The Op Art walls in the entrance hall to Mitzi & Zack’s Atlanta, Georgia loft was done with Washi Tape. The whole apt. was a proud DIY but the entryway took so many days that most people mistake it for paint or wallpaper. Would you believe that they’ve already moved out of this fabulous place already, and the next tenant had the landlord at to the lease that he wouldn’t change some of the decor.

There are tons of ideas here. To make this custom rug, Mitzi used carpet squares.

The pedestal is a plaster DIY made of cardboard post cement pour tubing and Styrofoam Christmas wreaths.

Bold, whimsical, postmodernism of the ’70s – ’90s style. Mitzi also collects tropical plants.

The low art shelf was made with stairs painted white. The shelves are held up by "old Beanie Baby Acrylic Cases filled with gold leaf or blue cement dye. All found on eBay."

The sofa is from 1986.

Her favorite things? Washi Tape! You’d be amazed what you can do. Killz primer for any furniture remodeling. And Flor carpet tiles; the limit is your imagination and they’re so pet friendly.

In its previous life as a school, the auditorium balcony, which makes up the ½ story and the upper story, was part of the old stage lighting and projector area. It now houses the bedroom.

The sideboard is from IKEA and was hacked with doors and circular hobby wood. 

Gallery wall called “The Wall of Whimsy.”

The first thing a guest will say to the others when they first see it, is “Come into the bathroom!”

Mitzi’s towel storage is an old entryway console she found for $50 on Facebook Marketplace.

In the guest bathroom are all pieces of Washi tape in various sizes (you can buy giant washi tape).

Since they only lived her for 2 yrs. and moved out, I would imagine that since they couldn’t take the walls, they’re busy Washi Taping the new place.

The pink mirror was DIYed with Great Stuff spray foam and Krylon “Ballet Slipper" spray paint.

She DIY-ed the trash can to match the bathroom, too.

The headboard is a painted piece of plywood cut by a friend.

The Monstera is held up by a stool.

A planter was made from half a disco ball.

The main bathroom is an homage to Mitzi’s love of the Colony Hotel in Miami and the Stylenada Pool Café in Korea.

Mitzi was able to buy a small amount of wallpaper for this project on Etsy.

Fixing the accessibility and permanency of the Grey Lynn Library.

I got some helpful feedback on my draft proposal about the accessibility and permanency of my design. Mainly on the use of rugs, the new oak flooring and the playpen being sunken into the ground.

Because of this I have enclosed and raised the play pit so it is on the ground level. It doesn't have the same clean look but it makes the change not as permanent and easier and cheaper to install as you could use a basic plywood to build and would not have to excavate the floor.

The first image is the sunken play pit and the second is the new raised play pit.

The next issue I have solved is with the new Oak flooring. Because I have chosen to rip out the old carpets and replace the flooring it would be expensive, as I would potentially have to take out the flooring underneath, whether its cheap plywood or original wooden flooring.

Because of this I have chosen to go with laminate flooring. The chosen laminate is cheap, easy to install, and you do not have to remove the flooring underneath as it is laid on top and won’t damage the underneath. The laminate also looks like the original oak flooring I had chosen, and not cheap and fake.

The chosen laminate is scratch resistant, water resistant, so won’t buckle, and is very strong. I think this is an easy and safe fix for the problem and stops the permanent changes.

The last issue is with the rugs.

The chosen rugs were not given much thought other than they should not block the walkways for wheelchair/pram/cane users.

To me rugs are super important for framing a room and creating and warm and cosy space, which to me, a library should be. Why Chardonnay Fans Should Consider Godello

Many native grapes have teetered on the edge of extinction, only to be rescued at the eleventh hour. The heroes of these local agricultural endeavors not only took a stand to preserve their heritage, but work to promote it as well. Godello, a white wine grape hailing from Spain’s northwestern region of Galicia and most notably in Valdeorras, is a noteworthy entry in this story. It offers rugged, river-tinged intrigue firmly rooted in its distinct location.

The revival of Godello began as, literally, a “REVIVAL” — which is an acronym for Reestructuración de Viñedos de Valdeorras, or the “Restructuring of the Vineyards of Valdeorras.” The program was spearheaded in 1974 by Horacio Fernández Presa, at the time head of the region’s agricultural office, and who went on to become a founder of Bodegas Godeval.

