Greenhouse
Tumblr media
A friend of mine has what he calls his “greenhouse.”
It’s not much to speak of. Really, it’s just a raised bed in his backyard. With a simple wooden frame top.
It’s got plastic sheeting stapled to it, to let in the sun and stop the wind. He uses it to protect the bed, so that his tomatoes can get an early start. And it works.
The pile of tomatoes that he gives away every year says that it’s a successful greenhouse. Even if it’s not much to look at.
It’s a stark contrast from the professionally built greenhouse that came with the house a mutual acquaintance of ours bought a few years ago.
Knee-high fieldstone walls, with gleaming metal and glass above. It’s got an automatic watering system, grow lights for the winter, and heated floors. Everything you could ask for in a greenhouse.
Except plants. The new owner isn’t interested in growing anything it.
Which makes it not much of a greenhouse. More of a nice-looking room, with a lot of dirt.
The difference between the two greenhouses? Only one of them is really a greenhouse. Because only one of them is being used for what it was meant for.
It’s like what we see in today’s Gospel. Where Jesus calls out the Pharisees, for how they fill the hole. For doing all of the right things. For none of the right reasons.
At the heart of everything that we do is a hole. Waiting to be filled with meaning, with purpose.
How we fill that hole determines whether we’re really doing the good that we could be doing – for others, for ourselves. Or just going through the motions.
If we fill that hole with anything but God, eventually even the best of things will become hollow at best. Maybe even the means to abuse ourselves and others.
Why? Because the hole at the heart of everything we do is made to be filled with only one thing. God.
When we do fill that hole with God, we will find that even the seemingly least important things in life will become a means of grace. And a path to home.

fic writer asks!
1 and/or 4 and/or 14 and/or 18 and/or 25
🦔🐈🐒🦌🦒
1. the last sentence you wrote
Technically four sentences, but it's all part of the same bit of dialogue so I'm counting it. Context is that Ted thinks firing Dr. Sharon will get him out of the time loop (it does not).
“Well, it’s just she is quite popular,” Higgins said. “A lot of clubs have sports psychologists — not Richmond, because Rupert was, well, Rupert, but I’ve heard good things. About Dr. Fieldstone, especially. But it is your call, Ted, of course. I should have run it by you.”
4. a story idea you haven’t written yet
I have an idea for a Magnus Archives fic that I'm not sure if I'll ever write where after Jon and Martin destroy the panopticon at the end of season 5, everyone is suddenly transported back into their bodies from the start of season 1 with their memories either from the end of season 5 or from when they died, whichever came first for that character. So Jon goes from eldritch being back to regular person, Martin is caring for his dying mother again knowing why she hates him, Tim's furious at everyone and from his perspective just died in the wax museum, and Sasha doesn't understand why her colleagues all do a double-take when they see her, like it takes them a second to place who she is. I have no plot to go with this idea I just think it's delightfully angsty.
14. where do you get your inspiration?
For fanfic, there's sometimes specific parts of canon that just strike me with the need to write, but for the most part I don't actually know where I get my inspirations — usually I'm just going about my day and then suddenly a story idea comes out of nowhere and whacks me in the face. And then continues whacking me in the face until I write it.
18. if you keep them, share a deleted sentence or paragraph from a published fic
I actually don't have that many, but here's a brief meditation on Ted and Beard's friendship which I believe was in chapter 5 of THD.
Stranger than that was Beard. Not because he and Ted were on different pages when it came to Jamie’s dad — Willis was loyal as all get out but it was the kind of loyalty where he considered it his scared duty as Ted’s friend to set him on the right path when he thought he was headed down the wrong one — but the way he stood tense and quiet, clearly listening to the man on the bench but very deliberately not looking at him.
25. besides writing, what are your other hobbies?
I also knit! Here's a picture of my favourite sweater that I made. (I also made the blanket in the background)

Cabin Vacation Rentals
Why Mountain Cabin Rentals
The mixture between comfort and adventure offered by mountainside cabin rentals is uncanny. They are just designed with families in mind. Quite often, cabins reside amidst the beauty of nature in the most peaceful and calm areas. In contrast to hotel stays, mountain lodges not only offer families privacy but also ample space, allowing them to relax in a quiet place.
Cozy and Comfortable Accommodations
One of the major benefits of booking the cabin vacation rentals is the warm atmosphere. Modern facilities within these cabins make sure your stay is comfortable. All of the two, three conveniences like fully-equipped kitchens, large sitting rooms, and numerous bedrooms contribute to making a homey feeling prepared and installed for a family. There are also many added luxuries in most cabins.
Proximity to Nature
Most mountain cabin rentals are located in places that have wonderful natural beauty. This means views are of great importance, and many outdoor activities for families are easily accessible. Opportunities from hiking to fishing to horseback riding and identifying wildlife. In fact, the natural surroundings usually present great learning opportunities for children about the environment.
Activities for the Whole Family
The best thing about family-friendly mountain cabin rentals is that there are a large number of activities to do. Here, we have described a few for your next vacation:
Trekking and Nature Walks
One also ought to have the Great Outdoors tour when at the mountain cabins. Some of the trails, for example, Old Rag Mountain Hike, provide a spectacular look while hiking and present one with a rewarding experience. Shenandoah National Park easier trails make must-do activities families with smaller children. These hikes are not only good for physical activity but also for an educational walk-past through various plants and irritating wildlife.
Vineyard and Wine Tasting Tours
A visit to a local vineyard can be quite nice for parents wanting to take advantage of some adult time. Sharp Rock Vineyards and DuCard Vineyards get closer to their customers through samples and tours of how wine is produced in the beautiful environment. While the adults enjoy great wines, most vineyards come with family-friendly activities and beautiful picnic spots for all to enjoy.
Human Horseback
Fieldstone Trail offers horseback riding tours focused around any riding experience. It is an activity that families can enjoy as they explore scenic trails on horseback, providing a unique and thrilling peek at the area. Lots of fun for children and adults, with an element of adventure and fun within nature.
Exploring the historic downtown area
Getting a break indoors in one of the many historic downtown areas nearby, like Culpeper Downtown, is a perfect way to spend time with your family. Here, families can enjoy looking around little shops and stop to have lunch or learn something about local history in the area. This is the perfect avenue to thread through an easy afternoon while soaking up the culture and ambiance of a place.
Family-friendly parks
And for an easier day with the family, Rappahannock County Park is there. It has a playground, picnic spots, and walking paths—the most suitable spot for family leisure. Here, children can play under safe circumstances, while parents are enjoying the view.
