Kay:
1- No propaganda submitted, but I will point out his wide array of superpowers and that time he threw a jester into a fire, which is cunty in your humble tournament announcer's opinion
Mordred:
1-
killing your father, commiting treason, inciting a rebellion is inherently sexy and serves MAJOR cunt. and of course he's iconic for that one h.j ford illustration where he's leaning over his sword. plus, he's haunted. he's very luciferian, adjacent to that to a lucifer from paradise lost (their parallels are near 1:1, mary stewart also compares him to lucifer in the wicked day) he's also mentioned in dante's inferno in the 9th circle of hell in cocytus frozen in a lake for treason and betrayal against kin. so i very much argue that mordred is an antihero in the same vein
also this vulgate passage. enough said. he is so fucking sexy
"you're a man without compassion and without kindness, for just as the dragon is gentle when it starts to fly, so is it with you. at the beginning of your career as a knight, you were not too wicked, but kind and compassionate; henceforth you will be a real dragon, doing nothing but evil and killing all the men you can. what can i tell you? in one day you will do more harm than your kin have done good in all their existence. and i myself who am so old and should never have died a violent death, i will feel your cruelty, for you will slay me with your own hand"
he's also got the tragic backstory in post vulgate aka the may day massacre where arthur tries to kill him alongside other mayday babies in a boat but MORDRED is the lone survivor AND lives up to his prophecy in killing arthur. he is literally the embodiment of sin, the son who carries and represents the sins of the father, and is the father's consequence. mordred is a living consequence of arthur's sins. he's committed a lot of crimes and is commonly a villain yes but like i said he's got a lot of qualities to be a luciferian antihero and to be very very morally grey, there's multiple depictions of him that depict him as nuanced and idealistic and burdened by fate. his name is synonymous to rebellion. that is serving cunt. being against the status quo is cunt. see henry newbolt's mordred a tragedy where he says i quote "what then? to tyrant's ears, truth may be treason."
see mordred's song by blind guardian as well for themes dealing with being burdened by fate and destiny, he did not ask to carry his father's sins, he did not ask to be born. yet he carries them anyway.
"i never wanted what they told me to be, fulfill my fate and then i'll be free, god knows how long i tried to change my fate."
++++ norris j. lacy's mordred manuscript where he says "they made me what i am and blamed me."
sorry this is super long but mordred is the guy who serves THE most cunt of all arthuriana its not even a question its a no brainer.
Long live King Mordred!

mordred from mordred, a tragedy by henry newbolt
SAY IT LOUDER.
WHAT IS TREASON MUTTERED MY ONE MOUTH, EARNS ANOTHER NAME WHEN MANY SHOUT IT.
tis called rebellion.
I CARE NOT IF IT WERE. SINCE TIME BEGAN FREEDOM HATH BEEN REBELLION.
imagine your name being synonymous with rebellion and treason. THAT is the epitome of serving cunt. MORDRED'S MESSAGE IS SOMETHING WE NEED MORE THAN EVER. FUCK THE STATUS QUO.
KILLING THE KING LITERALLY APOINTED BY GOD, THE VERY IMAGE OF AUTHORITY <- SERVING CUNT

mordred being likened to lucifer, referencing his war in heaven against god, in mary stewart's the wicked day

vulgate lancelot, part vi
https://www.youtube( . )com/watch?v=7ZEqMqBLOOI&pp=ygUXZXhjYWxpYnVyIG1vcmRyZWQgZGVhdGg%3D (remove the spaces parentheses)
mordred in excalibur 1981, his iconic death "Come father, let us embrace at last"

the ever iconic image of mordred, illustrated by h.j ford for the book of romance by andrew lang

mordred and arthur killing each other in vulgate death of arthur
++++

the ray of sunlight in the wound is also mentioned in dante's inferno in canto XXXII, where mordred is in the 9th circle of hell. he's submerged in a frozen lake in caina, for treachery towards kin.
also just want to say that may day massacre in post vulgate is a direct parallel/reference to king herod's slaughter of the innocents wherein he tries to kill the infant jesus.

