Giant fights Finn is having trouble with someone across the water. The Scottish giant Benandonner is threatening Ireland. An enraged Finn grabs chunks of the Antrim coast and throws them into the sea. The rock forms a path for Finn to follow and teach Benandonner a lesson. Bad idea – Benandonner is terrifyingly massive. Finn beats a hasty retreat, followed by the giant, only to be saved by our hero’s quick-thinking wife who disguised him as a baby. The angry Scot saw the baby and decided if the child was that big, the daddy must be really huge. This Thursday at 8pm, our next Northern Songs film takes us to @macgeopark and features Fermanagh native @andrewirwin_tenor performing 'Then You'll Remember Me' by Michael William Balfe from 'The Bohemian Girl'. Watch from 8pm on Thursday via the bio link or on our YouTube channel. We had a fantastic day filming both above and underground at the spectacular cave complex: definitely the first time opera has been sung here. The performance you'll hear also features piano accompaniment by @ruthmcginleypianist This new series of Northern Songs has a particular focus on counties Fermanagh, Tyrone and Armagh and the films have been directed by Marty Stalker and produced by @causeway_pictures with drone footage by @conordriscoll1982. All the singers are previous finalists or winners of the Glenarm Festival of Voice: Andrew won the Audience Prize in 2020. @artscouncilni @cameronmenziesdirector @filmproducerni @tourismireland @discoverni @fermanaghomaghdc @uk_caving @cavingireland #ukcaving #opera #operaunderground #Balfe #NorthernSongs #EmbraceAGiantSpirit #fillyourheartwithireland #operalife #operasingersofinstagram #operainacave #fermanagh #visitnorthernireland #northernireland #cavesinireland #cavesinuk #caving #tenor #irishsong #thebohemiangirl (at Marble Arch Caves) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPBkToCBZow/?utm_medium=tumblr

The wild Wilde. Dublin is home to many writers, poets, and performers. It is also home to one of my favorite beers, Guinness. And while there is no correlation there, one must be thankful to Guinness for commissioning this statue of the poet and playwright, Oscar Wilde. My only ever introduction to him was when I had to read his play, ‘Lady Windermere’s Fan’, which was compulsory reading back when I pretended to be studying for my graduation. He lays there on a granite stone on the corner of Merrion Square in Dublin, facing his childhood home just across the street at 1 Merrion Square, without a care in the world. Walk around him and you will notice that he has two distinct facial expressions – a happy one from the left and a sad one from the right. A reflection of the double life he lived, perhaps. It is the work of Danny Osborne, who used his grandson as a model for Oscar’s head, and was unveiled in 1997. _________________________________________ @nofixedaddrs #nofixedaddrs _________________________________________ Fill your heart with Ireland 🇮🇪 #loveireland #fillyourheartwithireland Come here to me Dublin ☘️ #lovedublin #comeheretomedublin #guinness _________________________________________ ………. ……... …….. ……. …… ….. …. … .. . #oscarwilde #oscarwildestatue #oscarwildestatuedublin #oscarwildememorial #dannyosborne #statuesofdublin #irishliterature #irishplaywright #merrionsquare #merrionsquarepark #dublindiaries #instadublin #dubliner #dublinstreets #dublinstagram #dublinstatues #dubliners #ig_dublin #instaireland #ig_ireland #irelanddaily #TalkingStatues #WhenWeTravelAgain #DreamNowTravelLater (at Merrion Square) https://www.instagram.com/p/COXSQy6M9dZ/?igshid=t1f0p23bqvdz

A hike that takes you above the clouds is a hike worth taking. What a spectacular view from the peak of Ireland’s highest mountain, Carrauntoohil, 1,039m above the sea. Who's adding this to their Ireland bucket list? ⛰
#FillYourHeartWithIreland Cheers @ihaveadarksoul for such an inspiring shot.

Legend says that Irish giant Fionn Mac Cumhaill (Finn McCool) created the causeway to travel to Scotland and fight his rival Benandonner, but came back smartish when he saw how big he was. His solution was to dress up as his own “baby” son, and when Benandonner figured out how big his “Da” must be, he ran back ripping up the causeway as he went… Book your Private Tour with Giants Causeway Tours and see the 8th wonder of the world! The prick with the stick. Yup, that's what Ireland's most famous writer is affectionately called. His statue that is. James Joyce may have spent much of his life abroad, but that hasn't stopped the city authorities commissioning a life-size bronze statue in his memory. In fact, his collection of short stories - 'Dubliners' which I struggled with in university, and the influential 'Ulysses' that lay on my bookshelf untouched, are set in this city. Sculpted by US sculptor Marjorie Fitzgibbon, you can say hello to him the next time you are in this lovely city. His statue is near the Spire of Dublin, off O’Connell Street on North Earl Street. ________________________________________ @nofixedaddrs #nofixedaddrs www.nofixedaddress.in _________________________________________ Fill your heart with Ireland 🇮🇪 @tourismireland #loveireland #fillyourheartwithireland Come here to me Dublin ☘️ @visitdublin #lovedublin #comeheretomedublin _________________________________________ ………. ……... …….. ……. …… ….. …. … .. . #dublin #dublinireland #dublinstagram #dublinstatues #irishliterature #ulysses #dublinwriter #irishwriters #jamesjoycestatue #jamesjoyce #Ireland #dubliners #visitdublin #discoverdublin #lovedublin #ig_dublin #instadublin #instaireland #ig_ireland #irelanddaily #irelandtravel #TalkingStatues #statues #WhenWeTravelAgain #DreamNowTravelLater  (at O'connell Street, Dublin City Centre) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFeEBtZs2Gm/?igshid=y07m1oil53hy

New Tourism Ireland Video Showcases Northern Ireland’s Connections with Disney’s ‘Artemis Fowl’
The wonderful scenery of Northern Ireland, mainly the Giant’s Causeway region is set to feature in Eoin Colfer’s fantasy novel series Artemis Fowl which launched on the 12th of June on Disney+.
To celebrate the launch of the fantasy novel series Tourism Ireland worked with Disney to create a short promotional video showcasing Northern Ireland, Dunluce Castle and Whiterocks Beach along Portrush. Showcasing spectacular aerial footage of the Giants Causeway, the Mussenden Temple and the famous Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, viewers of the popular series are in for a treat. The Giants Causeway is a popular stop off for those on a vacation in Ireland and it boasts an area of approximately 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic fissure eruption.
youtube
Tourism Ireland plans to leverage the huge popularity of Artemis Fowl to promote Ireland travel once the travel restrictions relating to COVID19 have eased.
Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “We are extremely grateful to Disney for their generosity in agreeing to make this promotional film with us. The fact that Artemis Fowl was partially shot in Northern Ireland is a fantastic coup for tourism. It will bring the magnificent scenery of the Causeway Coast to the attention of Disney+ viewers all around the world. And, while we may not be able to travel just now, this film will keep the beauty of Northern Ireland to the fore and is sure to inspire people for their future visit.”
Speaking about filming here, director Kenneth Branagh said: “It was always a determination to shoot at least some of the movie there and to particularly give a sense of the scale of Ireland, the beauty of Ireland, the coast, the landscape, the colour of that famous grass. You’ve only got to go to a place like the Giant’s Causeway to believe that fairies exist in Ireland, because somehow that incredible landscape was created. Ireland is an enormously film-friendly country.”
Artemis Fowl features a wide cast from the island of Ireland, including director Kenneth Branagh and screenwriter Conor McPherson, as well as lead actors Ferdia Shaw (Artemis Fowl), Lara McDonnell (Holly Short) and Colin Farrell (Artemis Fowl Sr).
