I'm gonna be lazy and copy+paste my comment on youtube onto here too...

Making this video was like book ends for me. I became interested in Magia Record because of online magical girl transformation compilation videos.

I was a day one player for the North American server-- I became really obsessed with the quotes the girls would say, so I started my first youtube channel and uploaded clips of what they were for anyone else who was curious. This grew into recording Magical Girl Stories, Events, and Log-in stories, but it was a slow process.

When the NA EOS was announced, I dealt with my sadness by recording as much content as possible. I actually damaged my eyes by focusing on screens too much. I became acquainted with the Magia Union Translations server and started recording videos for Antimony and friends.

Then a bunch of copyright claims started to go out, targeting the music used in the videos. At this point I started hosting and paying for a google drive to upload everything to just as a backup. We were able to get videos back up by filing disputes but we were all really nervous for a few months on what to do. Additionally, since a bunch of channels were now no longer hosting magia record recorded game content, I decided to make this second channel and host those too.

And at the end of JP EOS, I've gone full circle. I started by being interested in this game because of the cool transformation video compilations, and now I've made one of my own. It's a weird sense of closure.

heres the tower of power aka my lovely desktop lovers. i dont have my own place so my cumputers are all stacked up in my very small bedroom i rent.

from the bottom up, here we have the black deepcool case from my first gaming pc build. rn it has an older gaming setup board in it that i took from work, and am going to turn into a NAS archive.

right of that is the strikingly handsome Compaq AP550 workstation, a dual Slot One CPU system ive populated with two Pentum IIIs but have yet to start up!

to his right is one of my two gateway G series desktops, a GP7-500, which i believe is sporting a Pentium II i shoved in there mostly for storage, and to use its Pentium III in the compaq, hahah. my second gateway tower is atop him, a G6-350 with a Pentium II.

to her left is another generic build, the newest among my vintage desktop computers, sporting a Pentium 4. i named her Nike after the very coincidentally formed mark on her front which i cant bring myself to wipe away =]

above her, obfuscated by the coyote prayer flags from artist CoyoticTroubles, is my Macintosh SE, Sarah! she was the first vintage computer i ever owned! i got her when i was a teenager from a flea market. she sports dual diskette drives and an ultradrive 80 Si hard disk with some interesting files on it. since i didnt get her from my work, i was able to keep the data on her disk. hopefully it hasnt all been lost, since i havent turned her on since highschool! heres a clear photo of her:

to her right you can see one of my many toughbooks, a projector, and a somewhat busted up tape drive. ill post some more individual photos sometime soon maybe! something more intimate. id also like to do sensual repair or maintenance or upgrade POV videos with them!

Since you don't see many edits here, and i am a dumbass in editing, could you make a tutorial on it? Like: what apps should we use, what should or shouldn't do, devices, etc. Since i personally worship your editing prowess, i couldn't help myself but ask for your guidance sensei. 🙇‍♀️

