#for this week's maxi challenge lmao

For this week's theme, I wanted to share an analysis of a dynamic I wish we'd seen more of in the movie: Curt and Jack collaborating (+ a bit on their relationship with Brian).

The movie tells us that Jack is a "true original", and it implies that so is Curt, but it also adds that "everyone stole from Jack", so Jack was super popular in the '60s but we know that, by the time Jack finds Curt in Berlin, some of the youngest glam fans didn't know who Jack was, which is not surprising since even in real life there are many examples of artists that have inspired other famous people but have later fallen into obscurity, even more so when they're part of a minority. Before Berlin Curt was struggling to make music with Brian (more about that later), so of course working with Jack they're able to make what, I'm assuming, ends up being a popular record since we see later at the death of glitter concert that Jack is the host and back into the public's attention. It's easy to imagine Curt and Jack being able to connect with one another, not only because of their creativity but also because of their shared experiences with Brian, but while we see Brian literally steal the pin from Jack alongside stealing his crew and ideas, with Curt it's a bit more complicated.

The first time Brian sees Curt in concert he's immediately smitten, but he's also envious of Curt's performance, so when he's finally able to work with Curt it's obvious that his infatuation with Curt as a fan and his infatuation with his talent don't fit well together, producing Curt is a way for Brian to be able to claim some of Curt's talent and be able to put his name near his and also somewhat posess him under the company's name, he is also able to steal some of his identity in a way when they become a duo, since they're now connected and one cannot exist without the other in the eyes of the public, but this fantasy doesn't last long. When Curt's free spirited creativity starts to dull under the restrictions imposed by the recording company, he stops matching the image of the rockstar "Curt Wild" that Brian had created in his mind, so of course when choosing between siding with the recording company and siding with Curt as simply a person and not his rock persona he chose the company.

Valuing talent through the lens of having or not having a public is what distorted Brian's view of what being an artist means since the beginning, Jack Fairy being adored by the patrons of the Sombrero club and Curt being despised by the festival goers is all the same to him, Brian Slade cannot exist without having a public that perceives him, and we're shown this with him performing as Little Richard (already copying someone else) as a child in front of his family, in comparison we see Jack as a child become his own persona alone in his room in front of a mirror, the difference between a true original that can exist alone on it's own versus a copy that needs something to base itself on and also needs some form of external acknowledgement of its existence.

These childhood memories not only show us the differences between Jack and Brian but they also show the similarities between Jack and Curt since they both use their past traumas as fodder for their creativity, Jack using the blood from his lip as lipstick and Curt going bonkers whenever he hears electric guitar, because of the electroshock, are both examples of this. Curt's spontaneous and unrestricted creativity was probably free to flow with Jack (as opposed to the recording company) since they could relate to one another, and I really wish we had gotten something more about them working together in Berlin.

There's also another way that Jack and Curt's relationships with Brian could be seen, that is as a metaphor of the music industry: stealing from indie artists, suffocating creative people with the obligation to comfort to certain standards, measuring their worth only through how many fans (aka customers) they have and rewarding mediocre mass appeal (Tommy Stone).

And that's it, I would have liked to say more about Curt and Jack, but I got nothing left at the moment, feel free to add any ideas you might have. Also, this ended up having a lot more Brian analysis than I predicted lol I would love to make some Brian vs everyone analysis posts and get more into the details of Brian's relationships someday, despite him being an asshole I still really like Brian as a character, love to hate him.

What’s your favorite Sims death? Maybe fright? I've only ever had it happen once via ghost, the anim is pretty funny. :)

Alpha CC or Maxis Match? My Simblr probably says otherwise, but I don’t have a preference! I’ve had nearly every possible CC style under the sun throughout my years of playing, and I constantly think about reviving my 'semi-realism' folder (living vicariously through you, other simmers!). I didn't play with CC until early 2006 though, so MM is a little bit more nostalgic. :)

Do you cheat your sims weight? Hell no! I'm still in awe of Nysha's townie body diversity mod finally letting townies be fat. :D I wish the game had a better way of managing bodyshapes so I could add more variety that way.

Do you move objects? Of course!

Favorite Mod? Of all time? Impossible! My continued interest in gameplay is always because of new mods. :)

I did gain a new outlook thanks to a mod recently, though! My wild romance sim Blaze Biermann ended up 'mood swinging' to fortune before he went to uni, and instead of reverting, it got stuck.

He had a few flings still (pleasure secondary), but after he returned home and met his daughter (for the first time since her birth), he started cringing whenever I directed him to romance his dates. It felt like he had grown as a person, and I loved it!

TL;DR: Randomly change your sims' original aspiration/s to give them interesting character arcs! First Expansion/Game Pack/Stuff Pack? I mean, not my decision, but our first TS1 EP was Hot Date. I'm pretty sure I got TS2 EPs/SPs in order of release (miss those days of unwrapping a new one every birthday/christmas!).

Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made? I don't usually get very attached to my first-generation sims, but maybe Evonne Milos, from the gameplay/story hood I accidentally destroyed in four days? Never actually played her, but I had a lot of ideas for a corrupt 'sexpot' politician. x)

Have you made a simself? Lots! 99% of the fun I had playing TS2 as a kid was me and my best friend making ourselves and our respective crushes of the week, and we'd always live in one of those Veronaville lots that was two houses connected by a balcony. I can't even tell you the amount of times she got me pregnant against my wishes whilst I went to the bathroom, lmao.

Which is your favorite EA hair color? For colour consistency, probably brown? But there are a lot of brunettes in Brunwick (must be the name!), so I enjoy the recessives popping up in gameplay. :)

Favorite life stage? Ohhh dude, that's so difficult to answer. They all bring different challenges and dynamics to the household! I feel like I've started to appreciate the child lifestage more since Brunwick has grown large enough to have multiple friendship groups. It's fun watching them goof around with each other and be actual kids, instead of sitting indoors skilling. I really need to build a park! :)

Are you a CC creator? Yes, I really love how this game has led me to so many creative hobbies! Would like to tackle BHAVs one day. :)

But gameplay-wise, a lot! My early years were probably based around creating stories more than actively playing, but when I did I would just emulate perfect families, attempt legacies, and restart BG hoods over and over. x)

Now I'm all about wants-based gameplay; witnessing and interpreting a story, as opposed to creating one from scratch. But I will add drama if I find my interest waning! x)

Who’s your favorite CC creator? Again, super-duper impossible to answer because everyone's CC makes the game fun, but my most recent CC shopping spree was Honeywell and HugeLunatic! :) 🛒

I had meant to finished these particular collages for pride month, but better late than never! I hope you're doing well and that your drive back to Louisiana wasn't too stressful. (And I hope now that your AC is fixed that it cools down your place pretty quick!)

Whether it's platonic or turns into something more romantic, I can see Ezra gravitating towards Hex, especially after his soul searching trip (because now that he and the urge are co-existing without any issue...well. He needs a few friends to be able to handle it).

I can definitely see Maxi and Rora noticing Ez gravitating Hex’s way first and both of them giving him a 👀 nudge at some point, but Hex at first is just like “Haha yeah, he’s cute but I’m sure he’s just being nice, he’s a chill guy” until finally Rora’s pointedly like “so show me some photos from last weekend” (the last time they all hung out, be it in Jersey or Greymoon) and Hex is like “oh sure—“

and then realizes most of them are of Ezra or that Ez is in his immediate vicinity in most of his selfies

and Maxi’s like “aren’t you the one who’s supposed to be good at this sorta thing?”

and Hex is like “bro if you don’t stfu—“

which leads to weeks of quietly stalking Ezra’s insta, spotify, any other socials he might have, just to test the waters but also to get a sense of what he likes (because he’s definitely cool with the Devil thing, but y’know, they need to have something in common when they’re not both gutting people)

and then the next time they’re in a group setting he makes a point to sidle on over to him and try to be smooth about it (whether or not it actually is smooth is directly proportional to how much mezcal he drinks beforehand bc being confident is v much a front when it comes to people who aren’t going to be basement fodder later)

I think they’re v much on the same wavelength, being sensitive in their different ways, and I can see them both being a good support for the other one given their particular challenges :’D (Hex at some point is going to blurt out the “oh by the way if I like you too much my family curse might make me try to kill you so just FYI” whereas I see the twins being a bit more… measured? about that conversation?)

ok so i usually try to wait until after bread week to form opinions of the season since i feel like at this point the wheat has been separated from the chaff, so to speak. anyway, really great strategy for Rebs (to be sick on bread week), makes certain that you don’t have to do the hardest challenges, lmao.

my prediction for the final is Janusz, Sandro, and Syabira; I think Sandro will win. i think Maxy and one of the two scottish men will reach quarter/semi finals. Rebs and one of the older women are next to leave. Carol is one of those contestants, like Lizzy, where i would love to see them hit the final but i don’t think they will.