^ screenshot from wikipedia.
mordred having direct parallels with not only lucifer for his rebellion and war in heaven, but also jesus? as some fucked up antichrist? THAT is serving cunt.

Following a terrible event in Pennsylvania yesterday... Here is the moment that Marcus Simon Sarjeant fired six blank shots at The Queen during the Trooping The Colour Parade in 1981.
Her Majesty was unharmed and remained calm, as did her horse Burmese.
The man was quickly brought to the ground by a Scots Guard... assisted by a member of the public. At that moment nobody knew that he was not firing live ammunition... The guardsman should have run him through with his sword!

Chapter 10
Diagon Alley Part 2
Summary:
The characters read the rest of the chapter...
Notes:
BOLD = Bookquotes ITALICS = Parsel UNDERLINE = Younger Version of a Character
Harry looked down at his own sheet of parchment for the first time.
"There's unlikely to be any major differences," Lucius explained. "More gold if your investments are doing well and of course, you might be eligible for some more of your lordships."
Like the Black one, Harry thought to himself, when he noticed Lucius's eyes drift to his godfather.
INHERITANCE TEST OF HARRY JAMES POTTER Name: Harry James Potter Date of Birth: 31st July 1980 Magical Emancipation: 31st October 1994
"Emancipation?" Harry asked. "31st October 1994..."
"The Goblet of Fire," Hermione said.
Lucius grimaced. "By allowing you to participate in the competition - a competition for of age wix. To participate, you had to be of age, therefore you were of age."
"Huh... Then how was I tried for underage magic?"
"Good question, Heir Potter," Lucius smirked.
Parents: Biological Father: James Fleamont Potter Biological Mother: Lily Potter nee Evans Blood Adopted Father: Sirius Orion Black (Date of Adoption: 1st August 1980) Godparents: God Father: Sirius Orion Black (Ritual completed on the 7th August 1980) God Mother: Alice Longbottom (Ritual completed on the 7th August 1980) Family Gifts and Abilities: Metamorphmagus - Black Family Line Parseltongue - Peverell Family Line Mind Magic - Peverell Family Line Blood Magic  - Potter Family Line Magical Sensitivity - Gifted by Mother Magic Titles: Potter - Lordship - claimable now - no living heir - (Inherited through biological father) Peverell - Lordship - claimable now - no living heir - (Inherited through biological father) Black - Lordship - claimable now - heir Draco Malfoy - (Inherited through blood adopted father)
"So, I'm dead in the future," Sirius murmured. "Thought as much."
Both Harrys looked at him sadly before wrapping their arms around him.
"Not if we can fix it," Harry said.
Emrys - Lordship - claimable now - (Inherited through biological mother) Slytherin - Lordship - claimable now - no living heir - (Won through rite of conquest - 31st October 1981) Gryffindor - Lordship - claimable now - no living heir - (Won through display of bravery - June 1992)
"I'm Lord Gryffindor?" Harry asked. "How...? Oh, the basilisk."
"The... The WHAT?" Sirius jumped to his feet.
"I defeated a basilisk with the sword of Gryffindor."
He said it so matter-of-factly that everyone just gaped at him in awe.
"You'll find out all about it later," Harry said with a shrug, not liking the way they were all staring.
"You managed to get rid of it?" Sirius sighed in relief.
"Yeah," Harry said. He didn't want to worry Sirius and he certainly wasn't about to say - hey! I might be dead.
"Should we continue the story?" young Harry asked.
The goblin wrinkled his nose... You-Know-What in Vault seven hundred and thirteen."
"It really is no wonder your interest was caught, Mr Potter," McGonagall said with a shake of her head.
The goblin read the letter carefully... Very secret.
"Oh dear," Flitwick muttered.
Dumbledore's trusted me... but it was impossible.
"I'm amazed you remembered that much," Bill said. "It's intentionally designed to confuse you. Harder to steal something if you don't know the way to go."
The rattling cart... stalagmite and a stalactite?"
"That's the question you're going with?" Hermione asked. "Your first time at Gringotts and you ask that!"
Harry was surprised just how offended Hermione looked. So, he exchanged a look with Ron and when Ron rolled his eyes, they both burst out laughing.
"Stalagmite's got an 'm' in it,"... faster than blinking.
"They'd have had a job. The goblins would never allow it." Bill laughed. "Especially with all your lordships. And believe me, they know who you are, even if you don't."
"How?" Harry asked.
"They keep their own records of wizarding families." Bill looked seriously for a moment. "You know, Harry. You might actually get away with robbing Gringotts."
"R-r-robbing Gringotts?" Sirius looked like he was about to pass out.
Luckily, Severus hovered a calming draught over to him.
"Thanks Snape," Sirius said, no malice in his voice at all. Much to Snape and Harry's surprise.
How often had they complained... "One speed only," said Griphook.
"That's a lie but they only use the other speed for expecting bearers." Bill was excited to be sharing information he knew about Gringotts. Even if he couldn't share much because of all the secrecy contracts he was under for his work.
