Edelgard was 18.
Edelgard was 18 and held the entirety of her future in her hands. She was 18 and alone, 18 and scared, 18 and angry.
Edelgard was 18 sitting at a desk. Her desk. The walls of her room at the officers academy felt just as much protection as they did a cage at that moment. The wooden floors creaked under the weight of her chair.
Tomorrow things would change. Her and Hubert would walk alone, and together they would face down former friends turned foes as they carved their bloody path.
They would face the professor.
Edelgard leaned back, tears blurring her vision. She was doing her homework. Why was she doing her homework? Tomorrow in the holy tomb she would plunge Fodlan into a war the likes of which no one had seen in centuries. Homework was the least of her concerns.
She would have to face the professor.
Byleth, the stone faced mercenary who threw herself in front of Edelgard with no hesitation. Byleth, who spent hours carefully guiding her students to their fullest potential. Byleth, who sometimes got pale in battle after a particularly rough fight. Not because she feared her own safety, but because she feared that any of her students had received more than a scratch. Byleth, who patiently let Edelgard explain her nightmares. Byleth, who watched her be crowned Emperor of Adrestia.
The first person in a long time that Edelgard truly cared about.
She had tried so hard to avoid harboring any affection for her professor - for any of the residents at garreg mach. And yet the ashen demon had carved a place into her heart, dragging her students to reside there alongside her. Edelgard felt her throat tighten at the thought of raising her blade at Dorothea- at Ferdinand, at Caspar, at Linhardt, at Bernadetta, at Petra. Over the past few months their antics had grown on her, and now guilt lumped in her throat. She would turn her blades onto them, her kind and slightly stupid classmates. They would follow Byleth, and Byleth would follow the Church.
It made her feel sick.
Long past the point of caring about her homework, Edelgard walked over to her dresser. Flowers- mostly from the professor- were starting to shrivel in their vases. How poetic, she thought that they too shall die the last night I am an ally to those I hold dear. She plucked a flower from the vase- a single rose- and sat on the bed.
There was no point in trying to sleep. Anticipation and anxiety coursed through her. Tomorrow she would have to be a different woman. No longer Edelgard, the imperial princess of Adrestia. No longer Edelgard, the flame emperor, or Edelgard, house leader of the black eagles.
Tomorrow, she would be Edelgard, Emperor of Adrestia, the woman who tore the land from it's fragile peace for the sake of her own ideals.
She pulled her legs up, laying her head on her knees.
There would be no sleep tonight. For Edelgard was 18, and she had a world to change.
Whether it be by herself, or with allies at her back, the Emperor of Adrestia had work to do.

@whumptober Day 18: Blindfold | Tortured For Information | "Hit them harder."
Darkness. That was all Byleth could see. Even if he had his eyes opened, he couldn't see anything besides the darkness.
He wasn't sure what had happened; one moment he left the monastery, the next he woke up to darkness. Not only that, but his hands were trapped behind his back, likely bound with chains. Without his sight, all he could use were his other senses.
Judging by the fact that he was bound, he was likely captured by an assailant and brought somewhere. Maybe a dungeon? The smell of death and human waste could indicate that. But only Sothis knew where he was.
"Tell me," a deep, gritty voice spoke. Byleth tried to pinpoint who it was. Was it someone he had captured when he was a mercenary? Or was it one of the Slitherers? He wasn't sure. With the fight against Those Who Slither In The Dark still happening, he was likely caught by one of them. "Where is that Emperor of yours?"
Byleth's heart began to beat in his chest—fear, he could tell. Edelgard. They wanted his beloved Edelgard. But why?
"Like I would tell you," Byleth growled, "you plan on harming her, are you?!"
He didn't see the blow to the head coming. He grunted, falling to the cold, stony floor. Something wet and warm flowed down from his forehead, and he flinched in pain. Was that blood?
"Tell me where she is," his captor growled, grabbing him by the shirt and forcing him back in a sitting position. "And I will let you go."
