Some Fakemon designs I finished up last month for spooky season!
Goomy > Sliggoo > Goolossal I first designed the Goomy about a year ago and have been stalling on the evolutions ever since, but I’ve finally gotten to them. Felt fitting for a regional form that gains the Bug type to be based on parasites, leucochloridium to be specific!
Mermorbid "A certain Galarian researcher has stumped the scientific community with her discovery and revival of a supposed ancient mermaid-like Pokemon. The origin of this fossil is unclear." Pretty much just imagine the Fiji mermaid crossed with the Galar fossils. Nobody remembers the original Pokemon so they think its a new species! :)
Impidimp > Morgrem > Grimmurk Based on the Toronto tunnel monster! They lurk dark sewers and probably smell like wet dog.

HOAX of the Day: Fiji Mermaid
Description: One of the more well known hoaxes of cryptozoology, the mermaid was displayed in PT Barnum’s traveling circus as an authentic mermaid like creature captured by a man named “Dr. J Griffin” in 1842. Turned out to be a monkey sewed to a fish and covered in papier mache. There’s actually been a few Fiji mermaids created over the years by rival circus groups.

I just realized that the spell monkey fish (PF1e Advanced Class Guide 188; 1st level transmutation, +10 Climb & Swim speeds in light or no armor) is equally likely a reference to the Fiji Mermaid (itself used as the art for the Ningyo [Bestiary 4 206, Pathfinder AP #37 -- Serpent's Skull 1: Souls for Smuggler's Shiv 80]) as it is to Sea Monkeys (which also inspired the Coral Capuchin [Bestiary 6 66, Pathfinder AP #58 -- Skull and Shackles 4: Island of Empty Eyes 82]).
This just leaves a playable race and a magic item to complete the set of ridiculous piscisimian hybrids.

I’ve recently gotten in cryptids and I decided to draw one! This one is based off the Fiji Mermaid, which funnily enough isnt a cryptid anymore but it used to be one so….close enough? Anyways I was compelled to draw it once I learned about it so here it is!

Down here is the reference

(This isn’t the actual Fiji mermaid, rather a replica made of paper-mâché. But this looks close enough to what it might have actually looked like)
Here is the Wikipedia page for anyone interested
more cryptid artworks are on the way!

On This Day in Cryptid History
June 18th: In 1842, PT Barnum entered into an agreement with Moses Kimball to exploit his newly purchased Fiji Mermaid. While Kimball would remain the Mermaid’s owner, he’d lease it to Barnum to show in his circus.
