TMNT PIA: character introduction - Donatello

Finally we’ve reached the fourth and youngest of the turtle brothers, Donatello. Donnie is a wood turtle, he’s 5’1” (At the start of the series), 14 years old, and goes by any pronouns (Genderfluid), biromantic/asexual. Donnie can most easily be summed as a sweet kid who is a bit of a nerd for science, maths, history, psychology and even literature. He’s also very sassy and sarcastic. He’s a little bit spoiled, having grown up being protected by three older brothers and also often uses the fact that he’s low-key Splinter’s favourite (Something Splinter will never admit to but everything can see this is the case) to get his way with everything. This however has resulted in his older brothers and father only really seeing him as being just this, the youngest, something Donnie is painfully aware of and is constantly trying to prove to them that he’s more than just the youngest sibling, and that he can be serious/mature/independant.

I would say this version of Donnie is very different from most other versions of the character we’ve previously seen in TMNT media. The ones I would say he is most like are Rise, Mutant Mayhem and 03, having Mutant Mayhem Donnie’s sweet and polite persona but is really sassy/sarcastic and even blunt nature, and 03 Donnie’s very friendly and kind personality with the same thirst for knowledge about anything and everything, combined with Rise Donnie’s recklessness and drama queen attitude. Let’s also not forget the huge undiagnosed autistic nerdiness.

Overall Punks Donnie is a sweet kid who can be a bit of a pain in the ass who loves his family, hates seeing others getting hurt when unnecessary and will not shut up about dinosaurs.

Some fun fact about the character

Donnie, just like his older brothers, can fight with any weapon, but he struggles to fight with two at the same time, because he prefers to fight with two handed weapons. Hence why he usually only fights with a bo, spear or even odachi. The bo staff was the first weapon the turtles ever learned to use, so while the older three spent most of their time learning as many weapons as they could (Though specialising in what suits them best e.g. blades, defence weapons and incapacitating weapons) Donnie spent most of his mastering the basics via bo. He prefers these weapons because they allow him more creativity and strategising in battle.

Because he’s the youngest and most intelligent he’s low-key Splinter’s favourite child and everybody knows it even though Splinter will never admit to it. Because of this, he’s a little bit of a brat who uses this fact to get away with everything, much to Mikey’s frustration. Whenever he does, Mikey will find some way to annoy him e.g. taking the last slice of veggie pizza (Mikey doesn’t even like veggie pizza, but he knows it’s Donnie’s favourite, so he does it anyway) jumping out and scaring him etc. and Donnie retaliates by annoying him back e.g. messing with his Netflix recommendations, taking all the marshmallows out of the Lucky Charms box etc. and it becomes a cycle that never ends.

He can speak twelve languages. He grew up bilingual in both English and Japanese (As did all the turtles, because Splinter wanted them to also know his native language) but Donnie started learning for whatever reason from boredom to actual usefulness. He learned Korean so he could listen to Kpop and understand the lyrics and watch Kdrama’s without the subtitles. He learned Mandarin for a similar reason, so he could watch Cdrama’s without subtitles and read Danmei before the official translations were released. Mikey would sometimes bring him along to meet with Keno, the pizza delivery guy and Donnie learned Italian from listening to the old Italian couple who lived next door to the meet-up spot arguing (And also from discarded restaurant menus). It mainly started off as insults and words Splinter doesn’t like him saying and eventually turned to full sentences. Overall, he’s fluent in English, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese, Standard Chinese, Cantonese, Spanish, French, Arabic, Italian, Swedish and even Gaelic (Scottish).

He does not feel fear in the face of danger, unless the situation becomes dire. This doesn’t mean he’s immune to fear, because he isn’t, he’s afraid of a lot of things, from more irrational fears like needles, the dark (Based on a traumatic experience as a child) and heights, to bigger ones like failure, abandonment and being worthless.

His snaggletooth is actually the result of an accident when he was very young and had just started training with his brothers together instead of on his own/with Splinter where Raph accidentally hit him too hard with a weapon (Made of wood) and knocked his tooth out.

