the list of men i have shouted "i love one man" to during the shows
1. my cat, not from a tv show, but i love this cat so much hes a pretty cool cat his name is kylo ren and has the facial structure of kylo ren and he really is the vibe
Sits around all day watching twitch streamers and anime with my sister all day and when I say all day i mean all day 10 am in the morning to 10 at night.
2. dr spencer reid
do i need to explain my whole blog was based on him for over a year. also he's just like me a small (i do still love him when he thickness in the later seasons) anxious bisexual nonbinary with a hyper fixation we decided to go to college for and no ability to do sports. Also neurodivergent and childhood trauma.
3. amajiki
this my hero acidemia boy just radiates the same energy I radiate. have you seen him in the entirety of season 5 episode 1 he is too precious for this world.
4. finn hudson
this man is just a giant dork, and glee was never the same I genuinely will rewatch his little expressions and one-liners during season 3 because it is so good. I mean go and watch season three of glee and watch Finn the whole time
I would like to say that kurt is my favorite male character but i am not sexually attracted to him.
but I will be a happy person if you just give me the hudson-hummel boys
5. leo roth
if you saw red band society you would understand but also he is sometimes a dick but i'm not anything if i'm not attracted to slightly toxic men
this man is so sweet and I just dream about how he would of grown if the show was picked up for a second season. if you havent watched red band society i recommend it.
6. stiles stalinski
ill point you to the god-awfulness that is season 6 of teen wolf dylan obrien and stiles made that show and i would like to cuddle
when this man is on the screen the eyes go to him and he is just so funny the show just got bland when he left and when he show up with lydia in those last few episodes it was perfection.
but also I would never take him away from lydia they are perfect for each other and I love them, can I have a threesome, please?
we also ignore the shit show that was the movie.
7. shoyo hinata
this little ginger fireball has my entire heart and I would like to lift him above my head for him to win even though it is definitely against the rules
8. Camoron Goodkin
yo stichers was this weird show that I didn't think anyone watched and then jake or logan paul showed up and I stopped watching but before that cameron was my everything. I have since finished it and feel the same feelings for cameron.
camoron goodkin has a heart condition just like me and it's actually kinda accurate and he had a scar like mine and the younger me was like “oh my god i can find love” because Cameron got a sexy blond and i wanted a sexy blond.
9. Bow
I love how he’s so smart and dumb at the same time. Also his shoe tread is little hearts I mean that’s everything. Go watch she ra all of the characters are adorable and I would take a fucking bullet for them.
10. nick nelson
I read the comics way before the show and then the show came out and I was a goner. he is everything and kit Connor deserves so much better.
11. the greys anatomy boys(and kai)
alex and mark are my everything. complete dicks, or you're supposed to hate them when they come in, and then you fall in love. even though mark comes in on season 2 his time felt so quick this time around I miss him. and alex, come on he's a peds surgeon who is amazing with kids and parents I can definitely understand why the single moms soon.
I'd like to also mention kai bartley but they are not a man but I still love them so much. and I'm counting it because they get to kiss amelia shepherd and I'd like to kiss amelia shepherd. but do not think that just because I'm mentioning them on this list it means I'm ignoring their identity because i am not. i'd just like another threesome or poly situation with them.
that's my last one for now. i might add later.

(From The New York Times, 3 September 1972, by John Nelson Washburn)
Yachting is surely the most paradoxical of all the sports on the 1972 Olympic program caught up in Soviet‐American rivalry. It is always referred to as a rich man's sport. Yet the major stronghold of the world proletariat has developed a team of yachtsmen capable of threatening Western supremacy at Kiel.
How could that happen?
Primarily, because money is no problem of individual Soviet yacht racers of Olympic caliber produced over nearly two decades under the centrally organized, government‐funded system of Soviet sports.
The great majority of the U.S.S.R's top yachtsmen belong to the Armed Forces yachting team. Five of the six 1972 U.S.S.R. yachting champions qualifying for berths on the Olympic yachting team belong to it.
They are Roland Berdash in the Finn Dinghy Class; Vladimir Leont'ev in the Flying Dutchman Class; Boris, Budnikov in the Starr Class; Valentin Mankin in the Tempest Class, and Timir Pinegrin in the Soling Class. The 1972 Soviet national champion in the six approved Olympic yachting classes for 1972 who is not one of its members but a member of the “Labor” sport society is Boris Khabarov, in the Dragon Class.
Reading a lot of the vintage sailing books from the 1980s like I do, I find information about Eastern Bloc competitors in international competitions mostly at the periphery of English-language memoirs. Dennis Conner got along with Valentin Mankin, but what did Mankin think of him? Cam Lewis and Russell Coutts were disappointed not to go to Moscow in 1980, but who couldn’t be in Los Angeles in 1984 to compete with them and how did they feel about that? How did the Fasizi and Age of Russia projects come to be and how much did the public in Warsaw Pact nations know about the Whitbread and America’s Cup before that?
I don’t know if there are any books in English about recreational sailing behind the Iron Curtain in the last years of the Cold War and I’m definitely not the kind of specialized historian who could write one. (And I also don’t know any of the relevant languages!) But I do find it interesting to gather little nuggets of information on the topic such as this article.

One thing that really put me off season 6 of Peaky blinders is the complete lack of hope.
What I love about the earlier seasons is seeing these people who come from a poor, working class background come together as a family and overcome a bigger threat. These people shouldn’t have been able to win in these circumstances but you just knew they would, because of Tommy’s intelligence and Polly’s fierce love for her family and John and Arthur being loyal and reliant brothers.
Season 6 has none of that. It’s just one bad thing after another after another with no real hope that this family we have invested in for so long will actually come away victorious. It’s basically not until the last like 30 minutes of the finale this changes and even then there’s still bad things happening and this family being fractured further.
What was the point in kicking Finn out of the family instead of, oh I don’t know, actually raising your little brother to feel like a member of the family not a burden with an inflated ego because he’s a Shelby. Why couldn’t we see Michael and tommy fix their relationship, with Michael realising that Polly’s death was not solely Tommy’s fault and working with the family his mother loved to take down Gina and the Nelsons as well as the fascists?
I signed up for a show about a family pulling themselves out of poverty, and I feel like that was completely butchered in the final season.

The Baumans, Sellers of Really, Really Rare Books
Their shop is the thinking person’s place to go after hitting the jackpot in Las Vegas (or New York).
What reward does one buy after winning at the gambling tables in Las Vegas or sitting through an excruciatingly dull convention there? A Rolex, a designer handbag, a new bracelet?
How about a rare book?
It was 11 years ago that David and Natalie Bauman, the owners of a successful rare book store in Manhattan, open since 1988, decided to expand to Las Vegas, opening a store on a relatively quiet second floor walkway among the Grande Canal Shoppes between the Venetian and Palazzo hotels. On the main floor, ersatz gondolas with gondoliers ferry tourists from end to end.
Their shop is wedged next to Lazarou, a custom men’s clothing store, and just across from Mezlan, which sells shoes. Its two-story, elegant bookcases are filled with carefully arranged volumes, many bound in embossed leather. A reading table at the center of the store recalls an Ivy League college library. A patient saleswoman awaits visitors at a podium close to the entrance.
On a recent day, in a locked vitrine, were first editions of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking-Glass” in full leather pictorial bindings. Printed in 1866 and 1872, they sell together for $23,000. For $700 one could by a first edition of Margaret Thatcher’s “The Path to Power,” signed by her.
