During my #cancerjourney, often the worse I felt (and looked) the more open I became to downloading #wisdom & #inspiration. When I did, I shared it w/ others as in this video. I believe it's been ten years or close to ten years since I met Orville. It was at @spitdatdc back when it was on U Street in the Mocha Hut. Him and his cousin(that I've known since middle school) would come through. Back then I was trying to be more of a poet than a photographer. I remember him being super passionate about his art & being encouraging about my work. I stepped away from poetry for about 6 years because I had a son & my life got hectic. I come back, I'm shooting events & one of the first poetry events I shoot(@fightingcancerwithpoetry) Orville is there. He starts talking about his cousin and how they used to perform on U Street all the time. After the event, I walk up to him and I'm like "You Passmore cousin, I'm happy to see still out here". We started talking about my brother, Spit Dat & @_marybowman basketball tournament. We'd see each other at events and it was all love. Fast forward a year later and O hits me like "Aye bro what you doing the first Wednesday in June? I want you to shoot the 4 year anniversary of Pure Poetry ". Unbeknownst to him, I wasn't planning on shooting the rest of the year & I was about to quit. His call came with perfect timing. Move up to now and Orville is 5 years into hosting Pure Poetry & putting out a album. I'm excited for this. I’m a tortured soul with broken pieces. They cut and, at times, they sting; but, they remain there like scars from a bad burn. I feel the pain wither from time to time, grow larger with each tear drop, every throb of my heart pulsating. I’d like to think of myself as a loner. I was never the kid who felt like they fit in. I was always too grungy to be popular or too trapped inside my head to have a decent number of friends. I sometimes feel the shakes, you know, like the ones smokers get when they go too long without a fix. I felt that today. I felt the same way I felt six years ago when all I could do was cry and be miserable and sad. Back when I tried to be strong for those who needed me to lean on, except no one did. I felt so alone. I still feel so alone.