Due to being a wood turtle, he has incredible enhanced long term memory as well as photographic memory. He’s able to remember things in very vivid details from what day it happened, who was there, step by step of what happened and how it happened, even what the place it happened in looked like at the time (E.g. was the kotatsu pushed against the wall or was it in the centre of the room? What was on the kotatsu? Were there plates on it? What was on the plates? Etc.) This resulted in him getting in trouble a lot for ‘lying’ when he was younger because Splinter didn’t understand how a child so young could remember all these things so clearly so assumed that he had to be lying when he explained in very vivid detail how Leo broke his toy velociraptor. He knows now that he’s just got really good memory and doesn’t question him or accuse him of lying anymore (He realised this when Donnie suddenly mentioned something he should have no memory of because he would’ve been a very young toddler at the time and then turned into a long conversation of asking is he remember this, that and the other, most of which he does all very accurately and ending with Splinter realising his youngest child remember his first birthday.)

He ties his mask into a ribbon instead of knots like his brothers because Raph tied it that way once when they were younger and he liked it so much Raph is still tying his mask this way ten years later.

He’s the most skilled of the turtles with shurikens, kunai daggers, bow and arrow, crossbow and even slingshot. Splinter realises early on that Donnie’s tactical mind, combined with these weapons, which require precision, accuracy and consideration of wind, speed and distance meant that he could be very skilled with these weapons.

Donnie is actually the turtle I had the most difficulty with picking out a voice for, I wanted it to sound clear he is still the youngest brother but not too young, and in the end settled with Walker Scobell, who is the role of Percy Jackson in the new Percy Jackson and The Olympians live action series

would never admit it but watching horror movies gives him nightmares sometimes and he has to hang in raphs room when he can’t sleep. whenever he can’t sleep you can find him in raph’s room tbh. he feels safer in there because he knows raph will keep him safe.

leo has a little bag filled with medical supplies. takes his role as the group’s medic seriously.

tw. child experimentation: he and donnie are ‘twins’, loving dubbed the disaster twins. when they were being experimented on the two shared a cage. experiencing the trauma they did together left them ridiculously co-dependant. one is never seen without the other. it might be a problem but it’s a problem they don’t want to address. 

has a small fear of heights after he got dropped from a roof. he almost died and didn’t realize he was in actual danger until raph yelled at him. 

listens to 2000s pop RELIGIOUSLY. britney spears, katy perry, rihanna, kesha, miley cyrus, etc, etc, etc.

big fan of magic. he’s tried to impress his brothers by showing them a few magic tricks. he actually works very hard so they’ll think he’s cool.

he’s a biter. he bites people affectionately, not hard but just a little chomp. he didn’t a lot when he was younger now not as much. maybe when he’s feeling really affectionate. 

does not believe in ghosts. will listen to his brother’s ramblings ( if they believe ) but always reminds them that ghosts aren’t real. 

he’s the fastest of his siblings. he’s mastered keeping his movements light and quick. he might not have the fastest reaction time out of all his siblings but he’s the first one to catch a baseball if you threw one a the group. leo might not be able to deliver hard hits like his brothers can, but he makes up for it by using his speed, portals and a plan to get the upper hand in a fight. 

he’s not a hard hitter so much as he manipulates objects to hit hard for him, usually with the help of his portals. 

he can easily adapt in a fight. he may not expect the unexpected but he can work with it and play it off thanks to his confidence. he can be so caught up in himself and his goals to win. whatever he’s doing that he ends up with tunnel vision in the middle of a battle. 

leo has a win at all costs attitude when fighting. he will do whatever it takes to come out the other side with bragging rights, whether he’s earned those rights or not. 

humor is his coping mechanism. he used to make the others laugh when they were younger and being experimented on to try to cheer them up or distract them. if he’s laughing whatever's happening can’t be that bad or it won’t feel as real if he doesn’t acknowledge it. so he refuses to take situations seriously. leo also jokes to overcompensate for his insecurities, a fear of being average, and his perfectionism. knowing that helps you see that he does the same thing while fighting.