“A lot of people in the latter part of the 20th century were ripping up old vineyards, trying to plant stuff that was more productive, more in fashion,” says Steve Graf, co-founder and brand manager at Valkyrie Selections, which imports Godeval. “He [Presa] saw the opposite and said, ‘This is our heritage, and so we owe it to ourselves and our future generations to protect ancient varieties like Godello.’”

Godello’s Selling Points

Although Godello is steeped in tradition — Valdeorras has been recognized as a DO (Denominación de Origin) since 1945 — winemakers are not afraid to work with it in a variety of ways. According to AJ Ojeda-Pons, beverage director at New York’s Mercado Little Spain, “The best expressions of Godello … have been fermented in stainless steel tanks, and some others in neutral wood vats, or a combination of both. Some contact with the lees, not super-extended, imparts a nice complexity, too.”

Jessica Sayler, restaurant and wine program manager at Cúrate in Asheville, N.C., commends Godello’s “stainless steel version,” saying “the minerality, the basic things of the grape, really show through. The acidity comes through on stainless.”

An easier sell might be to compare Godello to America’s go-to white wine grape: Chardonnay. “The oak-aged Godellos are easier to sell. It’s easier to compare them to other Chardonnays,” Sayler says.

Ojeda-Pons has a more humbling personal experience relating Chardonnay and Godello: “The first time I had Godello was a blind tasting. Naturally, I didn’t guess it correctly. I confused it with a premier cru Chablis,” he says.

Graf, meanwhile, leads his introduction to the grape for newcomers by calling Godello “Spain’s white Burgundy.” “People generally know what white Burgundy can be, the profile of amazing fruit yet mineral …  kind of riding that line between richness and focus,” he says.

Despite its distinctiveness, Godello’s versatility can satisfy a variety of palates. Indeed, having asked several sources in this story for a familiar touchstone, a majority of them compared Godello to Chardonnay.

Where to Begin and What to Serve

Stainless-steel bottlings, like the two Valkyrie imports from Godeval, may be the place to start, Graf says. In these wines, he finds “bright, fresh green flavors and aromas, cut grass and wet stone.” The wines are “on the fresh, tangy side. Linear and long rather than broad.”

As far as defining characteristics, Eva Llorente Arconada, the commercial and marketing director at Bodega Viña Somoza in Valdeorras, notes the “typical salinity of Atlantic wines,” and a pronounced acidity that’s a hallmark of Galician wines.

Another of Godello’s attributes is its aging potential. “I think it’s probably a combination of minerality and growing on those slate soils that gives it a lot of phenological character,” Graf says. “The variety itself has a great balance of acidity and fruit, so over time it doesn’t become unwound.”

For more immediate Godello enjoyment, pair it with food. Seafood is a logical choice, but Arconada also recommends any creamy cheese as a partner. Ojeda-Pons also likes dairy with Godelllo, suggesting a pressed cheese sandwich. Alternately, he’d order pan con tomate with anchovies. Sayler’s pick of pulpo a la gallega offers a true taste of Galicia. “The pimentón on octopus pairs really well with the minerality, the dry, floral acidity, and the apple notes of the wine,” she says.

Of course, the ideal way to experience Godello would be in Galicia, contemplating a view of the River Sil that runs through the region. A little daydreaming never hurts, though, especially at a time like this.

5 Godellos to Try

Bodegas Godeval Viña Godeval Cepas Vellas

For Graf, this old-vine bottling from Godeval stands as “a true representation of the estate and what they’re all about.” Like Sayler, he’s a fan of pairing Godello with pulpo a la gallega. The classic dish is “seared into the memories of anyone who’s able to go visit Valdeorras.” Average price: $21

Bodega Viña Somoza Neno

“Neno” is Galician for “child,” and the wine Arconada selected as a starting point for exploring Viña Somoza’s range of Godellos. The Neno is aged on the lees for seven months. Average price: $23

Sayler’s first introduction to Godello was via this offering from Bodegas A Coroa. It’s a wine that lets Godello “shine on it’s own.” She finds plenty of white flower, herb, and citrus notes in the glass. Average price: $21

While Valdeorras may be Galicia’s best-known region for Godello, winemakers are also working with the grape in other areas. Raúl Pérez harvests grapes from Bierzo for his Ultreia La Claudina. Ojeda-Pons is a fan of this Godello made under flor, taking a page from the sherry book. Average price: $52

Rafael Palacios As Sortes

Sayler calls this Godello from Rafael Palacios “the most coveted coming out of Spain.” As Sortes is made from vines ranging from 35 years of age to over 90, and sees from seven to eight months time in 500-liter oak barrels (20 percent of which are new) before bottling. Average price: $58

Although Godello is steeped in tradition — Valdeorras has been recognized as a DO (Denominación de Origin) since 1945 — winemakers are not afraid to work with it in a variety of ways. According to AJ Ojeda-Pons, beverage director at New York’s Mercado Little Spain, “The best expressions of Godello … have been fermented in stainless steel tanks, and some others in neutral wood vats, or a combination of both. Some contact with the lees, not super-extended, imparts a nice complexity, too.”