They were going even deeper now... scruff of his neck.
"No falling out of the cart, Harry," George teased.
Vault seven hundred and thirteen had no keyhole.
"That's pretty standard for none personal vaults. This one is either owned by a business or perhaps Hogwarts."
"Stand back... About once every ten years," said Griphook with a rather nasty grin.
"That's barbaric!" Hermione screeched.
"That's goblins for you," Bill said with a shrug. "Their bank, their nation, their rules."
"But it shouldn't be allow-"
Bill cut her off. "And who is going to allow or not allow it? Us because we're wix? We are not the owners or governors of the other beings, Hermione."
Something really extraordinary... but at first he thought it was empty.
Everyone was on the edge of their seats, eager to know what all the fuss was about.
Then he noticed a grubby little package... but knew better than to ask.
"That day, at least," Ron teased.
"Come on, back in this infernal cart... Dudley had ever had.
"I was so smug about that," Harry admitted shyly.
"Don't blame you," Severus said. "With a cousin like yours, I would be too."
"Might as well get yer uniform," said Hagrid
"Oh no," Draco whined, slouching in his chair, until his mother gave him a sharp look and insisted he sit up properly, much to Draco's embarrassment.
nodding toward Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions... Â feeling nervous.
"You left him!" Mrs Weasley screeched. "You left an eleven year old boy on his own on his first ever trip to the alley?"
Kingsley frowned. As much as his ears protested the sound of Mrs Weasley's screeching, he couldn't disagree with the principle. Harry Potter should not have been left alone. Anything could have happened.
Hagrid looked down, feeling ashamed. "I didn' think."
Madam Malkin was a squat... a boy with a pale, pointed face
"Must be Malfoy," Ron said.
"Hey! I do not have a pointed face."
"You sort of did at eleven," Blaise Zabini said, pointing towards his younger self who did in fact have a pointed face.
standing on a footstool... He had a bored, drawling voice.
"Draco! Where are your manners," Narcissa asked in an angry hiss. "You didn't even introduce yourself. Not to mention, I was not looking at wands. What would be the point in that?"
"Indeed, Mrs Malfoy," Ollivander said, nodding. "A pure waste of time without the wielder in question."
"Then I'm going to drag them off... I'll smuggle it in somehow. "
"He tried too," Lucius said. "Not the bullying his father part," he glared at his son, "but the smuggling part."
"One of the house elves caught him," Narcissa said, shaking her head.
Harry was strongly reminded of Dudley.
"HEY! I'm nothing like that muggle."
"You were acting like him," Harry said with a shrug.
"I can see the similarities," Lucius said under his breath, so quietly only his other self heard and choked on a chuckle.
"Have you got your own broom?... Father says it's a crime if I'm not picked to play for my house, and I must say, I agree.
"I did, did I? I can't recall saying that. I distinctly remember saying that if you want me to sign off on you being on the team, you better be in the top ten percent of your class. And preferably higher."
Know what house you'll be in yet?"... all our family have been
"Draco, darling, have you really not noticed that you're only getting monosyllabic replies? Perhaps you should have let the poor boy speak." Narcissa looked at her son indulgently. "I apologise Heir Potter. It appears my son was overexcited to be starting school."
"It's okay, Mrs Malfoy." Harry really couldn't wrap his mind around how nice the Malfoys were being.
imagine being in Hufflepuff, I think I'd leave, wouldn't you?"
"Now that was unnecessary," she tutted as the Hufflepuffs in the room glared at the blond.
"Mmm," said Harry, wishing he could say something a bit more interesting.
"I had no idea what he was talking about... Quidditch, hufflepuff, slytherin. I was so lost."
"I say, look at that man!"... He's a sort of servant, isn't he?"
"DRACO!" Narcissa looked ready to spit fire. "I did not hear that correctly. My son did not call Mr Hagrid a servant."
"Sorry mother."
"Don't apologise to me, apologise to Mr Hagrid."
"Sorry, Professor Hagrid." It actually might be the first time Draco had ever shown Hagrid an ounce of respect. "I really didn't mean it. I just wanted to seem... well, like I knew something."
"He's the gamekeeper," said Harry. He was liking the boy less and less every second.
"Don't blame you," several people muttered.
"Yes, exactly... ends up setting fire to his bed. "
Lucius pinched the bridge of his nose and stood to his feet. "It would appear, I also owe you an apology Mr Hagrid. Probably more than one. But I appear to have been indiscreet in front of my son and he repeated stories that should not have been repeated. I humbly express my sincere apology."
"Er... okay." Hagrid looked highly uncomfortable.
"As a death eater," he took a sigh, "I frequently said things I neither meant nor intended to be overheard by my son."
"You're admitting to being a death eater?" Moody asked, leaning forward.