In a town of sparkle and flash, rare books are an anomaly, but for the Baumans, they are lucrative. One visitor spent $400,000 on “The Great Gatsby” and McKenney and Halls’ “History of the Indian Tribes of North America” in a single visit. Another, a quiet man in shorts, flip-flops and a T-shirt spent $15,000 on a first edition of “Huckleberry Finn” and then several weeks later returned to pick out a first edition of “The Catcher in the Rye” for $17,000. (One can only imagine what Holden Caulfield would think of that.)
But most receipts are well under $1,000, Ms. Bauman said. Julia Child’s “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” is a bargain at $850, and a 1996 first edition of Chuck Palahniuk’s “Fight Club” goes for about $1,000.
One Las Vegas visitor started with modest purchases. Then he became fascinated with Gould’s “Birds of Great Britain” an ornithological plate book that contains a series of spectacular plates, colored by hand, plunking down $100,000.
Later he paid $500,000 for a first edition of Isaac Newton’s “Principia.”
“Most People Don’t Look Up”
The couple got into rare books quite by accident, recalled David Bauman, a gentle, soft-spoken man in his 70s, after espying some at Freeman, the auction house in Philadelphia where they lived as newlyweds. “For $1 we bought a first edition of a volume of Samuel Johnson’s works, then we bought a first edition of James Joyce’s “Ulysses” for $12, and we started to think about it as a business,” he said. “We were not afraid then, because we did not know enough to be afraid.”
They opened a small store on the second floor of a building across the street from Freeman’s. “But what we did not realize is that most people don’t look up,” Mr. Bauman said.
So they decided to go to antique shows around the country selling books. They eschewed New York because “we were told it was just terrifying,” Natalie Bauman said. “But when we finally came to the city, we made more money in one day as we made in six months going around the country.”
They next set up shop at the Waldorf Astoria, because “you want to put yourself where the kind of people who buy your books will go,’’ Mrs. Bauman said. Easy enough, right?
Nope.
“The first week, we did not sell any books. No one even came into the store,” she recalled. But then Nelson Doubleday appeared. Mr. Doubleday had been chairman of Doubleday and Co., his family’s business but had sold it for hundreds of millions. “He looked around and bought half of our inventory and had it shipped to his yacht. He was also the godson of Rudyard Kipling,” Mr. Bauman said.
Eleven years later, the Baumans decided to open at 535 Madison Avenue, where they remain, after walking up and down the blocks there to evaluate the market. “Mostly businessmen,” Mr. Bauman said.
One day, two women from the Midwest walked into the store. “We came to New York to see different, great things and there is magic in your store,” one told Mrs. Bauman.
Some years later her husband went to visit a cousin working on a project in Las Vegas. “I realized that there was over one million feet of convention space underneath the hotels,” he said. “Casinos have studied everything about their customers. They were making more money from the stores than from the casinos.”
He realized that the millions of visitors who arrive in Las Vegas each year “are there to enjoy themselves. They have the time to look at books and put a toe in the water. When you are on vacation, you have more discretionary income and more time to spend it.”
Buzz Aldrin’s Teletype
Still, for the Baumans, opening in Vegas was a big investment. They wanted a store that had the elegance of a wonderful library. ”We believe we sell beautiful things so they should be housed in a beautiful place,” Mr. Bauman said. The store also required a staff of nine people, since it is generally open 13 hours a day.
Its sales staff has to be very knowledgeable. “He would quiz us,” Eric Pederson, who now manages the Manhattan store, said. “David would point to a book and ask us to tell us everything we knew about it.” Today a 32-person staff works in New York, Las Vegas and Philadelphia, where much of the research and online business takes place.
Over time experts learn what makes a book valuable. For example, Mr. Pederson explained, the earliest copies of the first edition of Ernest Hemingway’s “The Sun Also Rises” said “author of ‘In Our Times’” on the dust jacket. “You had to know it was an error that was soon “corrected to “In Our Time.” “The mistake told you that book was an earlier copy.”
Initial printings of “Huckleberry Finn” had errors as well. On page 57 a sentence read: “With his was …” because the letters for the word “saw” had been reversed. In later printings it was corrected to: “With his saw.”
And a copy of “Ulysses” signed by both James Joyce and Henri Matisse was printed before their dispute because Joyce grew upset when he realized that Matisse had relied on Homer’s “Odyssey” as a source of inspiration, rather than Joyce’s “Ulysses.”
But erudition is not enough to keep the Baumans afloat. Marketing and event planning are equally important. In July 2009, the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing, the store promoted a group of space exploration books including Buzz Aldrin’s Teletype message of the safe touchdown, which he later signed, six volumes of limited editions by astronauts including John Glenn and Scott Carpenter. For a nice stocking stuffer one year, the Baumans offered a first edition of Charles Dickens’s “A Christmas Carol,” published in 1843. The price: $38,000.
For gamblers who pray to win, and may need a little help, the store had offered an exhibit of rare bibles like a fragment of the microform containing 50 pages of the King James Bible. Three years ago, it held an exhibit of cookbooks, including the first Jewish one published in America.
The Baumans, who spend most of their time in New York and a 12,000-square-foot headquarters in Philadelphia, remain obsessed by books. “When we are going on vacation, we have to pick a place with no bookshops,” Mr. Bauman said. “We like Thailand, Vietnam and Turkey: Turkey because you could not buy and take away old Qurans because they are antiquities. So all we could buy was fabric.”
Their success in Las Vegas has been “a pleasant surprise,” he said, with a few unexpected advantages.
For example, the city attracts more than 42 million visitors a year, but the average stay is only three and a half days. “You don’t have to change your windows very often,” Mr. Bauman said.
Tiny details and the aesthetics aren’t merely a side note, they’re as important as anything else.

My thoughts on The 100 7x05
Tumblr media
Hey, guys,
Sorry for not doing any comments on the last two episodes. I’ve been a little busy and I struggled to connect to the show, so it hindered my enjoyment, but it’s all better now. Liked episode 4 and 5 was even better, jampacked with info and it answered a lot of questions.
Welcome to Bardo
Badass Octavia is da bomb (people don’t say that anymore, right?). When she was captured in episode two, I thought she had lost her fighting spirit, but it’s back, bitches. Well, until she runs into an invisible wall trying to escape. She’s captured and transported to M-cap (whatever that means). Then we get a welcome little flashback to Lincoln but it’s obvious that Bellamy would be the hand reaching out. He’s her rock, like she’s expressed many times.
Unlike John Murphy who is not quite a friend, or family and definitely not a lover. Introducing so many new characters in the final season of a show is never a good idea, because this is the time to wrap up all the stories of the existing ones, but come on, who cannot love Levitt. Even when he first meets Octavia, he doesn’t want to hurt her. Jason, you better not harm one hair on this precious little puppy’s head!
Tumblr media
As he binges The 100 through Octavia’s eyes, he starts rooting for her, and he actually gives a damn, unlike most people on this show. He understands her strengths and weaknesses and he makes her see it too. “You’re a warrior to be sure, but your heart is pure.” Wow, what an honest and beautiful line. So is O and Hope’s fleeting little reunion. It’s amazing to experience this deep loving side of Octavia after her darkness. She’s truly one of the most diverse and developed characters on the series. Now Hope and her resilience is quickly making it to the top as well.
While Hope is trying to send her back home, we learn that memory loss is due to the time dilation. One quick note on this, it’s not linear, there’s no easy equation to calculate it unless you’re Stephen Hawking or Einstein. I don’t think it’s constant either. 10 years on Skyring = 11 days on Bardo = a few minutes on Sanctum. In the current time, 5 years on Skyring = 1 day on Sanctum = 7 days on Bardo. So, it’s clear that the planets are moving, and other factors are playing into the phenomenon. It’s more important to understand the time relative to each planet.
Levitt was the one who tattooed Hope’s code onto O’s back, also the one who planted the note into Hope’s arm. Indeed the kind of man you want on the inside, he even accepts a blow to the face as thank you.
