Hard work and labor. That's all Itura really had fun doing out in the middle of nowhere, where there was plenty to do. She'd be either exploring new caves, expanding anywhere near her house, farming for experience, but she'd mainly gather resources. All sorts of them. It was always a cycle. Mining for resources broke her tools, so she'd make new ones. Making new tools required materials, so she'd go back to finding them, and the cycle continued.
But of course, venturing deeper into new cave trenches required risk. She could be crossing a bridge made of dirt and a skeleton could shoot at her from behind. Or a creeper could suddenly blow up as she was mining ores. Those were a few things that have happened before, but we don't really talk about that...
Right now, Itura was deep in a stalactite cave, leaping from each small pool to the next, avoiding the sharp stone below. She was looking for diamonds. Her netherite was nearly broken, so she had to resort to her backup iron armour. Not the best, but it's kept her safe. A few close calls over some lava or tall heights, but she always carried a water bucket for those situations.
She placed some torches down and killed a few mobs so she could look around for her goal. She'd been in the caves for... she pulls out her clock. About 5 weeks. (Yes, she can be in caves for weeks, being very dedicated). Itura held a torch and shone it around the cave. She had good vision through the night, but even with a lavafall spilling from one side of the cave, she could just barely make out the cerulean shine of a jewel right above her, several blocks up and embedded in the ceiling.
Immediately, Itura started scrambling in her inventory, getting all the blocks she might need to reach the diamonds. She took a stack of deepslate out and started to tower.
One by one, every block hoisting her up to reach her goal. And once she was two blocks below the diamonds, she grabbed her pickaxe. But she couldn't even make a dent in the block, she heard a screech east of the cave. Her head turned to see spiders crawling out of a mob spawner, making their way right to her tower.
She questioned how she didn't notice that when she came into the cave, despite the large quantity of spiders everywhere.
Itura wasn't abandoning diamonds so close to her. She started mining. To her luck, if her life weren't endangered in the moment, there were multiple diamonds buried in the stone. And she was taking all of it.
Just as she made contact with the last diamond, a few spiders had managed to reach her small platform. There wasn't much room to fight, and every second that passed, there would be more spiders. Itura got her sword and shield out, taking defense. But she knew she wasn't going to make it out uninjured. Or, worst case scenario, alive.
She swung at the arthropods, knocking some off, but more came from behind her, snapping at her heels and making her jump. Her armour was breaking. She had to jump. She had to. She put her shield and sheathed her sword so she could dig around in her messy inventory for her water bucket.
Now the spiders were swarming her, pushing her closer and closer to the edge. Itura's focus was everywhere now. But a spider lunged onto her, forcing her to stumble back and fall.
Itura closed her eyes, bracing herself for the impact that was to come. But it didn't. Something grabbed her by the back of her chest plate and a pop rung in her ears before she was dropped onto something soft. Getting up, she groaned, eating some of her bread to heal. Itura opened her eyes, adjusting to the light, like usual every time she came out of mining. Looking around, she was in a field of different colored tulips. She knew this field. She took her armor off and set it down, but immediately, she was grabbed by her wrists and hauled into the air, followed by a deep, angry, and familiar voice. The only other voice she knew other than her own.
"You careless, irresponsible child. WHAT were you THINKING doing that?" Itura was turned to come face to face with DreamXD. A humanoid God with 4 arms, wings, and a white orb head with two lines crossed the middle of their face...ish. Their head was not connected to their neck. They had no facial expressions, but by the tone of their voice, they were seathing.
Itura slowly looked up and (tried) to make eye contact by staring at the intersection on their head. She had to say something, though...
"Uhm.. thanks for saving my life?" Itura said, almost a question. Clearly, by the grip on her wrist, XD was still angry at her.
"Yeah. Again." XD hissed, dropping her on the ground, but grabbing hold of her wings. "I have just about had enough of saving you from peril." They scolded her, his lower hands balling into fists. "You are clearly not careful enough to even consider mining again, Itura."
Itura crossed her arms and kicked the grass. "Oh please, it was that one time you saved me and now." She scoffed, rolling her eyes.
XD growled
"One time? ONE TIME." They yelled, making Itura flinch. XD dropped her wings and stood taller. "You mean to tell me you forgot about the time you tried to jump off a cliff into a two by two pool of water?"
"Well -"
"Or the time you went to kill a warden with nothing but fireworks, eggs and one stack of wool carpets?" They went on.
"I was being resourceful!" Itura snapped back. "The eggs were distractions so I could escape!"
XD tilted his head. "Resourceful, huh?" They asked, crossing both pairs of arms. "Like the time you went to kill an elder guardian with two eight minute water breathing potions?"
The both of them stared at each other for a few moments until Itura spoke. "So? That's plently."
"Yeah, it would be plenty if you hadn't DRANK THEM before FIGHTING THE GUARDIANS!" XD yelled, throwing their hands in the air. Itura felt much smaller now, but she still didn't back down and admit defeat.
She brushed her furred tail over the flowers and grass. "Well, no matter. You were there every time, so I shouldn't be worried."
"Oh so you think exploiting me of my worry for your life means you get to get into danger and get off scott free!" XD yelled, grabbing Itura by her jacket, lifting her in the air. "I should smite you right now to make you value your life more." They hissed, but either way, they dropped Itura and looked down on her while she avoided looking up. "...But that wouldn't solve anything. You need a humane punishment."
Itura felt a shiver crawl down her spine, all the way down her tail. Her mind told her that she was about to get hurt by a God.
So her legs told her to run. So she did, sprinting through the plain. And she heard XD spread their wings and fly toward her. Immediately, that fear motivated her to run faster. She was terrible at fighting, but her speed was great. Nothing compared to DreamXD's, but it was getting her somewhere.
Itura got a good few yards before XD teleported in front of her, their arms extended to reach her, but she ducked and ran left. Again, XD appeared in front of her. This time their second pair of arms down lower to try and catch her, but she reacted quickly and jumped over the god, running once again.
"QUIT RESISTING, ITURA!" XD yelled, flying after her, but having to constantly swerve left and right to try and catch her off guard.
Itura, however, did not give in, and kept running, despite her heart rate telling her to just give up. But she refused to let her fight or flight instincts stop. "I don't think I will!" She countered, ducking down when she heard XD only inches away from her, she looked up to see him flying over her. Itura had to try so hard not to laugh while she stumbled upwards and ran the opposite direction. She clearly heard XD punch the ground while yelling curses.
Itura looked behind her to see if the god was far enough. But in that moment, those few three seconds of one action, a strike of realization hit her. The one thing she shouldn't have done.
Don't. Look. Back.
She didn't even have time to look forward before she was engulfed in a velvety green robe and 4 arms to keep her in place. She opened her eyes, and for the first time she realized that the inside of his robe looked just like the night sky. If Itura ever rarely saw it. But that admiration only lasted seconds before both of her wrists were taken in a large hand, and she was pinned to the ground. XD, looking down at her. And they didn't even need a face to emmit some sort of smug aura from themself. "Gotcha."
Itura looked up at DreamXD with the most pleading eyes a human being could make. Itura herself was pretty small, so pinning her down was easy for XD. One of their hands taking both her wrists and holding them above her head while they straddled her legs with their lower arms. So clearly she wasn't changing the end god's mind.
"W-Wahait, Ehex dehe, I-I don't want to be hurt." Itura bargained. "Look, I'm sorry I ran I just- please, I'm sohorry!"
XD sighed. Their grip loosened, but not enough for her to escape. "I never said I was going to hurt you, Itura." They said, in a calm voice. First time in a while, or in a long time. She didn't remember when XD was calm with her rather than impatient or annoyed.
"You're not... going to hurt me?" Itura asked slowly, just to verify his words.
"No, I'm not." They replied.
Itura glanced around and back up to XD. "Then what are you going to do?" She asked. She knew she should be scared right now, but anticipation was killing her, and she couldn't restrain keeping a few giggles back. Which seemed to be a mistake, as XD hummed, bringing their one free hand up to her side, hovering two claws (or just really sharp, curved nails...) just centimeters away from her side. Itura tried flinching away from them.
"I have a question for you." XD said, tapping her wrist with one thumb to get her to look up, so she did.
Itura really didn't have any other option other than to cooperate. "Y-Yeheah? What ihis it?"
