oh, my dear boy. parties make him anxious so he really doesn't enjoy them. he can't drink because he'll get sick. well, he gets sick anyway, he has a surprisingly sensitive stomach and it's worse when he's anxious. thus, our angel spends a lot of his time in the bathroom. last year he missed midnight because of it.

annie, on the other hand, sits on the floor of the living room or wherever they may be and either reads the labels of whatever she can find or looks around for any pets. now, if reiner is there, she is picking a fight, but that's a different story

mikasa

is slightly intoxicated on wine before she even gets to the celebration at eren's. sometimes she needs to be in order to listen to him without tearing her hair out.

jean, connie, marco, and sasha

they're together all night so.... putting them as one. oddly enough none of them really care about midnight they just use it as an excuse to hang out and have gummies that jean got from his cousin. marco eats way more gummies than he should because it helps his tics and jean always has to tell him to stop at some point.

thus, while jean, connie, and sasha are having a toast at midnight for the hell of it, marco is flat on the couch babbling about how he can't feel his teeth

historia and ymir

they usually just go out drinking a bit in the evening then have one of their friends bring them home so they can stay in together and watch the countdown themselves.

they rarely show up at new year's parties but when they do it's usually historia's idea and ymir just gets dragged along. they have had to leave several times because of fights being started.

erwin, levi, and hange

they are literally just. two gen x's and their millennial pal. it literally does not matter how much erwin drinks, he's calm the whole time and doesn't really make it obvious. levi doesn't drink at all he will literally just have tea. yes, tea, even on new year's eve.

hange sometimes has to be evicted into the garage for timeout because they get way too hype at the countdown and have on several occasions broken something in the living room at midnight

reiner and bertholdt

they usually just hang out with their dog but might bring her with them if they decide to visit friends for the night. she's their anchor to make sure they don't get carried away with alcohol or what have you because they still have to be responsible dads obviously

bert has a very low social battery and is most likely asleep not even five minutes past midnight. reiner however takes a while to get relaxed so he usually just tries to read for a bit while bert kicks around in his sleep lmao

porco and pieck

they literally just stay in his room with his cat and tune out the tv until midnight because they both think the performances are garbage. every now and then though they'll turn it up and ruthlessly judge the performer whether it be their outfit, moves, lipsyncing, etc. or if they just don't like the person in general because they're both spiteful of celebrities

zeke

sits either on a chair or couch, silently, 12oz can of cerveza palma in one hand, cigarette in the other, continuously checking his watch even though the time is on the tv. blows one of those paper party horns at exactly 12:00am then gets up and goes to bed

after they argue they’re really petty and will ignore each other for hours until one of them pokes his head into the other’s room and asks if he wants food

if levi asks zeke to go to the store and get something for him he’ll go but get everything except the thing he asked for whether he meant to or not and drives home with absolute dread awaiting levi’s wrath

they fight over who gets what spot on the couch and levi threatens to sit on him if he doesn’t move. of course he moves so naturally levi always gets the spot he wants

one of the few occasions where they aren’t at each others throats is when they’re singing together in the car. they can put their differences aside for the duration of take me home country roads

falco gives the BIGGEST hugs. like if they haven't seen each other for a while? boy is gonna come running and knock that girl over with a bear hug. she's the same way though so no problems

unfortunately falco is gabi's only source of common sense so once that source of common sense is gone all hell breaks loose

falco used to hate animated movies but gabi LOVES studio ghibli so she forced him to watch her favorite movie and now spirited away is falco's favorite movie too

no matter how old they get neither of them will ever get over building pillow forts. reiner will come home and hear laughing from gabi's room and he walks in to find them sitting underneath a cavern of blankets and pillows with a flashlight making dumb faces at each other

neither of them can cook for shit (falco can maybe make toast) so their go-to "date night food" is gummies and rice krispies

gabi is so oblivious :/ it took like 3 confessions from falco for her to finally get the hint

sometimes jean will randomly pick up armin from under the arms and just kinda swing him around

their habits and behaviors rub off on each other. jean says “GOSH” (one of armin’s phrases) and armin rubs his nose when he’s nervous (one of jean’s nervous habits)