Byleth didn't believe them. He was a hundred percent sure that if he did tell them where his wife was, he would still be here, as a captive. So he shook his head no, letting out a growl.
Another hit to the head, this time making Byleth dizzy. The warm wetness flowed down his face, and he could hear the dripping echoing in the area he was in.
"Tell me right now, Professor," his captor threatened, "or else!"
Byleth glanced up at his captor's general direction, his teeth gritting in anger. "Kill me if you must," he suggested coldly, "I refuse to tell you her whereabouts!"
He heard a dark chuckle from them, before he was grabbed by the collar of his shirt. He felt a finger under his chin as he was forced to look up, likely at his captor.
"And lose my leverage? If you're not going to tell me where she is, perhaps using you as a hostage against her would suffice."
Byleth shuddered, both from fear and from his captor's warm breath. He was going to be used as a hostage against his wife? No way. He wouldn't let harm go to Edelgard.
A loud crash made the area around Byleth shake, and he froze. Was that Edelgard and the Black Eagle Strike Force?
Apparently so, as his captor laughed. "Seems like she has arrived with her pathetic army," they said, "now that she's here, you're of no use to me anymore, Byleth." Their voice grew low, full of venom, as they said Byleth's name.
Dammit, Byleth could only think, fear striking his heart. Oh Sothis, was he going to die here now?
He heard a knife—or a sword—being unsheathed, and he flinched at the sound. He was going to die, and he would never see his beloved Edelgard and his friends again—
"NO!" a feminine voice screamed. Byleth's heart jumped—Edelgard.
He heard the knife or sword clattering to the ground, and he heard his captor's grunts and screams. He could also hear the sound of something wet splattering on the walls, along with his captor's screams dying down.
Footsteps echoed in the area, before he felt a gentle hand caressing his cheek.
"Byleth, my love," Byleth nearly smiled when he recognized the voice of Edelgard. "Are you all right?"
The blindfold was taken off, and Byleth blinked to clear his eyesight. Upon seeing Edelgard's face, he smiled. Edelgard was safe, and so was he.
"I'm fine," Byleth said, "now that you're here."
Edelgard couldn't help but smile, before she began to work on his bonds that were tied around his wrists. Once he was freed, she helped him stand. Byleth could see then that he was indeed in a dungeon—the Slitherers' dungeon, judging by the sickly green glow on the walls.
Edelgard embraced him, and he returned the embrace, before the two fled from the dungeon, hand in hand. Byleth was lucky to have someone who could keep him safe, and vice versa.

Hi all! Wanting to write something that I’ve recently gotten into and want to test out a roleplay with!
I had heard of the game series Fire Emblem and knew bits and pieces of the stories and games but not the full details, however that has changed with one game opening my interest in the world, being Three Houses.
I now want to run a test sort of to see if I'm capable of writing roleplays as this is fairly new to me and unlike other fandoms I'm struggling to still learn some lore because of how heavily detailed the world and lore of Fire Emblem is, regardless, Three Houses to me is a fantastic game and I'd love to roleplay it with someone, OC x CC in particular! And I can double!
I’m 23 and I want my partner to at least be 18+ as I don’t write with minors. I also ask you me semi to most literate, and willing to write anything more than one liners please. Open to Novella too as I match my partner's reply length, style and size. Themes will go down romance and adventure too with Fire Emblem: Three Houses having those major themes but I am open to other themes if suggested!
Plotwise, It's hard to guess other than either the basic plot of the game and routes. But I'm open the likes of an AU or to even try the Three Hopes as I am learning about that game as much as Three Houses.
I’m used to F/M pairings and I’m not against writing M/M though it’s not something I’ve done much of but I can do F/F writing as well.
Who I'm looking for varies but I can list are Hubert (Most desired), Bernadette, Hanneman or Claude.
In return I can write anyone though I will have to read up about them and follow thier support stories and plots to better prepare myself for the role.
I only rp via discord so feel free to interact with this post or reach out if you’re interested! Looking forward to see what we can discuss!
