What's better than a picture that has Pikmin vibes? Why, a picture that also has actual Pikmin as well, of course!

Everything is made with chocolate, candy, chocolate cream-filled cookies, and homemade marshmallow/crispy rice treats!
I didn't realize the Beady Long Legs coloring was red because my reference image was greyscale LOL

Lil tip from me: don't cook solely by one silly recipe that's from a fantasy game but...
Anyway! Today I tried my hand at Louie's Female Sheargrub Quiche!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've made a lot of mistakes and forgot some stuff but in the end I had something that worked out and tasted not too bad actually!
More details about my cooking experiment, as I'd like to call it, under the cut.
First of all, use a real quiche recipe. Additionally to what he mentions you'd need quiche dough (selfmade or store bought) and heavy cream (I didn't had any so I had to improvise with milk and flour, yikes...).
Everything went quite well actually. Most of it was improvising and guessing and just hoping it'll turn out in some bearable way tho...
Alright. As I obviously couldn't find and use real shearbugs I got creative. I used chicken meat and rubbed it in some hazelnuts cuz google said insects may taste a bit like nuts. I don't know if this somehow helped. (Some years ago a store was selling some mealworms and lil grasshoppers iirc. If it would still have sold them and I would have cooked for me alone and not had that eating fear anymore, I'd probably have taken those).
Tumblr media
So I was roasting the meat and cutting the veggies and the cheese. Instead of swiss cheese I had to use gouda as I couldn't find any (google said gouda is an alternative so that's why I took that). That's where I made a mistake. I actually had to grate the gouda cheese. But it wasn't that bad of a mistake I think.
Tumblr media
Everything (meat, veggies, cheese) had to be put into a big bowl then. You crack the eggs into it together with the cream and stir it.
Lastly, when you've put the dough in the form, you pour the mass onto it and spread it equally out. Then you put it in the oven for ~35 mins to ~170°C.
Tumblr media
After a long odyssey I can tell you that the devs did put thought into their game Louie's a good cook. It did taste quite good!
But again, use a real recipe and take his only as an inspiration.

My attempt at writing (Cpt. 1)
Alph woke up with a start. His eyes darted left and right as he took in his surroundings. “W-wait. Am I on PNF-404?” he murmured to himself, “Ugh. how far did I fall..?” He looked down at his hands. They seemed to be replaced by… Paws? It was at this moment he noticed something, or someone, standing above him,
“Hey… you took a pretty bad crash..” they (Or rather, she) said. Alph responded with a nervous nod. “Name’s Fawn.” she said. Alph could feel his heart racing. “U-um, yes..” he answered, Stammering. Fawn nodded, “I see that you’ve noticed your ‘different’ body?” Alph let out a shaky breath. “Y-yeah.” “It was the only way to save you.” Fawn replied. Alph stood up and brushed the dust off his legs. “So… what exactly are you?” he asked. Fawn sighed. “I’m a wraith.” she said this a little hesitantly, Alph didn’t notice. “Huh, where have I heard that before?” he whispered to himself, before shaking his head. “I’m sorry. I didn’t introduce myself, did I? My name is Alph. formerly the engineer on the S.S Drake. Now the Engineer of the S.S Hydra.” he avoided eye contact with Fawn, he just couldn't look into her deep purple eyes… he shook his head again. “I-I’m sure you saw others fall as I did?” Fawn nodded. “I did the same with them.” she glanced at a female sheargrub before continuing her sentence. “Brittany and Captain Charlie. I believe?” Alph nodded. Answering her question. Then he walked around, studying the place where he had fallen, taking mental notes. Before turning to Fawn. “have you seen a medium sized ship anywhere near here?”

Made a drawing inspired by a fic I made. It's a female Sheargrub from Pikmin. Taken in by the Player Character in Pikmin 4.
Her name is Sheeba :)

Sorry I can't draw the mouth. Also, the yellow is the color of the room wall.

