This auraboa issue with the lore being (most likely) unintentionally racist is especially maddening to me, because the concept they seem to want to portray (based purely on the encyclopedia entry) is very similar to an OC I have, and so I can say with experience, it's incredibly difficult to convey! ESPECIALLY when you try to portray it inside a short story where you're cutting lines for word count (their forum reply mentioned they left out some lines to keep it short)

Instead of getting across the concept the encyclopedia entry seems to allude to, the short story just accidentally walks into like 10 racism rakes in a row and its truly agonizing for me to watch, knowing what i assume the actual lore's intent is.

encyclopedia quote: "Older generations of Auraboa existed in a constant state of communion with their fellows. They refer to this connection as The Loop. In this persistent state they perceive time and memory in a non-linear manner; their intertwined considerations for past and present events are such that it became difficult for a dragon outside The Loop to grasp the intentions of these ancient wyrms."

what seems to be the intention is that the auraboa are a hivemind that doesn't experience time the same way other dragons do- they experience past, present, and future all at once and thus cannot communicate well NOT because they have a different language, but because they aren't experiencing TIME ITSELF in the same fashion as the dragons! However, in practice, in the story, the auraboa seem to speak with words in the proper order, just haltingly, since otherwise the story itself couldn't work at all.

another encyclopedia bit: "The newest generation of Auraboa is not linked to The Loop in their waking hours. While they move through the world, they are less directly accessible and read as "silent" to Auraboa who are within the communal state. This disconnection has allowed the young Auraboa to experience time in a linear fashion, and with this new understanding they have begun to form connections with other species of dragon that have never before been possible."

The encyclopedia seems more clear about the Linear Time thing, and that being why they can actually communicate sensibly, but in the act of having a story where the older ones DO communicate with the outside dragons and get a point across, they've kind of not shown the reason why dragons and auraboa COULDNT communicate before! which is! a big thing!

If they'd implemented the auraboa speaking with everything in the wrong order instead of halting single words at a time, i feel like the intention would get across better. As it is, it just smacks them directly into the 'simple native' stereotype with a truly awful tripping into the 'having our kids be taught by outsiders' which is. a really wretched parallel, as many native people have spoken of the unimaginable violence of residential schools.

I feel like the encyclopedia entry Alone isn't nearly as awful (still not great, but not as bad) as the extremely poorly implemented story that managed to ddr dance onto a bunch of horrible tropes.

they were literally so bad at conveying the fact that the auraboa are a hivemind that is unmoored from time, that i see people misinterpreting the lore as auraboa having their own weird language that other dragons can't understand! there was not enough effort put into conveying the ideas they tried to convey, and what WAS put forward was literally chock full of the most unfortunate parallels physically possible.

When I say possessiveness, they don't want to hear how you will lock them up in a castle for the rest of their life if they try to run away from you. Whereas, that might be a fantasy for some but its not for Sag venus. They will purposely take the next immediate flight and be gone for good. What they actually want to hear is how you will chase them to the moon and back. And no matter where they go, you will always be there to embrace them with your open arms. All we Sagittarius people need is to feel grounded not caged.

♦️ Asteroid Lie aspecting Neptune could make very imaginative and fluent liars. Sometimes it won't make any sense but you will still believe them because they lie with such a honesty and projection that you are forced to doubt your own judgment. Their lies are very descriptive and they make them on the spot. They appear dreamy as if they are not lying but living their own reality. Sometimes it comes handy to them but sometimes it backfires when they forget what they lied about for no reason.

♥️ Aquarius Rising got nothing on Uranus conjuct ascendant. Look, I get that Aquarius is ruled by Uranus but honestly I can't relate to the stereotype when they say Aquarius risings have a unique fashion sense. Being a Aquarius rising and having Uranus in first house I personally think it fits the Uranus conjuct ascendant more. Yes, I like to stand out but my fashion sense is not that unique. I like it different but simple. My brother has a 12th house Uranus conjuct ascendant and he is a uranian more than me. He wears the most unconventional outfits at very wrong timings. He has a very unique fashion sense and he remains fixated on it until the last moment. Man... and he still pulls it off effortlessly. I could never do that.

