He's not sure what makes this different. Besides the obvious at least, that this -falling asleep hip to shoulder, heads inclined towards each other with a thick quilt from Abuela draped scross their laps -hasn't happened in some time. But even while true, Buck knows he can't blame the current infrequency of their typical hangouts for the sudden strangeness, for why he slipped away from Eddie’s sleeping form to solitude on the back porch. Too much has gone unsaid.

He holds up his phone, just high enough for Eddie to see as he joins Buck on the back porch. "Couldn't sleep," Buck adds. Which is also true. Despite his recent endeavors, intense workouts paired with healthier eating and cutting out drinking entirely, he's less settled than ever, his sleep more variable. "Didn't want to wake you." The cowardly part of Buck had wanted to slip out, if only to avoid this. The interrogation, the staring.

buck feels like they have more questions than answers after talking with hen, but he isn’t exactly sure what those questions are. all they know is, despite turning down breakfast with chim & eddie, they don’t feel like going back to the loft. not yet, anyway. but they also don’t want to go anywhere or do anything.

which means, whether subconsciously or not, buck finds theirself pulling into eddie’s driveway 20 minutes later. chris is already off to school, & carla is doing her own thing now that she’s off duty, so the house is empty. but it’s exactly where buck wants to be.

letting themself in, they shuffle around the house for a few minutes before eventually wandering back into the front room & dropping into the chair tucked into the corner, staring absently across the room.

the smell of charred flesh permeated the room ( or what was left of it ) causing tara to bring her arm up to press against her nose. “he’s escalating.” they were called to los angeles when a file came across asking for help after a number of bodies were found throughout the city with far too many of the same elements on scene to simply be a coincidence. “this is the second body in half as many days. we need to find him soon or we’re going to have to worry about alerting residents to evacuate in case the fire can’t be contained.” up until today, they had all been found outside. turning to the squad member assigned to help the team, she nodded slightly. “do you think you could tell us what sort of accelerant was used? if any.” she paused. “i’m tara, by the way. i know you’re used to seeing all sorts of blazes, throughout the city, but please don’t hesitate to take a moment if it all becomes too much.” they may have been used to seeing some of the worst case scenarios out there, but that didn’t mean everyone could stomach such a state. if you haven't already answered, i've been so curious about the jaykon firemedic au 👀👀

maya my beloved, thank you for asking!!!!! jaykon firemedic kon au is sooooo. i have so many thoughts about it. the au is huge and expansive in my brain. without making this a huge long post with disjointed thoughts, heres the rundown.

clex grew up together and were besties and then partners and trans!lex had kon as an oopsie baby when they were teenagers before they had the whole superman falling out. ma and pa took kon in bc neither lex or clark were able to take care of him since they were teens as well, and kon grew up thinking of clark as more of a brother than a dad.

bc kon's a biokid and not a clone, he has way fewer powers and what he does have are weaker. this means hes not a superhero, but he DOES want to save people, so he became a firefighter. he did the volly to paid route, and went to gotham u for fire science. when he got on with gcfd he showed interest in becoming a medic so they put him through paramedic school. kon is a huge nerd and keeps a huge medic kit at home, which is also just a good idea in general bc he lives in gotham, and also he taught himself how to do stitches for funsies.

jason is still red hood, and one night he got hit hard enough to slow him down near kon's place, and kon ends up taking care of him. jason keeps going back to get patched up by kon, and he totally has a crush on him.

i just want kon to be a badass firemedic, and also kiss jason 🥰

My two cents regarding Station 19 707 and the Trigger shot scene with Beckett. I wrote this and kept it in my drafts but I needed to share it somehow just to get it out.

At the end of the day, even if they are trying to give Beckett his redemption, I don’t think they should have used this scene to reiterate it. Even if he went through it with his wife.

Everyone at Station 19 are trained paramedics, anyone could have administered the shot and also been there for Maya in a sympathetic way. We are yet to see that anyway. They are after all a “family” again.

This beautifully heartbreaking scene delivered masterfully by Danielle Savre where Maya has so much happening in her life should have been done differently. I don’t even think Carina should have been there either but just literally anyone else in the Station would have been a better choice.

If they wanted an “outsiders” perspective, they could have used the new Firemedic guy even. But using Beckett was totally a misguided decision.

When the scene came on and he was the one who walked in, I was ready to call it quits on the episode because I knew he was the one going to give her the shot, I couldn’t believe they made that decision and stuck with it without even thinking about it first.

How many times does one man need redemption. I think the scene between them at the truck 705 was enough? We get it, you’re the “good guy” again. No need to constantly praise him for it and put him in situations where he looks good.

Maybe getting these trigger shots aren’t as intimate in real life but this is television and the scene was set up to be intimate. Having Maya maybe even do it alone in her grief would have hit harder, like many say, they have to do them alone oftentimes which would have been even more devastating for Maya. And then have that conversation with Carina.

I just know, having someone that bullied you for the better part of a year, and apologising for YOUR part in it afterwards, was not the right choice for that particular moment. I know I wouldn’t have let that person near me even if doing it myself was the only option.

“Oh, you hope,” Chim repeats with an exaggerated lit to his voice. “Here I was thinking that you could personally attest to the experience given how much you’re a pain in my ass.” He is so, so bitter over that stupid, evil bracelet. He hates that it even briefly touched him. “But I guess not - I don’t think you’d be able to watch telenovela’s in hell.” Maybe if it were someone else, perhaps, but Eddie loved them more than he’d let on in the firehouse. Chim knew mainly because Buck knew and one of the few times Eddie left an episode on when the loft was largely deserted.

        "thanks, eddie.  but my brother and i will be fine.”   it was a nice offer but one that she had to decline, at least enough times as was generally deemed polite if he would still insist.  she and her brother had never really been alone in that big house of theirs, what with their mother having been a housewife.  so it would be a big adjustment, although she supposed that could be said about everything at the moment.  it wasn’t everyday that somebody just lost both their parents in the midst of an interdimensional war that no one but a handful of people really knew about.  

besides, neither of them were unaccustomed to feeling the emptiness in the cunningham household, regardless of how many people might’ve been inside.  “we’ll definitely come see you and shannon some time, though.”  she sighs inwardly, putting on what she hoped was a pleasant expression on her face as she says,  “i’m glad you guys are alright after all this.”
