My Top Albums and Singles of 2023
2023 was in my opinion, one of the greatest years for Metal and music in general. The innovations in the genre were overflowing this year. All the true quality releases make it one of the most difficult years to rank and categorize the best of the best. I have revised this article and list so many times, I’ve lost count. It seems I am discovering a new band, song, and album that defies all my…

DESPERATE EYES 💓🤘🏻
Shot and filmed at SIR Studios Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles
“Ana Moll is an upcoming songstress playing on the heavy metal and melodic rock sounds of the 1980s and Hollywood’s Sunset Strip. Presenting to you a single from the upcoming EP, wrapped up in influences ranging all across the board, from Motley Crue to Samantha Fox. Heavily inspired by retro female frontrunners like Janet Gardner, Lorraine Lewis, and Lita Ford, Ana puts her own spin on the classic rockstar sound of days gone by with her girlish voice and distinctive songwriting. Ana honed her skills in writing at an early age and paired with her love of early MTV and Headbangers Ball videos, resulted in a fusion of serious rock-pop goodness. From a small Jersey town just like Bon Jovi she presents to listeners a fruit punch of electric guitars and soaring vocals. You’ll want to make sure not to miss the debut EP in the new year”

Unpopular Opinion but...
There aren't that many female musicians or girls in bands because no girl has ever thought...hmm maybe if I pick up a guitar and make crappy music on my laptop some guy will wana eat my p***y.
Women are never that lonely. They can be but not like men. A woman's problem is that she's never alone. Not enough to do isolated work. I should know, I'm a woman who comes from a family of all women.
Women don't have that deep. Isolated, sexual frustration mixed with angst, rejection and testosterone that young guys have.
They don't have to do something to make men attracted to them. They just have to open their dms and they can get a fee meal every day of the week. Guys can't.
Talent and artistry comes from isolation, struggle and action!!
Lots of women have no follow thru with playing an instrument. I should know I've tried to play music with other girls many times.
Ladies, if we want to hang with the guys we got to put in work like the guys. Stop worrying about what Brad is doing, stop only doing hobbies because of Brad...and most of all stop blaming your lack of success on men!
It's not men gatekeeping you honey...it's YOU gatekeeping YOU.
I'm disappointed with the lack of female contribution in Rock. My generation just has Hayley ( who is amazing) Williams, a straight girl. You would think that lesbians have the angst for it but no...at least Nancy Wilson, Amy Ray and Patti Smith did some stuff..but nobody really knows who they are.
Let's start kicking ass ladies. Let's rise against our female privileges and become lonely, cave dwelling, hobbit virgins so we can be as good as men at guitar!

Kamikaze Nurse — Stimuloso (Mint)
Tumblr media
Stimuloso by Kamikaze Nurse
Kamikaze Nurse kicks up a blinding scree of guitar sound and tempers it with melody, its two female singers bending white hot noise towards pop. Like Sonic Youth if fronted by the honey-dipped tones of the Sundays’ Harriet Wheeler, or like Cocteau Twins with more abrasion and sass, this second full-length updates and skews the shoegaze template. It’s kickier and more empowered than its 1990s forebears, willing to insert gossip-y spoken word intervals about crushing on the guy who fixes your car.
This is the second full-length from the Vancouver dream rock foursome, who, in addition to the two women— KC Wei and Sonya Eui — on guitar and bass respectively, include Ethan Reyes on guitar and John Brennan on drums.  Stimuloso is considerably more sharply delineated than 2019’s Bucky Fleur, possibly thanks to Greg Saunier’s hand at the mixing desk, and there’s a clear aesthetic: a pounding, blurring rain of guitars leavened by half-dreamed, tuneful vocals.
There are subtle variations. “Boom Josie” is bright and emphatic with its careening chorus and hooting, fluting vocals. The instruments are all clear and legible – the hard-slashed strumming, the wandering, thoughtful bassline, the crisp drumming—and yet there’s a definite swirl and swoon to the piece. It’s like an unusually realistic dream, brightly colored, sharp and driven by its own internal logic. “Come From Woods” is quieter at first, picked out on acoustic guitars and sung at a murmur but bubbling with suppressed, giddy energy. That energy explodes in a burst of drumming and a wild caterwauling of rock sounds. It reminds me a lot of Kristen Hersh’s recent material, both under her own name and with 50 Foot Wave, sparkly melodic but amped to oblivion.
“Pet Meds” is an odd, intriguing window into this band’s inner workings, beginning in a furious drum roll and opening out into an ascending onslaught of vocal and guitar sounds. The two women break, mid-cut, to discuss hunky mechanics, the rock chick lifestyle and the proper pronunciation of Neu! in a way that suggests the effortless chemistry between the principals. The guitars here are about as Sonic Youth-like as any on the disc, but with none of the arty seriousness that Kim Gordon brought to the mix. This is fun stuff, a splintering roar lit up by female energy comfortable with itself at play.