♦️ Asteroid Sharp (5426) true to its name could indicate the area of your life where you excel the most and are quite attentive. You also learn and grasp those parts quickly. For example: Asteroid Sharp in Aquarius means you are good with electronics,technology, innovating things. In 2nd house could mean you handle money matters very well. In 10th house, you make profitable business deals, bargains and have a good eye when it comes to trading something.

♥️ Have you seen a Mars in 4th house getting angry? They are never angry. Well, never angry enough to be angry. But be careful just because they are not saying anything for the past twenty minutes while you are chewing their head off doesn't mean they are calm. It means either you are someone they can't cross with for the time being or they are thinking of hundred ways to kill you without getting into jail. Good luck bby, these people are damn calculative and smart. They will let you walk all over them for a moment but later.... oh boy you will not even realize what hit you. And trust me, they will have a strong alibi.

♦️Venus in 10th house 🤝 Get them a man/woman with financial stability. They themselves prefer to be independent and classy in a relationship. But no matter what financial stability is a must for them. Maybe not the first but definitely one of the top priorities.

♥️ Virgo Mars people are really fond of ropes, handcuffs, belts, elastic things and all. Idk why my brother keeps checking their strength when he encounters them. Hmm...sus

♦️ Saturn in 1st house could mean you were forced to grow up too early. You had many responsibilities on your shoulders at a young age and faced a lot of difficulties expressing your weaknesses. You might also be the person in the family who is looked upon and respected the most. No decision is taken without your consultation because you are considered to be the wisest of all.

��️ Pluto in 3rd house, don't tell me your school life was easy. Either you failed a subject, were bullied for no reason, had abusive teachers, teachers who always picked upon you, unstable attendance or your family could hardly afford your studies.

♦️Scorpio/8th house Mars and their gazes. God, please don't stare at me like that. I get chills. There was this girl in my class. She used to stare at people a lot, that too bluntly. We thought she was creepy. But later after knowing her, she turned out to be really sweet and pretty decent girl.

♥️ Moon in 3rd house, very very curious people. They need to know everything there is in this world until they are emotionally satisfied. My 8 year old cousin asked me where do babies come from? She also added, don't say from God.

♦️I don't know about other Pisces placements but Pisces venus, they do have a thing for foot. Trust me on this, I had a deep conversation about this topic with my cousin who is a Pisces venus and because I didn't want to go with stereotype judgment, I had to make sure it was true. But it can vary from person to person tho.

♥️ Saturn in 2nd house people could come from a poor household or used to be financially unstable. But trust me it doesn't stay this way throughout. They usually face many difficulties with money until they don't at all. Karma always pays off and most of the times they live a very satisfied life. Very down to earth people. They don't fear poverty either.

♦️8th house Virgo are suckers for hygiene and perfection. But can be quite freaky in bed. Or the complete opposite of both. They can also have a guilty conscience after sex or masturbation.

♥️ Chiron in Capricorn/10th house can be very hard on themselves. These people often feel incompetent when it comes to their professional life. They can be insecure and anxious if things don't go their way. For them being unemployed is much worse than being heartbroken and it can be destroying.

♦️ Saturn in 6th house placements have an unimaginable disturbed mental health. They don't show and it seems as if no one sees it either. They pretend that everything is okay and no one can tell that it is not. Sometimes they are not even capable to share because people around them make them feel as if they are not supposed to. SO WHAT ARE JEDI HEALERS LIKE IN CANON? The subtitle of this project was literally, “Started making it.  Had a breakdown.  Bon appetite.” because Star Wars lore is a mess of about five distinctly separate continuities and hardly anything has been devoted to this particular niche of Jedi worldbuilding.  I spent a few hours hunting down sources, most of which were just one or two lines, at most a whole entire single paragraph! of information, and not much on how Force healing actually works. This is fair, primarily the Force is about the emotions the user puts into it, that’s the core, central theme of what the Force means to Star Wars worldbuilding, rather than nitpicking details about hard rules of how it works.  Further, the Force isn’t full of hard and fast rules on a bigger scale, it depends on the person, it depends on their mood, it depends on whether it’s a Tuesday or a Friday, because it’s about serving core themes, not about serving a system of magical rules. That said, here’s what we know of Jedi Healers specifically in canon, both as a group within the Jedi Order and as an ability of the Force.  This post will mix together Legends and Disney/Lucasfilm canon, as well as include RPG books that are not meant to be sources of canon, because the whole point of this is to give worldbuilders some tools to start with, should you want!  HAVE SOME FUN WITH IT, PICK OUT WHAT YOU LIKE, AND BUILD UP FROM THERE.  \o/ KNOWN JEDI HEALERS: - Rig Nema (Lucas canon, Disney/Lucasfilm canon) - Stass Allie (Disney/Lucasfilm canon, as a healer) - Barriss Offee (Legends canon as a healer, Disney/Lucasfilm canon as working with healers) - Mill Alibeth (Disney/Lucasfilm canon) - Nahdar Vebb (Fantasy Flight Games canon, as a healer) - Vokara Che (Legends continuity) JEDI HEALERS ROLE IN THE JEDI ORDER: Jedi healers seem to be fairly rare and they were regarded as fairly precious:

(Jedi vs Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force / Legends canon) Note:  In this instance “Old Republic” = prequels era, and while this snippet is Legends, Rhinnal has been mentioned in Disney/Lucasfilm canon in The Rising Storm.  In the FFG books, the Jedi established a chapter house on Rhinnal for many patients that was still in use and had been expanded during the prequels’ Jedi Order’s time.  So, the Jedi have Halls-of-healing-esque houses on other places beyond Coruscant. Jedi Healers were regarded as the most sensitive Jedi of all:

(Wild Space / Legends Canon) JEDI HEALERS’ STRUCTURE: Rig Nema was a Consular Jedi, which was a Jedi that devoted themselves to the study of a science or diplomacy, where she was a dedicated doctor.  Jedi specializing in healing seem to often withdraw from any combat duties, as well as they fall under this specialized role within Jedi career paths.

(The Visual Encyclopedia / Disney/Lucasfilm canon) In Legends, the Jedi Healers worked with the MedCorps Jedi, as well as the were in leadership roles in the Temple’s infirmary and on worlds like Rhinnal and H’ratth.

(The Jedi Path / Legends canon) Note:  The Service Corps are tricky, because Legends established them just after The Phantom Menace came out, before even the second movie of the prequels had arrived, much less TCW or anything.  Which means much of the content that came later had a tendency to contradict itself, as well as they do not exist at all in Lucas’ canon, and they are only mentioned in deeply obscure reference guides in Disney/Lucasfilm canon (and no mention of aging out--which further cannot work the same way, as TCW and Dooku: Jedi Lost establish that 14 year olds are young for Padawans and that 17+ isn’t rare for Padawans), but have never appeared in any book or comic yet.  All of which means:  Feel free to use them!  Source material is a buffet that you get to pick and choose from!  But be aware that some things are fundamentally incompatible from one continuity to another, and the Service Corps is a big one of those. Within the Jedi Order, there was a sub-order of the Knights who practiced healing arts, called the Circle of Jedi Healers:

(The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia / Legends canon)      “Seated on the Jedi High Council due to her invaluable role as a Jedi Consular, Master Stass Allie is gifted not only in diplomacy and Lightsaber combat, but also Force healing. As a member of the Circle of Jedi Healers and overseer of the Medical Corps, she continues to hone her healing abilities even while deployed as a general for the Galactic Republic in the Clone Wars.” (Complete list of Force Collection cards / Continuity status unknown, probably Legends as it started in 2013) Not all Jedi had to be dedicated healers to work with the medical clinic.  In Disney/Lucasfilm canon, Barriss Offee often spent time helping injured Jedi, because she found healing to give her solace.

(Stories of Jedi and Sith / Disney/Lucasfilm canon) Though, in Legends, Barriss was more directly a healer, working under Stass Allie in the Circle of Jedi Healers, where she specialized in disease rather than surgery.

(Star Wars Databank / Legends canon) Similarly, when Mill Alibeth finds her place within the Jedi Order, at Yoda’s suggestion that she use her abilities for specialized medical and spiritual assistance for war-wounded Jedi, she’s not necessarily Master Nema’s Padawan, it’s not so formalized as that, showing that there’s a lot of flexibility within the Jedi Order’s studies and paths.