at first jean only knew about “gay” and “straight” so he was so god damn confused when he had feelings for both men and women then armin explained what bisexuality is to him and he was like OHHH

they have a lot of movie nights and they settle who picks the movie like real men. rock paper scissors best 2 out of 3

they have two guinea pigs, jean only wanted one but armin said it would get lonely so they got two. armin named one of them haybale and jean named the other terry. jean feels personally attacked by haybale

sometimes they cut each other’s hair; jean’s the one that gave armin his haircut before s4. armin HATED it at first but it grew on him partially bc jean complimented it a lot even though he’s the one that did it

none of this is a ship. this is father and kids dynamic

individually, the kids only really rest with levi on purpose if they're going through something and need the comfort or if they're just attention seeking. the two main culprits:

sasha in particular is prone to nervous breakdowns and levi openly offers to pet her hair when she does because this is the best way to make her calm down, but it makes her really sleepy. one time she fell asleep with her back leaning against his shoulder and he was pretty surprised, but he didn't try to wake her up or slide her off because she looked content and peaceful

connie often sprawls himself out across levi on the couch like some sort of cat because he's a whore for attention and sometimes manages to fall asleep like that. levi kind of just shakes his head and lets him rest across his lap while he watches tv because he finds it endearing

other than those two, armin snoozes with levi sometimes because he is afraid of lightning and will show up at levi's room during a storm since levi is the only one who knows about this fear cause he's the only one armin trusts to not make fun of him for it. levi is very calm and patient with armin and even lets him sleep in his room if it would make him feel better.

if levi is watching tv on the couch eren will often sit on the ground in front of him and ramble to him for a while until he inevitably falls asleep on the floor. levi just kind of goes tsk when he realizes eren has fallen asleep and will drape a blanket over him then turn the tv volume down until he wakes up. eren is a terrible child but the least a guy can do is keep his kid warm smh

levi himself is pretty much a cat and dozes off in the sun a lot. if the kids see him they stop whatever they are doing and come up to him, and before you know it, levi is gently used as a pillow for a half dozen kids who cuddle up to him, sprawl across his stomach, or just lay around him as close as they can get.

as not to disturb them, levi pretends to be asleep. of course, he’s actually awake. and probably the happiest man alive.

(sometimes though the kids and levi DO actually all fall asleep like that. one time erwin found eren, mikasa, armin, jean, connie, and sasha all clinging onto or snuggling very close up to levi and they were all asleep. he didn't know what led up to this but he let them be because they all looked peaceful.)

if he’s getting out of hand erwin will pick him up from underneath the arms and carry him away at a distance. levi kicks around but can’t wiggle free because erwin is inescapable

he’s very touch starved. a childhood and young adulthood of touch deprivation made him an adult desperate for physical affection but at the same time scared of it

well for starters, it’s hard being a mother of six especially when you’re a man approaching his late 30s

thankfully some of his kids are pretty self sufficient (armin and mikasa) so he doesn’t have to worry about them much. unfortunately though that means armin and mikasa have little to no supervision and get into fights a lot, as sibling figures often do

when they were younger levi literally had to keep connie and sasha on harnesses when they went shopping because they kept running off, breaking things, getting into fights, etc etc. it was so humiliating the first time that they got their act together and the leashes haven’t been necessary since

sasha helps him cook sometimes even though he insists he can do it himself. "heichou you need my help you've been trying to strain this spaghetti for ten minutes"

levi doesn’t have a clue how video games work and connie calls him a normie for not knowing how many blocks of obsidian it takes to build a nether portal. he has sudokus on his phone that’s all he needs

despite being a whole foot taller than levi, jean is so god damn scared of him. he mostly attributes it to the time levi walked in on him vaping and jean tried to hide the whole vape in his mouth, but levi literally pried his jaws open like “jean. jean, drop it. drop it.”