Sheep-ish?
Thirty minutes on the clock and the trio gets led to a congregation to praise the shepherd. I never thought it was Anders, I do, however think it might be Cadogan. The Bordoan’s built the underground forest because they destroyed their planet. Ugh, what’s new? The shepherd herded his sheep from earth to Bardo via the stone. Cadogan and his second dawn cult?
Back to Clarke. So, after last episode I thought ‘the key to winning the last war’ line was an artifice for luring Clarke to disciples, but now it’s clearly true. They’ve located the key and they will win the last war. Levitt was interested in Clarke surviving the City of Light with the flame in her head, they probably assume she still has it. Cadogan burned Becca alive. Could it be because of the flame? Is this all because of that damn little chip that can’t seem to die?
Tumblr media
Bellamy is not dead, I repeat, Bellamy is not dead! I believe that memory could be staged or implanted for a reason. Also, there’s no body, he jumped through the bridge. In the promo photos, he wears a ring but his actions towards Octavia seem a little cold and generic. On first watch, I thought it was bad acting but if he was programmed to do this, it makes sense.
Note the sequence of events. Octavia returned 7 days ago and was asked to talk her brother down, but we don’t see the actual scene. Instead we’re shown a memory. They could have implanted it to make her vulnerable and perhaps more susceptible to the procedure. I don’t know, but this theory could lead to Robot-sheep!Bellamy on Nakara, where he’ll encounter Clarke and the gang.
I have to be honest, I really don’t like this character arc for Bellamy. It’s unoriginal and a mime of Peeta’s storyline in Mockingjay. Sorry, but so far it feels like the writers were so over the show, they just wanted to get it done. And that attitude really bleeds into one’s creative concepts. I could be completely wrong, in fact, I hope I am.
Echo spins a Finn
Tumblr media
My word, I lost the love of my life once, but I sure didn’t kill anyone. When Echo received that vision of Roan, I was hoping for some progression on her individual arc, they’ve made me care about her, and now we get the opposite. Why? One thing I have to admit, a killer performance from Tasya Teles! No pun intended.
Look, this show hasn’t explored Bellamy and Echo’s relationship enough to make her murder believable. It was the exact same thing with Finn. I wasn’t invested in Finn and Clarke’s connection, so his actions of killing a grounder tribe was more repulsive than understandable. Sure, Echo loves Bellamy and her sole purpose is to save him, but I’ve never truly witnessed their love for each other. They had one or two intimate scenes which cannot compel a deed like this. And in the process, she screwed Hope and Diyoza.
Anyway, I don’t think there’s any coming back from it. She murdered an innocent person in cold blood. That’s sure to open a door to the dark side.  Just look at Octavia after killing Pike and her actions were justified by jus drein jus daun.
Say Sanctum three times slowly and it sounds like… Sanctum
Blind faith
Look, I’m just gonna come out and say this song is getting old. Every episode featuring Sanctum is the exact same thing with different lines. Can we please move on from it, already? Yes, we know the COG want Russel dead, and the adjusters will go to extreme lengths to free Russel and the prisoners are background noise.
I did appreciate Nelson stepping in to try and save the girl, though. Still doesn’t save the fact that it’s repetitive. The Sanctum plotline is really struggling to take shape and I hope it happens soon. Dramatic eyeroll.
Tumblr media
At least in the drought of a desert, you can always count on Murphy. “…I say we live and let die.” Typical cockroach line, right, but it’s ironic when he’s the one to step up, even if it is for Emori. Under the magnifying glass it’s the exact same plot as episode 1 and 3. He hesitates to take action, and eventually becomes the hero.
I mean, he saved that poor kid from being burned alive. Can you imagine sacrificing your own child in such a horrific away? Cults are beyond whacked, and, unfortunately, it’s reality that cult members are so blinded by their faith that they do not see rhyme or reason.
How did Murphy fail that test? I didn’t. When Trey named the four pillars, I thought, isn’t rejoice one of them? Surely, a cockroach would have smelled that trap a mile away.
Indra the great
Tumblr media
Can we just give a massive round of applause to Adina Porter!!! That powerhouse walk vibrates strength and majesty, damn, she should be a false god, I wouldn’t dare threaten her with or without an army.
Three little words was all it took for her to recognize evil. “There’s a spider on your shoulder.” Smooth. Too bad she can’t kill him. Why not, how many of the faithful are left to cause an uproar? Wonkru doesn’t know it’s Sheidheda, they won’t care, the COG will fall in line and the prisoners will be happy as long as they get their compound. Sorry, I don’t get it and I don’t understand why she doesn’t tell anyone.  Someone please explain?
Granted, JR Bourne as Russel is way better, but I still don’t understand his actions. I hope they explore and explain him more, because he still feels flat unless he knows something of this final war. I’m hoping these two storylines align soon since it’s really driving a wedge between me and my love for the show.
Shipwreck
I’ll start with the easy stuff, Murphy, Emori and the perfect dress gets a heart eye emoji from me. They are so damn cute this season, can they please live happily ever after in the palace?
Octabriel vs Levittavia
Now, I enjoy Levitt fangirling over Octavia. I feel like he has a deep sense of her through her memories. If I have to root for an underdeveloped relationship, it will have to be one where the characters share thoughts and experiences even if it is through a sick, sci-fi procedure.
On the other hand, Gabriel and Octavia have immense chemistry, two seconds of them together bends my mouth into an “Aah, cute” pout. This will also add some approval and representation for mixed racial relationships.
I really don’t mind either way as long as they make me care through showing and not telling.
Bellarke
So, if my theory is correct, and Bellamy does end up on Nakara, Bellarke will encounter each other quite soon. Bellamy won’t be himself though, but he might pretend to be Bellamy to win Clarke’s co-operation. Is there hope for Bellarke yet?
Echo is now trotting a dangerous path and Bellamy might be pledged to a cause, so I doubt there will be a happy ending for Becho. Since 7x01 I’ve been thinking that the writers might want to develop something between Clarke and Gaia but if they are separated, is there enough time? Guess we’ll see.
This monster of a review is finally done… If you read through everything, you deserve a gold star! Let me know what you think, till we meet again…

OUR LOVE WAS COMFORTABLE
WHO: @zoepuckerman & @theobeiste WHERE: outside the clarington-smythe residence WHEN: homecoming after party, 9/26 WHAT: zoe finds theo alone at darcy’s party after he gets kicked out of the dance. the two go for a walk and have A Moment.
ZOE: To say that her senior year homecoming dance didn’t go the way Zoe had always imagined it to would be a complete understatement. Sure, she had won homecoming queen like she always wanted, but the moment had been cut short thanks to two neantherandals who had to deal with their petty drama with their fists rather than words like sane human beings. She had been enjoying the way Cam’s arms felt wrapped around her when she heard the shouting. Realistically, she had known it was Austin before she even turned around. Who else could it have been?! The shocking twist to the scene was the other person throwing the punches. In all of the time they shared together, Zoe had never known Theo to be an aggressive person. It was safe to say that moment confused her and left her more than a little worried for him. She mentally added this to the list of crazy shit Theo had been up to this year, right behind dating Winnie Love-Karofsky. She didn’t want to blame Theo’s new side all on Winnie, but anyone who paid enough attention could see that the blonde certainly wasn’t bringing out the best in him. All this to be said, while Zoe would have happily skipped out on the after-party, there were some pressing matters she had to attend to first. She hadn’t been watching Theo’s every move, but it wasn’t hard to spot his 6’5” statue sneak out the front door. Against better judgment, Zoe followed. They had been avoiding each other since the break-up, and to be completely honest, she was over it. “Hi,” She announced softly as she approached him on the front porch, trying not to startle him. “You okay? That was," She paused, at a complete lack for words to describe the horrifying mental images. "Crazy back at the school. What happened?”