I don't use a "special device" to make my edits, just a computer which can run a videoediting software and Wallpaper Engine correctly (in my case it's an Apple Mac Pro 4,1 from 2009 with upgraded RAM and GPU, and also with Windows 10 installed on it, but that's not important). My server pc build out of my spare parts, and it's serves as a network bridge, and a file storge (like a NAS, or something) to store my personal files, like the assets for the edits on HPP. The way I make my edits, is a different story. I like to put the charaters in different scenarios to make the edit more enjoyable. I usually chose one image from my pre-granarated ones, or I use (if i see a, as i call an edit "suspicious" image here on Tumblr or X) an image from my "Likes", or if I can't find any which is good for the scanario in my head I generate one using PixAI's Ebora Pony XL AI model. Than if I have an image, I put together a static version of the edit in Paint.NET (PaintdotNET). Here I cut down the unnecessary and the broken (weirdly generated hands, .etc) parts of the image, and I remove the background if I'd like to use a different one. Than I chose a stethoscope png what are suitable for the edit, but I recently using the hand with stethoscope one which you can see in my recent edits. I also make some barely visble changes to the main image and the stething image. If it's done, and looks good I save them (the base image, the background, and the steting png separately) in a folder. After that it's time to "animate" the edit, which is just using the Wallpaper Engine's built in Shake effect, if that part is done, I record the animated soundless edit using OBS, which is usually a 5-6 minutes raw mp4 file. Than I put the raw recording into the video editor which is my case is the Wondershare Filmora X. I chose one of the heartbeat and bearthing audios from my server (if it's needed I modify it a bit in Audacity), and speed them up to mach with the animation. I make the breathing way quieter to have the heartbeat in focus, also i duplicate the hb sound to make a stereo effect, which means the I make the left side a bit louder and add more bass to it than the right side, which make a really good heart pulse effect (ROLL CREDITS). Also in here I add some video effects, cut down the unnecessary parts, I cut down the video to 2 minutes to become uploadable for X, than it's time to export it. After I exported the final edit, i check it for mistakes and I fix them if i find any, and the fixed version gonna be uploaded to Tumblr and X. This whole process is 2+ hours usually, but it's could be more for longer and more complex edits. But you doesn't need to follow my way to make edits, if you ever used a photo editor and a video editor before, and you know how put a transparent png on an image, and a greenscreen video on another one, you good to go. There is a lot of ways you can make an edit, so you can chose one which are suitable for you. I've been thinking long and hard about the BDS Microsoft Boycott call. The request focused on Microsoft Games, on the basis that, in theory, that's the easiest part of the Microsoft financial ecosystem for people to disconnect from in order to send a message. This includes pushing people (including parents) to uninstall and get their kids to stop playing Minecraft.

First off, the way the game industry is now, unfortunately, is that game developers or even full divisions of larger companies that underperform - or even just indy developers who self publish and underperform, just get shut down and everyone gets fired. Even if we boycott South of Midnight as part of the BDS movement and clearly communicate that message, what's more likely to happen is the company would be shut down, everyone would be fired, and a bunch of alt-right chuds would ignore the BDS boycott and call this a triumph of "Get Woke, Go Broke". They might even try to co-opt the movement as a half alliance of convenience, half desire to redirect the movement for antisemitic ends, with no actual interest in the plight of the Palestinian people.

There was an opportunity here to point people towards alternatives outside of either abandoning the software entirely, or alternative programs people who want to boycott can use to abandon something that they didn't think they could.

First, and this feels weird to say, Minecraft is something that doesn't have a lot of alternative replacements - it's a sandbox that allows children to indulge their imagination to create large scale ambitious projects that can't be replicated the same way as, for example, Lego, because they take no space in the real world, and thus you have no real world storage concerns, both in terms of space and in terms of risk of damage. The alternative to Minecraft isn't Palworld or Ark Survival Evolved. It's Roblox. And Roblox is also a bunch of dark patterns and sexual predators stacked on top of each other in a trenchcoat.

Now, on the other hand, Microsoft will happily charge you money to host a Minecraft server through them, and that puts money in the Azure division, the part that is directly aiding and abetting Israeli war crimes. But you don't have to go through Microsoft. You can run your own Minecraft server. Microsoft even tells you how to do it.

So, cancel your Minecraft Worlds subscription, and roll your own server. You can even set it up so it stays in your network, so your kid's friends have to come over to use it (or so it stays in the family).

Next up - Microsoft pushes OneDrive hard as part of Windows 11. They also pushed it hard on Windows 10. They insist that it's the best and biggest way, and easiest way to backup your data. It's not. There are myriad alternatives, from Google Drive, to Dropbox, to the Apple iCloud (if you use iOS devices). And, OneDrive uses Azure Cloud services to host your data

So, disable OneDrive, and go somewhere else. I've listed several alternatives above, but if you're okay with the backup being on site, you can also build a NAS (Network Attached Storage) server to store files locally. This does have the disadvantage that if something damages your house, your kinda in trouble, though using something like Backblaze on the NAS can make up for that.

Then there's the whole Microsoft 365 suite. Azure is connected to the Microsoft Office part of the business, and they've been incorporating some of those services, like Copilot, into Microsoft 365. So, again, there are alternatives.

LibreOffice has been around for years, is free, and runs locally with no cloud hooks. You can replace Outlook with Thunderbird, or the BetterBird fork.

Finally, there are the hooks to Copilot, which also runs on Azure, which Microsoft runs in the operating system. Turn that shit off.

I hate to do this on such short notice, but today's and Friday's streams are canceled, and streams are suspended for a little while.

