Finished a thing today! First stitch started and finished in my new house. Now I'm caught in the conundrum of having made this for myself and the realization that it would also be a great gift for someone else. The challenge being that my track record for finishing projects I've already done once is non-existent. But it's a quick and simple enough pattern I might just have to give it a go.

The new house is amazing, but of course we've already identified some mild to moderate urgency changes and fixes to do but so far nothing outside of the realm of manageable once I have a steady income again. One thing I hadn't expected was to feel as at home in a new city as I have so far. But damn, once you get out of the immediate GTA the people just get so much nicer and less pretentious. I legit feel a little like a Hallmark Christmas movie character that's given up the Big Smoke for a good ol' small community.

I even bought two flannel shirts.

Well, it's (a slightly belated) Finished Object Friday, and I'm wondering: does only one mitten count as a Finished Object? I hope it does!

The second mitten is on the needles, I'm hoping to finish them soon so they can go out to their new home.

The first official finish of 2023 is this Waterfall Scarf from the book 101 Designer One-Skein Wonders and designed by Linda O’Leary. I used 120 grams of Caron Cotton Cakes and size 10 needles. June socks for #LaMercerieYearOfSocks2022 - #HibernationHouseSocks by Lindsey Fowler, knit with @fiber_lily Sock yarn in Hush, held with some leftover suri alpaca yarn custom dyed by @nnkyarns I actually finished these over 2 weeks ago, but was so excited when I finished them that I put them straight on and have worn them twice already since then! . Pic 2 shows that I have zero self-control - every pair of socks in this pic has been cast on since I finished the Hibernation House socks. If I could just focus on a single project, I’d already have at least one more finished pair! But variety is the spice of life so I have 4 pairs of socks on the go. From top left, going clockwise - DK weight socks using no particular pattern, with alternating rib texture. A finished sweater for #fofriday

Hooray! It's done and I'm incredibly happy with the little changes I made from the pattern. I decided on garter stitch for the collar, bottom edge and sleeve cuffs and it's so cozy and I also added some short rows at the bottom back to give it a little extra length and now it just needs to get cold enough to wear it!

Kicking off my new blog with my very first F/O submmission. It's just a short imagine for Day 1.

Himeko thumbed through her book, scanning the pages as quickly as she could without losing focus on the words. As she finished the book, she sighed and flopped down on her floor pillow, pouting and setting the book aside.

"I wish I could hug him through the book. He's so tired and sad all the time, he deserves to smile for once."

She looked over at her small picture on the wall, revealing a short man with a shaggy undercut sitting against a wall. He had a baggy jacket on to hide his body. She knew better, seeing the way he clutched his arms and chest in the photo.

"He's always trying to help others even if it hurts him. Maybe I could help him in return. Oh big brother, I wish you were real..."

She stood up and went to her bed, looking at the time on her alarm clock and realising she needed to go to bed. 'Please rest, sis, you know I'd worry if you didn't get enough sleep' his voice rang out in her imagination. She smiled softly and crawled under the covers, grabbing her Banette plushie and hugging it close. She imagined it was his partner, and smiled wider.

"Goodnight, big brother."

As she drifted off she imagined her big brother singing softly beside her, lulling her to sleep. She clutched her cut arm as she thought of the pain he went through.

"I'd take all your cuts away if I could big brother..."