THEO: Theo was not a violent person, in fact, less than a week ago he had given Cam Evans a gentle lecture about punching Zane out on the football field. So how did he end up in this position with a bruised jaw and sore knuckles? He was so deeply embarrassed by everything that had happened at homecoming. He made himself look bad, he made the titans look bad, and he didn’t even want to get started on what his dad would say. He should’ve just gone home, but after some encouragement from his teammates, he was convinced that going to the afterparty would be a good thing. It’d take his mind off of getting kicked out of the dance for pummeling Austin and it’d help him forget about Winnie. He should’ve listened to his gut though because after doing his rounds and making himself a drink at Darcy’s, he still felt like shit. He needed some air. Theo maneuvered past the crowd of people crowding the Clarington-Smythe foyer and quickly exited through the front, finding a spot on the porch to drink by himself until this horrible feeling went away. And then…hi. Theo knew that voice. He whipped his head around and blinked a couple of times, shocked to see none other than Zoe Puckerman standing in front of him. “Hi,” he said back, a little too sternly as he waited for the other shoe to drop. Surely she was here to make a dig or rub everything that happened in his face. But that moment never came. When she asked about his night, he chuckled wryly and shook his head, knocking back his drink and ditching the cup on the ground. “Your date happened,” he told her with a shrug, clenching his jaws as he tried to quell the anger building inside of him, “him and Winnie. It doesn’t matter. Fuck them. They deserve each other.” He rolled his eyes slightly as he reflected on the night and then took a deep breath. Zoe clearly wasn’t here to argue and the last thing he wanted to do was start another fight. “You looked good out there,” he complimented, his voice suddenly gentler as he dared to meet her gaze, “I always knew you’d win but I’m glad the rest of McKinley agreed.” He gave her a little smile as he reached up and fixed her crown, “it suits you.” His touch lingered for maybe a second too long, so he quickly dropped his hand and cleared his throat. “How’s your night going? Do you wanna like…” he was feeling bold apparently, “maybe go for a walk or something? I’m feeling pretty claustrophobic here. Too many people.”(edited)September 26, 2020
ZOE: There were a lot of things that made sense together: peanut butter and jelly, Will Schuester’s son and Glee Club, Austin Nelson and a punch to the face... and then there was Theo and Zoe. Their relationship had been as picture perfect as it could have been, at least in the beginning. Zoe would always remember the way she’d stay up far too late texting Theo (and Eli + Finn to share all the cute things he was sending) to turn around and still be excited to see him first thing in the morning at school. She’d always remember the sweet, sensitive soul that stuck by her side when she didn’t deserve it. “He’s an idiot,” she offered, taking a step closer to Theo. She had admittedly kept her distance at the beginning in case of a quick exit. Between throwing punches and downing whatever was in his cup, she hadn’t been sure what she was approaching. “Fuck Winnie, Theo. She never deserved you in the first place.” If Zoe had to hand-select someone for Theo, Winnie very clearly would be at the bottom of the list. Fuck, she wouldn’t have even made the list at all. She was so obviously not what Theo needed, and tonight was proof in the pudding. “Thanks,” was all she could force out as Theo’s hands reached out to reposition her crown. It had been so long since they had talked one on one, let alone be sweet to each other. “My night has been confusing,” she admitted, not willing to give up any details. The last thing she needed was word of her kiss with Cam spreading around the party. She had to figure her shit out before anyone else could know. Zoe’s head turned back to the party, watching everyone through the window as she mulled over her decision. Going for a walk with Theo was probably not the best idea, but the look in his eyes said he needed it, and that alone had her nodding her head. “Yeah, let’s go.” A comfortable silence fell between the pair as they started out along the street, destination unknown. “You wanna really talk about it or no?” This was his situation, and if he preferred to pretend like it hadn’t happen, she was willing to give him that option.
THEO: He hummed curiously at her vague description of her night but opted not to pry. This was the first time in a long time that they’d had a positive interaction and he didn’t want to ruin it by asking too many questions. When she agreed to a walk, Theo led the way. He walked aimlessly along the sidewalk with Zoe at his side, their arms and hands occasionally bumping into each other causing Theo’s heart to jump. He kept his gaze glued to the street lights they passed and marveled at the nice houses that decorated this wealthy neighborhood. Her question brought him back down to reality and elicited a sigh. “I...” he shoved his hands into his pockets and stopped walking, glancing at her as she stopped too, “I don’t know what I’m doing, Zo. Everything is all fucked. Winnie....” he remembered her words. ‘Fuck Winnie.’ Who had come to find him after his brawl? Zoe. Who was trying to make him feel better despite everything they’d been through? Zoe. He wasn’t about to spend his time talking about the girl who seemed to give zero fucks about him...not when he was standing in front of the girl he still had so much to say to but never the forum to say it. “I don’t really want to talk about her,” he decided, shrugging as a sad smile tugged at the corners of his lips. “How’ve you been? I wanted to hit you up when all that shit was happening with Baby but...” he didn’t for obvious reasons, “is everything good now? How’s your mom?” It was his way of saying ‘I miss you’ and ‘I still think of you’ without actually having to say those things and he was sure she’d understand that.
ZOE: There was never going to be any sort of situation where Zoe Puckerman liked the sound of Winnie Love-Karofsky’s name rolling off anyone’s tongue, especially Theo’s. Even though they had broken up more than a year ago, there was always going to be a part of Zoe’s heart that was dedicated to Theo. He had been everything to her at one point. Zoe liked to pretend that she didn’t care,  but there was never going to be a time in her life where she didn’t think of him fondly. No matter the relationship between them, she’d always care for him and want the best for him, and it tore her apart that he couldn’t see (at least for the past couple of months) that Winnie was so blatantly the worst possible person for him. “You’re right,” Zoe responded, the harshness in her voice surprising even her. She had never cared for the bitchy blonde, and that was evident in the way she spoke. “She’s not worth your time or thoughts anymore, Theo. You deserve better. Really.” If Zoe didn’t like the way Winnie’s name sounded coming from Theo, she despised hearing Baby’s. “You should have,” she mumbled, unsure if he could hear her. “That sucked, Theo, and honestly? I could have used you just coming to me about it.” Zoe had spent countless nights lying awake, wondering if her sister had hooked up with her first love. The mental images were horrifying, but not as horrifying as having to relive them with him now. “My mom’s fine,” she paused, stopping in her tracks to turn and look at him. If they were going to do this, and really do this, they weren’t going to avoid eye contact. “I’m going to ask you this one more time, and I want an honest answer. Are you okay? Because, honestly, I feel like I don’t even know who you’ve become. Dating her, punching Austin,” her voice was softer than before, as if to convey she was genuinely concerned. “This isn’t you, T.”
THEO: There was an energy shift when Theo brought up their own past mistakes, the most recent one being the string of rumors about him and Baby. He kept his head bowed and his gaze downcast as she spoke, jaws clenched as he listened. “I know,” he sighed, finally meeting her eyes again, “I’m sorry. After we went on Joey’s show and shit I…didn’t think you wanted to hear from me. But I should’ve come to you.” He owed her that much. No matter how shitty things had gotten between them, she was still an important person in his life. Zoe had taught him so much about love, about being a good man, about being caring. That would never go away…even if their feelings for each other did. But as she approached him with a softer demeanor, genuine concern, and a truly loaded question, he wondered if their feelings really had gone away. He blinked a few times as he stared at her and considered her question. “I know this isn’t me,” he said, surprising himself with the choice to be honest, “but you know why, Zo. You know.” There was no way she didn’t know. Their falling out made a lasting impact on both of them. Zoe got a little harder, a little colder. Theo went off to the deep end by his own standards. “I don’t want to be like this anymore,” he admitted, taking a step closer as he let himself get lost in her eyes for a moment. As they stared at each other, he wondered if the girl who loved him was still anywhere inside her. He wondered if they could get back to who they were. “Can I try something?” he asked, the drink he downed earlier finally taking over as he gently brought his hands up to either side of Zoe’s face, “I just…I have to know.” Before he leaned in, he searched her face for some sign of approval, that it was okay for him to do this thing he was suddenly feeling the urge to do.
