Open Your Eyes (1997)

In the realm of concept between the war of dreams vs. reality this 1997 Spanish masterclass work Open Your Eyes examines both sides in one mans life. Cesar is your ordinary 20 something year old frat boy type who likes parties, women, and living in the moment. He feels on top of the world and uses those around him to make his crown brighter. Eventually Sofia, portrayed wonderfully by Penelope Cruz, enters his life after she's introduced by Cesar's friend, Pelayo. This comes with some friction, that Sofia is of interest to Pelayo but Cesar shows no hesitation in pursuing the girl as another flavor of the month. Later, Cesar with his current fling, Nuria, get into a car accident which leaves Cesar's face disfigured altering the course of his life and people around him. When Sofia and Pelayo don't see Cesar the same way anymore, it spirals him into a deep depression and that's where Cesar's life and the movie go a different direction. As though the movie may seem complicated, it was made in a way where it's easy enough to follow and understand Cesar through his struggles. The film is also nearly split into 2 different movies entirely while staying equally as exciting. Open Your Eyes has a personal resonation with me or anyone who dreams of something too good to be true only to realize that you will have to wake up at some point and come to terms with reality. The concept isn't super original but the movie does a perfect job of staying with its source material and being gripping throughout as Open Your Eyes is the best foreign movie I have ever seen and places at number 3 on this list of 50.

In the middle of Pedro Almodóvar's Bad Education, two men go into a theater that's holding a film noir festival. When they come out later, one says, "I kept having the feeling those films were about us." Indeed, if Almodóvar's movie is inspired by anything, it's film noir, but filtered through the Technicolor movies made by Alfred Hitchcock in the 1950s. The score by Alberto Iglesias often echoes the melancholy longing of Bernard Herrmann's music for Vertigo (Hitchcock, 1958). The intricate plot for Bad Education begins when a young man (Gael García Bernal) comes to the offices of film director Enrique Goded (Fele Martínez) and identifies himself as Goded's old school friend Ignacio Rodriguez. He doesn't call himself Ignacio anymore, he says. Instead, he goes by his stage name, Ángel Andrade, and he's hoping that Goded will cast him in his next film. Goded is more than surprised to see his old schoolmate -- in fact, he tells his assistant and current lover, Martín (Juan Fernández), Ignacio was his first love -- but he's currently experiencing a creative block and isn't hiring anyone now. So the actor leaves Goded a manuscript of a story he has written. Part of it, he says, is about their school days, and the rest is fiction based on what he thinks might have happened when they grew up. Goded reads the manuscript and is so impressed by the story it tells that he is determined to film it. And so begins an intricate film about memory, imagination, deception, betrayal, obsession, and revenge that centers on a pedophile priest's molestation of his young students. Bad Education was originally given an NC-17 rating by the Motion Picture Association of America for "explicit sexual content," but I suspect it was mostly because the sexual content involves two men. The rating was eventually reduced to R. The performance by García Bernal is spectacular: He manages several identities while retaining the core essential to all of them. Like most Almodóvar films, Bad Education is alive with bright primary colors, but the brightness only serves to heighten the shadows.

Adeta hayatları arasında gözle görülür bir bağlantı bulunmaktadır. Bundan seneler evvel Madrid'te bulunan bir okulun çıkış zamanında tanışmışlardır. İkili arasındaki iletişime mesafe de zaman da ket vuramayacaktır. İlk başlarda anlık bir zevkten ibaret olan bu ilişki zamanla devasa bir aşka evrilir. Otto da, Anna da bir gün sonsuza dek beraber olacakları bir geleceğin yakınlarda olduğunu umur ederler. Yönetmen koltuğunda Julio Medem'i gördüğümüz Los amantes del Círculo Polar filminin başrollerinde ise Fele Martinez ve Najwa Nimri'nin muazzam uyumunu izliyoruz. Henüz 8 yaşında olan küçük Alisa, kulübe içerisinde yaşamını sürdürmektedir. Büyüdüğünde balerin olmayı hedefleyen küçük kız oldukça çekingen biridir. Olağanüstü yeteneklere sahip olan Alisa, dilediği an hava durumunu değiştirebilir. Bunun yanı sıra dilekleri de istediği zaman yerine getirebilmektedir. Aradan 9 sene geçer ve Alisa 17 yaşına gelir. Moskova'ya gider ve orada tanıştığı birine aşık olur Her şey tam da bundan sonra başlar. Yönetmen koltuğunda Anna Melikian'ı görüyoruz. Başrollerde ise Yevgeni Tsyganov, Mariya Shalayeva, Mariya Sokova ve Irina Skrinichenko gibi isimler yer alıyor. Kesinlikle izlenmesi gereken bir film. Yaramaz Çocuk Bubby / Bad Boy Bubby (1993) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYGNdkF2I1Y Bad Boy Bubby eski bir yapım. Bubby adlı bir adam, yaşamının 35 senesini bir bodrumda kilitli şekilde geçirmiştir. Onu bodruma hapseden kişi ise annesidir. Uzun seneler boyunca oradan kurtulamamasının temel sebebi ise annesinin dışardaki havanın zararlı olduğu konusunda oğlu Bubby'yi ikna etmiş olmasıyla ilgili. Fakat seneler sonra babası geri döner ve Bubby gerçek dünyaya geçiş yapar. Filmin yönetmen koltuğunda Rolf de Heer var. Başrollerde ise Nicholas Hope, Claire Benito, Ralph Cotterill, Carmel Johnson ve Syd Brisbane gibi isimler yer alıyor. Film önerileri konulu yazımın son filmine geçelim... Tamamen illegal yapıda olan bir örgütün üyesi olan Maria, faaliyetlerin birçoğunu gizli şekilde yürütmektedir. Genç kadın bir yandan da maddi durumu kötü olan ufak çocuklara ücretsiz şekilde eğitim vermektedir. Fakat Maria'nın yegane hedefi her zaman faşist askeri diktatörlük ile alakalı eylemler yapmak olmuştur, sürekli bununla ilgili planlar yapar.