"It'd be pointless not to," Lucius said. "Approximately half the people here already know."
"I think he's brilliant," said Harry coldly.
"Thank yer, Harry," Hagrid said, beaming at him.
"Do you?" said the boy, with a slight sneer... not sounding sorry at all.
"Draco! Where is your empathy?" Narcissa looked truly ashamed now.
"But they were our kind, weren't they?"
"You did not just ask that!" Snape growled across the room at his godson.
Draco merely held his head down in shame. He'd never intended his parents or godfather to find out. "You're probably going to be disappointed in me a lot during these books."
"I appreciate the warning," Severus said, although he certainly did not sound appreciative.
"They were a witch and wizard... What's your surname, anyway?"
Lucius closed his eyes and then got to his feet again. "Again, I apologise for being indiscreet in front of my son. He clearly repeated what he believed I thought."
Draco was horrified that his father had had to apologise for his behaviour twice now.
"But that is what you think, isn't it?" Ginny Weasley asked, her arms crossed.
"Not quite. Or perhaps yes. I - like many purebloods - disapprove of how much our society is being changed to accommodate muggleborns. And yes, there is a sort of prideful insolence that often comes with being a lord of an ancient house. An arrogance that clearly my son has in spades. Because we see ourselves as the gatekeepers of our culture, the protectors of our time honoured traditions and beliefs. But does that mean that I believe muggleborns should be eradicated or disallowed to attend Hogwarts... Perhaps in my most angry moments, it might. But no, I know as well as anyone that would not be the answer."
She looked like she wanted to argue, as did Hermione, but Harry shook his head. Lucius Malfoy would have to face his actions in later books. They didn't need to subjugate him to the judgement of those here before everyone knew exactly what he had done and had had the opportunity to defend himself. Just as Dumbledore would.
But before Harry could answer... "Nothing," Harry lied.
"Of course, he did," Hermione mumbled.
When everyone looked her way, she explained. "He never tells anyone how he is feeling."
They stopped to buy parchment and quills... not knowin' about Quidditch!"
"Only the best sport in the world," Charlie said.
"Don't make me feel worse... Look what she had fer a sister!"
"Worst muggle of the lot," muttered Snape.
"So what is Quidditch?"... sorta hard ter explain the rules. "
"It's really not," Charlie said.
"And what are Slytherin and Hufflepuff?"... a lot o' duffers
"HEY!" several Hufflepuffs cried out and Madam Sprout looked like she was considering cancelling Hagrid's invitation to her knitting club.
but... You-Know-Who was one. "
"That's not fair," Blaise Zabini said. "You can't black mark an entire house just because one wizard was an evil bastard."
"It's not just one wizard though, is it?" Ginny said.
"People have gone bad in the other houses too, Gin," Harry said calmly. "That said, Hagrid might be a little biased and given his life experiences, I can understand why. But perhaps, I should have been informed about the houses without prejudice. Problem is, you're all just as prejudiced as each other. The Slytherins hate the Gryffindors because they're Old Dumbles favourites, everyone looks down on Hufflepuff because apparently being hard working is actually unworthy, never mind being loyal, Ravenclaws are called a bunch of nerds and Slytherins are evil... so yeah, you're all walking stereotypes apparently. And because you're all prejudiced you actually allow your houses - or the expectation society puts on your house - to mold your personalities. Can you say stupid?"
No one knew what to say to that so they all thought it might be wiser to stay quiet.
"Vol-, sorry... Professor Vindictus Viridian.
"Really wanted that book too," Harry muttered. "Thought it would be great to curse Dudley."
"I was trying to find out how to curse Dudley... before yeh get ter that level. "
"You encouraged him?" Molly Weasley said. "He's talking about cursing muggles."
"Have you met the muggle in question?" Harry asked.
"Well..." Mrs Weasley wasn't sure how to continue. "His behaviour does not make it right. Two wrongs do not make a right."
"No, but a curse that prevent future wrongs being inflicted on me. I see that as a win."
"Me too," young Harry said.
Hagrid wouldn't let Harry buy a solid gold cauldron, either ("It says pewter on yer list"),Â
"And for good reason!" Severus huffed. "You wouldn't have the first clue how to use a gold cauldron. Not at eleven."
"I still don't," Harry admitted, with a cheeky grin, causing his potions professor to almost laugh. Almost.
but they got a nice set of scales... basic potion ingredients for Harry
Severus groaned. "Never ask for the basic pack. They'll sell you the worst ingredients in the shop!"
"Well... maybe that explains why I was so bad at potions," Harry said.
"No, Harry, that was because Snape hates you," Ron replied.
Hermione merely shook her head and said, "If you studied a little more, you'd have done brilliantly, I'm sure."