ZOE: The absolute worst part of loving someone was having to let go of them. It was really hard to look back and pin-point where everything had gone wrong between them. It truly seemed like one minute they were that couple. The obnoxious couple laughing in the hallways, always holding hands and making out, completely unaware of everyone around them. Only for her to turn around the next minute, unable to recognize them anymore. They had really gone from being in constant communication from the second they woke up to the second they fell asleep, to finding excuses to cancel plans. It had been Zoe, in the end, who had pulled the trigger and called it quits. She’d by lying, though, if she said it wasn’t one of the hardest things she’d ever done. She’d simply never forget the forlorn look in Theo’s eyes as he pulled away, leaving her with tears rolling down her cheeks on the driveway. “I wanted you to,” she admitted, confused eyes looking up at his. “I needed you tell me it wasn’t happening. You just left me to think of the worst possible scenario.” It wasn’t worth it to fight about Baby, not when there was a million and one things left unsaid between the pair. She knew, of course, why he had been acting the way he had. They both dealt with the break-up in horrific ways, and maybe, just maybe, that was a testament to how much they had cared for each other. Zoe took in a quick breath as he stepped closer to her and raised his hands to cradle her face. She couldn’t remember the last time they had been in a position like this. “Theo,” she finally whispered, her eyes widening at his suggestion. It wasn’t a complete denial. In some sort of sick, twisted way, she understood his need to be certain about this. She’d be lying if she said she hadn’t thought about kissing him again since the break-up, but there was now a lingering thought in the back of her mind. Someone who hadn’t been there before. She was utterly confused, but she was trying. She was 17, for fuck’s sake, and what 17 year old girl always got it right? It was this mass confusion that had her dropping her eyes before offering a silent nod.
THEO: Theo was prepared to back off when she said his name, but then Zoe nodded. That was a yes. He instantly moved one of his hands under her chin to angle her face upwards as he bowed his head and kissed her. With his eyes closed and for the five or so seconds that their lips were connected for, Theo envisioned their lives. Their past flashed before him and their hypothetical future, too. They’d be high school sweethearts, go to college, get married young, probably have a few kids, and they’d be happy. Kissing Zoe felt like coming home in a way—like coming back to himself. But when he pulled away and looked at her, a sad smile crept on to his face. Something was tugging at his gut and telling him that unfortunately, no matter how much he wanted it, this wasn’t it. Maybe there was a place for them somewhere, but it wasn’t here and it wasn’t now. Damn it. “It’s not the same, is it?” he asked rhetorically, strumming her cheeks with his thumbs for a moment before he dropped his hands back into his pockets, “that blows.” His tone was almost playful but it did blow. All this time Theo had been lashing out and coping with the loss of his first love only to find that she wasn’t the solution to his problems. He’d have to find those within himself. He had to let her go...for real this time. “I’m always gonna love you,” he told her with a small dimpled smile, “and I don’t want to be mad anymore. Not at you, not at Winnie or Austin or anyone.” A beat. “Thank you,” he said quietly, and because he anticipated that she’d ask ‘for what?’ he quickly added a “for everything.” Theo inhaled deeply and when he released his breath, he released all the resentment and sadness he’d been harboring with it. Enough was enough. “You should get back to the party, your highness,” he joked, glancing at her crown, “your subjects are probably going mad looking for their queen.”
ZOE: There had once been a time in Zoe Puckerman’s life when Theo Beiste, especially kissing Theo Beiste, was all she could think about. She’d go to bed dreaming of her quarterback, wake up eager to see him, and spend all of her class periods doodling their names together. She couldn’t even begin to guess how many times Zoe Beiste was scribbled in her Algebra 1 notebook (no wonder it was the one math class she ever did bad in). He had been everything she wanted at the time, and there would never be enough words to describe how thankful she was for him. Their love was quick and passionate, but it would leave a lasting impact on her for the rest of her life. Theo had taught her everything she knew to be true about love; that there really was someone out there for everyone. Theo’s lips against hers, although brief, was enough to make her realize that Theo really wasn’t that person for her, and maybe he never was supposed to be. Quinn had always taught her that people came into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime... and maybe, just maybe, Theo was her reason. Some unknown force knew that she was going to need someone to be strong for her, and Theo had done just that. “It’s not,” she agreed, mirroring his sad smile. It was the most bittersweet feeling she had ever felt before. This was really it. They were finally letting go of each other, after all this time. “I’m always going to love you, Theo.” That much was true, but there was a difference between loving someone and being in love with him, and truthfully, they had fallen out of love a long time ago. “But? I think it’s time someone else gets to love you.” He deserved that, and so did she. She wasn’t sure who it was going to be for Theo, but she had a small inkling who it could be for her. It was her turn to reach up and run her fingers across his cheek, tears filling up her eyes. “No. Thank you. You saved me.” She didn’t need to say more. They both knew exactly what she was talking about. Zoe knew what he wanted. He wanted her to leave him in the middle of the street, drunk and alone, but she wasn’t going to do that. “I’m not going back without you,” she sighed, unwilling to give in on this. This time, on the walk back to the house, their hands didn’t actually touch. Zoe slipped her small palm inside of Theo’s on purpose, holding tight the entire walk home. It was her way of officially saying goodbye.

MMFD Fanfic Round Up Omnibus Edition: March - November 2019
Long time no see! *coughs guiltily*
I’m not going to apologize, but here’s some fic! (Okay, the truth is that I kept hoping I’d have something of my own to list in the round up, but I have to just suck it up, post the backlog, and get my arse in gear with writing.)
Since it’s been an age, there is a good chance I’ve missed something, a story, a new author, or a new place to post fic. It’s easier for me to focus on Tumblr offerings, but let me know if I’ve left something out (wherever it may be) and I’ll update the post.
Mega thanks to those writers keeping the fandom alive, and Happy Holidays to all!

______________________________________________
Part 1
It was a early Monday morning on the Nelson's house and Carter was still sleeping, school was definitely the last place he wished to go today. But then, as Rae was silently opening his door, he already knows he would have to go anyway.
"Honey, it's time to wake up" She said softly and then sat at the edge of his bed.
"Mom please, just 5 more minutes" Carter groaned, placing his sheet over his head.
"Carter, I already gave you 5 more minutes. Now wake up, your dad is making pancakes and sticky waffles as you like". Rae stated firmly.
"Hmm, alright" He sat down on his bed and then he stretched, with his eyes still closed. "I'll just take a quick shower".
"Alright, but don't delay, is almost 7:30". Rae informed her son. He nodded and then she head downstairs to help Finn with the breakfast.
So Carter stood up and as always in the morning, he placed his favourite album to play: Night Visions by Imagine Dragons. Then he picked up some clothes on his wardrobe and then he head to bath, but of course, not after sending a message to his girlfriend, Amanda.
Once he finished his bath, about 20 minutes later, he then head downstairs, founding his mom and dad chatting. He always loved to see how great his parents get along, after 20 years together, he still can see how his dad looks at his mom, the way she blush at the slightest compliments his dad always gives her. It's so sweet, but even though he's young, he can't imagine living such a great love like this for his own.
