March - Protection
Part of the Weekly Devotional Series
Tumblr media
Week One - Core Concept
There are countless things in life that we wish to protect, from our loved ones to our property, our reputations to our ideals. However, most things in life require a give and a take, in order to protect something we find the need to sacrifice something else. We might sacrifice our time to gain security for our families, or sacrifice our pride to maintain an ideal. What we are willing to sacrifice in order to protect these things can vary, but sometimes were can be surprised by how far we're willing to go to make sure they are secure.
There are times when what we wish to protect is beyond our power to do so, in these instances we appeal to the Other to act on our behalf and in these instances too there is an exchange. Something given and something gained.
Week Two - Mythology
The Combat of Ferdiad and Cu Chulainn
This story demonstrates two men that by all accounts should never have taken up arms against each other. They were brothers as well as companions, who should have been fighting back to back, not face to face. However, each is spurred forward by something they value even more than their bond and each other (which I think there is little doubt that they held their bond and each other in the highest regards, even after the battle begins). Firdiad could not be persuaded to fight Cu Chulainn for gifts, not even for the hand of the lovely Finnabair, but he is at last coerced to fight on the grounds of his wounded honor. When he believes that Cu Chulainn, himself, was the first to throw aside their bond and even to go so far as to imply he was a coward for not having faced him on the field before this point. It is for this he decides he must fight to protect, even at the expense of his brother's life or his own. For Cu Chulainn the price is similar, for he could have chosen to give up his duty to Ulster, step aside and refuse to fight his brother, but he decides that his duty is worth fighting to protect despite the sacrifice that it will demand of either his life or the life of Firdiad.
Week Three - Contemplation
What are the 5 things you value most? How many of those things would you be willing to die for? to betray for? how often do you go out of your way to honor the things you value? What things do you expect the Other to defend you from? What people or things in your life do you have a duty to defend? Against what?
Week Four - Integration
make a plan (mundane and spiritual) of how to protect and honor those things you value most, set aside a time (weekly, monthly, yearly, whatever is most appropriate) to implement that plan.

Traditional Art Supplies
Hey! Sorry to bug you. I adore your traditional art pieces and was curious as to what some of the stencils you use are from. Also do you use markers with those, your stamp pad inks, or both?
No bother, I'm happy to answer any traditional art questions.
I get my stencils from various craft websites, such as craftstash.co.uk, afth.co.uk, ilovemixedmedia.co.uk, I've gotten some from Amazon, type in 'craft stencils' and you should find loads. They're used mostly in card-making. Some brands I love are Tim Holtz and Finnabair stencils. I also got loads from ebay, great place to look.
I don't use them with markers, though I guess I could. I use ink pad ink using a blending brush, one of these:
Tumblr media
I have a set of different sized blending brushes, they're really good for getting the ink through detailed stencils.
Hope that's helpful!

Adding to my stack of writing WIP's: a retelling of the Táin but focused on Cú Chulainn's relationship with his body as a demigod warrior who involuntarily transforms into a grotesque parody of the human form when battle frenzy hits him and also someone sexualized from a young age dealing with the aftermath even though he's still too young to grow a beard. His relationship with Ferdiad is explicitly romantic and Finnabair is a major pov because i love her and think she has a lot to do with the themes i want to explore. Working title is Mine Own Sétanta

How would Medb react if all her 7 children came to Chaldea?
I wonder about that too because FGO heavily implies she hasn’t had any children because she says she doesn’t like kids and that she’d only have an heir with someone she truly cares about. She does not know how to love or be loved after being harmed and sought over, and she admits this in a voiceline
Medb is stated to be a young, college aged girl, so it could be that she was summoned at a time before she had any kids yet. However, my theory has been that her children were homunculi because of her ability to create warriors from her blood, thus making artificial heirs. Kind of like a changeling to tie in with her fairy blood
I don’t think she’d have any attachment to them if they did show up. I feel like many of the Maines would follow her around and do as she asks because that’s their mom, but she might feel more uneasy around Finnabair since Finna plays the role of a reflection of herself that she didn’t want to see

Some exploration on various characters of The Táin!
I'm leaning towards the two first images for Medb and Finnabair, I think I really managed to get the vibe I was going for, tho I'll work more on them.
I'm not convinved at all with Ailill and tbh I have no idea on how to tackle him.
And The Morrigan I'm going more for the shape on the bottom middle of the last image, but I still don't know what to do with her hair...
But it's a start!

Medb, to Finnabair: Then allow me to offer you some advice. Take a thousand naked pictures of yourself now. You may currently think "oh, I'm too spooky" or "nobody wants to see these tiny boobies" but, believe me, one day you will look at those photos with much kinder eyes and say "dear god, I was a beautiful thing."

Could we learn a little bit about your side DAO characters: Cadfael and Finnabair?
Tumblr media
Absolutely!
Cadfael Cousland was an excuse to romance Morrigan and to play the game in a more shrewd, mercenary manner. He begins as something of an isolationist: Calenhad may have been the one to unite the Alamarri, but as far as Cadfael is concerned loyalty to one’s tribe (in this case, his own family) is still paramount. His attitude shifts when the throne is within his own grasp.
Finnabair was an excuse to see what all the fuss was about re: Tamlen (10 outta 10 v cute can confirm) and to check out the Dalish. I played her as a quiet, but intense character. I also got to explore other schools of magic that I didn’t explore with Bree (like blood magic and shape-shifting), go through the game without pursuing a romance option, and to choose the option to die at the end.

Doodling Finnabair, Medb’s only daughter! She’s very gentle and hates conflict, so sometimes she doesn’t see eye to eye with her mom on things