Now she could almost hear a smirk coming from them, and Itura felt like shrinking into the grass. "How ticklish do you think you are?"
Heat rose to her face while her body started to feel numb. If she was completely honest, she really didn't know. Her cat, Perennial would lick her hand or face sometimes, but never actually something serious. She knew of the concept of course, but she didn't think she'd ever actually been tickled before. But he didn't ask if she was. He asked how. XD thought of his question well as to avoid a yes or no answer.
She decided to answer with honesty, hoping that would get her into less trouble. "I-Ihi dohon't really knohow..." She answered. She knew XD was teasing her by keeping their hand by her side, as if he knew the tension would break her.
XD hummed again, as if they were thinking. "How about we do a test for your punishment?" They asked, placing their free hand on the ground next to her side. Less intimidating, but she didn't feel any less relaxed.
"I'll tickle you in different places, and you will rate them for me." XD explains, letting go of my wrists with one of her hands to wave in the air in a circular motion. "And once we are done, you're free. Only one account that you will promise me you will always be prepared for anything, even over prepared. Got it?"
Itura hesitated. She really didn't want to do this. She didn't even know what to expect. On one hand, she was about to go through something she'd never really been through properly.
Buuut on the other hand, she didn't really seem to have any choice or hope of escaping, so she had no other liable options.
"Fine." She says, tensing up. "I'll play your little game. But don't take forever! I've never done this before..."
XD let out an oddly calm but worrying chuckle, bringing one hand up to her neck, making her turn her head to avoid them. "Don't have your hopes up, child. This is a punishment. We will be starting from top to bottom." He says, starting to wiggle his fingers around her neck, making contact with her nerves, sending her into a fit of giggles immediately.
Itura was immediately sent into a few moments of confusion and adjustment. The curved claws on XD's fingers felt weird, but they were very efficient, grazing against every nerve. It took her several moments to adjust to his pattern before she got used to the feeling. She still wanted to squirm, but she still liked the feeling.
Then again, they had barely begun.
"You seem to be enjoying this so far." XD comments, wriggling their thumb into the hollow of her neck, making her scrunch her neck up. "How do you think you'll rate this?"
It took a moment for her to come up with a decision before she finally decided. "Fohohour! F-Fohour!" She laughed lightly.
DreamXD stops, pulling their hand away. They let go of Itura's wrists and moved downwards enough for her to sit up. "Remove your jean jacket."
"Uh, er, ok..." Itura murmered while XD took her wrists again with their upper hands, lifting them above her head while their lower arms positioned them below her arms. Of course, the tension was back. your Jean-jacket." XD instructs.
"Wh-why?" Itura asked, sitting up and taking the chance to stretch her arms and wings. Of course, that was a mistake, letting XD grab both edges of her jacket and taking it off for her, not wanting to take forever answering questions. "So I can access the next spot." They say impatiently, folding the jacket neatly before placing it in the tall grass to the left.
"Uh, er, ok..." Itura murmered while XD took her wrists again with their upper hands, lifting them above her head while their lower arms positioned them below her arms. Of course, the tension was back.
"You sound nervous." XD says with a teasing tone in his voice. That made her feel more nervous than anything.
Itura nodded. "Well, th-this is a very odd scenarioOHOHO, GOHOHOD! WAHAHAIT!" Itura shouted, throwing her head back as soon as XD started tickling her underarms, digging into the shirt-protected (well, barely) hollows.
Now those ticklish sparks were shocks, and she really wanted to lay down and squirm. But XD had a firm grip on her wrists. She tried to tell herself to focus on the rating, by the other side of her was screaming 'ITbut TICKLES, ESCAPE, LAY DOWN, GET OUT OF HERE!' .
"STOHOHOP, EHEX DEHEHE, STOHOHOP!" Itura screamed, wanting to bring her arms down desperately. But XD had a very firm grip on her wrists were firm.
"Not until you give me a raaa~tiing." XD teases in a sing-song voice, sending flustered tingles up her back to her face.
She took a few moments to reply due to trying to come up with a number. "SEHEVEHEN!" She blurts out. "ST-STOHOP!"
They did, bringing their hands down and away from her. XD let go of one of Itura's wrists and conjured up a bottle of water, handing it to her. She hesitantly took it, drinking half of it just in case she would need it later.
The two of them sat there for minutes in silence. XD keeping her in place, and Itura looking at the grass, using her free hand to mess with an oxeye daisy.
"We're just getting started, aren't we?" Itura asks, purposely avoiding XD's unknown vision.
"Mhm." They reply simply. "Which means we should probably get your punishment done and over with." Itura nods, raising her arm willingly. XD takes it and holds it above her. "Are you ready?"
"Y-Yeah, let's just do this." Itura says nervously, pink tinting her face.
DreamXD places their hands on her sides, sending shivers up the dragon hybrid's spine. Itura was tense for several moments, waiting for them to make their move. Eventually, she looked up at XD to see what was wrong. "What are you- NAHAHA- WAHAHAHAHA!"
"Waiting for you to look up~" They tease, digging their fingers into her sides, pressing thumbs into the edges of each side. In that moment, a 1-10 rating would have seemed like an understatement. And the scream that tore from her felt like it ruined her voice. Itura's nerves were set on fire.
Itura tried to lean left and right, but every time she tried to avoid one hand, she'd just press herself closer to the other. No escape, and XD seemed to be enjoying themselves. Itura, however, was not.
"EHEHEHEX DEHEHE, STAHAHA- AHAHAHA! IHIHIT'S TOHOHOO MUHUHU- HAHAHA!" Itura screamed, tossing her head back when XD started spidering up her right, making things all the worse. She could feel tears threatening the corners of her eyes.
The End god let out a chuckle, but Itura couldn't hear over her own booming laughter. "I think we found your bad spot." They say, raising their voice a bit so she could hear him. "Care to give me a rating?"
It should have been easy to say a number. But the only words her mind could comprehend were 'IT TICKLES' on repeat.
She hated this.
"TWEHEHEHELVE! IHIHIT'S SOHOHO BAHAHAHAD!" Itura said after what seemed to be hours, when it was merely just a minute of desperate laughter and screaming.
XD shakes their head, continuing to knead into the soft, very sensitive nerves. "Twelve isn't an option, Child." They say, tilting their head to look at the scene in their hold. "A number one through ten, very simple."
At XD's impatience, Itura eventually shouted ten through whatever voice she had left, and XD finally stopped.
The moment they took their hands away from her sides, she had never felt so much relief wash over her at once, gasping for air and giggles pouring out of her. XD let go of her wrists, seeing as it was safe to let her go. It was, and all Itura did was curl into a fetal position to wrap her wings around her.
"Y-Yohohuhu ahare teheherrihible..." Itura says, refusing to look directly up at them.
DreamXD sighs, tapping the ground. "This is a punishment." They say, reaching out to pet one of the hybrid's fluffy wings. She tensed up for a second before relaxing, trusting him. "We're only halfway through, too. Do you need a bit more time, or shall we get this over with?"
Itura wanted to take some more time. She wanted to just lay down forever and wish the spiders had gotten to her. But they didn't, and she didn't know how to fight, but God damn it, she wasn't going to be weak to something as childish as tickling.
Itura sits up, bringing her wings behind her, raising her arms up, and her head down. "Juhust do whahat yohou need to do."
"You're going to have to lay down for this next bit." XD says, motioning their hands to the soft grass cleared of flowers. Of course, Itura obliged, laying down and spreading her wings, sprawling over the grass. The blades tickled her back just the slightest, but not enough to conjure any sort of vocal response. The smaller hybrid looked at the sky, DreamXD's head just barely visible under her peripheral vision.
Obviously, that strengthened the anticipation, making their next actions unpredictable to Itura. Only seconds later, she felt one hand grab hers and hold it above her head. Two needle-ended pegs straddled hers so she'd be unable to kick in any way.
Sh*t.
"You seem excited there." XD teases, both lower hands placed on the ground and tilting their head.
Ugh, that stupid voice and head tilt, Itura cursed. It really did get to her, despite it making her blush nervously. She had a feeling that was the point.
She heard XD chuckle. "Very well then." They said, and within seconds, Itura felt nails tracing around the middle of her stomach. She shrieked and fell into loud laughter again. Every so often, XD would press their index finger into the soft area, making her jump. Her free hand kept trying to grab XD's wrist.