great strategist. he might not always be the one that makes a plan but he’s usually the one to bring ideas into action. 

he can be just as intelligent as donnie but he’s street smart instead of book smart. 

he feels like he’s nothing without his brothers because of that, he sometimes shows off as much as possible in a fight in order to earn glory and praise that could separate him from any other fighter. 

he doesn’t think he’s a good leader and does everything in his power to prove to his brothers that he isn’t a good leader. lot of self sabotage in hope raph will be leader again. 

very self-sacrificing. is willing to put himself in danger for the safety and well being of others. it’s not that he wants to die but leo’s very careless with his life. if he dies he dies. it goes back into leo thinking he needs his brothers more than they need him so he’s willing to throw himself into the line of fire if it means they get a chance at survival. he feels most people in his life don’t need him as much as he needs them. he took the whole it’s not about me thing a little too literally 

he never screams whenever he wakes up from a nightmare, so it’s difficult for someone to tell he’s even having one. before he wakes up, he just curls into himself, clutches his blankets close, and wakes up sweaty and shaking. even after awhile they never fully go away. 

in the future he loses his right arm while saving donnie. ( let’s give it up for the self-sacrificing baby !! ) once donnie was done being pissed at leo for almost dying ( let’s be honest they were all upset with him ), his brother joked it was karma for when donnie saved leo from shredder during the fight that sent them to elias. leo yelled at him for at least an hour saying he got to keep his arm. 

took literal months to convince him to go to therapy because ‘what if the healthy coping mechanisms make me lose my swag’ after a while he talks to his therapist like they’re his best friend. strolls in like he owns the place sunglasses and all.

harbors a lot of resentment towards his younger self. it fucks him up on the daily when lorena acts exactly like how he did when she was his age. he has to constantly remind himself that they’re two different people and lorena is not him, well, not fully. she’s her own person and deserves to be. 

when it came to saving aerwyn, leo was absolutely ready to take her in because he saw himself in her in that moment. had splinter not taken in him and his brothers, leo knows they would have been used for evil. their lives would have been worse than what they were already given which was pretty damn rough. the thought of the little girl falling into that kind of trap solidified her being adopted.

he becomes the leo we know from most other iterations, the mature traditional leader, in the future. he’s a little stricter in the future but mostly when it comes to training the next generation of hamatos. honestly the tired old man who’s a father / uncle figure to too many kids. if you’re wondering yeah, master leonardo has gray hairs and he does indeed dye it. refuses to gray first he’s too hot for this.

New batch of Su-34 bombbusters is delivered to the Russian Aerospace Force

A new batch of Su-34 fighter bombers passed the tests and was handed over to the Russian Aerospace Force amid reports that about 17 of these jets were shot down in Ukraine.

The Su-34 jets were manufactured at the Novosibirsk Aviation Plant, a unit of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC).

“The Su-34 is a single machine with high flight performance, which proved well during real combat operations,” said Denis Manturov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Minister of Industry and Commerce of the Russian Federation.

On October 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the establishment of a Coordination Council under the government to meet the needs arising from a special military operation. This decision was taken to strengthen the coordination of the activities of federal and regional authorities. The Coordination Council was headed by the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mishustin. His deputies in this position were Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov and Deputy Prime Minister - Head of Government Personnel Dmitry Grigorenko.

“We understand the importance of our work to provide the Russian armed forces with the necessary aviation equipment and we will continue to comply with all our obligations. By the end of this year, the Russian Aerospace Forces will receive the next aircraft, which is currently in production," said Yury Slyusar, Director General of UAC.

The Su-34 frontline bomber will form the base of the attack power of Russian frontline aviation. The combat capabilities of the modernized Su-34 enable the use of advanced aircraft that increase the range of destruction of ground and surface targets and expand the conditions and accuracy of the bombing, Rostec said in a statement.