Week 6 of missing Cipher Academy.

Finally got around to watching the new Drag Race episode, and it was fine. At least it was better than last week… Plane Jane trying so hard to read Dawn was funny, when I also thought that Plane’s dress was pretty basic and barely even fit the brief. The mini challenge was fun – it seems like they’re going to make this a regular thing going forward, and I think that’s a good idea. It really showcased how well Sapphira knew the other girls lol The maxi challenge was also okay…I did have to skip Mhi’ya and Dawn’s presentation because I can’t stand secondhand embarrassment, but the others did relatively well. I know a lot of people were up in arms about how Plane and especially Q should’ve won, but I found their set a little…overly rehearsed and over the top to the point of being alienating. And their jokes were just okay. Sapphira and Nymphia also had pretty okay jokes, but Sapphira’s charisma just draws people in, and I think that’s what gave her the edge. And, if I’m being really honest, it’s extremely funny to see Q so shocked at Sapphira winning, and it looks like there’ll be an entertaining fight about it next week. The Mhi’ya and Morphine lip sync was…interesting…the cape throw was certainly a move… It was a nice cap on the Mhi’ya and Morphine rivalry storyline, I suppose, but as a lip sync it just felt awkward to watch.

Watched Nijigasaki’s 4th Live, Love the Life we Live while I did some reading, and it was pretty cute. This batch of solos were all decent, and I loved seeing Shu Uchida performing – she looks like she’s having a lot of fun and is super in her element. Seeing Akina Homoto perform is also great, and Lanzhu hasn’t had a bad solo so far. The cat ears for Happy Nyan Days were cute, the Santa capes for Twinkle Town were cute, and the Osaka-ben for MIRACLE STAY TUNE was fun. A decent live overall.

Manga Sunday time! Undead Unluck continues to deliver on the lore and the stakes raising – it’s hard to imagine actually losing anyone in this loop after the failure of the last loop, so I’m glad to see Tozuka finding ways to still make each victory feel earned and against insurmountable odds, because otherwise the victory lap would go on for way too long. I’m excited to see what Language can do, and how Nico and Ichico will counteract her. This loop looks like it’ll be a battle of wits between the two Round Tables, and that’ll be a blast to watch play out.

RuriDragon is more of the same…once again the dialogue writing is really verging on cringe and alien for me, and for such a story light/character driven narrative, it’s making me want to drop the series entirely… Okay, one more week, and then I’ll decide.

LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OKAY I TAKE IT BACK…OR RATHER, OSHI NO KO SAVED ITS ENERGY PULLING ALL THOSE PUNCHES JUST SO THIS ONE WOULD LAND LIKE A TRUCK… I mean, I do appreciate Aqua and Ruby’s relationship on a level of like, it must be somewhat comforting to Aqua to see a patient he failed in his past life living out her dreams now…but man, I have no idea how they’ll move forward with this storyline or resolve the incest of it all… Are we to expect that Aqua and Ruby are actually…lovers now? And that they’re just going to go through their whole lives hiding this relationship from the world…? I imagine Aqua will put an end to it eventually, but Ruby doesn’t seem like she’ll ever give up, so…? And man, if this movie came out in the real world I feel like there’d be people pushing to stop its release due to the on-screen actual incest kiss LMAO Well…either way, I’m in it for the long haul just to see how the story ends, so. Also side note but the art was really cute this chapter. They were really building up to this, huh.

Woah… One Piece… seeing the Five Elders in their true monstrous glory is amazing… I especially like Bakotsu, the skeletal horse. But wow, this truly feels like an all-out war at this point.

Godddddd that was the best SpyFam chapter in a long while…I actually laughed out loud at the comedy for once, and the climactic payoff was so moving… It’s enough for me to want to do a livetweet of the chapter: I love Loid practically breaking his arm to marionette Anya around, and her childish need to show off just added to the comedy. The obstacle course was also cute, complete with Anya’s secret talent of “moving weirdly.” And then there’s Loid panicking at the quiz, only for Anya to obviously excel – but I do appreciate that she would’ve gotten the last question even without her mind reading (in this moment, at least), because she’s genuinely gotten to know Damian better. This whole competition thing was pretty silly, but it was a nice way to find an excuse for Damian and Anya to dance because Damian’s pride would’ve never let him do that otherwise. AND THEN SUDDEN HENRY/MARTHA SHIP FODDER????? I guess I should’ve expected it since they’re both named characters who are single and of the same age bracket, but damn I didn’t expect to actually be fed…I love seeing weird side pairings, and Martha’s super cool, so this was a fun surprise. AND THEN THE DAMIANYA DANCE it’s so cute… Loid leaving Anya to handle the situation on her own because he trusts her… Damian and Anya actually having a private conversation without their usual hostility or tsunderism or friends butting in with their own assumptions… Damian letting some cracks in his armour show and Anya noticing this… ANYA DECIDING TO TELL HIM SHE CAN READ MINDS AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THIS IS THE MAJOR STATUS QUO SHIFT I WAS DESPERATELY WAITING FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Of course Damian wouldn’t believe her right away, but I hope to god it doesn’t take another hundred chapters for him to be like “wait…this literally explains everything about why she’s so weird.” It’d be so cool if he and Anya could share this secret, and maybe they could even help each other out if they ever face something like the bus jacking again… Anya’s weakness has always been that she doesn’t have the skillset to effectively use the crucial information she can gather, so if Damian could help her strategize, I think that would make for some really fun developments. But for now, I’m just glad we seem to be moving forward.

Watched through the Karen Bee arc in Nisemonogatari, and it was…okay? I find it hard to follow some of Monogatari’s long winding conversations sometimes… Like, why does Araragi say that Karen’s conviction isn’t enough because she’s fighting for other people when he’s literally doing the same thing…? Why put down her self-sacrificing tendencies when Araragi was literally ready to give up his life to save a random vampire he just met…? And why was this enough to convince her to back down? I like Kaiki as a villain, and I like his jaunty little theme song and his tired sounding voice, but why did he agree to leave town so easily…? Maybe his motivations will be answered later on? Was he lying about leaving? But surely Araragi and Senjougahara would’ve realized that he was just saying he’d stop so that they’d leave him alone? It often feels like Monogatari is operating on a level of specificity and pedanticisim that leaves me feeling lost, because all this high-minded talk of being right or wrong or enacting the “right” kind of justice or enacting justice for the “right” reasons just feels sort of like…at a certain point, I’d rather see some actions being performed rather than long diatribes about how and why certain actions should be performed. I don’t know, I’ll go read some essays I guess, but I feel like I’m just not getting into the groove of Monogatari the way so many people seem to have done. I do like Araragi and Senjougahara’s insane little romance, though, and the way Senjougahara is so unrelenting but he accepts her anyway. Senjougahara and Hanekawa’s relationship is also interesting, and it seems like that branch of the love triangle will be explored further so I’m looking forward to it. And oh my god I’m so glad I watched things in novel order, because I would’ve been so much more confused if I hadn’t watched the Kizumonogatari films before this.

I do wonder, sometimes, if I’ll ever actually truly love Monogatari. I love Cipher Academy a lot, so I wanted to give Monogatari a shot as Nisioisin’s supposed magnum opus, but seeing people heap praise onto Bake and Kizu and not feeling particularly strongly about either of those series gives me pause… I guess it’s just like, none of the philosophical questions that Monogatari has posed so far actually interest me? I don’t really like altruistic to a fault protagonists who would do anything to help anyone no matter what, and that’s literally Araragi’s biggest character flaw. And the show supposedly explores this flaw of his, but so far it hasn’t really given him any lasting consequences. And while I can relate to Hanekawa in certain ways, (and honestly some parts of her emotional turmoil parallel mine a little too well) I still haven’t really gotten emotionally invested in her…perhaps because I tend to just compartmentalize and move on, while her compartmentalizing comes back to haunt her. And now Nise’s theme of real versus fake feels so boring…it seems obvious to me that after a certain point, if one’s tangible features and or actions are indistinguishable between real and fake, then it doesn’t matter if one had the intention of being a fake. In other words, intentions mean little in the face of tangible reality and how one’s actions actually affect others. This seems fairly basic, but it looks like we’re going to take 11 whole episodes to spell it out, so it feels a little frustrating. I don’t know…I really want to like Monogatari, but it’s just not hitting.