(Brotherhood / Disney/Lucasfilm canon) JEDI HEALERS’ ABILITIES: While Jedi healers focus on medical training, they also train Jedi in the main components of Jedi philosophy, like greater control and insight.  When Mill Alibeth begins training with Rig Nema, she gains greater mastery over herself and the insight she has into Anakin in their meditation together:

(Brotherhood / Disney/Lucasfilm canon) In addition to Jedi healers being rare, it seems like it was taxing for them to directly use Force healing, because it drained them personally.  While much of Kylo’s ability to revive Rey seems to come from that they were a dyad (and this would not be possible with other types of Force Healing, so other Jedi could not do that particular thing), Rey does do some Force Healing, where she must calm herself and center herself to do it properly, and it takes energy from her to accelerate healing. It’s not much here, she doesn’t need to recover from it, but anything more significant and likely she would have.  So, Jedi healers have to be careful about how much they give of themselves when healing others.  This is also why Grogu collapses after healing Greef in The Mandalorian.

(The Rise of Skywalker novelization / Disney/Lucasfilm canon) Another Jedi healing ability is the Healing Trance, which would accelerate their natural healing process.  While in this trance, because their heartbeat and breathing slow, they can appear to be dead to others, and they’re unaware of the world around them.  Depending on the climate, they can last anywhere from a week to a month within this trance, without outside hydration being given to them.

(Jedi vs Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force / Legends canon) JEDI HEALERS WITH THE FORCE VS TECHNOLOGY: The Jedi Order of the prequels seems to balance between technology and the Force, that both have their place in healing.  In the episode “Voices”, Rig Nema relies on medical scans to show Yoda’s physiology, as well as a tank of dark liquid (either a bacta tank or a sensory deprivation tank, both would be useful for Jedi who need calm and no distractions to connect to the Force) to help him, but it’s balanced with his connection to the Force being plumbed, it’s not focused only on technological means.

JEDI HEALERS HAVE TO WATCH OUT FOR: In addition to being extra sensitive, Jedi Healers would be spending time in places that were soaked in pain and suffering, just by the nature of injured people’s anguish.  Not only would they face the difficulty of dealing with a patient’s pain directly, Force-sensitive means being psychic, as in that pain literally soaks into the walls around them.

(”The Jedi Who Knew Too Much” / Lucas canon / Disney/Lucasfilm canon) It’s intense enough in places that have a bad accident and those feelings linger, it’s a hundred times worse in places where people are always in pain or dying.  Jedi Healers aren’t just subjected to the person’s suffering that’s right in front of them, but the thousand patients before them that have left their emotional imprint on the walls, the floor, the ceiling, the pillows, the bed, the very air around them. HALLS OF HEALING/MEDICAL WINGS:

The Medical Center and Infirmary seem to be located about halfway up the left-hand side of the main ziggurat: "Medical center and infirmary, staffed by Jedi Medical Corps.” (Complete Locations | Disney/Lucasfilm canon)

“The Jedi Temple's Halls of Healing were beautiful. They had lofty ceilings and enormous windows that spilled golden light over the blue and green and rose-pink walls and floor. Imbued with the Force's most gentle aspects, with love and nurturing and peace, they were full of perfumed flowers and green growing things, with the music of running water and the vibrancy of life renewed. They were the perfect retreat for those who were broken in body and mind, a place where the ugliness of suffering was washed away.” (Wild Space | Legends canon)

It’s difficult to get a sense of the size of it in The Clone Wars, but it seems to be fairly big, given the diversity of what we see of it, there may be more hard scientific areas and more gentle healing areas, both:    - Obi-Wan’s transformation into Rako Hardeen is in an area with multiple cordoned off areas with doors that can be fogged over. (The Clone Wars | Lucas canon , Disney/Lucasfilm canon )

Likely the same area in the episode “Voices”, it seems like it’s in an area of the Temple that’s a hallway away from windows facing the outside. (The Clone Wars | Lucas canon, Disney/Lucasfilm canon)