"You seem to have an exceptionally sensitive lower torso." XD observed out loud, taking another hand and snatching her hand so they could hold it above her head. They decided to start a one-sided conversation. "I have a brother with a very ticklish belly. Much more ticklish than you are."
"AHAHA- IHIHI DOHOHON'T CAHARE!" Itura laughed, batting her wings uselessly against the god. It didn't phase them in the slightest, and they continued talking as if she never said anything.
"He, my brother, has an exceptionally ticklish belly-button. Whenever I'd tickle him, I'd trace one finger juuust around the edge here." They said, slipping their hand under the fluffy dragon's thin undershirt, starting to trace around her belly button as an example. Itura's laughter died down a lot, reducing only to giggling.
DreamXD hummed, sounding a bit disappointed. "Seems for you it's the opposite." They say blankly. "Ready to rank now?" They ask, going back to just pressing their fingers into the outer sides of her belly.
Itura didn't hesitate to answer. "EHEHEIGHT- OHOHOR NIHIHINE!" She laughed, trying to suck her stomach in, but clearly it was useless.
"I need one number." XD said impatiently.
"FIHINE! NIHIHINE!" Itura said as her final answer. XD stopped, letting her go. Itura sat up and covered her belly with her wings, rubbing away the ghostly fingers. "Ahare we dohone now?" She asked, hoping it was.
"No." XD said, handing Itura the half drank water bottle. Itura took it gladly and drank it until it was empty. "But we're almost done."
Itura let out a growl, looking away from XD and at a nearby birch forest off to the distance. "I get the point you're trying to make, XD." She said, tapping her tail on the ground. "I promise, I'll be more careful."
XD nodded. "I know you will." They said, uprooting a rose and looking at it carefully as if taking in every detail. "But it would be wrong of me not to finish what I've started. Both you and I need to take responsibility in this."
"Ehhh, fine. I guess you're right." Itura said, laying down on her back. "But I'm starting to get exhausted. Can we just do one more spot?" She asked, looking back up at XD, who had replanted the rose and was looking at her with a tilted head. Her cheeks flushed pink. Totally n-not because I want you to tickle me, just- ugh, you know!"
She heard XD chuckle, which intimated her. "Alright, one more spot." XD said, crossing their legs and patting the area in front of them, signaling Itura to come closer. Hesitantly, she did, sitting there with her knees to her chest.
"Give me one of your ankles." DreamXD instructed, holding one hand out. Itura was slightly confused, but she did, stretching one leg out for XD. Itura was always bearfoot. Mainly because she didn't like the feeling of boots on her feet, which were mainly just paws. Her lower legs were part of her hybrid body, being mostly white fur. There was an odd ankle placement, but XD seemed to have no trouble finding it and keeping a firm grip. Itura laid back slightly.
"You have pawpads." They said, taking a finger and gently pressing into the middle toe pad. Itura squealed, starting to immediately laugh. She could tell XD was just teasing.
She sorta-maybe should have not said that, because XD let out a huff and a muttered 'very well' and started to start scratching at the soft pads.
Now Itura was thrashing, a lightning bolt setting her nerves into shock. It sent her to past the line of just laughter. She was screaming, trying to roll onto her stomach but only managing to her sides. She couldn't even kick.
"My, this is just barely as bad as your sides, hm?" XD says a bit too casually, but Itura could just barely hear him through her ecstatic laughter. "You think this is just as bad as them? Maybe even more?"
"MOHOHO- AHAHA- MOHOHOHOHORE!" She shouts, flapping her wings against the ground, sending grass blades flying. "EHEHEX DEHEHE, PLEHEHAHAHAHA!"
DreamXD didn't let her finish, starting to switch things up by dragging a claw on their index finger down the middle of her foot, all the ay down the arch and back up again.
"Please, what?" XD asks, pretending to be oblivious. "You need to be clearer."
"DAHAHAMN IHIHIT, STAHAHAHAHAP!" Itura managed to squeeze out in between her escalated shouting.
However, XD didn't stop, though. They just continued their ruthless attack. "You must've forgotten that I need a rating."
Itura cursed at the god through whatever little thoughts she had left and gave them the answer they wanted. "TEHEHEN. TEHEHEHEN, NOHOHOW STOHOHOP!
Finally, after what felt like ages, XD lifted their hands away from her paws, letting her ankles go. Itura pulls her legs to her chest and scoots away from XD as they sit down cross-legged. Itura was hiding her giggling in her fluffed wings, which definitely needed brushed when she got home.
"Need help getting home?" XD offers.
She shook her head. "Noho, but thank yohou anywahays."
XD stands up and starts to float. "Then I hope you understand your punishment and learn from this experience. I'll be off the-"
"Wait!" Itura says, standing up quickly. She had recovered fast. "You said you weren't really done testing all areas, sooo.. I was wondering if you would want to finish some time whenever I give myself a free day?"
XD looks down at her. "You say that as if I was your friend." They say, crossing their upper arms.
Itura shifts her wings uncomfortably. "Well... aren't we friends?" She asked, confused. Her tail wrapped around her ankles. "I consider you one."
"Well, that's a shame because I'm not your friend." They said, half snapping at her. "What we did was discipline, not a fun activity. Goodbye." They say, teleporting away before Itura could say bye.
Itura stood there, distraught. She felt alone again. Usually, that would never be a problem for her. She enjoyed being alone. But what XD said without any hesitation, it hurt her. The sun starts to set in the west. Itura tries not to let that affect her as she puts her armor on and taking her sword out. She starts to see mobs coming out of caves and forests and starts to follow a compass home.
(Ahhhh finally this is done. I'd like to thank Covenwives, Fluffallama and soft dragon for combining my 3 favorite things into one and inspiring me to write these kinds of fanfics.)
If there's anything I can improve on or if it's not acceptable in the community to insert an oc, please comment. I will stop using Itura if people would accept it that way. I just love receiving comments and my asks are always open.

Minecraft headcanons no one asked for
a/n: olcvfgmlkfm this hit me so randomly i dont even know. enjoy!! under the cut due to length!
★ Characters: Rin, Yukio, Mephisto, Amaimon.
★ Words: 1,6k.
Rin:
Tumblr media
this sweetheart loves playing with you whenever you ask him to! it relaxes him a lot, plus just having fun with you is making him really happy.
he stays somewhere near you, ALWAYS. he’s way too embarrassed to admit he’s scared (same Rin, same), so whenever he yelps or jumps on his bed because he heard a zombie growl, you can laugh as much as you want, but don’t be surprised if he shoots a glare at you and pouts.
he’ll bring you whatever you want. wood? fine. iron? no problem, he’s already on his way to find a cave (even if he’s afraid of caves.. he’ll do it for you).
he’s not very good at building, so usually he leaves it to you, and it doesn’t really matter whether you live in a “house” made out of dirt or a full ass mansion; no matter what your building skills are, he’s gonna praise you anyway.
sucks at parkour. DON’T ask him to play a parkour map, he’s gonna whine and barely make one jump.
speaking about bad jumping, he’s really clumsy and somehow always ends up with the highest death streak. for example, he’s sprinting to kill a pig, but somehow doesn’t notice a fucking lava pool below him and jumps right into it. accidentally hits a zombie piglin (or pigman, depends on what version you play on) and he’s dead.
HOWEVER, he’s the guy who gets really lucky. do you remember/have a person/friend that always manages to get diamonds first? yep, it’s him. gets the best enchants. both on books and tools or armor. he also gets the ender dragon kill first too.
he won’t play without optifine and texture pack other than the default one. he hates it. his fave is faithful and if it doesn’t work, he’s constantly commenting on how the default one is hurting his eyes.
he will NOT survive listening to both disc “11″ and “13″ he hates it. don’t play it unless you want him to cry.
hasn’t played alpha nor beta versions, but he likes watching vids of it! he gets very nostalgic, which honestly bewilders him because he started playing way after beta. sometimes you can catch him listening to the old soundtrack all teared up, or falling asleep to it.
LOVES GREEN PARROTS. one of them is named after you.
MAY I INFORM YOU, HE DOES PLACE HIS BED TOGETHER WITH YOURS.