Did some reading of the second book in Pseudonymous Bosch’s Secret Series, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, and…I guess if I were to make comparisons to Mysterious Benedict Society again, it would be this: in Benedict it feels like the kids are rising to the challenge of the adults and the real stakes they pose, but in the Secret series it feels like the adults are lowering themselves to the kids’ levels in order to give them a fair shot. It’s satisfying to read Benedict to this day because the kids have to be genuinely resourceful and clever enough to not just solve puzzles but to social engineer their way out of harrowing situations with what resources they have. In the Secret series, the adults may threaten the kids’ lives, but as long as the kids conveniently know rope escape tricks or have some special gadget or can solve a basic riddle, they’ll succeed. It’s just not as compelling to read…but I’m a bit stuck because I actually own the third book in this series (childhood birthday gift) so I feel the need to read through the entire thing to see if I still like it. Granted I’m still in the first half of this book, but already the puzzles don’t feel that well thought out – first off, why give Max-Ernest a literal magic decoder that would either render all puzzles  moot or require a “oh it won’t work for This puzzle because of this or that,” rendering it useless?? Just don’t put it in the book… Secondly, you’re telling me that Cass has perfect pitch (so that she could sing the song accurately to Yo-Yoji) AND she takes oboe lessons, but didn’t even think to transcribe the notes to see what they said until the resident new kid mentions being in a band???? God, I had issues with Baccalario’s Century series and Andrew Clements’ Keepers of the School series, but at least they had some puzzles that felt like actual challenges instead of just being solved by happenstance or extremely basic lateral thinking. Also I wish Cass and Max-Ernest had some more personalized motivations as to why they’re doing all these things – just wanting to go on an adventure and become a part of a cool secret society isn’t enough…at least Century had one of their friends in mortal peril and Keepers had their whole school at stake. Also also I always liked how in Benedict, the kids being key agents in the plan to the save the world seemed to pain Mr. Benedict due to the danger it would put them in, but there was good reason as to why only children could’ve done it, and they went into the plan knowing the risks. Here, Pietro all but shoves the Magic Item du Livre at Cass and gives her some vague “only you can do it” platitude before seemingly throwing her into the deep end with the Midnight Sun, who already know where she and her friends and family live and could harm her at any time. (Speaking of which, what was the point of sneaking into her house and retying the floss she had set-up as a detection mechanism if you’re just going to leave her torn up sock puppet on her bed anyway…) I know it’s pathetic to complain so much about a children’s book, but hey other children’s books have done it better, so why can’t this one? Kids (and weird adults like me) deserve good literature too.

I’ve been grinding this work thing nonstop with little sleep and about one meal a day, but I didn’t want to miss DunMesh Thursday…plus, Senshi would be disappointed with the way I’ve been living lol so I decided to splurge and order some chicken tikka masala, and the local Indian place was nice and gave me some free naan to boot. Unfortunately the episode itself was a little underwhelming…? I didn’t like some of the directorial choices like the weird trajectory of that one digital zoom or the lack of impact for Marcille’s dark magic…the blood bubbling up to form Falin’s body was cool, but I was missing some of the darkness and solemnity that the scene had in the manga. Also I’m so sad that Laios’ hug was also pretty nerfed, his expression was so complex and layered in the manga but the anime only gave it about one single second of airtime… The bath scene was also missing some of its subtle ominousness from the manga… I don’t know, the vibes in this episode were just off to me, it felt like Falin’s return sunk in way too easily. But it’s nice seeing more of who Falin actually is and how she fits into this group, and Laios subtly bragging in that older brother kind of way was so cute and demonstrative of their bond.

Read the latest chapter of Asada Nemui’s Living Dead – I don’t have much to say about it but I’m nervous for Nogami getting too close to the truth.

A Second Goodbye to You finally ended…what a disappointing story this turned out to be. Whatever vague time travel rules the mangaka established just get thrown out the window completely as Hinata jumps around and teleports to key moments and locations in order to prevent disaster (which makes all of his earlier struggles with getting to certain places as a teen or as a kid feel so pointless). And on top of all that, he gets to relive his high school days and Sora gets away from his parents somehow (even though Hakuraku no longer being a part of their lives really shouldn’t have affected this much), and everything just magically and conveniently works out for everyone. I think the earlier part of this manga was intriguing because it could often shock the reader with sudden violent twists, but when it came to actually explaining what was happening and people’s motivations, it just completely fell flat. Drag Race was okay…I kind of don’t get how these room design challenges relate to the skillset that a drag queen needs other than like, improv comedy I guess? Q being heated continues to be very funny, especially as Sapphira and Plane Jane get a team win. It feels like Nymphia’s chances of winning are slipping further and further away, but I hope I can be proven wrong. But also, to echo the words of literally every single tweet in the Drag Race tag today, they really set Dawn up with that song.

Daraku Kazoku-ron caught my eye for being an interesting take on the “two guys raise a kid together” BL – I normally don’t really like them when they’re overly fluffy and moe-focused, but this one has been enjoyable so far. I like that Meguru isn’t just a cute kid but a little surly, and has her own opinions on the situation and how her mother treated her. The two guys already having a history gives their inevitable relationship a stronger base to stand on, and there are some actual themes of self-improvement and scenes of the two trading their differing philosophies that I appreciate. I also like that they didn’t cheap out on Touma’s shady occupation and he’s actually a yakuza, which should make for some interesting story developments in the future. I’m looking forward to the rest of this one.

Season 5 (2013)

Season 5 is a turning point for RPDR. It's when the show shifted focus from fashion queens to comedy queens, with Jinkx's win signaling that shift. Indeed, Seasons 2/3/4 had a secondary design challenge following the Snatch Game, but Season 5 removes that. Instead, another acting challenge (the telenovela) appears in the latter half. This is also the last time immunity is given out. It's the last season to use the old "Cover Girl" transition (where the marquee and the judges panel are shown). And that Hollywood tour bus in the premiere has to be the last time the queens leave the studio for a challenge right? Meanwhile, we get our first rapid-fire runway during an overly long maxi-challenge; although the Roast didn't have one. And the Roast makes its first appearance. There's a couple other new challenges. Episode 2 involves lip syncing to iconic Untucked moments (they sure loved to do odd challenges in episode 2 back then). But it was a fun challenge, and multiple queens did well in it. The other new one is the Ballet, which I also thought turned out well despite initial low expectations. As for the returning staples, I only found Jinkx, Alaska and Roxxxy funny in the Snatch Game. I didn't like the singing challenge format this time (the whole group charity single). The Dumpster Diving design challenge had some rough runways. And the children's TV show was kinda cringe. The Fragrance Ad was probably the best branding challenge we've seen so far though (ignoring Aubrey O'Day's involvement). And the courtroom scenes for the finale music video were fun. I liked the make-up done in the dark mini-challenge too. The water tank photoshoot in the premiere maybe wasn't the best idea though. Makeover uncomfortable moment watch: Jinkx's partner saying he killed Judy Garland... uh... Otherwise, Season 5 probably has the most understandable boot order of any season. Just about every queen went home when they should've. Which left a star-studded top 6 (I mean 2nd-6th place all returned in AS2 and the winner... will eventually win a second time). It might be the most famous top 6 from the regular seasons. This year also has the first ever Double Sashay Away, which was a shocking moment. Especially since it's only happened one other time (I'm not counting Season 14). This season seems to have the most drama too. There's two main sources: the Alyssa vs Coco past-history rivalry, which was a fun feud. It all started with that dramatic music during Coco's entrance lmao. Jinkx vs Roxxxy is the other rivalry, which was more annoying than anything. Serena and Jade had their squabbles too. And it was an explosive year for Untucked. The Serena ChaCha vs everyone and the Alyssa vs Jade ("backrolls") fights being the most memorable. The Ro-Laska-Tox clique is another defining aspect of this season. They're the villain clique, but Roxxxy is the only member who annoys me. Overall though, I do think this is one of the best seasons. The cast is entertaining. The acting/comedy challenges feel more significant. There's some great lip syncs. And Jinkx is such a satisfying winner.