I'm uploading ~36TB of backups to my dedicated server, so I can reinitialize the array on my NAS so I can utilize all 168TB of space, so I can pull down the files on my server that aren't on my NAS.

This is so I can cancel the payments for the dedicated server, so I can afford the monthly payments for the mocap suit I got for future streams.

This has to be done as quickly as possible, and I'm using scp so I can't reasonably pause it. Please understand. I'm sorry.

And Haematite is up and running. Annoying hum from the SATA power converters but only because it's sitting right next to me while I do initial setup. Total volume is something like 6.5 liters.

Single fan at the bottom because I've been dealing with a similar two-drive commercial NAS at work and those drives get SO toasty under sustained loads. Do not like.

It's very funny to see this next to my old storage server: a raspberry pi and a hard drive held together with rubber bands.

I have TrueNAS Scale up and running. Core was tempting but so much software just does not run reliably on BSD, plus I'd have to deal with bringing the Network drivers which isn't hard but I want this to be low-maintenance, so Linux it is, sorry BSD.

NextCloud is running in a container with access to the storage, busy doing a test upload of some photos from when my brother and sister-in-law were here to kick the tyres on Memories. 14TB of storage should last me a while. I'll set up a Deluge client and stuff for Linux isos and media but that's largely secondary to making it so I can go "what kind of animal did I see in 2012" and just go look at those.

I'll do a write up on the parts and printing and publish the design files sometime soon in case you want to make one of these. There are a few people making various printed PC cases, there's one guy whose designs mostly flat-print and then bolt together which is neat.

The system could do with more memory so I've ordered another RAM DIMM to drop in there, which will take me up to 24GB from 8GB. Yes that's mismatched. It's fine.

In an effort to scream on tumblr more other than posting completed art uhhh.. I'm very excited for the Madoka movie in 2024! So I wanted to give a shot at making a persona. The only kind of self insert I've made in the past were witch versions, but I never made one of myself as a magical girl in the universe. I really liked in Magia Record that Yachiyo and Mifuyu we older magical girls, and that they've been magical girls for a while. So, I felt it was fitting for my persona! I was 11 when Madoka finished airing and when I first watched it- So when I first played the NA servers for Magia Record, I was really happy there were characters the same age as me? It was comforting to me for some reason. I kinda did some allusions to Madoka's magical outfit, since I looked up to her a lot as a kid (especially Madokami). Also looked at some of my old files of 2010s classic EGL and rens fair dresses for the theme.

I've given up on getting the server and RAID array that holds my collection working again. Whatever the failing RAID card did as it died seems to have corrupted the drives in the array. The replacement card can't find any data and just wants to re-initialize everything.

It's not mostly dead, it's all dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do, and I've done that. I've pulled the plug for the last time.

BUT... fear not!

We can re-build it. We have the technology.

An all NEW Phantom Friday is on the production line.

Rather than the Frankenstein conglomeration of makeshift parts I had up to now, this Qnap TS-462 NAS with 3 Seagate 18Tb Ironwolf Pro drives (and room for a fourth) will host my collection and all my files no sweat, and do many other things (Plex server, automatic backup and sync, virtual machines and containers, etc etc etc) the likes of which I have only dreamed of.

So, hang in there, be patient while I assemble and configure and learn to run all of this.

The soft thrums of a heartbeat echoed in the background of the groan of machinery. Heavy machines were keeping the facility around them alive, maintaining oxygen, radiation, temperature and humidity levels. The room in which this was most important was a huge circular room with computer servers lining the entirety of the room. It needed to be kept regulated- with how much data those servers contained.

“Deposit beginning.” Voi said plainly, pressing their plunger shaped manipulator arm against one of the semi-sphere shaped control orb for the wall of servers. Behind them were two silver and blue engineers who were keeping a very close eye on what they were doing.

The solid green casing of Voi’s marked them as a scientist- yet what kind of sciences they practiced was for the upper ranks to know about and them alone. After all, genetic materials in kept in such detailed studies via Voi were usually done via the Eternal. It was all delicate information.

“Dalek GN-000, the data you are placing into the facility - is it necessary?” One of the digital-engineers questioned. Voi’s eyestalk turned to look at the both of them.