 Anakin and Mace share a recovery room, which has a different style from the other infirmary rooms, done in different colors and with softer lighting, indicating that they have gentler recovery rooms versus the active medical problem areas It has a window looking out over Coruscant, indicating that it’s near the edge of the ziggurat, likely an area for less critical patients and meant to promote healing. (The Clone Wars | Lucas canon, Disney/Lucasfilm canon)

 Yoda is put in the infirmary in an area that looks to be the same area, but also has a separate area for a bacta tank, which seems to be at least possibly similar to the same area Depa was in when she was submerged in bacta. When Anakin walks into the room (and later he and Yoda walk out), we see what looks like sky through a window in the background of the outside hallway, possibly indicating this was near the edge of the ziggurat as well.  (The Clone Wars | Lucas canon, Disney/Lucasfilm canon)(Kanan: The Last Padawan | Disney/Lucasfilm canon)

Hello Flight Rising Nation I have officially fallen victim to the dragon site and I now have an account :)

I'm just getting started but I will be working towards making plushie dragons, with my dream ones being the two below <3

Meet The Seamstress!

Quite a long while ago, a young wizard just kicked out of magic academy found themselves in desperate need of company. Their only companion was a very rag-tag old plushie that they'd had since their hatchling days, and in an effort to apply their skill, they decided to try and animate their own familiar -- and succeeded! (much to their own surprise).

The Seamstress was her wizard's beloved companion of many years, eventually joined by other familiars said wizard chose to animate- her best friend being Fidget, an articulated dragon toy. Together with her creator, Seamstress helped to make the dilapidated tower they settled in a cozy home. She loved to assist said wizard in daily tasks, and was especially fond of being a book-finder for them, trotting about the grand library and returning with one book at a time.

Eventually, the wizard found themselves in old age and at peace with the life they had led. They passed on peacefully in their dreams, and in doing so, bequeathed their tower, magic, and legacy on to their dearest companion - The Seamstress herself.

Finding herself imbued with her old creator's magic, The Seamstress strove to make a safe home within the tower for all the familiars within it. And when she found herself feeling horribly lonely as the only soft toy familiar, she pulled out an encyclopedia of dragon species, tore down some of the wizard's old cloaks, and wrangled up some of the more sapient familiars to come together... and begin the monumental task of figuring out how to work a sewing machine.

The Seamstress is the creator and unofficial leader of the Agate Wizard's Tower's band of familiars. Over the years she's made a sizeable amount of plush dragons to befriend (even if to the detriment of the wizard's old wardrobe, curtains, and pillows) and together they live in (relative) peace in their secluded little tower :>

Oc-wise, I also have (Drumroll please).... STUFFING!

Stuffing is among the newest of the familiars, made in the image of a hatchling to better conserve on the gang's dwindling fabric supplies. She's easily exciteable, overly curious, and not too bright at the moment-- but she's all heart inside her cotton-wool chest, and she wears it proudly on her sleeve.

Of all the familiars created by the Seamstress, Stuffing is the only one that has taken a very keen interest in her work. Unbeknownst to the rest of the familiars, The Seamstress has been finding herself at peace, just as their wizard was-- and after centuries of living and creation, wishes to pass on her mantle to another. Stuffing is currently her first and only apprentice... And, she hopes, eventually her successor.

Toy Dragons in my clan are -- I guess an open concept? Feel free to make one, though I ask that you tag me so I can see! :) My general rules for them are:

The Seamstress is the oldest of them, and the creator of all of them

The largest among them is only about 3ft tall. Guards are usually the biggest. More recent toy familiars are usually smaller, given dwindling fabric supplies.

Naming conventions usually follow sewing, knitting, crochet, or quilting terminology (i.e. Spindle, Spool, Thread, Thimble, Yarn, etc) But also can be anything.

Most toy familiars have a crystal, jewelry piece, or trinket inside their stuffing that acts as their 'heart.'

toy familiars must periodically imbue their heart with magic by eating or absorbing magic from spells, enchanted items, or other sources, to keep themselves animated. If they lose their magic, they will fall into a stasis-like hibernation, but retain all of their memories when they are awakened.

General materials include linen, velvet, cotton, silk, with wool, cotton, or down stuffing. Pebbles occasionally added for weight upon familiar's request.