"Hi mom, hi dad" Carter gives Rae a kiss on the cheek and gives Finn an hug, before wenting to pick up his favourite mug on the kitchen cupboard.
"How this morning is been treating you?" Finn asked, knowing deep down how first days sucks. He's also in a first day, he got called to be DJ on the new radio of Manchester, the Supernova Tunes. He couldn't be any happier to finally reach his biggest dream.
"It would be better if the vacations weren't over". Carter shrugged as he jammed his waffles.
"But you'll see your friends, Amanda will also be there..." Rae smiled, trying to cheer him up.
"I know, I just wished to stay here, practicing my music a little bit". Carter explained. His fingers were all calloused after practicing music during the holidays. His parents good taste in music is always helping him a lot.
"But when you came back, you can practice as much as you want son". Finn comments.
"Your dad is right, I might sing to get along with you". Rae added, pulling a smile from Finn's face.
"I can even borrow your Oasis cd dad?" Carter asks.
"As long as you take care well" Finn started and then he glanced at his clock, he was getting late. "Fuck, is almost 8, I need to meet Francis on her office before the show". Finn got up, sipping the last of his coffee in a faster gulp. "You'll take a ride with me Cart?".
"Nah, I'll meet Amanda on the bus stop. Thanks dad" Carter grinned at Finn.
"Alright, I'll go now". Finn started to pick his things: cellphone, charger, deodorant and placed it all on his backpack. "Bye guys, I love you both".
"Bye dad, enjoy your first day" Carter stood up, giving his dad a tight hug.
"I love you dickhead" Rae jokes, making Finn laugh.
"You are a dickhead". Finn kisses her briefly and then whispered something on her ear that makes her blush hard. "And hey, I'll bring japanese food for dinner". Finn said briefly and then he left, riding the same scooter since he was 16.
So Carter finished his breakfast and then Rae offered him a ride, which he didn't refused.
"Bye mom, I love you" Carter gives Rae a kiss on the cheek when they get on the bus station, where Amanda said she would get in 10 minutes.
"I love you, send kisses for Amanda". Rae said as Carter opened the car's door.
"Alright, have a good day mom" Carter added with a smirk on his face.
After Rae drove away, he placed his headphones and pressed play on his rock playlist on Spotify while he waited for Amanda. All he truly wanted right now was to spend the rest of the day playing his guitar and singing his favourite tunes. With music he can feel alive, powerful. Music is all he have on his body and as long as Carter Nelson still alive, music is all he'll make.

The 100 6x11 Ashes to Ashes
This episode was the subject of a lot of hype, and not just because it is Bob Morley’s directorial debut, but also because there was a lot of speculation and expectations and rumors of different kinds, caused partially by the info that it would contain Echo’s backstory, and partially by a photo of a writing staff’s board with half-joke descriptions of episodes, including the one for 6x11 that read: “people sitting around, talking about their feelings”. It also has a very misleading title, which does not refer to what everyone thought it would, but which caused speculation that someone would die in it. (Someone did die, permanently or temporarily, but not any of the major characters.)
As it turns out, it is a solid episode that works as a bridge between Clarke’s return at the end of 6x10 and her upcoming mission to infiltrate Sanctum, with some important plot movements and setup, And, indeed, it did have several scenes where people were talking about their feelings, in one way or another, but no more than most episodes of this season. The most important one of those scenes was the one between the Blake siblings, which was a long time coming. Gaia and Miller also reflected on their role in the Blodreina years, and Miller had his best character moment in quite a while. Madi and Sheidheda about murdery feelings, and Echo and Ryker talked about the necessity and consequences of committing murder, before he failed in trying to murder her and then she murdered him, and we got an Echo flashback that was pretty good in itself, but its meaning and importance in the narrative is something that the fandom doesn’t seem to agree on and that needs to be analyzed. We also got an introduction of some minor characters from Children of Gabriel, Layla and Nelson, and Layla expressed some angry feelings for Gabriel about the death of her brother Xavier and the fact that Gabriel had lied to her for 10 years. Bellamy and Clarke were showing feelings for each other, as they tend to always do – not so much through words, but through looks, soft touches, and things that were left unsaid.
The opening scene with Madi and Sheidheda in her mind space had a wonderfully creepy atmosphere – the two of them sitting on thrones in a half dark room, lit by many candles, playing chess on with very weird chess pieces. The rooks look like the tower in Polis, but more interesting than that are strangely lifelike human figures in somewhat disturbing poses – one of the figures (bishop?) seems to be tied to a pole, another (pawn?) seems to be dying, while another (knight?) has been pierced by a spear. The king and queen are the only ones who don’t look injured or dead. Interestingly, Sheidheda played with the white chess pieces, and beat Madi with his white queen getting right next to the black king for a check-mate. (Foreshadowing, perhaps?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All of this feels very Star Wars-like, and while it may not be very original or complex as a story, the sinister atmosphere makes it work. While she seems to be acting fully evil to anyone on the outside, Madi is still resisting Sheidheda in her mind, if only by questioning his most extreme suggestions. It was enough for her to only attack Jackson so she could get away, but without trying to kill him, because she considers him innocent and “one of us”. The way Madi is using the pronoun “we” when talking to others and the fact Sheidheda asked her why she didn’t let him go for Jackson’s throat suggests that Sheidheda has almost as much influence on Madi’s external actions as she does, though, for now, she is still not giving him full control.
I really like the angles in this scene where Clarke wakes up, next to a very caring Bellamy – we get an outside look, close-ups, a shot from Clarke’s perspective, and a shot of Gabriel, who is in sad thoughts when Clarke mentions that the fact that Josephine is dead-dead and the drive is empty. Bellamy seemed to have been by Clarke’s side all the time, waiting for her to wake up and comforting her by saying he was still there. As Clarke gave him heart eyes while saying “You saved me”, Bellamy’s face showed a combination of love, concern and guilt, and for a moment, it seemed like he wanted to tell her something more, but stopped himself. It’s very interesting that Bellamy told Clarke he was sorry for not having protected her even though he knew she was a target. He didn’t know about the bodysnatching, but yes, he did know about the Children of Gabriel – but how was he supposed to protect her from being kidnapped by an apparently harmless guy who danced and flirted with her and had sex with her? It’s not like Bellamy is her bodyguard who constantly goes with her and watches over whatever she does? Unless… he regrets that he wasn’t there for her in some other capacity (let’s call it that) that would mean she wouldn’t have needed to look for someone else to hook up with…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some of Bellamy’s guilt was, no doubt, over the fact that he left his other people, including his actual girlfriend, in danger because, as Josephine pointed out in 6x09, he cares for Clarke more than for the others. When he asked how do we save those I left behind?”, Clarke tried to reassure him that he did the right thing because, if Josephine were still alive, not only would she be dead but so would everyone else – and she specifically named “Echo and Madi”, because Echo is who she thinks Bellamy cares about the most. However, when Clarke suggested going as Josephine to fool Russell and lower the radiation shield so the others could get in, Bellamy immediately opposed that plan and kept opposing it, until the decision had already become a done deal due to circumstances, because he wasn’t willing to risk Clarke again. When Gabriel outlined the plan and Clarke pointed out that the mission isn’t just about their people, Bellamy heatedly stated that for him, it is. But the plan was, in fact, no riskier – arguably less so – than the plan Bellamy went on to propose a bit later, or any other plan they could have come up. It was only riskier for Clarke. Which begs the question, when he said it was all about his people for him, was he mostly thinking that it is all about her safety?
