Mattheo and comfort? like comforting Mattheo?🥺
comfort | mattheo riddle ♡
due to his childhood, mattheo has trouble expressing his feelings.
when he's upset, he has a tendency to fold into himself. it's a defense mechanism to keep himself protected, to guard his heart above all else.
at first, it was hard to deal with matty withdrawing into himself. you often wondered if you said or did something wrong because one second he'd be laughing and joking and the next he'd be completely silent.
but as time went along, you started to pick up on his behavior. you learned how to read mattheo riddle like a book.
when he starts getting dazed and distracted, fiddling with his fingers, tapping his foot or just straight up spacing out, you know that something's bothering him.
one thing about mattheo is that he hates being singled out. he doesn't like it when he's put on the spot. asking him "what's wrong?" was a one way ticket to him shutting down.
so instead you found little ways to let him know you were there.
mattheo's love language is physical touch, so any time you felt him drifting, you'd lean into him, rest your head on his shoulder, intertwine your fingers and kiss his knuckles to convey that you're here and it's safe and when he's ready to talk about it, you'd be more than willing to listen.
if he's having a really bad day, you'd know just by one look. he wouldn't have to say anything before you're enveloping him into a hug, smothering him with as much love and affection as you could.
he would especially love laying on your lap, not saying anything as you brushed through his curls, savoring the silence and comfort your presence provided.
sometimes you'd come into his dorm to find him laying on the rug, earphones tuned in to his favorite smiths album. you'd simply lay down beside him, claim the right earphone, and squeeze his hand because you're there for him, you don't need words, you were more than willing to to just give him space to simply be and he'd love you for it.
when the nightmares come and he wakes up sweating and panting, he'd immediately seek you out. mattheo would want to make sure that you're safe because most of his nightmares are of you falling into danger. it doesn't matter if it's in the middle of the night, you'd simply just wrap your arms around him and hold him as tightly as possible.
"it's alright, matty. it's okay. i'm here. i'm safe. and i love you. nothing can hurt me when you're by my side."
brushing the tear from his cheek, you'd kiss his temple and rock him in your arms. mattheo would listen to your heartbeat, willing it to anchor him back to reality.
it's the sound of comfort. it's the sound of safety. it's the sound of the girl he loves healing every broken part of him and making him feel whole again.

Trying to write something...
-----------------------------------------------
It all started with Elros wanting a cavalry. The Edain did not have any larger, or even moderately sized horseback regiment and the lack irked him. Truth be told, there was more of them that did not know how to ride, than those who knew, and there was not enough of the latter among any single people to make up one - but there was plenty enough between the three Houses, and the House of Bor, and the many disparate mortal groups that had wandered into Beleriand at some point or another.
The other indisputable fact is that, among the members of the high command, Elros was The Baby, and the general consensus was that if Elros wanted a cavalry he should have one.
In hindsight, this may have been the begining of a nation.

nonbinary steve who reads about being trans in a random zine in a tiny queer bookshop robin dragged him into and now he's having a full on gender identity crisis, because he's a boy, right? obviously he is. he's not a girl. when he asks robin how she knows she's a girl she just shrugs and tells him "i dunno dude, i just do" which really isn't helping, so now he's just reading every. single. thing he can about the topic.
and when he takes robin to a gay club, to get her a girl already because he can't take one more day of her lesbian yearning, he loves her but one more "her eyes were like the moon, steve. like the moon!", he will jump out of a moving car. and there, nursing a beer at bar, he meets someone; this super hot dude. or girl? a very attractive person. and they ask him his pronouns, and he tells them "just the regular boy ones" and they laugh and tell him theirs, and that's the first genderqueer person he conciously meets. and they're talking, and drinking, and then steve is slightly tipsy and then he's asking "how'd y'know?" and then the person has that same soft look, the same soft spoken "oh" that he had when robin came out to him. and they tell him, and now steve's crying and this stranger is holding them, because wow. there it is. this something that just feels right.
and a week later, they just breaks down on a bathroom floor, in the cubicle next to robin. and they're sobbing, and in tears they tells her, because they can't not tell her, but also they're terrified of her rejecting them. but she crawls over the wall separating the two of them, falling down and somehow managing to land on her feet. and she hugs them, and tells them that it's alright. she'll always be there for them. she'll punch everyone who's an asshole about it. she asks if steve still wants to be called he and they tell her they have no idea, but maybe she could say they instead? and she says that she'll absolutely do that, and now they're both crying and hugging, sitting on a dirty bathroom floor.