As toy familiars don't hatch, typically what happens is an existing familiar goes to The Seamstress and is like 'i would like a baby/little sibling/friend' The Seamstress then helps them create a blank little 'first body' and animates it for them. As the new familiar grows into its personality, decides what it wants, and can communicate those wants, it and its parent/sibling/whatever will build it a new body to animate together, to its liking. The Seamstress then helps them transfer to this new body with her spells. As the new familiar wishes to grow, they can add more fabric onto themselves and shape themselves to their liking -- though this practice has recently become frowned upon given the lack of supplies.

Toy familiars are welcome to leave the tower for their own adventures as well!

Aberrant form of snake mackerel

Description:

It lashes out with its fangs, and tail. A hissing rises from its mouth, and then from the water around you.

Comment: What I enjoy about this one is not the way that the dark forces have warped it away from its natural form, but accentuated its original unique qualities. For an example, take note of the intimidating look of a real snake mackerel. Good eating I bet, either way.

How to catch: Funny thing, for requiring a trip all the way out to Devil’s Spine, this fish actually has a relatively poor value to inventory space ratio. Unless the wiki has been misled, its base price has been written at $50, matching the same value as the three headed cod which can be hunted right out of little marrow. Consequently, the method to get one of these for your own encyclopedia is not much different either. Haul or trawl at coastal depth, the time of day not mattering.

Tattered Mackerel

Aberrant form of snake mackerel

Description:

A tangle of ribbons stream behind this fish, its form converging around a shadowy head. A strip slides away, retreating to the depths.

Comment: Still wondering what trick of survival these strands are playing. Are they meant as distractions, detaching in the jaws of prey in order to save the main head? Or, could they be an aberrant way of spawning more fiends, fleeing to grow and mature anew?

How to catch: ^^^, with the obvious sidenote that this is the more valuable variant.

Defaced Skate

Aberrant form of pale skate

Description:

Bones replace cartilage and erupt through soft skin. A frightened new form begins to emerge.

Comment: Speaking of bones, that right there is the sort of imagery which rolls a shiver down my own. Fantastic job.

How to catch: This critter only dwells in the hearth of the Spine’s volcanic waters. Bring a suitable net or rod and start your search by dawn’s bright.

Aberrant form of ghost shark

Description:

A grinning maw turned upwards to the sky. Wing-like fins, ready to take flight.

Comment: A worrying foreshadow, very very worrying indeed. A creature in all visual ways meant for the depths, away from light, yet threatening to jump beyond the surface. Another one of deep’s warnings for what kind of new world it plans to replace this one with. More interestingly is that rapt was the adjective decided most appropriate. A clever double entendre that I hope did not go unappreciated.

How to catch: If you ditched your abyssal rod(s) before you arrived at Devil’s Spine, this where bad news arrives to tell you that you’re far from through using them. Ghost sharks feast at nearly the darkest depths, and are not picky about the time.

Twisted Shark

Aberrant form of frilled shark

Description:

Three tails that twist and turn. Three unite behind the head. Thrice the body that must be fed.

Comment: A delicious rhyme, whether intentional or not. An aquatic realization of the ancient three-fish motif, allegedly seen across many of the world’s major religions.

*other note- purely measuring by price proportional to inventory slots required to hold one of these, THIS is actually the single most valuable renewable catch in Dredge, beating out the other aberrant sharks and even the pale grasper at a whopping $50 per cargo square.*

How to catch: They lurk the Spine’s volcanic waters, only able to be brought in by hook and rod.

Aberrant form of volcano snail

Description:

Bony fingers extend though a membrane of mucous, feeling for a target. The frantic eye locks with yours.

Comment: An odd reminder in an odd place of the evolutionarily relation between gastro and cephalopods. What are you but another timeline’s vision of the nautilus?

How to catch: If you are of the same mind as me, this catch may quickly become more nuisance than wanted after you’ve discovered the species. Like the untainted volcano snail, they have a surprisingly poor value per slot, and take up a whole 4 units of space within a crab pot. They can be caught in traps placed down to 10 meters deep.

