I usually try to tune out of a lot of news for my own sanity but when it comes to black girls and women I can’t turn a blind eye. I designed these three posters and decided that I would share them with as many people as I could. Please feel free to repost and share wherever. Let’s do what we can to let black girls know that they matter and we won’t let them disappear in silence.

@Regrann from @im_a_real_god_13 - We are NOT all "ONE" and we and NOT "All The Same." We have a different biological makeup and they know that WE ARE GODS!!! I keep trying to tell y'all, "THIS IS NOT JUST ENTERTAINMENT." 📣The is real life shit.. 800,000 BLACK children go missing every year. 64,000 BLACK Woman currently missing, and 1.5 million BLACK men.. And we can't trust those numbers. I'm sure they are higher than that. 📣They hold a Melanin Conference every year were they gather the top doctors, scientists, and professors and they discuss their "New Findings" of the power of Melanin.. 📣There has been so much poof given about The Clinton Foundation and their involvement in stilling organs from the children in Haiti. And there is also a huge epidemic of organ trafficking in Jamaica right now. 📣 Every wonder how they REALLY make melatonin? 📣 Every wonder why there are so many "Drive By's" in the hood but the shots be on target? 🤔 #WakeUpTheHood #BelieveNothing #QuestionEveryThing #DoTheDamnReseach #Melanin #OrganTrafficking #StealingOurPower #WeAreGods #BlackKings #BlackQueens #FindOurMissing #PinealGland #GetOut - #regrann #StayWoke #Amerikkka

Gone, Girl
Mariah Williams
Tumblr media
According to the National Crime Information Center" Black girls represent only 13.3% of the total United States population but comprise 33.8% of those missing. Recently it was reported that 14 black girls had gone missing in one day in Washington, DC. Although this was a false report, it shed light on the silence and lack of attention given to missing and exploited people of color.
This piece prompts the reader to imagine that the women who go missing are peers from VCU and to encourage dialogue around this issue so that victims do not remain mere statistics.
“I was in a class with her,” he said.
“I used to see her at the compass all the time,” she said.
“Oh yeah, she was cool. I just figured she decided school was too hard.”
From the quads of campus, she vanished. Her professor withdrew her and marked her as a simple “No Show.” Kept on teaching her lesson, making no mention of the empty space that now filled her class room.
Students continued their activities as usual, forgetting the face of the girl they had grown so used to seeing on her way to class.
One month later, another girl disappeared. “She must’ve finally gotten burned out,” they said. Another name withdrawn from Blackboard. All signs of her presence deleted with a click.
Black girl gone. No one knows her name, who she is nor where she goes.
But no one asks either.
Assumed that she ran away
From something.
School, home, life, abuse. Something she could not take so she left everyone wondering
“She said she was just taking some time off.”
“She will be back. I mean, she has to take her finals, right.”
31, 231 students.
59% females
16% Black/African-American
7% Hispanic and Latino
Except, the black and Latina women who disappear daily are not numbers. Not just your classmates
They are mothers, sisters, wives, friends, students.
Human.
Gone, girl. Too soon.
Not a trace in sight
Just written off in a teacher’s planner. Erased from the mind of a fellow peer.
Where they go. No one asks.
But the frequency of bodies gone ghost reflects how we see or don’t see them in the first place.
Don’t allow her to disappear easily.
That girl you sit next you, let her know that you care if she is present.
Be accountable for the well-being of the peers you see day in and day out
Question if she goes absent or missing.
Do not let her go in vain
Mariah Williams is a graduate student at VCU pursing a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning. She enjoys reading, writing and is passionate about social justice issues within the Black community. She loves her Black and her magic and wants to become an urban planner who works with women of color to develop cultural and inclusive spaces within neighborhoods and cities.

#DALLAS #Texas (KNWA) — #GreyhoundBus Lines teams with the #NationalRunawaySafeline ( #NRS ) to offer #runaway kids a #free ticket home to get back with their families or guardians, if they choose to do so. Every year, around 400 kids and teens who have run away get a free ride home with #Greyhound — anywhere in the U.S. — it’s called the “ #HomeFree ” program. Here’s how the eligibility works: The child, or teen, calls the NRS helpline. Must be between the ages of 12 and 21. Be named on a runaway report and be willing to be reunited with their family (and vice versa). Home Free can be used two times by the same person. A free ticket is provided for the parent, or legal guardian, if the person is 15 or younger. NRS phone hotline was founded in 1971 by a group of Chicago agencies and was originally called “Metro Help.” By 1974 the nonprofit opened a national hotline. It is based out of Chicago, Illinois and operates 24-hours a day 365 days a year. NRS Mission: ‘To keep America’s runaway, homeless and at-risk youth safe and off the streets.” The toll-free number is 1-800-RUNAWAY (1-800-786-2929). NATIONAL RUNAWAY SAFELINE PARTIAL 10-YEAR DATA REPORT: Youths contact NRS for support while living at home NRS has responded to nearly 90,000 calls, via 24-hour hotline, email, chat and online forums 85% who contact NRS are 18 years of age or younger; average age is 17 69% are women who connect with NRS Caucasians are the largest single group of youth in crisis reaching out to NRS, followed by African Americans and Latinos #findourmissing #findourmissingpoc #missingpoc #missingchild #Missingteen https://www.instagram.com/p/B6u4Sk6BurH/?igshid=qh4r3d9qrwem