Queens Ranking: 14. Penny Tration Imagine being voted onto the show by the fans only to be the first boot. Penny must've had a good campaign because she did not deliver. That Dumpster Diving runway looked very uhh... sloppy and inexperienced. That front slit. That uneven padding. That make-up. And then she gave some amateur moves in the lip sync and kept turning around because she didn't know the words. I also didn't really get a sense of who she is or what her drag style is. 13. Vivienne Pinay She just seemed to complain in every confessional, particularly about her fellow contestants like Serena and Roxxxy. She had this uptight attitude about it. She also had basic runways every week. She wasn't selling it in the kid's TV show. She looked basic playing American's Next Drag Superstar in the Ballet. And she was the worse one in that Britney lip sync. 12. Roxxxy Andrews The Villain of the Season, but too toxic of a Villain to get behind. She was so upset that the show was steering away from fashion queens towards comedy queens. She had this relentless, tiresome resentment towards Jinkx because of it. She kept wishing Jinkx would fail and even gave an empty apology. She also went on this ridiculous rant in the final 3 episode. I thought the judges were overpraising Roxxxy at times too. Her Tamar Braxton in Snatch Game was great, and Tasha Salad was fine, but I'm not sure if "where my people at" and her facial expressions in the telenovela are *that* outstanding. Her Roast, meanwhile, started off mean and ended unconfident. And then she had Ru gagging over the wig reveal in the lip sync. Her runways were solid though - the pink theme, the licorice outfit, the top 3 dress. I almost gave her the win for the Sugar Ball, but I didn't like the Sweet 16 marshmallows. The Makeover win was mainly for the double reveal and padding. 11. Honey Mahogany Utterly forgettable. The Double Sashay was deserved and welcomed - it got rid of the two most "meh" queens on the cast. Honey's runways were all in the same style with that overflowing caftan. Her entrance was my least fave too. And her Diana Ross impersonation in the Ballet wasn't anything like Diana. I didn't feel like I got to know Honey that well either. I do think she "won" that lip sync though. And her best moment was playing Mystique Summers Madison in the Untucked challenge. 10. Serena ChaCha What a delusional trainwreck. Serena had half the cast SEETHING at her. She randomly during their make-up session. She clapped back at Penny, Vivienne and Jade all in one go. She screamed again in Untucked to get attention ("I request the floor ladies"), and was at the center of an iconic Untucked fight. She then called "ghetto" a language and yeah... that's not okay. She was pretty bad in both challenges too. For someone who just graduated art school, her Dumpster Diving look has to be one of the worst runways I've ever seen. Meanwhile her Raja impersonation was very weird and she acted like it was an artistic interpretation lol? Her Panama Carnival in episode 2 was better, but Michelle was right about the panties. She also did the same splits position for both lip syncs. 9. Jade Jolie Her fashion choices were... choices. Her entrance look was too busy, her first runway had that tacky NBC peacock logo, and her last runway had multi-colour hair attached everywhere. While in the 4 episodes in between, she mostly gave passable acting/comedy performances that avoided the bottom. Her Taylor Swift in Snatch Game was at least believable even if it wasn't funny. But ultimately, I think the judges didn't want to lose Coco or Alyssa in episode 6, so they put Jade in the bottom 2 as a sacrificial lamb. Either way, it was her time to go. She had the smallest role in the singing challenge and she didn't really sell it. Personality-wise, Jade was this giggling, sneering, passive aggressive s**t talker, who got into a bunch of drama with Alyssa (culminating in the whole "back rolls" thing). She was also cheering when Serena left. She got snarky with Coco for not picking her. And she had some attitude over her assigned role in episode 2. 8. Monica Beverly Hillz Monica wasn't that visible but that's because her head wasn't in the game at all. She came out as transgender in front of the judges and it was such an emotional moment. She pulled it out in the following lip sync too. But then she looked defeated during the next episode's lip sync. I mean, I didn't like her Dumpster Diving look. She didn't embody Jiggly Caliente that well. And she stumbled over her lines in the kid's TV show. But my heart was rooting for Monica just the same. 7. Detox I have neutral feelings on Detox - don't love her, don't hate her. She shared two personal, emotional traumas, but she had this snobby "I've had it" attitude. She seemed the most invested in Ro-Laska-Tox. She paired up Alyssa and Coco to sabotage them; and then denied doing so. And her track record underwhelmed - she was only top 3 in two challenges - her rooster character and the "HEROINE" perfume ad; both of which were funny. Her Roast was too, but she was flustered during that. Otherwise, her Kesha in Snatch Game was raunchy (peeing on stage really?) She was dropping flags in the Makeover. And her telenovela character changed voices at one point. Still, she gave us those jaw movements in the Cher lip sync while twirling in the jellyfish outfit. She had my second favourite entrance. Her black dress that showed her ass when she turned around was well-played. Her Best Drag runway was great too. But not all of her runways landed - she was worst in the Sugar Ball for me. 6. Ivy Winters Ivy sure had a low-key edit for a Miss C winner. Were the fans shipping her and Jinkx? I mean, she was super nice, she had amazing sewing skills, and RuPaul said her name in a memorable way. But she wasn't the most telegenic. There's a reason why I said star-studded Top 6 and not Top 7. She was the odd-one-out there. But yeah, Ivy's Dumpster Diving Couture looked well-made. The butterfly on stilts, her Divalicious look and her black-and-white photo dress were among my fave runways of the season too. And she made those herself! As for the challenges, she was fun as Lady Bunny in the Ballet. But she missed the president prompt while playing Marilyn Monroe in the Snatch Game, her Roast was tame, and her Fragrance concept was flimsy. I also didn't agree with her winning the singing challenge. 5. Lineysha Sparx An initial front-runner who crashed and burned mid-season. She could've (and probably should've) won the first two challenges. I thought her Dumpster Diving Couture - the wallpaper dress with the shoe in her hair - was better than Roxxxy's. She did win in episode 2 though with a spot-on Tyra Sanchez impersonation. But then she faded after that. She translated everything into Spanish for the kid's TV show, and she had to play Diana Ross in the Ballet... without knowing who Diana Ross was. It seemed like the edit was setting her up for disaster, but both performances were comfortably "safe". Her ultimate demise was the Snatch Game. She practiced Michelle Obama in front of Ru and it was flat as a pancake. She then switched to Celia Cruz, but she sounded unsure of herself in the game show. Also, despite the early exit, Lineysha was one of the top runway queens of the season. She didn't give much negative energy either. 4. Coco Montrese Sometimes I live for Coco's reads and being a drama-magnet, other times I found her unlikeable. Like when she dismissed Jinkx's style. But I laughed when she got snippy at Detox during the singing recording. Maybe it's the editing. I didn't care whether or not she was playing the victim, the Alyssa feud was fun. As for the challenges, I thought Coco's Dumpster Diving Couture with all the movie set junk was creative. She was very expressive playing Lashauwn Beyond. And she went in a unique direction for the Roast by playing Ru's cousin which paid off. Her telenovela runway was one of my faves too. Plus she was a top tier lip sync assassin, even winning 3 of them. But she had an "over it" attitude in the team challenges; particularly the ventriloquist dummy and singing with Alyssa. Her Fragrance Ad had too much leopard as well, and her lines with Wilmer in the telenovela were shaky (they could've edited out that awkward pause). In the end, Coco's story was over the moment Alyssa left. Her make-up on her Makeover partner was pretty busted. 3. Alaska I was conflicted on whether to push Alaska down because of her association with Sh*ron on that cruise, but I'm going to be a hypocrite I guess. Alaska excelled at the comedy and acting challenges, and she worked hard to be a top-rated queen. Her story was feeling the pressure to live up to Sh*ron's legacy. She wouldn't let Ro-Laska-Tox distract her from it. And she delivered most of the time. If Jinkx wasn't on the cast, Alaska would've been a solid winner. The season started with her walking out on the mini-challenge, but then she turned it out with her recycling bag Dumpster Diving Couture. I didn't care that she was in boy drag for the kid's TV show, she was a good host. Her opening act in the Ballet was overlooked. Her Lady Bunny in Snatch Game was funny; as was her Roast. I think she could've won the Dumpster Diving and the Roast as well. I also enjoyed her bloody pink outfit, the red perfume runway, and her cotton candy couture in the Sugar Ball. We'll see how I feel about Alaska in AS2 though. 2. Jinkx Monsoon FINALLY, a winner I can get behind again. Despite having to overcome an entire clique at the Final 4, Jinkx is actually an obvious winner based on track record. She was highly praised in all but two episodes - the first and last ones. Actually, Jinkx could've realistically won 6 challenges this season and I wouldn't have questioned it. The Snatch Game is her peak moment - she managed to make an obscure celebrity funny; and she played it smart by interjecting. Her other win was the telenovela where she stole the scene. In fact, Jinkx stole the scene in the singing challenge too, but I guess the judges wanted Ivy to have a win. She could've won the Roast, the perfume ad, and the Makeover as well. She just understands acting. Her characters are fully realized. She uses schtick, but it's never cringe. I also didn't agree with Michelle's constant criticisms over her runways. I didn't think her early ones were that bad. Jinkx would later shock me with her dia de los muertos look. Her Candy Couture turned into a mess though, but of course the Final 4 lip sync was switched to save her. Otherwise, she was so sweet with her Makeover partner. And "Water off a duck's back" is relatable to anyone with anxiety. 1. Alyssa Edwards My new all-time fave. Alyssa may have been in the bottom a lot, but she gave many memorable quotes - "Oh she really came that way? Alright"; "Girl look how f**king orange you look girl"; "Alright. Oh I see where this is going"; "What the hell are you squirping like a chirping like a bird outside the window?"; "Backrolls?". It's just the way she talks; and it doesn't sound contrived. Her Coco rivalry was fun, and she even had a side rivalry with Jade. She openly read people at every opportunity, but it didn't feel mean-spirited. In the competition, Alyssa gave a great Shangela impersonation and an impressive Ballet performance. But then the Snatch Game began a downward spiral. Her Katy Perry was so bad that Ru got rid of immunity for good and told her to tweet an apology... which was a bit much. Her singing was half-hearted, save for her mannerisms. Her Roast didn't get the audience laughing. Her "Alyssa's Secret" concept didn't make sense as a perfume. And her telenovela performance involved weird facial expressions and bad orgasms. Alyssa had resigned herself to lip syncing to the end by that point though; which isn't an ideal strategy. Her runways were mid at best as well. She even reused her entrance look in one of them. challenge style