Jessica Sayler, restaurant and wine program manager at Cúrate in Asheville, N.C., commends Godello’s “stainless steel version,” saying “the minerality, the basic things of the grape, really show through. The acidity comes through on stainless.”

An easier sell might be to compare Godello to America’s go-to white wine grape: Chardonnay. “The oak-aged Godellos are easier to sell. It’s easier to compare them to other Chardonnays,” Sayler says.

Ojeda-Pons has a more humbling personal experience relating Chardonnay and Godello: “The first time I had Godello was a blind tasting. Naturally, I didn’t guess it correctly. I confused it with a premier cru Chablis,” he says.

Graf, meanwhile, leads his introduction to the grape for newcomers by calling Godello “Spain’s white Burgundy.” “People generally know what white Burgundy can be, the profile of amazing fruit yet mineral …  kind of riding that line between richness and focus,” he says.

Despite its distinctiveness, Godello’s versatility can satisfy a variety of palates. Indeed, having asked several sources in this story for a familiar touchstone, a majority of them compared Godello to Chardonnay.

Where to Begin and What to Serve

Stainless-steel bottlings, like the two Valkyrie imports from Godeval, may be the place to start, Graf says. In these wines, he finds “bright, fresh green flavors and aromas, cut grass and wet stone.” The wines are “on the fresh, tangy side. Linear and long rather than broad.”

As far as defining characteristics, Eva Llorente Arconada, the commercial and marketing director at Bodega Viña Somoza in Valdeorras, notes the “typical salinity of Atlantic wines,” and a pronounced acidity that’s a hallmark of Galician wines.

Another of Godello’s attributes is its aging potential. “I think it’s probably a combination of minerality and growing on those slate soils that gives it a lot of phenological character,” Graf says. “The variety itself has a great balance of acidity and fruit, so over time it doesn’t become unwound.”

For more immediate Godello enjoyment, pair it with food. Seafood is a logical choice, but Arconada also recommends any creamy cheese as a partner. Ojeda-Pons also likes dairy with Godelllo, suggesting a pressed cheese sandwich. Alternately, he’d order pan con tomate with anchovies. Sayler’s pick of pulpo a la gallega offers a true taste of Galicia. “The pimentón on octopus pairs really well with the minerality, the dry, floral acidity, and the apple notes of the wine,” she says.

Of course, the ideal way to experience Godello would be in Galicia, contemplating a view of the River Sil that runs through the region. A little daydreaming never hurts, though, especially at a time like this.

For Graf, this old-vine bottling from Godeval stands as “a true representation of the estate and what they’re all about.” Like Sayler, he’s a fan of pairing Godello with pulpo a la gallega. The classic dish is “seared into the memories of anyone who’s able to go visit Valdeorras.” Average price: $21

Bodega Viña Somoza Neno

“Neno” is Galician for “child,” and the wine Arconada selected as a starting point for exploring Viña Somoza’s range of Godellos. The Neno is aged on the lees for seven months. Average price: $23

Bodegas A Coroa Godello

Sayler’s first introduction to Godello was via this offering from Bodegas A Coroa. It’s a wine that lets Godello “shine on it’s own.” She finds plenty of white flower, herb, and citrus notes in the glass. Average price: $21

Raúl Pérez Ultreia La Claudina

While Valdeorras may be Galicia’s best-known region for Godello, winemakers are also working with the grape in other areas. Raúl Pérez harvests grapes from Bierzo for his Ultreia La Claudina. Ojeda-Pons is a fan of this Godello made under flor, taking a page from the sherry book. Average price: $52

Rafael Palacios As Sortes

Sayler calls this Godello from Rafael Palacios “the most coveted coming out of Spain.” As Sortes is made from vines ranging from 35 years of age to over 90, and sees from seven to eight months time in 500-liter oak barrels (20 percent of which are new) before bottling. Average price: $58