Yukio:
Tumblr media
unlike rin, he’s always complaining about you asking him to play, but he’s obviously gonna do it (because he loves u,, even if he says he doesn’t). it also relaxes him, but mostly, he likes it because he’s able to get his mind off of “adult things” and finally get some rest.
wooo, he’s the brave one. he isn’t afraid of zombie gurgles or anything like that, so he’s always going to caves first (and gets lost because he’s literally going deeper and deeper FDMKFMV). however, there’s one thing that always startles him... cave sounds. he doesn’t scream, but if you’re near him, you can sometimes witness his character spinning or jerking his head in another direction because of it vcxkvnjhbv
don’t, i repeat, dON’T make fun of him afterward. he’s gonna go all the way back to you and kill you (and then go back mining.. like nothing happened).
the perfectionist. always mines all the resources he sees; during building something he also always makes sure everything’s proportional. gladly counts blocks for you, if your brain can’t work anymore.
now, building! not very skilled with building houses, but he likes building simple decorations, like fountains, gardens or farms. despite him always claiming it’s bad, his work always looks very detailed. not very good with ideas of those things at first, so mainly at the beginning he always finds some inspirations on the internet, but later gets the hang of it and builds his own ideas!
his favorite place to have a house in is somewhere near the ocean.
likes default textures. too used to have anything else.
doesn’t like listening to in-game music, unless it’s something from beta or alpha versions (like “Haggstorm” or “Wet Hands”). Usually listening to his own favorite songs on Spotify.
His favorite disc is “Far”. It used to be “Cat”, but due to him obtaining it like 3000 times he stopped liking it. nor hearing it anywhere near.
when he goes out to get resources and/or food, he comes back with full inventory and shulkers, just like a father that’s about to feed his kids. minimum 10 stacks of iron, coal blocks and food. the nearest 10k chunks of caves is already explored, so you better be ready for a long, lONG WALK to get something new.
he’s also fond of beta versions, but rarely plays them without you.
Mephisto:
Tumblr media
this motherfucker wants to literally speedrun every fucking game. meanwhile you’re busy making a wooden pick, he’s out there typing “can’t wait to beat the dragon and get elytras~! ★”
remembers literally every recipe for all items and alchemy. personal minecraft wikipedia right there.
he MUST have a fucking mansion, otherwise, he isn’t playing. fortunately, he’s tried building before, so he’s perfectly capable of building one himself. it’s all made out of pink wool and concrete, along with white concrete accents here and there.
adding to the previous one, he also has a great decorating sense. the rooms look very good, space is filled nicely and is both pretty and practical. the mansion itself looks very good on outside and inside.
of course, the main bedroom that’s designed especially for you two looks WAY TOO GOOD. I'm not even gonna start on him messing with plugins and making it even prettier.
his skin is a random, pink anime girl.
master with redstone. everything’s automated, there also might be hidden rooms with surprises. there’s a hidden shrine dedicated for you. he hasn’t told you about that though... >_>
even though he gets many useful things from the swamp biome, like lily pads or that cyan flowers, he hates this biome with a burning passion. if he sees it anywhere near his render distance he’s spasming and immediately voicing his annoyance. hates that specific, “dirty and unsightly green water and grass color.
he doesn’t do much mining, but happily goes with you if you ask him to. even if he has no armor on, he never dies. NEVER. there might be 6 creepers but he somehow survives their explosion.
not scared at all. he knows this game like the back of his hand. he might, however, attempt to scare YOU instead. on purpose. or accidentally hit you so you fall from a large height and die. if you get upset at him afterward, he’s gonna give you even better stuff you’ve had before.
HE LOVES PLAYING ALPHA AND BETA. he started to play probably around very early alpha, so coming back to such simpler times is making him somewhat nostalgic (even if he denies it). on those versions, he builds things that used to be popular back in the day, like simple towers of cobblestone or houses inside mountains. it hits him hard when old soundtrack plays.
Amaimon:
Tumblr media
he’s very, very confused. first off, he’s not used to the game at all, but then, he googles almost any recipe or asks you thousands of questions about how to make things. after some time, he finally figures out that there’s a book with recipes in game.
he might steal your items, but usually, he gives you back better items. for example, you notice your iron pickaxe is missing, but suddenly he sprints into the house and throws at you diamonds.
oh, he’s aware of the existence of chests, but for some reason, he likes throwing various items at you. he runs off afterward, leaving you with everything on the ground.
don’t introduce him to bedrock edition, he hates playing minecraft with a gamepad, and will smash it immediately. java edition is the only help for this man.
he’s also clumsy, like Rin. he manages to do that less than him somehow, but he tends to die pretty often anyway. his deaths are the stupidest, sometimes he doesn’t even bother explaining it. he literally can die with gravel suffocating him.
once he goes to the nether, he doesn’t wanna go back to the overworld. he says something along the lines of it being similar to gehenna or whatever, but. no matter what version it is - pre- or post- update 1.16, he likes it and that’s it.
his favorite biome in the overworld is jungle - mostly because of the lively color of grass, but also tall trees. he likes having there treehouses and always asks if you can build one (because he sucks at building. even worse than Rin >_>). his fave in the nether is blue forest or basalt biome - however, he becomes mad quickly on the second one due to frequent gaps filled with lava and magma cubes.
he likes normal slimes though. he even has a pet slime!! QwQ
he named his pet slime after Behemoth. keeps it safe in a glass cube and checks on it regularly. Behemoth doesn’t know about it doe.
he bullies every single villager that’s within his sight. burns their homes. the only thing that survives is the iron golem because he thinks it’s cool.
plays with the basic Steve skin. partially because he doesn’t know how to change it and that he isn’t determined enough to look for any.
forgets that crouching exist and falls off almost every cliff or anything that’s considered high.

Well, I realized that the hermits I had left fit into a rainbow so now I’m doing that. Red, orange, yellow, lime, green, and brown as a treat.
au by @hermitcraftheadcanons and tagging @helleborusangel as always because 💖!
Welsknight jumped to another crimson tree, clinging to what was there instead of leaves. Any time he felt like he was about to fall, he was given a push in the right direction by the hoglins below waiting for him to fall. As if he hadn’t already fallen plenty.
He really needed to take the wart blocks he was tearing up and make himself a safe path. But the nether wasn’t really safe enough for him to get a chance to do that. At the very least he had a full set of wood tools in a chest. Said chest was still further ahead, but it was also the safest area he had right now.
Wels heard the familiar sound of a ghast crying out trying to find him. He immediately tore up some of the wart blocks from the tree he was on to give himself some cover. As he waited for the ghast to fly away, he worked at some of the hyphae. The knight made sure not to get too close to the ground in case a hoglin tried to knock him off. Getting back up involved turning some of the stem into planks to tower back up to the treetops, but he still had plenty of wood for crafting anything he would need.
Once he got things set up, he would start scouting out for a fortress or deltas to get better gear. He was also thinking of setting up an area to attack Ziglins from to get some gold nuggets so he could eventually trade with piglins for some desperately needed gear. But for now, all he had were the trees or giant mushrooms or whatever these were.

Cub whacked away another stray cave spider that found him. It had been, what, four days at this point? And he still hadn’t found this second spawner in this mesa. It also didn’t help that he was starting to hear things. It was just little whispers, quiet enough he couldn’t tell what was being said, but just the fact that they existed, or at least theoretically existed was enough to put him on edge.
He munched on a bit of beef he had gotten from some cows roaming just outside the mineshaft exits. Compared to how bad it looked like some of the other Hermits had it, Cub was doing well. Sure, his health was low due to the spiders attacking him, but he hadn’t gotten too badly poisoned. Then he had a good amount of food and the cobwebs gave him plenty of string for beds, which was thankfully able to let him change his main spawn.
It was getting closer and closer to the point Cub was thinking about trying to head towards what he hoped would be spawn. For all he knew, absolutely no one was actually at spawn and when he finally reached there, there would be nothing. That being said, if there was absolutely no one there, he could start setting up. He had full iron gear, a number of diamonds, plenty of food and other supplies, and of course, lots of wool for beds.
Cub killed another spider before it could bite him, but wondered if that was really the best idea. No matter what happened, he couldn’t manage to heal himself at all unless it was through respawning.Theoretically he could start towards spawn at three and a half hearts, but it wasn’t really the wisest decision. So for now, he would just prep as much as he could before he respawned again.