this is pretty much gonna be your basic bachelorette challenge, except it won’t be solely be based off of relationships. it will be primarily gameplay driven, but when it comes to who gets eliminated each round, the viewers (aka y’all) will get to vote between the nominees selected by me.

nominees will typically be selected based on relationship levels with stasi, but that could change if something bonkers happens. i’ll let y’all know if it does though!

post wise, it will probably be primarily gameplay shots, with poses being used intermittently. (just letting y’all know in case you’re expecting anything else based off my “teaser” posts lmao)

honestly, i’m kinda throwing caution to the wind and just seeing how things go with this, so a lot of the style stuff is subject to change (aside from the voting aspect. that’s sticking)

the current deadline is 6/18 6/21, a week from posting. if the deadline needs to be adjusted, i’ll do so! currently, i don’t have any cap on how many sims i’ll be accepting. it’ll depend on how many get submitted. i’ll make an announcement around selection time. i’ll be accepting 10 sims!

This is my first time doing one of these things, so here we go:

How long have you been playing the Sims?

I’ve been playing the Sims since 2015, so a little bit after the Sims 4 first came out. I knew about the games by the time the third one was out, but I was like 9 and my parents didn’t really let me play video games in elementary school. Later I got the Sims Freeplay, and thats how I found out that the Sims 4 was out.

How long have you been a Simblr, and why did you become one?

I started mine last year in the summer, so probably about 7 months? I started mine because summer was the first time I gave in and started downloading cc. I initially wanted to just have a cc finds blog and a place where I could post lookbooks (I’ve posted like two lmao). But then I started learning about how people make cc and I tend to want to try and do all the creative hobbies I find out about. I also thought it would be the perfect opportunity to start learning Blender as well, because I’ve always wanted to do that. I’m still learning, but recently I made my first clothing mesh (though its not up for download yet, but soon!).

What type of Simblr are you?

I make cc when I can, and I’ve also done recolors. I also use my blog as a cc finds blog. And according to my description I post lookbooks, but like I said in the last question, I haven’t really kept up with that. Pretty much all of the cc I use and make is maxis match.

Which generation of Sims do you primarily play?

My main game is the Sims 4, but I actually started playing the Sims 2 about a week ago! I don’t think I’m going to be downloading or making any cc for it though because my computer can only take so much, so this blog will always be Sims 4.

A/N: the nice side effect of graduating is that I’m bored and can crank out a chapter in a day and a half apparently when before it took me like literal months to craft a few pages

Anyway, please talk to me i love interaction. Otherwise I’m just screaming into the abyss lmao

“How do you not have a dress picked out?!” Asha nearly shrieked, running her hands through your wardrobe.

You shot her a dirty look as if to ask ‘Really?’ She scrunched up her face in retort.

“Just two weeks ago the whole country taught King T’Challa was dead, so is it really shocking that maybe it slipped my mind that his birthday feast would still happen?”

“I mean you live in the inner palace. You would have had to have known!” She insisted, shooting a glance at Amina, who leaned against the wall of your bedroom, picking her fingernails. Amina continued to look disinterested, denying Asha the support she was looking for.

“I have a lot on my mind.” A truth.

“More important than the King?”

Amina’s sharp look at you screamed ‘Don’t answer that.’ You artfully dodged the question, by turning your attention to one of the many dresses your friend had laid on the bed for you.

“What do you think about this one?” The dress you smoothed across your front now was a flowing maxi dress in purple, red and orange-toned ankara print. The sweetheart neckline left your arms and shoulders bare, but they would be covered by draping a soft matching scarf. Suitable enough for a priestess.

“That’s the first one I grabbed.” Asha said, a little suspicious but delighted once you tried it on completely and twirled around once. Amina’s eyes lit up and you beamed back at her. You did feel pretty. All that was left would be to tame your coils. You decided on a goddess halo braid for the soiree. You had a few hours until the dinner party would begin.

For someone as poised as T’Challa, he had a knack for extravagance when he felt like it. Opulence was only one of the words that described the theme of the venue that night. Stepping into the birthday feast hall felt like trespassing the grounds of heaven itself. Warm lights shone from above, illuminating gold and marble fixtures as well as floral arrangements of lilies and orchids that were the size of a middle school child.

Rows and rows of lavishly decorated tables filled a room the size of a football field, piled high with cured meats, spiced stews, seasoned starchy side dishes, and enough fruit and desserts to land someone in an instant diabetic coma. Accoutrements were as loud and jovial as the people themselves, with your own floor-length dress paling in comparison to many of the tribe princesses’ dresses. Nakia herself sported a shimmering forest-green mermaid dress with golden highlights and a plunging neckline that warranted a second look from most, if not all, men in attendance. She stayed close to T’Challa who wore a classic brown tunic but of a material fine enough that you could almost smell the royalty from a distance. They sat at the table of honor, flanked by Queen Ramonda whose regal smile was almost oppressive in its sincerity, and Shuri who appeared frankly nauseated by the amount of boo loving she’d have to watch close up.

Idly stuffing your face with meat pies, you sat at the first table from theirs on the right side, pretending to be fascinated by one of the stone centerpieces. Live drum music played as a vibrant backdrop to the evening.

You had just fulfilled your one and only duty in leading the ceremonial prayer for longevity and blessing before everyone could partake in the meal. Now, it was best to keep a low profile. After T’Challa called you out personally just yesterday, you did not want to invite any unwanted conversation or attention. You found yourself scanning the sea of guests for N’Jadaka as if it were not obvious why he wasn’t present. Even more unsettling was the fact that during T’Challa’s speech, he was reduced to one of the many “challenges” that he had gone through in the past year.