Harry himself examined silver unicorn horns... a birthday present. "
"My very first real birthday present," Harry said, smiling over at the half giant. Only for his smile to drop when he remembered that his Hedwig was gone.
Harry felt himself go red... sounding just like Professor Quirrell.
"She was a beautiful bird," Luna said sadly.
"What happened to her?" young Harry asked.
"You'll find out," Harry said softly. "I owe her my life."
"Don' mention it," said Hagrid gruffly... best wand. "
"Thank you, Rubeus. You are too kind," Ollivander said.
A magic wand... tingle with some secret magic.
"That was your magical sensitivity, Mr Potter. If you hone that skill, you might even be able to tell when a person near you is glamoured."
Harry smiled at Mr Ollivander.
"I imagine you'd be an impressive wand maker, with that gift," the man continued.
"Or auror," Moody said, not wanting to be outdone.
And just because he felt like it, Bill piped up, "It's useful for Curse Breaking too."
"Good afternoon," said a soft voice... Harry Potter. "
"That's not creepy at all," Fred told the two Georges.
It wasn't a question... it's really the wand that chooses the wizard, of course. "
"Do you really remember every wand you've ever sold, Mr Ollivander," young Percy asked eagerly.
"Indeed. They are my children. My pride. My joy. With each wand I sell, I help let magic loose on the world. Of course, sometimes, I come to regret it. But often, so often, I am delighted by the results."
"Which wands have you re-"
"PERCY! You can't ask that!" Mrs Weasley looked horrified.
"It's okay, Mrs Weasley. I have a feeling we're about to find out." He pointed towards the book as it began reading once more.
Mr. Ollivander had come so close... "I'm sorry to say I sold the wand that did it," he said softly.
"And I sincerely meant it, Mr Potter."
"I know. Thank you."
"Thirteen-and-a-half inches... "But you don't use them?" said Mr. Ollivander sharply.
"Very dangerous to use a broken wand," he said just as sharply.
"Oh, no, sir," said Hagrid quickly... another wizard's wand."
"Too often people forget their wandlore. Passing on family wands... It's okay for a spare wand or a practice wand before Hogwarts but certainly not as your main wand."
Harry suddenly realized that the tape measure... the happier he seemed to become.
"Bloody hell, Harry! Just how many wands did you try?"
"Almost the whole shop," Harry muttered.
Ollivander merely laughed. "Not quite. Many of the wands in my shop would not have coped with your power, even if you had a block."
He glared momentarily at Albus. Disappointment clear in his eyes.
"Tricky customer, eh?... "but what's curious?"
"I remember thinking how wonderful your manners were. Wrote and told Dumbledore I thought so!"
Mr. Ollivander fixed Harry with his pale stare... gave you that scar. "
"Brother wands?" several of the younger ones asked, confused.
"That's insanely rare," Bill remarked.
"I've only heard of a handful of brother wands," Ollivander agreed. "And never in the hands of enemies."
"Why?" young Ron asked.
"Because they will not fight each other," Ollivander said. "I should have known... Right in that moment, I should have known that Lady Magic did not want you to fight him."
He shook his head. "I should have known and I should have warned you."
"Not fight him?" Harry asked. "How could I not?"
"I do not know what Lady Magic intended. I only know that she sought not war but peace."
Harry swallowed... terrible, yes, but great. "
"What a terrible thing to say," young Mrs Weasley said.
"Why?" Harry asked, bemused. "It's the truth, isn't it? If you ignore the right and wrong of it. Ignore the good and evil and morality of the whole thing and just look at the magic, he's not wrong. Voldie performed feats of magic most would never even consider, achieved things that others would have thought impossible."
"But he shouldn-" Hermione started.
"Of course, he shouldn't have. No one is disputing that. Yes. What he did was wrong but the magic, yeah, it was impressive."
Dumbledore nodded. He could see Harry's point of view and honestly agreed with him. "Objectively yes, he was an incredible wizard."
Hermione's eyes bulged.
"Professor, I think you just broke Hermione," Ron said.
Harry shivered... tapped him on the shoulder.
"Sorry. Had a lot to think about."
"Of course, yer did. I understood that," Hagrid smiled at him.
"Got time fer a bite to eat... How can they expect great things?
"Oh Harry," Hermione and Mrs Weasley said in tandem.
I'm famous... the night my parents died."
"It was too heavy a burden," Albus said quietly. "I really was trying to spare you from it. I know I failed miserably putting you with your aunt and uncle but I really did think I could spare you from the expectations of the wizarding world. For a little while at least."
"I know, sir. Had to face them eventually though," Harry said with a shrug.
Hagrid leaned across the table... still do, 'smatter of fact."
"That was a nice thing to say, Hagrid," Sprout said.
Hagrid helped Harry on to the train... Hagrid had gone.
"You didn't just apparate on a busy platform," Madam Bones said, "with a broken wand and no license?"
"Er..."