XB fanned himself with a hand. Even underground in the cave it was still pretty hot from the desert outside. He could theoretically go further down, but his resources were severely limited due to having no wood. XB had a little luck with getting creepers to explode near coal, so he at the very least had torches, but it wasn’t very many. There was also the fact that every time he died, he ended up back in the middle of the desert and had to trek back to the cave.
A few respawns here and there, XB had considered trying to escape the desert and find a slightly better biome, one with trees or wood or something to help him. But most of them ended up with him dying before he could even spot the edge of a biome, so his one cave of safety was the best he had right now.
Still, even then, there were a few times XB faced the hot sand, and not to find an escape for himself. In one of his attempts to escape, he had come across someone else. At first, he had some sort of hope that he had been found and might get a way out. But that changed when he watched the person collapse. XB ran over to the other person and recognized Iskall through the sand that clung to their body from sweat. Neither of them had anything currently on their person, so all they could do was stay by the other until one of them, likely Iskall, died of dehydration.
XB was able to tell Iskall that he had a cave for them to stay in if they could make it back in this direction and go a bit further. Iskall nodded and asked if XB had made the tower of sand, to which the answer was no. XB took out his comm to check the death messages and see if anyone else was dealing with dehydration deaths. Scrolling up, he couldn’t spot any, but if he hadn’t made that tower and Iskall hadn’t, there had to be someone who made it.

Hypno continued to follow a bee that had been pollinating flowers around him. For being stuck in a lush, green, flower forest, there weren’t really many trees around. But he knew that bees went to nests, and nests were connected to trees. At this point, he just needed to find one. He could get a sapling from the leaves and grow more and then he would be set. Well, he would need to find his way back to his spawn again, since his comm wasn’t giving him any sort of coordinates. Though, that was probably because it was filled with pollen, and every time he shook it even a little, yellow powder would come out of it.
He looked back to the bee and was glad it hadn’t flown too far out of his sight. There was just one tiny problem. It didn’t have any pollen on it anymore. Hypno looked around, hoping to see a nest and tree nearby, but there was nothing. Just flowers, flowers, moving flowers and more flowers. Wait, moving flowers?
Hypno snapped his head back to look at the moving flowers. They looked to be just on the other side of a hill and weren’t swaying in the breeze or anything, but actually moving like they were walking along. He started walking toward the flowers, climbing up the hill, and then he stopped. The flowers were on the back of a cow that should not have been there. He knew that mooblooms weren’t really supposed to be around yet. Something about the gods waiting or something. But no, here it was, right in front of him.
Hypno didn’t have a sword or even a stick, but he didn’t really have many options for food, so he rushed towards the animal to get some sort of actual food other than just chewing on dandelions when he was desperate. Besides, if there was one cow, there would probably be more, so he wasn’t too upset about getting one of them killed.
Before Hypno fully reached the cow, he watched as it noticed him and stopped moving, almost like it was curious about what he was doing. It made him feel just a little regretful about what he was going to do, but right now, survival was more important than guilt. He heard the cow give a moo, and he was ready to hear if any others responded. After a moment, there was a single moo in reply, but it was much younger and right in front of him. And then Hypno realized he was about to run into a calf.

Cleo kicked the door of the house she had been trapped in. It was a bit therapeutic, but it didn’t really help her frustration, especially since she could easily look out the door and see the iron golem staring her down. So what if she were green from being a zombie? She wasn’t going to go around killing villagers all willy nilly.
At the very least, she got very lucky with the house she claimed as it had a chest, crafting bench and bed all in one, so she had basic resources. But she also had an emerald from the chest which the villagers were very upset that she had ‘stolen’. Cleo tried to explain that they could have it back, but none of them really wanted to listen to a zombie. Especially not one living in their village.
So Cleo kicked at the door again, this time along with a punch. It felt right and therapeutic in a sense. Maybe it was a zombie thing, they were always breaking doors. But that made Cleo pause. If she really wanted to get the village to trust her, breaking down a door was not the way to do that.
Looking out the window, it looked like the sun was setting. Soon would be the sweet spot where she could get out of the house and grab supplies while the villagers were all inside and it wasn’t quite dark enough for things to be spawning. The iron golem also went on patrol at that time, so he wasn’t at her one exit blocking her off. Once she had enough wood for ladders and a pickaxe, she’d start digging down to make herself a mine and a way out of the place, but for now, it was just sneaking in and out through the front door.

Beef’s gathering up more dirt. He and Joe have found a few more areas which could be patched up. Normally they wouldn’t be too concerned with keeping things neat and completely safe, but with the current situation everyone was in, safety was a big priority. Joe was likely working on more tree farming or gathering stone, then the two of them would meet back up as the sun was setting.
Spawn had been lit up pretty well, so nothing was spawning much nearby. Because of that, the two of them worked on building places for people to stay, some sorted storage to help people get gear, and finally near the end of the night they would take a nap so that phantoms would stay away the following night. Technically they could skip a night here or there, but making it a habit was a better thing to do.
He tries not to get distracted by the death messages in chat, but it’s a little hard. Ever since Etho died and didn’t show up again, Beef had been on edge, worried about him and Joe dying and suddenly being elsewhere. For all he knew, the three of them were supposed to be spawning elsewhere from this mess, but they had shown up before whatever was causing this activated and their deaths would change that.
And speaking of that, he glanced as his comm buzzed with another message. He looked, expecting it to be a death from Impulse, TFCl or Xisuma, who were having frequent deaths, but instead his heart sank when he saw Joe’s name.
Beef immediately stopped digging, leaving some dirt behind as he ran back to spawn. He needed to know if Joe was really gone too. And if he was, Beef needed to come up with a new plan for setting things up. But he really really hoped that maybe, somehow, Joe was still there.
As spawn came into view, Beef scanned the landscape for Joe. Every second he didn’t see the hermit, he lost more hope, but then finally he spotted movement. “Oh Joe, thank void you’re okay.”
“Yeah, thought I was gonna be in a heap of trouble for a couple of seconds there, but looks like I just respawned in bed. I’m sure as long as we got our beds in a nice safe place, we don’t need to worry too much about dying and ending up somewhere else.”
“That’s a relief. Going to collect what you dropped?” Beef asked, and Joe nodded.
“Yeah. And I think tonight we might want to move our beds a bit.”
Beef tilted his head slightly. “Why’s that.”
Joe didn’t answer immediately, just staring towards exact zero zero. “Just got a feelin’ about it. Like it’s a disaster waitin’ to happen. I know it’s not much to go on, but-”
Beef just stops Joe. “No, a feeling like that is fine. Right now we really need to listen to little feelings like that with everything going on.”
Joe nods and then heads off to gather the supplies he dropped. Beef stores his dirt in some chests and then grabs his bed, moving it to a different building before tucking himself in and making sure he’s linked to it for respawning. When Joe gets back, he can do the same, and then they can get to building now that the sun is setting.

Prompt 9 - Friable - The Gathering Storm
E’tateke waited among the countless other gatherers of The Mendicant’s Court, hatchet nervously gripped in her hand as she eyed her competition. She had missed the last calling by the mission commander, she thought, and though it was all for a good cause she could feel her competitive side growl in anticipation as she recognized the faces of some dear rivals among the crowd. Her grip upon the handle of her tool tightened further as she watched Aurvael’s familiar face walk to the booth, a bundled roll of what she presumed to be the new flight coordinates in hand. This seemed to grab the attention of the crowd as the rabbled sounds of the court grew silent in respect of the man. Aurvael looked upon the crowd with a measured nervousness as he cleared his throat, addressing them. “May I have your attention, everyone? I have just received word of a new series of islands that have appeared in the Diadem. We will be embarking shortly if any among you wish to joi-“
No sooner did the words come from his mouth than the crowd spilled out from the front of the booth like a wave, miners and botanists and fishers alike all rushing like a stampede for the airship landing. E’tateke ran among them, her tail narrowly avoiding the fury of the feet behind her as she tried to weave in and out of the crowd to make it on the first ship out. She was certain that she could feel the squishy forms of some unfortunate Lalafell under her feet as she ran, hoping that the recently built Ser Vaindreau’s Grace could accommodate the poor souls once the chaos cleared. E’tateke soon found herself nearing the head of the crowd, and as she ran down the stone steps to the airship landing she saw that the first ship was already beginning to fill to capacity. The Miqo’te pulled out the handle of her scythe and used it to trip a few in front of her, gaining the necessary advantage to land herself one of the final places on the airship as its crew looked out with sweaty horror. As the ship began to take off, a lone and impatient Roegadyn thought to leap up on deck of the moving vehicle, only to find his chest firmly bounced off the work boots of no less than three miners on board.