Once all guests had been served their fill of food and fun, Nakia led an exquisite performance of a war dance. Thereafter, the rest of the guests were invited to dance. At this time, T’Challa was now surrounded by a circle of his elder advisors, who praised him on another year of age and a successful reign so far. Since you had declined joining the dance floor, you couldn’t help but quietly listen in while you attacked a scoop of imported cardamom ice cream.

“When do you plan to execute the traitor?”

Your spoon clattered as it dropped, but the sound was quickly drowned out by the crowd. The cold dessert slid down your throat unimpeded, causing you to choke softly.

So Erik wasn’t just talking…

You could see T’Challa answering, his expression betraying discomfort, but you had trouble reading his lips from your vantage point. Only bits and pieces of conversation came through as you tried to tune out the rest of the event.

“The longer he sits in that cell, the more likely you will have a change of heart.”

“Of course he cannot be changed, why would you even suggest something of the sort?”

“He has disgraced the royal family, has he not?”

“There is already intel leaving the palace suggesting that you have kept him prisoner because you are afraid to kill him.”

“Who cares if he is part of the royal family? He lost.”

The elders now began to talk over each other, rendering the rest of the conversation unintelligible.

It did not help that a stranger now blocked your view, introducing himself as head counsel to the merchant elder. You politely introduced yourself, smiling weakly. The young man, not getting the hint, began to chat you up. Trying to keep focus on T’Challa and his advisors, you circumvented questions like who did you come with, how were you liking the party, and were you interested in dancing?

In the meantime, the elders eventually dispersed, leaving T’Challa seated back at his head table alone with a grave look on his face. T’Challa’s expressions were as difficult to read as usual. How you wanted to question him on whatever decision he had just made, but on what pretext could you do it safelyl? As it was, you had already crossed a line with him.

No longer could you find any happiness in all this noise. It was past time for you to retreat in your quarter. The young man who had invited himself into the seat next to you finally realized that you had stopped listening.

“Are you mad? Do you not hear me talking?”

“I’m very sorry but I think I must leave now.” You replied, rising abruptly to your feet. You attempted to leave, but either your quick movement or your new male friend’s spite had resulted in the fabric of your long dress getting caught out. A large rippp sounded in the air, quickly smothered by music and voices, right before you tripped and toppled to the ground.

The man behind you made an audible ‘tch’ sound as you hit the floor hard on your face. Gathering the rest of your dress in your arms, you ignored the throbbing pain in your cheek. Yup, you had definitely enough of this party.

Before you could rise and give this stranger the tongue-lashing of his life, T’Challa was already by your side to help you up by the arm.

“Disappear.” You heard him say to your slighted suitor. “Are you alright?” T’Challa’s voice lost its edge as he turned his attention to you.

“I’m fine,” you assured him, embarrassed. Touching the pain on your cheek made you wince, it was sure to swell. You pulled your arm away harsher than you intended, and made your way out of the feast hall. To your dismay, the king followed suit.

“Are you sure you’re fine?” T’Challa said, louder now that you were out of the public view. In one of the corridors, you gave him a confused look. You could tell he was not just asking about your face.

“Yes…?” You insisted. Knowing he would not leave you alone until he heard a more satisfying answer, you added: “I was just a bit clumsier than usual.” You smiled widely, albeit a bit insincerely.

“I hope your party is to your liking! I know you had a hard year so it must be nice to relax and enjoy for once, is it not?” Maybe you were laying it on a little bit too thick. T’Challa raised an eyebrow and then let out an exasperated sigh.

“When will this stop?”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” You said.

He sighed again loudly, then waved you away. “The good thing is that this will be over soon.” This last part was flippant. “Thank you for attending. I will see you around later.”

This will be over soon.

Is that how casually he was going to talk about ending a life?

“Kunkani.”

This time you were stopping him in his tracks. He turned his head to give you a curious look, taken aback by the sudden steel in your voice.

“What have you decided?” You queried.

He knew what you were talking about, and this angered him. It was his birthday, for goodness’ sake.

“I don’t need to discuss that with you.” He dismissed.

“What. Have. You. Decided?” You repeated again slowly. Your shoulders squared, and your chin lifted. You were trying so hard to portray strength. It would be almost laughable to someone like him, if not so infuriating.

This time T’Challa was visibly upset. He walked to you until he was mere inches away, and you could feel yourself wanting to shrink but decided to stand your ground.

Stand mighty. Hold your king accountable.

“You’re serious?” He stared down at you, his eyes darkening.

Yes, you are serious.

“I have to know. As someone who is tasked to guide you spiritually in the future. As the daughter of Zuri.”

He gave a laugh that was somewhere between disbelief and amusement.

“When did you become so bold?” He asked, patting your head lightly. “From a girl so timid she could be bullied by a child half her age to challenging your king?”

When you’d been presented to the former King, Queen and son you had been about eleven years old, with no recollection of your life before then. T’Challa had looked at you curiously from afar in that time, and he continued to look at you that way even now. You were an amnesiac that his father had asked him to be gentle with. You later became his sister’s quiet peer mentor and companion. You were the high priest’s daughter. You were a girl whose brown skin reddened at his very smile, every time without fail. You were calm and serene. You were ever present but also blended in every room. You were somehow clumsy and elegant at once.

You never were this confrontational, this demanding. This was new.

T’Challa lowered his hand when your gaze remained fixed and unchanged. The patronizing gesture would not pacify you.

“Are you going to kill him?”

“My council has decided that he can’t be allowed to stay in prison.”

“So you will release him?”

No answer.

“You will exile him?”

No answer.

“You cannot kill him.” You warned. This interdiction apparently struck a nerve.

“I can do anything I want.” T’Challa quipped. “You seem to have trouble acknowledging who I am these days.”

“I know you can do anything you want to as the king of this nation. However, you are also tasked by Bast to be fair.” The muffled sound of distant music seemed to grow as loud as the distance between you at this moment. You had acknowledged this distance your whole life, a distance that T’Challa had rarely seemed to respect. However, today, for the first time it felt impassable, even for T’Challa.

“You are losing sight of your position in the palace. Perhaps I’ve been too kind to you.” T’Challa finally said, smoothing some imaginary wrinkles on his shirt. It was almost as if he were trying to smooth out his own behavior.

“Why would you save him if you planned to execute him anyway?”

T’Challa gave you an incredulous look. He took a deep breath, and closed his eyes, rubbing his temples.

“I’m going to leave now and we will pretend we never had this conversation.”

“There you are! What conversation?”

Nakia had suddenly arrived, her smile radiant but with eyes that betrayed concern. She linked an arm with T’Challa and nudged him slightly.

“I was wondering where you were,” she murmured, looking between him and then you. You bowed to her in greeting.

“I was just leaving,” you said, in a low voice. “Happy birthday, King T’Challa,” you said once more with a curtsy, before you parted ways. You could feel the stares burn holes in your backside as you walked away.

Ok I am gonna be super straight forward about this, making hairstyles like this is really challenging for me. I have tried a ton of times and I just can’t get the meshes to work out the way I like. UV mapping is a pain in the ass, making the hairline match well, and making sure none of the mesh strands are broken is next to impossible for me. Most creators that make hairstyles like this do them from scratch or spend a long time working on them for them to look right. I’m not saying ‘no’ because I am going to try to play around with some seasons meshes (I have hair ideas) but no promises :(

Hello! I use an adfly skipper + adblock, and if both of those don’t work then I just don’t download the cc. For some creators (nolan-sims, simduction, isjao, ivo-sims, and others) I will turn them off because I know these creators aren’t ones that use the sketchy adfly stuff, but for others that I don’t know well I leave it on. I use: U Block origin and adfly skipper (both on firefox)

Hello!! I don’t think this is my eyes because I’m not experiencing this glitch? Did you run a S4S batch fix over everything? I think that causes this glitch sometimes but I am unsure. Try repairing your game and if you have the “no EA eyelash” mod then redownload that and replace the old file.

RPDR 10 Episode 1

Season 10 has started , OFFICIALLY !! 