It is great to see the character development Clarke has gone through this season, especially in 6x07. The things she went through in the previous 5 seasons, especially Mount Weather in season 2, had traumatized her and made her lose almost all of the moral certainty she used to have back in season 1, when she believed in trying to save everyone, instead of accepting the motto that everyone is just trying to save “their people” (which culminated in her views we heard in 5x01, that there are no good guys, and it is all “kill or be killed”). She has now realized that being a good guy matters and that they need to fight evil, while also trying to save all the innocent lives. The current situation is, as she pointed out, like a repeat of Mount Weather in many ways. Back then, Clarke and Bellamy were desperate to save their people, but they were also trying, to the last moment, to spare the innocents – such as children and the people who helped them, like Maya – but unfortunately, other people’s actions and betrayals backed them into the corner and put them in a situation where the only options were to let all their loved ones and themselves be killed horrifically and to let the evil techno-vampire overlords win, or to save their people by killing all the Mountain Men with radiation. They made the only right choice in those circumstances, but what they had to do broke them, strained their relationship and has haunted them ever since. It is very important that now they are getting a chance to have a do-over. Not because they were bad people then – they were not – but because they can now try to plan things differently and not get in a situation where these are the only choices. Of course, Josephine was completely wrong about Clarke when she thought Clarke would kill everyone in Sanctum – because Josephine didn’t actually understand Clarke even after seeing into her mind, and projected herself and her own views of people into what she imagined Clarke to be life.
Let’s get something right: Bellamy didn’t “revert” to a “pre-season 5 Bellamy” who supposedly doesn’t care about killing people from the enemy faction if it saves his people, or any similar BS I’ve been reading these days. That could not happen for the simple fact that this Bellamy never existed. Bellamy was never OK with killing innocent people, especially not children, or killing people in any situation other than battle. He would sometimes say things in anger, such as “I will kill everyone in this mountain” when he was trapped in the cage in MW (just as Clarke angrily said “I will kill Mountain Men, all of them” after the missile had hit Tondc), but when he got to see things up close and see the actual people who would get hurt, he immediately started insisting that they need to find a plan that doesn’t kill everyone. In early season 2, he tried to stop Finn from killing a captured Grounder thief. In season 3, he agreed to participate in killing 300 warriors that Pike believed were a potential threat to people in Arkadia – while they were sleeping, rather than in a battle, but that was during a time when he was particularly vulnerable and afraid of not being able to protect his people, but he both tried to prevent the others from killing the wounded, and immediately felt guilty over all of it – and it went on to haunt him to this day. In season 4, he was doing everything to save people, not just as an abstract group but as specific individuals, whoever they are, including potentially jeopardizing a future rescue for his people and himself by freeing slaves (people he didn’t even know, most of them from various Grounder clans Azgeda had captured) that were suffering in that very moment. What was going on here, again, is that Bellamy was very worried, angry at the Primes, and on edge, because he is worried about what the Primes and their brainwashed followers may be doing to his people, and most of all, because of what he went through thinking Clarke was dead, and now having to see her risk her life, again. I wish people would stop doing that thing where they pretend that saying things in anger is the same things as doing them. And, frankly, I can’t blame Bellamy for being frustrated with the non-Prime Sanctum residents for their sheep-like mentality, but if he got in the position to see them killed, I’m sure he would try to save them.
People hate on Abby for not realizing that “Clarke” was really Josephine, but what about the fact that Gabriel managed to fool Layla into thinking he was her brother Xavier, for 10 years?! Wow.
Who is more incompetent, Sanctum guards or Children of Gabriel? According to the poll I recently ran, most people think that both suck equally.
While we will not get another red sun eclipse, because not enough time has passed, I’m glad that the red sun toxin is an important plot point, again. Bellamy did some quick thinking when the CoG captured them, coming up with the plan to release the toxin to cause chaos. But instead of a massacre that would probably come from the release of the full capacity toxin, the plan that Josephine and Gabriel came up with involves a milder dose, which is supposed to cause, I guess, just people being more open about their feelings and having hallucinations? This should be fun.
We now know at the Adjustment Protocol is – Josephine’s and Simone’s experiments to have the Sanctum people go nuts and have strong hallucinations, which happened to involve them seeing the Primes as gods or angels (no surprise, since they were already conditioned to see them like that), but also massacres where the most devout would start killing the less devout. (We’re constantly learning new details about how evil the Primes are.) I have a bad feeling that we’ll see something like that after all, because things tend to always go wrong on The 100.
The scene with Octavia and Bellamy in the cave is one of the most important moments of this season. Octavia finally doing some serious self-reflection, admitting that she had lost her way and apologizing to her brother is something that I had wanted a long time. I don’t think she was saying that it was his responsibility to be her moral compass, as some fans have interpreted it – I think she was just trying to tell him how important he was for her. Bellamy was obviously very emotionally affected, trying to fight back tears, but at the same time, it’s realistic that he cannot fully forgive her immediately, and that he needs to see her change in action. His line “You’re my sister, but you’re not my responsibility” is a good start for a healthier relationship between these two. Their relationship was dysfunctional from the start, because Octavia was isolated for the first 17 years of her life and had to hide, while Bellamy was taught to see Octavia as his responsibility since he was 6, becoming her pseudo-father and devoting his life to her. Now they have a chance to try and have a normal sibling relationship, for the first time.
However, since I read the longer version of this scene from the original script, I’ve been really upset that we didn’t get to see all the lines that were cut. I wish we got to see these lines that show Octavia’s self-reflection on their entire relationship since they came to Earth (the only thing I disagree with is the idea that Aurora shouldn’t have had her) and the exchange about Medea – which shows how much Bellamy feels hurt personally by Octavia’s treatment of him. It’s not just about him being critical of her actions in a detached way, as if it had nothing to do with him. Which should be obvious, but it’s something some fans are trying to ignore.
The visuals in season 6 have been so amazing, and this episode has some really beautiful shots of the vicinity of the Anomaly, especially the shot with Octavia in the glowing forest and the Blake siblings in the glowing cave.
The first practical signs of Octavia’s big change is the fact that she is arguing, together with Clarke, in favor of sparing innocent lives as much as possible. And in spite of Bellamy’s problems with the plan because of Clarke’s safety, he and Clarke agreed that they should try to spare the innocents and do better “for Monty”. In season 2, Monty, Jasper, Raven and others were thinking “What would Clarke do?”, and now Clarke and Bellamy are wondering “What would Monty do?”
Raven, Abby, Jordan and Emori were all absent from this episode, but Miller and Gaia got a good scene where they talked about the guilt over the role in Blodreina’s regime, which Miller in particular has been struggling with, and the necessity to rebel against authority in other to do good (which, in Gaia’s case, means opposing Madi’s orders to save Madi and save people from her), and as Gaia put it, to “transcend”. This led to a nice moment where we saw the return of my favorite version of Miller, the one from season 2, who is fun and knows how to use his thieving skills for good.
Now that his wife is kind of dead and his daughter missing, Russell has become quite unhinged and increasingly acting like a classic villain. We’ve all been comparing Russell to Dante Wallace and Josephine to Cage, and that comparison made sense – but Russell is now starting to fulfill the Cage role, not just because he’s definitely the main villain now that Josephine is dead, but also because he’s the guy escalating the situations with his ruthless and not-well-thought-out actions which are putting our protagonists in danger, but which are likely to ensure his own destruction. (Dr Tsing was the cold, rational villain like Simone, and she also died early.) He almost publicly burned the Earthkru, calling them criminals, but now he wants to Echo as a host – as a punishment for trying to assassinate him? He may as well announce to the whole of Sanctum that he’s been lying to all of them for 200 years, and that everything he has told them about how it is an “honor” to be a host and that it means “being one with the Primes” was just BS, and that the Primes really have been preying on them all along. How long until a number of people turn against him? At this point, the only reason they are not doing it is fear of those who are still loyal to the Primes.