E’tateke breathed a sigh of relief as the ship departed in earnest for the Diadem. As the sights of Ishgard disappeared underneath the winter filled clouds, the Miqo’te wondered to herself whether it was such a good idea for the Firmament to develop a ranking system for its contributors. Adventurers were a competitive bunch after all, she thought, and surely the damage to the Diadem’s ecology—as unnatural as it likely was—wasn’t worth the building of a few extra structures in the city. She shrugged in response to her inner reason as she recalled the number of wonderful mounts and Ironworks outfits that she would soon be able to afford with the results of her gathering frenzy, not to mention the admiration of her peers. The clouds grew lighter as the ship traveled far above the upper reaches of Abalathia’s Spine, the islands now in view to only the longest necked Elezen among the ship. E’tateke pulled out a pair of binoculars she kept on hand and surveyed the islands as they gradually approached: they seemed almost peaceful, though they wouldn’t be for much longer, and thankfully it truly did appear that they were the first to arrive. The Lalafells onboard jumped and giggled with joy as the Viera tied their ears back to avoid the harsh winds, each gatherer in attendance readying their tools and tinctures for the frenzy ahead. E’tateke waited for the ship to get a little closer to one of the islands before leaping off the deck of the airship, the concerned yells of the Skysteel engineers disappearing in the whipping winds as she landed upon the uneven rock with feline grace. With hatchet in hand she ran up to the nearest tree she could find: a pathetically petrified lump of wood jutting out of the unnatural rocky ground beneath her. E’tateke channeled her inner adventurer spirit and slammed her axe into the base of the trunk, breaking through the limits of her power—and no doubt a few codes of botanist etiquette that Fufucha would disapprove of—to fell the tree in a single blow. The trunk exploded into a cascade of lumber and crystals that E’tateke scooped into her bag with the intensity of an all-you-can-eat buffet at the gold saucer.
The hunt was upon the Diadem now, and E’tateke knew the islands would only withstand the fury of their gathering for a short time. She pulled her hatchet back into her hands as she ran to the next target in her sights, a bush of questionable growth given the inhospitable conditions of the island. She imagined it to be an imperial commander as she hacked at it furiously, some small wildlife fleeing from it as she collected its trimmings. Seeing no other foliage on the island, she thrust herself into a nearby dervish of wind and flew upon the air to a much larger land formation in the distance. She was not alone on this one, she could see, as a Hrothgar botanist was hard at work felling the largest tree on the island. E’tateke knew the materials of such a tree would be vital for her to regain her position after missing the previous voyage, and as she weighed her options she spotted a series of fishers just sitting down to begin their boring task. “Anything good enough to catch a pterodactyl should be good enough to pull a tree.”, E’tateke thought as she grabbed the rod from an Elezen’s hands. The Miqo’te ignored the cursing of its owner as she waited for the Hrothgar to bring the tree to its felling point, casting the line high upon its branches and tugging hard. The tree, much to E’tateke’s excitement, changed course and fell promptly upon the foolish botanist who noticed its diverted path all too late. As she made a mad grab and dash for the resources off the dazed Hrothgar’s body, she left him with a word of advice. “Maybe wear a helmet next time, amateur.”
E’tateke cleared the island while her would-be competitor napped off the head injury, promptly making her way to the next set of stony landmasses before her. The miners were out in full force in this part of the Diadem, it seemed, as she was greeted with the rhythmic swings of pickaxes and hammers against stone. As the Miqo’te relieved the area of any local flora, she overheard the chatting of two Roegadyn pounding away at a vein of ore. “You ever feel like we’re just going ‘round in circles, Blynkrepf?” His gruff companion responded, unamused. “We are, you bleedin’ idiot. If you put that brainpower into those swings of yers we’d be done already.” E’tateke snickered to herself as she threw out a full pizza from her knapsack to make room for some more materials, moving on. Eventually, E’tateke arrived to an island that seemed suspiciously devoid of gatherers. “It’s quiet…too quiet.” She thought to herself, making her way over to a series of bushes. As the Miqo’te prepped her first swing, the barrel end of an Aetheromatic Auger pushed itself out from the center of the bush and pointed itself in her direction. E’tateke stepped back as she watched a gang of ruthless Lalafell make their way out of the bushes and surround her, two of them carrying no less than ten dozen small frogs in their tiny arms each. “Hand over the frogs, miss. It’d be a shame if your contributions were cut short by a trip to the infirmary ‘n Ishgard.” E’tateke knew the type of tremendous danger the compressed aether of the Augur possessed, and so she begrudgingly relinquished control of her share of the amphibious creatures. The Lalafells took each and every one of the frogs from her knapsack before slinking back into the hidden depths of the bushes once more, a sign that the Miqo’te was free to leave and gather once more. E’tateke let out an exasperated sigh as she vowed to never let anyone back home know what had just occurred. She knew that she would need to stay focused to make up for the loss in resources, and so she recomposed herself and set out for the next few islands, avoiding other gatherers as much as possible as she uprooted and sliced through the fragile foliage for what resources remained.
It near the end of her second pass through of the islands when she felt the telltale rumbling of the rocky ground beneath her signal the end of the voyage. With every fiber of natural life pulled from the stone and every valuable ore peeled from its veins the islands were beginning to lose structural integrity. E’tateke knew the islands would remain steady for precious little time, their underbellies of crystalized aether being tapped to empty in a futile attempt to replenish the life and materials relinquished from their bodies. The Miqo’te hurried towards the neutral ground of The Bounty, other gatherers already making their way worriedly ahead of her. She soon found herself stopped, however, as a crowd formed around a particularly menacing looking Au Ra man. “If you want to use this wind current to get to The Bounty you’ll need to pay a toll!” The man grinned, his arms firmly folded into his sides. As the island they all stood upon began to shake violently and pull itself apart, the gatherers in front of E’tateke began to hand over their hard earned goods for passage. “This is ridiculous. There’s no way the whole crowd will make it through in time.” She thought, pushing her way to the front of the crowd. E’tateke made her way to the Au Ra and promptly shoved him into the current, the man yelling as he spun uncontrollably on his back up into the air before falling out of view into the sky below. The crowd watched in shock, their eyes turning to E’tateke who looked back to them. “What? I’m sure he’ll call a mount before he lands…” The Miqo’te decided to step into the wind current quite promptly, lest the crowd get any ideas of making her test her theory.
As she made her way on to the landmass that made up The Bounty, E’tateke was incredibly relieved to see the Airship in sight. The Miqo’te secured her knapsack and stepped on to the creaking wooden deck of the ship, cleaning off her tools as the crowd from before began to make their way onboard. If any one of them intended on reporting her actions, they certainly did not make it known as they began to take stock of their gathered materials. E’tateke took inventory as the ship filled to its capacity: she had enough trees to relocate the Gridanians, enough raspberries to bake a pie the size of Dalamud, and enough wheat to construct a two hundred floor Palace-of-the-Bread. She finished counting her things just as the ship began its ascent back into the skies above, and as she watched the now-ruined islands of the Diadem begin to fully crumble and fade she noticed an amusing sight: the Lalafell gang who had previously held her at Augur-point had not made their way to the ship in time. E’tateke watched as they tripped upon the shriveling rocks of their faltering island, frogs flying everywhere as they quickly fell with the ejected mass of stone from the skies itself. “Hah. Someone’s going to have to clean up those mashed popotoes.” E’tateke thought, leaning back and feeling the gentle breeze of the wind on her ears. As the airship disappeared into the clouds once more, she wondered what she should buy first with the scripts she would earn from her efforts upon her return.

How to play: a general overview of Fortnite Battle Royale
If you’ve never played or watched a game of Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode, here’s what you need to know. Fortnite Battle Royale is a free-to-play PvP third-person shooter game mode which began as a spin-off of Fortnite: Save the World, which was a purely PvE experience. You can play Fortnite Battle Royale alone, or team up with up to three friends and battle it out together against other teams. You won’t find Fortnite on Steam, so you’ll need to head over to the Epic Games site and download the Epic Games Launcher, after which you can install and play Fortnite at your leisure.