ymir and historia moved out a while ago and levi misses them sometimes but he sure doesn't miss all the times they made him take pictures of them for photo albums

eren and jean don’t fight as much as they used to but when they did, levi would trick them into getting along by convincing them to hold hands and whoever let go first was a sore loser. it led to a lot of arguments between them during this so it was pretty common to see eren and jean yelling in each other’s faces while holding death grips on each other’s hands. eventually they’d settle down though and laugh about it

armin has a pet bunny which he places in levi’s lap as often as he can. he doesn’t explain why, just puts her there and leaves before levi can protest. armin says he does this because the bunny loves being pet by levi (he’s very gentle with her) and second because levi actually looks very content and peaceful while he pets her. sometimes they can even see a smile tugging at his lips a bit

whenever the kids see that levi is unnecessarily overworking himself they’re gonna hide some of his work and/or books and basically force him to relax. it makes them feel better to see him laze around and get well-earned rest

okay so this is super specific but I think as one of his first jobs when he was about 17 or 18 reiner worked at target and naturally, gabi (who was 9 at the time) absolutely loved target and forced him to go in on his days off to take her shopping and he dreaded every moment but he’s a Good Cousin so he put up with it

at the ripe old age of 21 reiner still has to take gabi to target every two weeks or so because it’s one of her favorite stores and even though he hasn’t worked there in years, stepping inside is nauseating but at least he gets to have a slushie by the end of it

with that being said he buys slushies for gabi and her friends all the time but gabi usually has to get 2 because she drinks them fast enough that she doesn’t have to swirl her straw around in the flavorless ice chunks at the bottom

her stomach is also a bottomless pit so Good Cousin Reiner has to take her and her friends out to eat every time they hang out. the go-to is mcdonalds

actually also on the topic of target, sometimes porco tags along but he’s the biggest child of them all. everytime reiner and the kids go to target the kids take turns sitting in the cart but if porco is with them he will FIGHT those kids to earn his rightful spot sitting in the cart with reiner pushing him around

anyway him and gabi have no chill with each other like reiner will pick her up and toss her across a room onto a couch or she’ll dive at his ankles and knock him down but other than that he’s super gentle with all her friends

like you’d think he’s actually falco’s dad. he’s so nice to that kid. lots of piggyback rides and pats on the head

the respect is mutual and falco knows that he gets worn down really quickly so pieck taught him how to make reiner’s favorite tea and when falco first surprised him with a cup of it reiner had never felt so appreciated

a few of the kids are scared of lightning but he lowkey is too so they hang out together during storms to keep each other calm

sometimes zofia paints reiner’s nails while he rambles about his mental health and they share a lot of secrets between each other about their respective friend groups

since most of the kids don’t have a father in their lives for one reason or another, every year on father’s day they scrape up money together from their allowances and whatever else they can find to pull together gifts for reiner. maybe that new pair of shoes he hasn’t been able to afford, or a food he really likes that he hasn’t had in a while, or a new hoodie because bertholdt keeps taking his, whatever it is that will let them see him smile. they may be huge pains in the ass, but they care about him just as much as he cares about them.

kids make him really nervous and intimidate him because he already has to deal with hange who is pretty much a child in and of themselves but this means he also has a bit of experience with responsibility. he’s lowkey really good at cooking and his signature meal is homemade waffles. when he isn’t making food he’s nervously trying to keep track of the children and make sure they don’t break anything

kids don’t like her as a babysitter because she’s too strict and “isn’t any fun.” in general she’s very responsible and keeps everything in order but when she tries to “have fun” with the kids she always ends up turning it into something educational. for example if they want to watch a superhero movie with her she’ll watch it but pause now and then to make comments like “no society possesses technology that advanced to make a man fly” and the kids are just like >:(

kids LOVE him. he’s such a fun babysitter and will gladly roleplay wild west scenarios with them, costumes and all, and he’s super dramatic and enthusiastic about it too. unfortunately because of this he wears himself out very quickly so he has to hype himself up on coffee to manage until the kids go to bed. he’s very playful and sometimes will randomly pick them up from under the arms and swing them around. if he’s in a particularly good mood he’ll let them put makeup on him

it’s hard to tell what she thinks of children but the children definitely find her... interesting. children like to crawl on her and climb her because she’s an absolute tree of a woman and she doesn’t do anything about it, she just lets it happen. she’s a very good attendee at tea parties and is very respectful to the stuffed animals whom she seems to be more concerned about than the children themselves. if for some reason you decide to have her babysit again, she’ll bring a stuffed monkey of her own to attend future tea parties