The two were he is young I believe are from Fire and Sword, 1981. He was like 24-25 years old. Such baby.
I'm not sure where the other two are from, I found them on pinterest lmao. The one where he is standing I thinkkkk is from a tv show in the 80s called Derrick or the Old Fox. Pinterest doesnt like to show me where the photos are from. Maybe... I gotta do my research, I'm sorryyyy. I live in the states so most European shows are not very visable to me.
If I'm wrong, someone pls correct me. đ

Favorite Over All the Decades - Week 13, Oct 3 2023
The list of contenders for this poll will update as the results roll in.
1930s - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
1940s - Fantasia (1940)
1950s - Alice in Wonderland (1951)
1960s - One Hundred and one Dalmatians (1961)
1970s - The Aristocats (1970)
1980s - The Great Mouse Detective (1986)
1990s - Mulan (1998)
2000s - The Emperorâs New Groove (2000)
2010s - Tangled (2010)
2020-2022 - Encanto (2021)
Overall Winner: Mulan (1998)
The NEW 2020s poll, with the winners from 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 as the contenders, will start January 1, 2024.
If the overall 2020s movie winner changes, I will then hold a new decades poll on January 8, 2024.
The 2020s poll from 2024 and onward (lol) will just have the top movie from each year go against the new ones. If we run out of slots available for all the new movies with the previous winners, I will hold a poll with just the new movies, get a winner, and then run it against the old year winners of the 2020s.
If I remember to run this tournament into the 2030s, I will do an Over the Centuries poll comparing the favorite of one century of Disney animation to another :).
My main blog is @deathsmallcaps and my art blog is @patheticbatman if curiosity strikes you.
Iâm pretty sure there is another poll going on like this, Iâm just running this one for my own amusement, and because I like to think about these in terms of decades.