The Chronicles of Tenaria: The Back-up Server

Characters: Mal, Hood, Tommie Nitishino, Issac Satlin, Ishmael, Vet. Songs; My writing playlist. (Wow, this will be the first ongoing Chronicles of Tenaria story, a nice intro to the world and Characters) Hood stood on his front porch, out looking the fog filled woods around his home. When he created Tenaria, he made it foggy, wooded. He chose that, along with the Log cabin home so that it would feel peaceful, isolated. His wife hates living in the pocket dimension, and instead lives in the real world, in the identical cabin, in the woods outside Tartalgia. He took a deep breath, he could feel something wrong on Earth. He felt another presence enter his world besides Mal. It had been a while since he last heard from Aaron, and it worried him. Aaron was very faithful to keep in contact, updating on any new threats he has seen. Hood’s scar glowed. He smiled, maybe it was Aaron coming to update him. As he turned around to face the presence behind him, he came face to face with Mal. “Hello again Hood” Mal’s hand was firmly placed on Hood’s chest, spreading the erroneous glitches through his body. Hood’s body froze, with only a slight tremor as the glitches spread across his chest like a big X, crossing over to his arms and down to his legs. “I realized something Hood. Unlike my weak brother who has to manipulate you people to do what he wants, I don’t.” Mal chuckled, the corruption spreading up to Hood’s head, covering his mouth. “I just need to make you a monster and unleash you on this world. You see, my brother wishes to rebuild our world. I don't. I enjoyed watching it burn, just as I will enjoy watching you tear this one apart. Mal stood back, watching Hood fall to his knees. The corruptions spread throughout his entire body. On his chest and back was a large, black pixelated X, spreading up his arms to his hands, and down to his feet. As he stood, Mal saw the glitch completely cover his mouth, and scarred eye. The former Universe Guardian growled. Mal smiled. “Come my pet, we have a date with destruction” …. “So you haven’t heard from your dad either” Issac took a seat on the fluffy green couch in the living room of Emma and Aaron. Tommie sighed, pacing the room back and forth. “No! And now you are saying Hood is missing too? Right after you say you feel two very dangerous new beings entering our world!” “You should remain calm Tommie. Bring your mind to peace. If, and I do mean if! If there is something wrong, you’ll need a calm mind to be of any use” Ishmael set his hand on her shoulder, his deep purple eyes seen beneath his hair. Tommie smiled slightly before sighing again. “Sorry, but my mom is worried, just like your’s Issac. What should we do?” “Maybe we can go see Stephan and Justin? I’m sure they can track them” Issac picked up his glass of iced tea that was set beside him on the couch side table. “Or we can consult with the Veterinarian. He might know who these two beings are, and as such give us a better preparation for whatever lies ahead” Ishmael motions for Tommie to sit on the couch. Tommie rolls her eyes and reluctantly sits next to her cousin Issac. “You’re right Ishmael. Sorry not sorry Issac, but he’s just smarter than you.” “Screw you Tommie. Let's just go see the immortal space redneck already. “ BANG! CRASH! Vet burst through the door, confidently walking into the living room. “Did someone say immortal space red-” his sentence was interrupted by his face hitting the flor after tripping on the area rug. Quickly, he stood up and dusted off his white over coat. “I’m okay. “ “We're you watching us or something Vet?” Issac questioned. “And you are going to put the door back together right? And clean the mess you caused?” “I’m a time traveler, I always know when people talk about me, and no son, I’ll get Livewire to come and do that.” Vet replied, leaning on his hooked cane. “So, do you know who these two new people are?” Tommie asked. “Nope” Vet answered. “Well, do you know where Aaron and Hood are at least?” Issac asked as well. “Ñope” Vet replied once more. “Vet” Ishmael spoke with much irritation, “I mean this as nicely as I possibly can, but what use are you right now?” Vet’s cocky smile grew. “Well young man-” “I’m technically older than you” “Son, you ain't even close” “ANYWAY!” “Right, younglins, I may not know who these new folks are, or where your daddies are, but I know where to find them new folks. “ Issac instantly stood up from his seat, “Can you take us to them?” “Oh hell no. They are dangerous, one is is Keypers Cove, the other is terrorizing Tartalgia. From what i’ve seen, it looks like both have company with them, doing most of the destruction. I can’t tell who they are, but I see how strong they are. Be careful kids, don’t go off fighting alone.” “Ok, well, it would be preferred that we get one more fighter, to make this an even four.