Let me start off by saying that I am well and truly gagged (and high key upset but we will get to that lol). The season starts as expected with the contestants piling in one by one into the newly refurbished Werk Room , which is a glorious shade of red and adorned with pictures of Mama Ru (living for herself much lol ?). One highlight for me throughout this initial process is Monique Heart’s hilarious reaction to Miz Cracker’s name being Cracker - ol’ girl is not having it and much like Cracker I am highly amused! I also find myself being highly amused by Yuhua surprisingly. After her MTQ video I found her to be forgettable but her one liners have me rollinggggg - I need “You’re not a real woman either“ on a t shirt asap !! As for the entrance looks , to put it bluntly The Vixen looks a mess lol. She’s obviously very proud to represent Chicago but with that outfit choice it is safe to say that the feeling is NOT mutual. Kameron and Kalorie are not far behind in my opinion as Kameron looks like a Real Housewife of Miami reject and Kalorie just looks like a stripper. #noBueno

On to the mini challenge and the girls have to sissy their walks in front of many a drag race alum. Eureka is still shook to be back , Kalorie is still shaking her ass and The Vixen still looks a mess - but hey , what’s new ? Another person I feel compelled to mention is Dusty Ray Bottoms who claims to be “killing this challenge“ and ... I’ll leave it at that lol. Before the girls find out who the winner is they rush back to the Werk Room to de-drag and are absolutely gagging for Miss Kameron’s body but to be honest with you I’m more gagged that Yuhua can’t seem to tell the black girls apart.. they don’t even look alike .. like , at all #doBetter

Overall the girls all put up an impressive display of tricks and twirls with Monet X Change finally being named as the winner of the mini challenge. Whilst this is perfectly acceptable it is till a tad questionable for me as personally , I thought Mayhem should’ve won for that sickening cartwheel in a F L O O R L E N G T H  G O W N but I won’t complain ... yet. 

The runway theme and maxi challenge this week is a throwback to Season 1′s Drag on A Dime , where the girls have to create stunning looks out of dollar store materials. Monet is quick to tell us that Yuhua might be a seamstress but is b no means a designer and I CANNOT AGREE MORE !! (again , I’ll get to why later on). Perhaps the most talk-worthy moment however comes down to the ever-growing Cracker vs Aquaria story line that is clearly forming. Aquaria seems to feel that Cracker copies her style “beyond flattery“ and hints that she’ll be addressing it very soon . My advice to Aquaria would be don’t lmao. The whole so-and-so copied me bullshit is dead , petty and boring and will only result in her looking like a self-entitled brat who thinks the world of herself and not much of anyone else. Within art in general inspiration is bound to be sourced and taken and if that’s how Aquaria feels she should take it as a complement and focus on just doing better !

The runway only adds more reason against Aquaria starting war against Cracker , as whether she had the idea first or not it is Cracker who is gonna be remembered for it ! Cracker’s presentation and overall look told a clear story that Aquaria’s Little Hoe Peep just didn’t live up to although it was enough to keep her safe. Monique also did enough to keep her safe and girl .. I was just as surprised as she was! To me , Monique’s look was flawless head to toe and definitely worthy of a top spot instead of Yuhua as despite being constructed well , Yuhua’s design was boring and predictable , which were the same critiques that landed Kalorie in the bottom so how they got Yuhua to the top , I don’t know. Another switcheroo I would’ve made would be Kameron in the place of Dusty. The muscle queen has served nothing but suburban mum since she’s been here and is already fading fast into the background along with some others. Whilst Dusty’s look was far from excellent , it was interesting and different which I personally appreciate more than just a Plain Jane cocktail dress and a hat.

The highlight of the judges critiques was undoubtedly Miz Cracker ! Her comebacks and one liners were just as on point as her look , which for a second lead me to believe that she’d be securing the season’s first win but alas it was Mayhem who was announced as the challenge winner for her stunning rework of black gloves and trash bags. It was beyond heartwarming to see just how much it meant to her ; gratitude and determination speak volumes and in that case Mayhem is screaming !! Sadly however it was Vanessa and Kalorie who landed in the bottom two. 

They were forced to lip sync to Ain’t No Other Man by Xtina herself , this week’s guest judge. Kalorie was twerking (yet again) , doing splits and hitting every single beat of the song and as sad to say as it is , Vanessa was kinda being destroyed. Her nerves were evident and as an early fan of hers it was heartbreaking to witness. Needless to say Kalorie won the lipsync and Vanessa was the first girl to sashay away. With the little that we saw of Miss Vanjie , I am devastated that she’s gone so soon as she was so charming and relatable but what are your guys’ thoughts?

I was wondering how you first started your berry legacy? Did you make a new simblr for it? How did you first start posting and getting into a routine? I really want to make a legacy myself but i'm scared that it would look really mediocre and unorganized! Any tips on how to plan out the storyline and start posting? Thank you!! I’m honestly super honored that you’re asking me! I’m still a pretty small simblr compared to a lot of people.

I’m going to put this under a cut, just so it doesn’t clutter up people’s dashes because I RAMBLE (like seriously, I’m re-reading it all now and I go on and on and on) but I’m gonna cover everything you asked!

TL;DR: get mildly inspired, get involved in the community and have fun with it!

I cannot recommending creating a new blog enough. While it’s definitely easier to just create a sub-blog off your personal, you’ll have a harder go at keeping things separate once things take off. Plus then you probably won’t have ALL your million tumblr things that you’re already following mixed in with your sim stuff, making things so much harder to follow.

Once you start your simblr (whether a sub-blog or whole new tumblr), TAG EVERYTHING. XKIT SAVES LIVES. Not really, but it will save you a lot of time once you install the Quick Tags and make tag bundles. Seriously.

At least once a day, a “reblog if you’re a maxis match simblr” thing comes across my dash–don’t be afraid to reblog those when you’re starting out. (Or the alpha equivalent if that’s your thing).

Seriously, don’t be afraid to reach out to people and get involved. Ask for sim requests, reply to things, join a Discord server–don’t be afraid to talk to people! I’ve actually made a few good friends this time around. It’s awesome.

This is just one of the unfortunate realities about things–if your pictures look good, you’ll get noticed quicker and blah blah. You can get by on just writing, but it’s a lot harder. This is still tumblr. It’s microblogging. LOOOOONG text posts (like this one lmao) are not what it’s geared towards.

Anyway. I play TS4 on Ultra, and that does a lot of work for me. Sometimes all you really need to do is sharpen and brighten things up. Reshade is another good alternative, if your computer can handle it–that takes a lot of the decision making out because it edits for you! I used to use PickyPikachu’s reshade presets. The downside is that it’s pretty resource heavy.

The basic point here is that having good lookin’ pictures goes a long way to making your stuff look “not mediocre.”

Also, and this is a side thing–find a good theme for your simblr, something that looks good for both text posts and pictures, probably something with either a sidebar or header (or both).

This is the meat of the section and it’s all really Kit/Pastille-specific.

I started up the Pastel Pastilles because I saw Berry’s challenge–I had already read Splash of Color a long time ago, and had a (now obviously abandoned) TS3 rainbowcy. But TS4 was fun and ran like a beast and I liked berry sims, so I dove in. If you were to go back in my archives, though, you’d see that I started posting a TS3 LEPacy, and that’s not even my first one.

I’m not going to even talk about the Grims in this post, since they’re really new. But they’re a prime example of using community involvement to stay interested haha. I’m very excited to play with Ruby and her future family because of all the nice sims people sent for her to eat alive become friends with. 

Planning with the Pastilles

With the Pastilles, I honestly got a little tipsy one night and did my initial planning based around Halsey’s Hopeless Fountain Kingdom. Like… Not even gonna lie. That was honestly my starting point. You can almost see hints of this in some places. From there, I had certain scenes I wanted to hit.

Gen 1 - Luna - “Hopeless”; it’s about being in a shitty relationship and hoping that changes lmao (“I hope hopeless changes over time”). Luna and Dianthus were meant to have a much more obviously toxic relationship but Luna ended up having four kids by her second pregnancy and I just couldn’t play and write that fast. However, I always knew that Luna’s big moment would be telling Dianthus to get out.

Gen 2 - Verity Vine - “Now or Never”/“100 Letters” - There are a couple things that have stayed consistent in this gen: Veri and her dreams, the peach spouse’s dad was gonna be a dick and they would be separated for years, and they were gonna hook back up at a wedding. 

My very first concept was that Riesling was going to be a bit more wishy-washy and bend to his father’s will (hence “Now or Never” being the song). By the middle of the generation, it was clear that Veri would become the distant one (“he said ‘please don’t go away,’ I said ‘it’s too late’”).