Kayla groaned as she fought with her luggage, cursing as her carry-on fell off her shoulder and snagging her hair in the process. The wheels of her suitcase would not cooperate with the grating of the elevator so she gave one last particularly hard tug, finally dislodging one of the wheels from where it got caught. After coming out victorious she hit the button for the top floor, carefully fixing the strap on her shoulder to free her brown locks. 

One may think she overpacked for her trip, but unfortunately the weather in Texas during the week of her visit was all over the place. She planned for the rain which was still downpouring when her flight landed, for the random heat wave that spiked temperatures up during her third day and went on until the end of her week there, which was met with a sudden cold front with extremely high winds. Sometimes she missed the sporadic weather patterns of her home state, but she was grateful to be back home. 

Sure, visiting her aunt for a much needed change in scenery to finish up the last round edits of her novel was nice, but she found herself missing her boyfriend with each passing day. They still communicated daily, almost hourly even, but distance really did make the heart grow fonder as she found herself counting down the hours she would be in his arms once more within minutes of taking off from New York. 

The elevator came to a stop and she thankfully had an easier time maneuvering her luggage, getting to the door of her penthouse rather quickly. Once inside she shrugged off her carry-on and left her bags at the entrance, taking her glasses off to keep them out of harm's way before promptly falling face down on her couch with an exaggerated sigh. 

As if on cue her phone went off from her back pocket. She dug it out and lifted her head to see the display, seeing a new message from her boyfriend. 

Of course he knew she was already home thanks to the security system he installed in her apartment early on in their relationship. He had wanted to install cameras as well but she was able to convince him not to after a couple hours of back and forth. She knew he meant well and just wanted to make sure she was safe, especially with him and his brothers essentially being New York’s superheroes, so they compromised - he was allowed to install a system that would notify the both of them if an outside door or window was opened. In return she was given more in-depth lessons on self defense (which were almost always cut short due to the two of them getting… distracted). He also taught her how to best use the new upgrades on her stun wand he made for her all those months ago. 

She smiled to herself, remembering their last conversation where he rambled about the possibility of adding in yet another upgrade for the extendable staff feature, even if she didn’t understand half of the lingo he used. He could read out the entire encyclopedia to her and she would love every second of it. 

Kayla sat up and put on her glasses to read his message as another one from him came through.

Her brows raised as she read the words. A surprise?

Curiosity bubbled up inside of her as she stood up to immediately see what Donatello had left for her. There it was, just like he said - a large purple gift bag with black tissue paper sitting right in the middle of her bed. 

She sat down on her bed and opened it up with a speed that matched her excitement. Underneath the tissue paper was several pairs of underwear in purples, blacks and grays, and the occasional pink… Oh, that’s a lot… Is that lace? Wait a minute…

Her phone began ringing. She answered the call without looking at the screen, knowing exactly who was calling. 

“Did you see your present, love?” Donatello asked before she could speak, the telltale sound of him typing on his keyboard in the background. 

She pursed her lips. “I did. Do I want to know why I’m looking at about thirty pairs of new underwear?”

“Twenty-eight actually. Enough for four weeks since I know you put on a new pair every morning and night, and enough to fully replace all your old ones I threw out while-”

“You did what, now?” 

Kayla promptly stood up and went over to her walk-in wardrobe, finding her underwear drawer completely empty. 

“You heard me. I threw out your old underwear and got you new ones to match my own color scheme, with some in your favorite color of course.” He stated, still typing away.

She blinked once, then twice. “And you did this because…?”

A pause and she could almost feel the eye roll he was doing on the other end. “Simple. I just really like you in purple.”

“Oh? It’s not because you hated seeing me in underwear that matched your brother’s colors?” She questioned with a smirk, knowing she hit the turtle on the shell with that observation. Donatello was too easy to read sometimes. 

Another pause, this time the clacking of his keyboard went hand in hand with his silence. “And if it was?”

“So I’m right.” She grinned. 

“What are you going to do about it?” 

She hummed aloud, walking back into her bedroom. “Well, I was going to suggest modeling them all for you…” Kayla teased. 

Donatello’s breath hitched on the other line.

“But you sound kind of busy…” She trailed off.

“I’ll be over in five.”