Oh, another bit about the first Pikmin game I forgot: they consider a lot of the biology behind the enemies.
Dwarf Bulborbs (the most common enemies) aren't actual Bulborbs, they're "Breadbug Mimics" that have evolved to mimic the appearance of young Bulborbs in order to avoid predation.
Dwarf Bulbears, on the other hand, ARE young Bulbears.
The "Sporry Bulborbs" are large, nocturnal enemies, and are renamed "Red Bulborbs" in later games because Olimar discovered other Bulborb species that ALSO have spots.
Bulborbs are called Bulborbs because they're Grubdogs that remind Olimar of his own pet back at home: a Grubdog named Bulbie.
Waterdumples, while not resembling Bulborbs in the slightest (looking more like eyeless, slug-fish hybrids), are actually Grubdogs themselves.
Grubdogs don't look like dogs either.
Sheargrubs come in male and female variants (only the males are carnivorous) and a flying relative called "Shearwigs".
There are two Blowhog species: One that breaths fire, and another that floats like a balloon and blows Pikmin over and decreases their maturity level. The "Fiery Blowhog" has an internal organ that allows it to ignite the gas it expels as a defense mechanism, while the "Puffy Blowhog" instead uses its gas sack to float. Both have a scientific name that indicates they are related to real-life pigs.
You only encounter one (non-Bulborb mimic) Breadbug in the entire first game, but later games do feature more of them. Breadbugs are so named because they look like walking loathes of bread.
There are frog-like enemies known was "Wollyhops", white ones live underground (like in the Forest Naval) while yellow ones live on the surface. In future games, Yellow Wollyhops end up being more common than the regular Wollyhops.
There's a species called the "Burrowing Snarrow" that has never appeared on screen. We only know it exists because the enemy reel in the first game compares the Burrowing Snagret to it.
The Onions will only allow up to 100 Pikmin on the field at a time. if you exceed that number when discovering a new Onion, one of the Pikmin currently on the field will be quietly returned to their own Onion during the cutscene.
There's a species known as the "Mamuta", who only appears as a secret boss in the Impact site. Their only attack is to plant Pikmin in the ground and turn them into flowers.
There's another secret boss in the Distant Spring that can only be encountered on Day 15 or earlier by attacking the egg there and then letting it hatch without destroying it. This secret boss is the "Smoky Progg" which leaves a trail of toxic fumes that instakill all Pikmin that touch it, can roar to pluck Pikmin seeds off the ground, and is one of the few enemies in the game to not release a soul upon death. The enemy reel that plays after the credits of the good ending implies it is an undead Mamuta fetus, and is in fact considered its own species in spite of hatching from Mamuta eggs because of this.
Fascinating.

I want to go through all of the Pikmin creatures, giving my thoughts on them and go a little into my headcanons on their biology and behavior. While I won’t be going in any real order, I think the best place to start is with. Them.
Tumblr media
The common bulborb, Oculus Kageyamii Russus, is a nocturnal predator common in PNF-404’s forests. They sleep for most of the day, but start to get active around dusk and hunt throughout the rest of the night. They hunt small animals trying to return to their nests at night. Based on their size and habitat, I assume their usual prey items to be sheargrubs, skitterleaves, potentially flint beetles, young or weak fiery blow hogs, and of course Pikmin. Bulborbs live in small packs of 3-5, which hunt together and communally raise offspring. Pregnant bulborbs form egg sacs within their abdomens, through which they give live birth. These young larvae are buried in a small mound shortly after being born.
Tumblr media
Bulborb larvae are born limbless and lacking the distinctive coloring of their parents. Despite this, bulborbs are born fully capable of hunting and eating small prey (some would say too capable). At this age they are already nocturnal, leaving their burrows at night in large swarms. At some point in their development, they will molt into…
Tumblr media
Albino dwarf bulborbs, which I will be calling true dwarf bulborbs because the canon name sucks. This stage is much faster than the last on account of the legs, and so are able to leave their birth nest and explore on their own. They will still, however, stay burrowed during the day. They do this because of an interesting quirk of bulborb behavior. Bulborbs identify members of their own species by the coloration and spot patterns on their back. Larval bulborbs lack this coloration and as such are often preyed upon by adults. To avoid this, they only hunt at night, where their coloration is harder to see.
All terrestrial grub dogs share these first two life stages. It is only after the second molt that they gain their species unique characteristics. Second molt larva are basically miniature adults, usually rejoining their parents for protection as they grow.
An interesting quirk of the common bulborb is that in response to environmental changes, usually a shortage of resources, they go through monumental behavioral changes. The largest female in the area asserts dominance over her pack and potentially others, and her egg sac begins to swell to titanic proportions.
Tumblr media
The resulting creature is an empress bulblax, which will soon begin to give birth en mass. The rest of her pack are split into castes. The remaining females become workers whose job is to dig out and maintain the new colony’s burrow, to care for the larva, and to protect the colony from predators. The largest males will become drones that keep the empress pregnant. Males not involved in reproduction undergo natural sex changes and become extra workers (bulborbs say trans rights).
I’m not entirely sure why bulborbs respond to having less food by making more mouths to feed, but I assume that they’re trying to bunker down and weather the storm. They’re basically pooling their efforts together to outbreed the problem until it blows over.
Special shoutouts to jumbo bulborbs. Ecologically they’re not very interesting, they’re just bulborbs with a chromosomal disorder, but their piklopedia entry is the only instance sperm has ever been mentioned in a Nintendo game.
Overall, I like bulborbs. They’re very friend shaped, I feel like they would be good pets.