Part of writing a sims legacy sometimes is… letting the sims do the writing for you. Meri and Forest weren’t supposed to be the ones getting married (it was supposed to be Chai Tea and Black Cherry) and they definitely weren’t supposed to have the twins but honestly the story is better for it, you know? And obv most of Veriling’s story isn’t the way I initially planned.

All this said, once I knew where I wanted the story to go, I knew I wanted to plan around a few set-pieces: the fountain scene where Riesling trips onto Veri and she realizes “OH SHIT,” the scene where Eiswein walks in, Punk!Veri’s “I don’t dream at all anymore,” and Riesling’s “Hi, I’m Riesling Puck, you might recognize me from your dreams.” Those were all scenes I knew I HAD to get.

Gen 3 - ??? - “Angel on Fire” - it’s about anxiety lmao so I don’t mind linking it, it’s pretty obvious. Gen 3 has an anxious heir, a song about anxiety was on the nose.

I don’t really recommend the getting tipsy part, but definitely do recommend going in with a basic concept.

The cool thing about challenges is that you already have the guidelines as a starting point. One of my favorite parts about this challenge in particular is seeing how people re-interpret the rules–for instance compare the Gumdrops, Frosts, Amours, Pastilles, Fairyflosses, Prisms–we all started from the same basic rules and there’s still a lot of variation, especially once you get past the initial introductions.

Also, SERIOUSLY: don’t be afraid to take inspiration from crazy places–a song you heard on the radio, a movie, your own life, whatever. Like, I decided Veri’s generation would have it’s first Act at Oxtail University because of the “dream of ivy covered walls and smoky french cafes” line in “Beautiful” (from the Heathers musical). The song otherwise has VERY LITTLE to do with Gen 2. It’s just that line became a starting point for me.

Keeping Things Lookin’ Snazzy with the Pastilles

Looking back, you can kind of see Gen 1 was a bit brighter and lighter/different in editing style than Gen 2. I purposefully set out to get a “dreamy” feel for Gen 2′s pictures. It works for me and the Pastilles–it might not for your legacy! Play around with things to see what works.

I’ve also noticed a lot of banners nowadays (they weren’t as big my first go around here on simblr, but they’re everywhere now). I think that helps to keep things “on brand,” organized and consistent too. I personally don’t use a banner for the Pastilles–I didn’t start with one, and now it looks super wrong to me when I try to use one…. So instead, I’d recommend looking at @frost-rainbowcy–she is SUPER on-brand. I can only aspire to reach that level of #a e s t h e t i c.

TBH, you don’t need to go that in-depth. I just like leaving weird easter eggs in places. You might too.

Posting Consistently

So, I started posting the Pastilles officially almost a week after I made the first post with Luna. That’s because I played a BUNCH right at the beginning, so I’d have something consistent to post for a while. It wasn’t initially as story-heavy as it is now. That’s something you probably want to decide before you start posting.

Right now, I’m posting inconsistently because I’m trying to wait around for Cats and Dogs and not give into the temptation to give Veri and Ries the babies they keep wishing for, but….

I’m in game almost every day–I get off work most days between 2 and 4 now, so by 6 PM I’ve eaten/showered/started up TS4. Even if it’s just to make a sim for someone.

I tend to do all my picture editing on Sundays, as it’s my day off. Sometimes it bleeds over into Monday, my other day off. I don’t always write posts up those days, but I at least stick them in the queue so they’re THERE. For me, it helps giving myself that weird deadline lmao

As a result, I almost always have something queued up.

I utilize the queue like MAD. Right now it’s set at 6 posts a day between 3 PM and 12 AM EST, but I change it up depending on what I have going on and what I can crank out. Usually I leave it on 13 posts a day.

Basically, learn what works for you. It does take some trial and error, but you’ll get it eventually.

Now here’s the real truth: you won’t post consistently if you don’t love your game or your sims.

I love playing the Pastilles as much as I love writing them. To the point that I have them backed up in several places just in case. I’m genuinely attached to the family, and that makes it worth it to me. Sometimes that doesn’t happen immediately (I love Luna, and Vino, and even Dianthus that shitbag, but you can tell that I got invested with Veri and Ries–Gen 1 is 30 pages long on my blog. Gen 2 is 92 and counting).

Storywise, I stay interested because I love the fluffy romance bits and snappy dialogue as much as the Drama Bombs, and also (spoilers) I’m a sucker for supernatural stuff. So I tailored my legacy to fit that.

But when I don’t want to play sometimes I just go in game, grab a few pictures of them in CAS and redo the character page for the 25th time. And that’s okay too. I just always try to make sure I have something to post, even if it’s a small (even if it’s just Riesling’s face. Because I know that’s what y’all want. It’s cool. I get it).

Some Sim Relater Tag or Other

1. What’s your favorite sims death? Awh, I hate watching my sims die because they’re my babies but I’d have to say dying from embarrassment because...relatable. 

2. Alpha CC or Maxis Match? Well, I was strictly maxis match but I gotta say I’m starting to love alpha. So, right now a mix?

3. Do you cheat when your sims gain weight? Ok, I don’t know why but this is not an issue for me. My sims just do not gain weight, but if they did I would probably be fine with it. I mean, more to love, right?

4. Do you use move objects? Absolutely. 

5. Favorite mod? Wicked Whims  lmfao just kidding. For storytelling for sure the teleport mod for saving my ass but for gameplay I love MC Command Center. It makes things so much more unpredictable and exciting. 

6. First expansion/game/stuff pack you got?  I first played the base game sims 2 when I was about seven, so yeah! 

7. Do you pronounce “live mode” like aLIVE or LIVing? Wow, I’ve never thought about this before o.O I always said it as (a)live mode. 

8. Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made? Hmmm that’s hard, not because I’m amazing at CAS or anything just because I grow so much attachment to all of my sims for different reasons. Right now, I’m really feeling Dakota or Sebastian. 

9. Have you made a simself? Never made one. Mostly because I don’t think I’m self aware enough to make an accurate looking one lmao. 

10. What sim traits do you give yourself? Probably gloomy, ambitious, glutton. 

11. Which is your favorite EA hair color? Ooh, I really like the gray one hahahah. 

12. Favorite EA hair? Definitely that base game one that’s like long with the strands from the middle coming through on the shoulders. Like the one with the layers. You have no idea what I’m talking about. Found it (Val’s old hair)!

13. Favorite life stage? Teen for sure. I love how they get all these new interactions/responsibilities but they have the dreams of a kid (wow art imitates life lmao). 

14. Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay? HA! I suck at building so yea definitely gameplay.

15. Are you a CC creator? I hope to be one day. The task just looks very daunting. 

16. Do you have any simblr friends/a sim squad? I honestly don’t think I’ve been here long enough. Two week anniversary just past (woot woot). But maybe someday if I’m lucky!

17. What’s your favorite game? (1, 2, 3, or 4) Ahhh! I like them all for different reasons except for ts1 don’t shoot me I was just born when it came out. Sims 2 for the music and nostalgia. Sims 3 for the simblr realism (holy cow) and all the countless machinima shows I watched!! Sims 4 for how user friendly it is, the emotions, and how friendly it is on my wallet ($). 

18. Do you have any sims merch? Nah, I wish, but I probably only ever be nerdy and wear it when I’m editing (we all know I need a cape if I’m going to tackle the challenge that it is lawl)

19. Do you have a YouTube for sims? Ha, yes! It’s only got one video though. I plan on expanding it once I get my blog going. 

20. How has your “sim style” changed throughout your years of playing? Bruh, I’ve been here like 2 days (but I’ve really grown to liking really long faces on my sims, that might be my thing?)

22. Who’s your favorite CC creator? Gosh, I like a lot of them. I’d say @bonehlda not only for the username but also because her content is just so trendy. 

23. How long have you had a simblr? Technically 22 days but I didn’t start posting until about 17 days or so ago. 

24. How do you edit your pictures? With tears! (and photoshop) 

25. What expansion/game/stuff pack do you want next? Honestly, I’d love something that we’ve never had before in any other of the generations. Right now, I feel like we’re on a constant loop of repeating things from TS3 and TS2. 

25. What expansion/game/stuff pack is your favorite so far? Get Together for sure. At first I hated it because I thought it sounded dumb just to have places to hangout but there’s so much more to it! It gives my sims lots of things to do and I love making little social groups.
