FAT ASS is a queer and trans zine that centers on the experiences of queer and trans fat folks and celebrates the artistry, activism, and work of fat activists. For issue #3 of FAT ASS, we’re looking for submissions related to HEALTH TROLLING. FAT ASS zine recently received a grant from the NAAFA Fat Community Project Fund (naafa.org), enabling us to focus on HEALTH TROLLING in this issue. Submit your work to: fatasszine@gmail.com by February 28th, 2021. We are currently accepting submissions that explore the following topics under this theme: § Concern trolling/health trolling and social surveilliance of fat bodies;

§ Intersectional essays on fat trans and queer experiences with health trolling.

§ Health trolling clapbacks via art like doodles, rants, drawings, collages, paintings, photography etc.

§ Racist, classist, ableist, homo/bi/transphobic undertones of health promotion culture;

§ Fat bodies and food consumption practices;

§  Representations of fat bodies and consumption in the media;

§ Impact of fat and consumption-based stigma on queer and trans folks’ livelihood;

§ Activist efforts to counter health trolling, concern culture, and toxic diet industry messages for our activist spotlight section. Nominate a friend or yourself for this section! §  Have an idea that’s not listed above? Send it anyway! NOTE: We do not condone the empty promises of diet culture so please do not send us diet regimens, “weight loss stories,” before/after pics or other fat-shaming bullshit! It is a myth that you must be a “good writer” or “good artist” to submit to a zine. We welcome many kinds of writing and artwork: essays, poetry, short stories, photography, doodles, rants, drawings, cartoons/comics, collage…and more! For written submissions, please use Microsoft Word and submit your writing in .doc or .docx format. (Please try to limit submissions to 2500 words. We are flexible. Let us know if you need a little extra space.) For artwork, please attach high resolution .jpg images to your email. Please include a title for your artwork and any information you think would be pertinent for readers to know about your piece (i.e.: medium, location, tools used). Contributors have the option of sharing a short bio or publishing their work anonymously. All contributors will receive a free color copy in the mail! We rigorously support the work of Black, Indigenous, People of Colors’ (BIPOC) and prioritize submissions from these communities.

FAT ASS Zine Issue #2 - Call for Submissions!

Call for Submissions! FAT ASS is an intersectional queer/feminist zine that centers the experiences of queer and trans fat folks and celebrates the artistry, activism, and work of queer/tras fat activists. For issue #2 of FAT ASS, we’re looking for submissions celebrating Queer/Trans Fat Sexuality and Sensuality. We are seeking submissions that address the following themes (and more!): § Fat queer/trans self-love and stories about pleasure and sensual indulgence. § Celebrations of fat and queer/trans sexuality in drawings, illustrations, photography, collage, and other forms of art. § Intersectional analyses of media representations of fat sexuality with particular attention to race, class, nationality, and disability status. § Decolonizing fat, trans/queer/two spirit sexualities. § Erotic/sensual poetry, prose, short fiction that affirms and celebrates fat queer sexuality. § Activist projects that affirm and validate fat queer/trans sexuality for our activist spotlight section. § Healing from sexual trauma from the perspective of fat, queer/trans people. § Have an idea not listed here? Submit anyway! It is a myth that you must be a “good writer” or “good artist” to submit to a zine. We welcome many kinds of writing and artwork: essays, poetry, short stories, photography, doodles, rants, drawings, cartoons/comics, collage…and more! FEMINIST ZINE FEST NYC ROUND UP! Sunday a jammed packed day! There were hundreds of amazing feminist babes who came out in droves to swap and share and snag zines from dozens of amazing zinesters at this year’s NYC Feminist Zine Fest! Eternal love and thanks to @jonastygram1 for always letting Support Ho(s)e table crash, @grl_trbl for the great company (and french fries), @barenola for their lit so we could talk with people about their struggle and recent victory, and Aaron for all the help selling zines to raise commissary funds for Alisha! It was so lovely to see and support Vikki Law and Mariame Kaba with their beautiful anti-carceral print projects too!