Boiled down to its essentials, in each game of Fortnite Battle Royale up to 100 players drop down onto the same massive island, and, starting with no equipment of any kind, must scavenge guns, gear, and resources in order to survive in a brutal free-for-all where only one player out of the hundred can be crowned the winner. It’s a survival of the fittest, like all other Battle Royales; but Fortnite differs from any of its rivals by giving players the ability to build structures out of the resources they harvest, to provide cover against enemy fire, or to help reach less accessible places.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg – building is actually as important to a successful game of Fortnite as learning how to use its arsenal of weapons. The worst thing you can do when you’re under fire is just stay still and try to shoot back. So, are you ready for rule number one of Fortnite? Here it is: the moment you are shot at, start building. Build four walls around you, put a ramp beneath your feet, and then look for your assailant.
There! That was your first Fortnite lesson, and you’re already off to a roaring start. There are plenty more mechanics that make up a game of Fortnite, of course, such as the Storm, which begins to close around the island shortly after each match begins. You must try to stay in the Eye of the Storm as it shrinks, because the Storm will damage anyone caught inside. As with other Battle Royale games such as Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, this results in players slowly being pushed closer together and forced to fight one another for survival.
Things to consider when starting a match
Here are RPS’s top points to consider when starting a new match. These tips should give you a bit of an edge against other players who come up against you in the first minutes of a game of Fortnite.
Before the match begins, you’ll be placed on the Spawn Island, where you can freely practice moving, building, and shooting with the weapons on the ground without fear of dying. You can also use this moment to bring up your map and view the flight path of the Battle Bus, because this an effect on where might be a good place to land.
When deciding where to land, you should be aware of the risk-reward nature of the various locations across the map. Large towns like Tilted Towers, Pleasant Park, Retail Row, and Paradise Palms all contain lots of loot, but they’re also very popular and often you’ll have to contend with a dozen or more players for said loot. You should also bear in mind that the closer a location to the Battle Bus’s flight path, the more popular it is likely to be.
As soon as you leave the Battle Bus, you will start to freefall. You can direct yourself while in the air, and maneuver yourself as you see fit. Once you hit a certain distance above the ground, your parachute will deploy – though you can deploy your parachute at any time before this point too. While parachuting, you can also use “WASD” to move around and pinpoint your landing.
Once you’ve deployed your parachute and you’re waiting to land, have a quick look around to see if anyone else is landing near you. This will give you a decent idea of how quickly you’ll need to find a weapon and other equipment, and be ready for a fight.
The first thing to do once you land is to loot up, because you’ll need at least a single weapon – and preferably several – to defend yourself from nearby enemies. Try to land on the roof of a house or a building and dig through the building from top-to-bottom.
In particular, keep an eye and ear out for chests to open, because these will always contain a weapon. When you’re near a chest, you will get an audio cue, like some sort of wonderful angelic humming, which will tell you where exactly the chest is hidden. There are hundreds of chest locations scattered across the map which you can learn with time and experience, though be aware that chests will not always spawn in every one of these locations.
Nearly as important as weapons are shield potions, which you can find on the ground or in chests, like weapons. You start the game with 100 health, but you also have a shield bar above your health bar, which can be filled up using shield potions. More on Shields and potions below.
Once you’ve got weapons, ammo, shields, and other items, you should concentrate on chopping down trees, walls, fences, and other objects in order to gain some materials so you can throw up some walls if someone starts shooting at you. Remember, building in Fortnite is absolutely essential for success, so teach yourself to build the moment you come under fire.
Weapon types and rarities
Weapons in Fortnite: Battle Royale can be organised into six or seven categories, as follows: Assault Rifles, Shotguns, SMGs (& LMGs), Sniper Rifles, Pistols, and Explosives. Within each of these categories you’ll find several different weapon types, and each of those will have different available rarities, all colour-coded and named:
Common (Grey)
Uncommon (Green)
Rare (Blue)
Epic (Purple)
Legendary (Gold)
These rarities are important to understand properly when it comes to choosing which weapons to keep and which to discard over the course of a match. Simply put, a high rarity weapon will always be objectively better than the same weapon in a lower rarity. So you should always, for example, choose a Gold Assault Rifle over a Grey Assault Rifle. But equally important is this: if you’re looking at two completely different weapons, don’t just go for the higher rarity weapon. A Green Pump Shotgun is much more essential than a Gold Minigun.
It’s also worth taking into account the type of ammunition which a gun takes. There are five types of ammo in the game: Light Bullets, Medium Bullets, Heavy Bullets, Shells ‘n’ Slugs, and Rockets. Broadly speaking, they are reserved for SMGs, Assault Rifles, Sniper Rifles, Shotguns, and Explosives, respectively – but there are a number of exceptions to this, and so you should take care to check if you have enough ammo to justify taking one weapon over another.

Materials and building
Collecting materials and building your way into and out of trouble is an absolutely imperative tool in Fortnite. If you head into a game of Fortnite with the mindset of a PUBG player, you’re not going to get very far. The player with the ability to conjure cover out of thin air in front of them is going to beat the player who just focuses on shooting.
There are three different types of materials you can collect by breaking walls, trees, and other objects throughout Fortnite: wood, stone, and metal. In a standard game you can carry up to 999 of each type, and the amount you carry will always be displayed above your weapon hotbar on the right-hand side of the screen. With each of these materials you can build four different base structures: walls, floors, ramps, and roofs.
The moment you place a structure, it spawns with only a specific portion of its maximum health, and over the next few seconds it steadily increases to 100% health. So the longer a structure has been around, the stronger it will be. Wood is the flimsiest material for building, but it is the most easily accessible as you can get lots of wood be chopping down trees. Stone is stronger but more difficult to obtain, and metal is the strongest but takes the longest time to find and harvest.
You can also hit your Edit key while facing one of your structures, and the Edit overlay will appear, allowing you to alter these four base structures in many different ways. You can use this to great effect in a multitude of situations, but the most important and frequent use is to box yourself in when you’re in danger, then edit your way back out quickly. Learning to edit properly will up your game as much as learning to build while under fire does.
The best advice I can give you is to take full advantage of Fortnite’s Playground Mode. You can hop into the map on your own for up to an hour, and just practice building. You can collect materials extremely quickly in Playground mode, so just land somewhere with trees nearby, collect materials, and then practice walling up around yourself, editing your way out, exploring all the different possible editing combinations, testing the differences in material strengths, and so on. With great practice comes great build-ability.
The Fortnite Battle Royale Season 7 map
There is only one map in Fortnite, and it’s the same map that it has always been. Except that’s not true at all, really. As the seasons have passed and time has gone on, Epic Games have made some pretty monumental changes to the island, most recently with the advent of Season 7, where an entire third of the map was covered in ice and several new named locations were added. The Fortnite map is constantly changing, and even if it were not, it’s still large and detailed enough that even after many hundreds of hours’ play, you’ll still occasionally find something that surprises you.
Click on the Fortnite map below to see a full-resolution image of the map as it currently stands; and, as a special treat, here’s a link to one of the most useful sites I’ve found for learning the spawn locations of chests across the map.
The Storm
The Storm is one of the imperative features of games such as Fortnite, because it is an elegant way of forcing players together and ending the game within a certain amount of time. Shortly after the Battle Bus has finished its flight path across the map, you’ll start to receive periodic notifications on the Storm’s slow . You can keep track of where the Storm Circle is in relation to you using the minimap or the full map. If at any time you’re outside of the next Storm Circle, a white line will appear on the minimap, stretching away from where you are and leading you towards the Storm Circle, so that you can always keep track of it. You’ll have to be extra careful of this later on in the game, because the amount of Health which the Storm strips from you every second is increased in later circles, so even a full-health player may only last a few seconds outside of the Circle.
Different game types and limited time modes (LTMs) have been known to alter how exactly the Storm works over the course of a match, and Epic Games has been known to alter the Storm’s inner workings in various updates. But for the most up-to-date information of all the Storm’s different stages and stats throughout the course of a match, head on over to our  [cms-block] guide.
Health and Shields
Health and Shields essentially do the same thing – determine the amount of damage you can take before you die – but they interact with other Fortnite systems in differing ways that it is important to keep in mind. For example, all weapon damage will deplete Shields first, and then Health; but the Storm, fall damage, and certain other causes of damage will only affect Health, even if you have Shields active. And if your Health is brought down to zero, it doesn’t matter how full your Shield bar is: you’ll die.