The angle and lighting even gave Russell a demonic look. He really is living up to his name “Lightborne” (Lucifer). There was a lot of religious symbolism and mentions of demons, in particular: Sheiheda is called a demon by Gaia, while Gabriel was considered a demon by Russell and the other Primes and was supposed to be burned at the stake (but Ryker released him).
Tumblr media
Ryker seemed like he could play the season 2 Maya role and do the right thing, but instead, he is the anti-Maya. At this point, I’m really annoyed by him and his wishy-washiness. He knows what the Primes are doing is wrong, but he still wants to continue doing it. He never wanted to stop the resurrections – because he benefits from them.
I can’t say I’m exactly upset with Echo for killing him – however, it’s not something she had to do, as she, Miller and Gaia would have easily subdued and captured him, and it’s interesting that the show framed it through Echo repeating a line by her mentor/abuser, Queen Nia: “Hesitation is death”. The flashback itself was good, though not very surprising – we knew that Nia was one of the cruelest people on the show, and we knew from Echo’s story in 6x04 that she was originally an orphan from people who were conquered and killed by Azgeda. The one thing that was a surprise was the twist that “Echo” is not even Echo’s real name, and that she was forced to take the name, skill, and identity of the friend she had to kill to survive. (I’m not sure that Ash was her real name, either. It could have been a nickname given to her by Nia, or else it would be too much of a coincidence that this was the name of a girl rescued from a burning house.) The show basically gave Echo a backstory that’s a mix of Don Draper, Mr. Eko and Grant Ward. However, the question is, how does this new information affect her story going forward? The fact she changed her identity means nothing to any of the people she is close to now. It can only be relevant to how we see her. Echo probably told Ryker the story just to stall, maybe garner some sympathy so she could stall more – because the real message she drew from it is definitely not something she would’ve wanted to tell Ryker (or it would have made him kill her), but I think that maybe she wanted to tell someone, but was too ashamed to tell any of her friends (even though they wouldn’t actually judge her), or unable to open up so much, so she told it to someone that she knew would either kill her, or would soon be dead when she killed him. I don’t think this flashback was just there to explain why Echo became the way she did, or to garner sympathy – because if that were its purpose, it would have worked – probably better – at any point in the previous two seasons. I think there are two things we can take away here:
A lot of people complained about Echo’s writing in S5, because viewers assumed that was supposed to be accepted as someone who has changed and been redeemed, without the show giving her a redemption arc. This was based on Bellamy saying, when defending her to Octavia, that Echo had changed and proven herself on the ring. The latter didn’t make much sense, because the ring was conflict-free, just 7 people living there and apparently struggling just with boredom, Murphy’s negativity and the lack of tasty food. And what we saw of Echo suggested that she hasn’t changed fundamentally, she just became loyal to different people. She was still someone who, when she was following Bellamy’s decisions, had the instinct to go for pre-emptive kills as the first option. Season 6 took all these criticisms and showed that they were correct, but that this may be a part of Echo’s characterization. In 6x02, Emori taunted her for being a follower who always obeys her master (implying that her master now is Bellamy) while Echo had hallucinations of her training as a child spy/assassin. In this episode, we see that Echo still believes and acts on those same lessons. It’s not surprising that Bellamy saw a different side to her on the ring – because he saw her peaceful side during the time of peace. Now, people have said that the fact she showed compassion for and mercy-killed the unfortunate man in the Offering Grove in 6x06 shows that she has changed. But that man wasn’t someone she had reasons to see as a threat. Echo was able to feel compassion in season 4, too – she looked sad when she thought she had killed Octavia, and was affected by Bellamy’s speech in 4x05 about the way that war makes people into murderers and that we can try to be different – but she was always able to repress any such feelings and go for the kill, even pre-emptively, whenever thought someone was even a potential threat, physical or political (such as the leader from another clan who suggested a council rather than Azgeda rule, and was immediately killed for that). This is something that has been ingrained in her too strongly. Is this going to play a role in the remaining two episodes? Probably. Maybe because of something Echo will do, or maybe it was just meant to explain why she killed Ryker, which may be important. (They could have tried to use him as a hostage or for negotiation with Priya, if she decides to turn against Russell, realizing that he’s putting them all in danger?)
The revelation that she took someone else’s identity may be relevant if Echo is going to have an identity crisis. In a way, she has always been an echo of whoever she is working for – she was trying to act like Nia after her death in season 4, and the biggest change in her post-Praimfaya is that she is now following Bellamy as her leader and is a part of Spacekru/Earthkru, people with very different morality and methods from those of Azgeda. And now we learn that she is also an echo of the original Echo. Who is she, really? She’s learned to be efficient, to kill without hesitation, to make herself useful and to be loyal, in order to survive and be accepted. But who is she, and does she have emotional needs beyond that? In spite of spending 6 years with Bellamy, Raven, Emori, Murphy, Monty and Harper, and in spite of dating Bellamy (for however long), she has never told them the most important things about herself (or only told Bellamy about her parents recently, after being forced to). Her relationship with Bellamy is both empty in terms of intimacy, and incredibly unbalanced – she is more like his loyal lieutenant/sidekick, not his girlfriend, and it must be now obvious to Echo that Bellamy loves and values Clarke a lot more. Why would anyone want to stay in such a relationship? Everything about Echo this season is showing that this she needs to try to find her own identity outside of Bellamy and finally get real character development.
I don’t know what plot significance the fact that Echo’s Nightblood will have, but Gaia’s reaction to that information was a little weird. Why would she be impressed with artificial Nightblood? She’s seen it before with Clarke. And we know that Grounders consider the idea of putting the Flame into artificial Nigthbloods a blasphemy, which makes me find this theory very unlikely.
Murphy continues to play his trickster role and play both sides, but this is far more understandable in his case than with Ryker, since he is doing it save Emori, who is being directly threatened by Russell. But his real loyalties are now much more obvious than they were in 6x08 – for instance, in the way he gets important info to Echo and tells her to pretend that she hates him, so he can keep playing the role of traitor for Russell. Clarke is right not to trust him and to fool him into thinking she is Josephine – just like Russell, she knows he would choose Emori’s life over everything else. But she has also noticed how angry he is with the Sanctum guards, so she is probably aware that he would be on her side if Emori were safe. Bellamy, on his part, understood Murphy when Murphy explained why he was doing what he was doing – and, after risking everything for Clarke, he isn’t going to hold that against Murphy. Murphy tried to be a good friend by telling Bellamy about Echo being in danger. (Bellamy’s reaction was quite subdued – I’m sure he does care about Echo, but the difference between that and his reactions whenever Clarke is in danger are obvious.)
Eliza has been amazing this season playing Clarke, Josephine, Josephine pretending to be Clarke – badly, Josephine pretending to be Clarke – a little better after getting coached, and now we get to see her playing Clarke playing Josephine – really well. I’m going to enjoy more of this. Not only is Eliza great actress, but so is Clarke. She has tricked Jade, Murphy, and then even Russell himself. Of course, she has the advantage of having gotten to know Josephine quite well in her mindspace. (I loved it when she told Russell, supposedly about using the neural mesh to stay in Clarke’s body: “Turnaround is a fair play”. I see what you did there). She has even managed to endure her toughest test – pretending not to care about Madi, when she sees her in pain.
Hopefully this do-over of Mount Weather, with a role reversal of Bellamy preparing  cavalry outside and Clarke as the inside wo(man), will go right this time and help Clarke and Bellamy resolve their old trauma.
Rating: 8.5/10
