It has been waaaay too long since we went to the beach. It was so calm, and the place was almost completely empty. Except for the thousands of bitty fish in the water and all the pelicans and seagulls feasting. This winter, although not over has been a hard one for me. Having the new puppy has taken away for the time I’ve been able to give myself any self care. The dark bitter cold days seem to lead into even colder nights with below zero temps that you just can’t get out in and be comfortable. I have had very little time to create which feeds my soul. I have felt myself sinking into a dark depression from the the winter, from losses, from the past, just no time and space to feel and heal. Last week I finally said enough and I did something I’ve never done before I made plans to take a little vacation alone. I’ll be the first to admit if I had thought about it too long I probably would have changed my mind. But with my husband on board ya watch the dogs and my dog sitter helping out I just went for it. Today I write this from sunny Florida, I just got in yesterday and once I checked into my hotel it hit me. I was alone, I’d never gone on vacation without my husband and it felt weird and lonely and I started to cry. I called my husband and said , what if I made a mistake? What if I can’t be here alone and relax and enjoy myself, he calmly said as he is the clam to my storm please enjoy yourself, you need this , you deserve this. After we got off the phone I headed down to the beach, after walking on the waters edge for about 5 minutes I felt myself begin to calm and a relaxed piece washed over me. Oh the sound of the ocean waves and the sun and sand.... it was just what I needed. Last night I sat as the sun went down making some art, oh how that felt so good to just lose myself in the moment of creating.