Ironmaster (1983) Review
Set at the dawn of history, a tribeâs discovery of iron weapons sparks a struggle for survival and control over this newfound power. Director Umberto Lenzi crafts a raw, prehistoric adventure that tries to cash-in on Quest for Fire (1981) with its sparse landscapes and gritty tone.It leans more toward Thor the Conqueror (1983), Sword of the Barbarians (1982) (with Peter McCoy AKA Pietro Torrisi)âŚ

Another Taito Arcade Archives Sale Starts Today, Celebrating Darius Day

It seems like people appreciated the heads-up last time, so let's do this again. Hamster and Taito are having another sale on some Arcade Archives games for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, this time using Darius Day as an excuse. Don't worry, even if you don't observe that holiday you can enjoy these savings. It's ten games again, and this time it's a 50% off sale. If you're in the United States, that means these are just $3.99 each. Wow! That's a nice deal. Reminder: Arcade Archives releases rarely go on sale more than once, so if you don't buy them now the odds are good you'll never see them this cheap again. Let's look at the included games this time.
Darius (Also Seen In Darius Cozmic Collection Arcade)

The reason for the season, Darius kicks off Taito's most successful and prolific venture into the horizontal shoot 'em up genre. Well-known for its ultra-wide display and distinctive sea life-inspired enemies, Darius remains an enjoyable and challenging shooter to this day. Note this version is slightly different in terms of options and features compared to the one included in the M2-developed Cozmic Collection.
Darius II (Also Seen In Darius Cozmic Collection Arcade & Taito Milestones 2)

The sequel to Darius, sometimes known as Sagaia, delivers another heaping helping of intense shooting action. This version allows you to play the ultra-wide three-screen version of the game, setting it apart from the one found in the Cozmic Collection. More cool shooting action for those who appreciate that sort of dish. I always wanted a thing called tuna sashimi!
Megablast

Another horizontal shooter, this one somewhat lesser known than Darius. Megablast came out in 1989 and its main gimmick is that you start with four options surrounding your ship, giving you quite a bit of initial fire power. Each one can be powered up by collecting orbs, and you can eventually get quite the waves of death going in every direction. The enemies come at you just as hard, though. A little zany and not incredibly well-balanced, but amusing enough.
The Legend of Kage (Also Seen In Taito Milestones 2)

Look, some of these have nothing to do with Darius. Not much to be done about that. This is Taito's famous game about a ninja that can pretty much jump over trees in a single bound. Fling shuriken in every direction, use your sword to deflect attacks and make in-close kills, and rescue the princess until she's kidnapped again. Fight, Kage! For everlasting peace!
Sea Fighter Poseidon

This is another horizontal shooter, but it's a quirky one. Released in 1984, Sea Fighter Poseidon sees you riding an undersea sled of sorts, firing torpedoes at enemies and picking up hostages. Your sled has limited fuel, and the only way to get more is to pick off an enemy sledder without destroying their craft. You can then eject from your sled and steal theirs. That's nifty. It has that early Taito feel to it, and I always appreciate that.
High Way Race

