only reason she wouldn't stress about her look is bc she's adorably engrossed in her work and NEEDS IT DONE AND HE SAW HER IN OTHER STATES TOO 🫠

this one is also from initial years. i think if she were to ever get injured in any way or had a scar—however minor, he'd still spend hours on those spot/s, kissing & hating himself for not being there when it happened. also, i think if she didn't tell him about such a thing/things bc it's not an issue to her, because he had sm going on according to her and didn't wanna pile on— he'd be upset. can see her making jokes about it since it's nothing to her, and him glaring at her with swimming red eyes ( just like the wedding drabble where he threatened her to never leave him ), and making similar threats to his favorite girl ( mid-lovemaking ) ☹️

you often write that before meeting her, tae's biggest flex in bed was composure. so i can literally see him shortcircuting (even during the roughest rounds), hearing her say the most loving things and her unadultered affection. the holds only bared by his urge to take care of her first like you always say.

also, i think when he first introduced her to his world of ruined tango, he was more concerned about her, than a!oc herself. can see him internally worrying, but she is the type to want it harder and more, anyway, to his constant surprise 😂 no, but seriously. suppose it's waxplay, and he knows what he's doing bc he's a pro, but it's still his a!oc 😭 no matter how much lust and control is swarming around them, his need to smear his affection on/inside her is REAL! ever love someone so much that even being balls deep in them isn't enough bc you wanna consume them whole??? and merge with their soul and being??? that's them, and it was novel for him. right?

Social Media Musings

I'm an Elder Millennial. I was already out of high school when social media started becoming A Thing.

I've been on Facebook since '05 when it was just for college students and you had to have a .edu E-mail address to even sign up. In my opinion, it going public and allowing anyone with a pulse to have an account is a blessing and a curse. I stay there, despite it being more and more of a clusterfuck as time goes on (it's practically unusable without the FB Purity extension running), due to the military yeeting me all over the place. I can keep in touch with family and shipmates (the "extended family") more easily and efficiently. I hate that it's now a giant data farm used to shove ads in my face for things that may or may not be legitimate products. I did discover Duke Cannon that way so I can't be entirely upset, I guess.

I been on here since 2012, and it's becoming more of a trainwreck these days, as I'm sure you've noticed. I've not had a terrible time overall, I like the premise of the platform, even if I do not understand a lot of what goes on here content wise (the ever present desire for porn, specifically).

I have a Twitter I barely post on, because I'm boring and never have anything to say. I use this mostly because Kat Timpf is on there and to keep up with what's going on with Effin' Birds. I've never understood the appeal of this platform; it's mostly politics and people being absolutely insane at each other. I don't understand the fuss about it, don't know why everyone's all upset about the changes to it, and I certainly don't understand how anyone can read 500 tweets per day, let a lone 1,000.

I also barely post on my Instagram, which I got at my sister's urging, because once again, I'm fairly boring. Mainly it's used to send funny birb content to Denise and Danelle (cock jokes are a must with rooster content).

My sister also wanted me to get a SnapChat, because she uses that the most to keep in touch with people, and I like it, I just never think to use it. I've found a lot of cool filters to use, one of which is a freedom bird perched on my shoulder.

I've only been on PillowFort for a few weeks and I like it. It reminds me of what the Internet used to be like, before selling ads was The Thing You Do. I've stated before I don't mind paying for a service if I enjoy it or find it useful. I will gladly donate to them regularly to keep them up and running and free of corporate influence. I love the privacy options available, and the transparency of the staff that run it. I don't have an traction there as far as followers go, but it'll happen with time, just as it has with this. I think it'd be easier to find my niche there if I made any sort of art, or was super rabid about a particular fandom, but I'm not, because I've calmed down with age and had it verbally beaten out of me while growing up. Best I can do is .gifs, mostly for my own reactions to stuff.

December 29, 2019: Three years ago today, Corduroy Institute convened to record our last session of the 2010s. We followed the methodology of using a random number generator to give us two discs from our collection that could serve as a guideline for our improvisation. The albums it selected were compilations by The Temptations and Chrome.

Corduroy 58 began a kick and snare pattern from the Arturia Minibrute plus a dose of fuzz bass courtesy of the Deluxe Bass Big Muff Pi on the Bass VI. Our journal notes then indicate that the melodic layer featured a Telecaster sent "through a combo of pedals mediated by [S.A. Morin's] Triparallel Mixer." Visual evidence from from the session indicates that we may have employed the Pigtronix Philosopher King, the Ibanez Tubescreamer, the EHX Superego Plus, the EHX Attack Decay, the Boss FB-2 feedback booster, and the NUX Atlantic reverb/delay. This claim is wholly speculatory as it was deduced from the pedals which are shown to be engaged within our photographic memories.

Julie Rousse Her work is diverse and expressed through several different experimental music projects based on improvisation : live performances, sound installations, electroacoustic compositions, music scores for dance, performance, films, visual artists and photo documentaries.

Passionate phonographer and noise lover, she is always looking for new sonic sources in her worldwide travels, exploring the possibilities of sound capturing in specifically chosen contexts, working with different recording devices. She oscillates between the purity of the recordings and a special attraction for archaic, lo-fi machines. She uses that sonic collection - in an experimental process - as her raw material, an infinite source of rhythms and colors which she shapes with a real time sound treatment software - real time being the essential element of her spontaneous and chaotic approach. She digs in the sound - intruding in the detail - exploring in search of new textures of raw sounds.

In 2015, she was Laureate of the Institut Français programme Hors les Murs, for a3 months stay for a research around the musical culture of the Mapuche people autochtones from the south of Chile.

With Félicie d’Estienne d’Orves, they created the monumental audiovisual installation EXO - Spatio-Temporal Archeology, inviting the audience to turn towards the sky and contemplate while listening to the multiphonics spatialized compositions the Julie created for each objects pointed by Felicie's lasers.

Since 2018 she is living in Marseille. In 2020 she integrates the Collective Les Ateliers Jeanne Barret where she will have her studio as associated artist.

Pierce Warnecke is a multidisciplinary digital artist at the interection of experimental music, digital arts and video art. He has presented his work in the form of performances, concerts and installations at Rewire, Mutek, ZKM, ManiFeste (IRCAM), CTM, Elektra, KW Institut, La Biennale Nemo, Sonic Acts, Martin Gropius Bau, MAC Montreal, Gray Area SF, Scopitone, LEV Festival, SXSW, FILE, etc.

He co-curates emittermicro label and festival with Kris Limbach and Seiji Morimoto in Berlin since 2011, in addition tp co-curating Le Signal Festival in France with Louis Laurain since 2020.

Between 2017 and 2019 he composed several audiovisual works for the Institute for Sound and Music's Hexadome project in Berlin, San Francisco, Montreal and more. Pierce collaborates often and has worked with Frank Bretschneider, Matthew Biederman, Myriam Bleau, Keith Fullerton Whitman, Louis Laurain, Rodolphe Loubatière, Clémént Edouard and more.