“Yes.” They confirmed. A stream of information- hundreds of samples taken and studied from a couple of races their kind had… deeply wounded … in the neighboring galaxy.

The neighboring solar systems had already been wiped clean of “sentient” life or life the Daleks believed would one day become sentient. All of which had been documented digitally via this geneticist.

“Yes. All of this information is important.” Voi confirmed again as they turned their attention back to the blank wall in front of them. Their mind again focused on dumping and filing said information… or- well- copies of that information, into the servers.

What was this useful for? What could a race like the Daleks ever need with such a vast collection of genetic information and studies on said information? Warfare. Genetic warfare was made very easy with just one sample of any number of individuals’ DNA. All it took was finding a virus that was also native to said planet or system and VUALLA! You could develop of plague that would wipe out the problematic species for you leaving the planet ripe for the taking within the need to bombard it. Often this type of warfare was used to take planets of interest to the Daleks that they deemed not worth mining. Tropical planets always seemed to be a target for the Daleks. Perhaps a genetic memory from their Kaled predecessors drove them to seek them out.

“Very well then.” The engineers spoke idly and turned to leave the room. The soft swoosh of the doors closing behind them was not what alerted Voi to their new state of being. The drowning noises of the heartbeat around them…

“Alone-“ their eyestalk would shoot up at the realization that the two engineers had left the room. The information they had been dumping was haunted half way as they disconnected from the servers. Na-Voi could not STAND being alone. It… made.. them… feel…

“No no no not alone-“ they hissed backing away and turning to hightail it out of the server room. They made their way as fast as a Dalek could back out into the hallway towards the other two.

When the doors slid out and the green Dalek came skirting out around the corner the two engineers stopped to observe.

“Are… you finished already?” One asked in a concerned way as Voi skidded to a halt in front of them. They were quiet- giving their mind a chance to realize they were no longer alone.

“… Negative…” they said plainly.

I am having A MORNING. my sso was lagging more than yesterday despite it being 1am on the NA server I'm on so I was like ok, graphics driver update maybe. Yep, but something went wrong because files were missing so I have to go reinstall the driver. Not enough disk space to reinstall driver, fantastic I'll just go clear up some disk space. Yeah that takes like half an hour because getting into the folders with my big files (mostly sso videos) takes a couple minutes on its own. Now trying to also transfer all my SSO photos to cloud storage but there's 3500 of them and my laptop is just not loading all of them, much less letting me CTRL+A. Let this be a lesson in not buying 128GB disk space laptops, especially not if they have the weakest fucking processors known to man

I use NICOTINE+, a fork of Soulseek that seems to work well for me.I was amazed when I first installed NIC+, it's a total throwback to Peer to Peer sharing from the late 00s that I thought was dead and gone.

I binned my Spotify sub off several years back when they drove a dump truck of cash up to Joe Rogan's door. I miss the 'For you' playlists they would generate on a Monday & Friday, they were great for finding new artists / music, but you gotta stand by your principles.

Already having a PLEX server running on my NAS for Movies and TV it wasn't much work to make a new Music share and now I can use the PLEXAMP app to play my tunes anywhere without having to do a sync from my PC; if you have a 24/7 uptime machine running, a PLEX server might work well for you (though they are about to roll out changes that mean you'll need a PLEX pass to access files remotely, I bought a lifetime pass on sale several years back and it's more than paid for itself already.)

here's a list of programs/sites/whatever that were helpful to me when i was moving away from using spotify & back to downloading music:

soulseek - peer to peer downloading program, has most music you'd want. there's "rules" to it though and the UI is a little confusing, but you can figure it out. there's tutorials. i believe in you

cobalt.tools, ytiz.xyz, yt-dlp - mp3 downloaders, for the songs that you can't find on soulseek

musicbee - music player, extremely customiseable. reminds me of when i used itunes back in the day. has a lot of good features, including syncing music over to your phone

lastfm & listenbrainz - sites that keep track of your listening stats. i'd recommend this even if you still choose to use a music streaming service

syncedlyrics - cmd thing that gets you timed song lyrics, like the ones spotify has. there's no UI but it's easy enough to use. just grab the lyrics and timestamps it spits out and paste it into musicbee

music presence - program that shows what song you're listening to in your discord status, in case you use discord and enjoy the thought of other people seeing what you're listening to, which i do for some reason