A 1984 vertical driving game that calls to mind things like Bump 'n Jump or Spy Hunter. You need to drive as far as you can on your tank of fuel, avoiding traffic and other obstacles as you go. You can brake, and you can jump. When you reach the end of each course, you'll need to do both of those to finish it. You'll have to refuel along the way by sidling up to a fuel truck. Any collisions will cost you a bit of your tank, and once it's empty you're done. A little clunky, but decent enough.
Space Cruiser

Here's the old man of today's line-up. Initially released in 1981, Space Cruiser is a very early vertical shooter. Battle UFOs, survive asteroid attacks, dock your ship at a station to resupply, then take the fight to the alien's base. Quite a few phases for a game of its era, and if you're okay with slower-paced Galaxian-style affairs you'll probably like this a fair bit. Some real ambition on display here for a game of this type and era.
Space Seeker (Also Seen In Taito Milestones)

Speaking of ambitious space shooter games from 1981, here's Space Seeker. It's a bit involved! Guide your ship on the map to intercept enemy attacks. Red dots will bring you into a first-person view where you'll have to shoot the enemies down, while the bigger icons will have you going through a Scramble-style side-scrolling shooter stage. This is a very compelling game, especially if you have a taste for oddballs.
Water Ski

Similar to Alpine Ski, this is a sports-based vertically-scrolling action game. Move around behind the boat, try to score points, and avoid obstacles. A simple game by design, but one that evokes that early 1980s arcade feeling very well. If you like that, you'll enjoy this. If you don't, you might find this a little too primitive and limited.
Wild Western (Also Seen In Taito Milestones)

Another vertically-scrolling game from Taito's early years. Stop robbers who are trying to highjack trains, and then test your shooting skills in bonus rounds between stages. A 1982 game that feels it in every single way. Just like with Water Ski, if you like that simpler era, you'll enjoy this. And if you don't, then you almost certainly won't.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Excalibur I've watched numerous times, Monty Python since I was around twelve and Excalibur since I was about thirteen or so. The Sword in the Stone I saw as a child but haven't watched again in a looooooooooong time. Knights of the Round Table I last saw around eight years ago, though I first saw it on TV years before that. King Arthur (2004) I've seen on TV and online since I was a teenager, though it's been years since I last watched it.
Eric Rohmer's Percival I saw back when I was sixteen or seventeen but I never finished it, so I'll definitely have to rectify that at some point as I did enjoy what I saw, and especially having read the Chretien de Troyes Percival since then.
Shadow of the Raven, Sire Gauvain et le Chevalier Vert, New Adventures of a Yankee in King Arthur's Court, and Knightriders I've only seen this year since I joined the Arthurian Theatre Discord, and all these films are awesome (Knightsriders I've only just watched this evening).
In the Free Space, I'd put the 1991 TV movie adaptation of Gawain and the Green Knight which I enjoy a lot, and possibly the Robert Bresson Lancelot du Lac which I actually did like.
I'm interested in watching Merlin and the Sword, the 1970 Lancelot du Lac and Fire and Sword, and should probably watch Lovespell just to round out the Arthurian films released in 1981. The Green Knight....ehhhhh...I don't know...maybe one day, out of sheer morbid curiosity?
Over the years I've been very...cautious, shall we say, when it comes to films and TV shows based on the Arthurian legends (I'm like this with any media now that touches one of my hyperfixations--I've been burned too many times), and one of the reasons I joined the Arthurian Theatre Discord was to try and break out of that shell, and thus far I've had a pleasant time and seen some great movies.
never uploaded this, it was specifically for L's theater server but i ought to post it now because why not! anyway this is an Arthurian Film bingo mostly with movies i personally enjoyed, you can watch all of these and more for free on L's blog @queer-ragnelle đthanks for all that you do!
i already talked about some of my favorites in a different post, but some gems out of this bingo I personally want to give a shout out to are Shadow of the Raven (1988), Perceval (1978), and Arthur and Merlin (2015).