Fortunately there are a variety of useful consumable items that you can find in chests, on the ground, and in special loot caches such as Llamas or Supply Drops, which allow you to replenish your Health bar or Shield bar (or both at once). So it’s always a good idea to try to have at least one slot on your hotbar dedicated to carrying a healing item of some sort. As for what each of them do, and which it is better to take under different circumstances, take a look at our [cms-block] guide for the latest info and accepted tactics.
Managing your inventory
While Fortnite generally does a pretty great job of displaying all the really important information on the screen at all times, you will also need to learn how to properly use and manage your inventory. And you’ll need to do it quickly, too, because when your character stands still while you’re in your inventory, making you easy pickings for enemy snipers.
The most common reason to go into your inventory is to swap around items in your hotbar, which you can do by dragging and dropping the items where you want them to go. If you want to discard a weapon or item and free up a slot in your hotbar for something else, you can either select the item in question and hit “X” to drop the item, or a quicker solution is to drag the item to the left, outside of the inventory, which will drop the item at your feet.
You can also click on any of the items in your hotbar to bring up some information on the item. If it’s a weapon, this includes stats such as damage, clip size, and rate of fire, which it is useful to know – however bear in mind that certain other stats, particularly those relating to a weapon’s accuracy, are not shown here, so your best bet is to take a look at our [cms-block] guide, which is packed with stats and useful information on every single weapon in Fortnite.
Your inventory is also useful for keeping track of your “trap” items (these include not just Damage Traps, but other placeable items such as Campfires and Turrets), and also for seeing how much of each ammo type and material type you have. With these later items, a useful trick for when you’re playing in duos or squads is that you can double-click on a material or ammo type in order to drop them in increments for the other player, or select the material/ammo in question and hit “Z” to drop half your current amount.
This is particularly useful in duos, because if you want to make sure you both have equal numbers of mats, all you have to do is stand slightly apart from each other, drop half of each of your three materials, and then go round and pick up the other player’s dropped stacks. Et voila!
Fortnite tips and tricks to improve your game
Finally, here are some general tips and tricks which we’ve found to be particularly effective at helping you to reach your potential and up your kill and win rates. Some may be obvious, but they’re still worth mentioning just in case; and others will be more advanced tactics and strategies to employ once you’ve got some practice in and are looking to take your game to the next level.
Learn to build and edit! I cannot stress this enough. There are two widely accepted indicators that a player is new to Fortnite: they’re using the default skin; and they don’t build while fighting. It takes some time to get used to building and editing under pressure, but it’s necessary if you want to play well. Even if you have the most fantastic aim in the world, you’ll still always come off worse against the player with decent aim and a solid grasp of building, so spend time in Playground Mode learning to quickly throw up walls, ramps, roofs and floors, and edit your way out of them.
Always be on the move. Fortnite is a game that rewards movement and punishes predictability. You don’t have to be as stealthy as in games such as PUBG, because in Fortnite you have the ability to build around you the moment you come into danger. When you’re running to a nearby house or sprinting towards the next Storm Circle, make sure you’re unpredictable in your movements. Jump every couple of seconds, and add some wiggle to your path. If you’re just running in a straight line, you’re an easy target for enemy snipers.
The high ground is your frienemy. Fortnite is famous for its so-called “build-battles”, where players will build higher and higher in an elaborate dance, each attempting to occupy the high ground where they have the advantage. And it’s true that the high ground is almost always safer than the low ground in 1v1 situations. But Fortnite is not a 1v1 game, it is a free-for-all with a hundred players all around you, and it’s the easiest thing in the world for a third party to happen across your build while you’re fighting another player and shoot the whole thing down. So always be aware of this possibility, and don’t build up so high that you’ll die to a third party.
Play Fortnite with headphones if you can. Fortnite’s audio plays an enormous part in spatial navigation and the locating of enemies. It’s very easy to lose track of your enemy during a build-battle unless you keep an ear out for their footsteps, or the sound of them reloading or drinking a shield potion. Headphones help you to pinpoint the location of the enemy, and good headphones will help even more. But bear in mind that even with decent headphones, it can be tricky to determine whether an enemy is above you or below you.
Be very wary of Damage Traps. Damage Traps deal a whopping 150 damage to any enemy of the player who places it, and can be placed on a wall, floor, or ceiling. They also persist forever until destroyed, so even if you’re sure that enormous build is long since abandoned, you still should exercise caution. Be aware also that many players are very adept at trapping you in a box during a build-battle and placing Damage Traps around you. You can avoid a Damage Trap by hugging the opposite wall, but it’s best not to get yourself into this situation in the first place.
Roofs are extremely powerful and underutilized structures. It’s a shame that most people learn how to use walls, floors, and ramps, and then completely neglect the roofs, which serve to phenomenally augment your building toolkit in many situations. But then that’s not such a shame really, because it means you’ll have an advantage over the rest when you learn to use them! Roofs serve as an extra layer of protection against a player with the high ground; they can be held in edit mode to peak through without exposing yourself; they can be placed on the floor in buildings and used to get good shots through windows; and if you work them into your build-battle odds are it will throw off your opponent just that little bit more.
Crouch in moderation. Crouching is useful during fights as it reduces the bloom and tightens the spread of your gunfire, which is crucial for landing those mid- to long-range headshots. But your mobility is impaired while you crouch, so you must pick your moments, and I’d advise you steer clear of crouching altogether if you find yourself in a sniper duel, as you can aim just fine while standing and you’ll need all the mobility you can get to avoid being headshot into extinction.
Learn one place, and learn it well. The key to improving at Fortnite, at least at first, is consistency. And the way to improve your consistency is to do the same things over and over until you are utterly comfortable with the routine. Most players will land at the same one or two locations 70-80% of the time, and they’ll know those places inside out – not just where the chests and vending machines are, but how much competition to expect, the path to run while gathering resources, which location to rotate to next, and so on. So stick to one place for a couple of weeks, and just continue to drop there, even if you find yourself dying constantly there. With each failed run, your game will imperceptibly improve.
Confront your weaknesses. The key to improving your game is to analyse where your shortcomings lie. Are you unable to land those long-range snipes? Do you die every time to grenade spammers? Do you hate using the Tactical Shotgun, or the Thermal Scoped Assault Rifle, or the Hand Cannon? Whatever your shortcoming is, over the next dozen or more games make it your goal to put yourself back in those same situations, and learn to overcome your weakness. It seems obvious, but putting it into practice is the key thing here, and it’s what every top player has done many times to get to the next level of skill and consistency.
Share ammo and materials with your teammates. Nobody likes a metal hogger. Share your resources with your teammates, and communicate when you need something else that they have. It’s so simple, but often neglected and leads to the death of your squad, all because of a simple lack of communication. Try to make a point of asking every so often how many materials your teammates have, and whether they or you have any deficits.
Some fights are worth avoiding. I get that diving into each and every fight you see is a great way to learn, but once you get past that stage and want to improve your win rate, you’ll find that not every fight will leave you in the best position. The truth is that Fortnite is a game that rewards the third party, because if you can take advantage of two players fighting, sneak up, and kill them both without taking damage, you’ll be left in a much better position than if you’d been the one to initiate. So take your time, assess whether your position is one of strength or weakness, and always be on the lookout for third party opportunities.
Watch streamers, spectate games, analyse replays. If you find yourself completely outmatched in a game and die to a player who looks like they know what they’re doing, then consider watching them play for a while, and assessing how they make decisions, and what they do differently. Same with watching streamers – many of the top Fortnite streamers play for hours on end every day, and they’re exceptionally skilled at the game. Keep an eye out in particular for streamers and players who commentate on and analyse their own games for the benefit of the viewers (shoutout in particular to SypherPK, a pro player and streamer whose live educational commentaries series is one of the best resources out there for players looking to improve every aspect of their game).
That’s just about everything we have for now on Fortnite, and hopefully the tips and tactics outlined above will help you on your way to Victory Royale greatness. As we mentioned, Fortnite is a constantly evolving game, and we’ll be working hard to make sure all the information here is as up to date as possible, so go ahead and bookmark this page so you can always refer back to the latest news and guides on Fortnite Battle Royale.
