it took me a bit to get to this one because anytime i check my inbox on my main account I'm absurdly tired of socializing but here i am again

I'm weird when it comes to foreshadowing; i love when there's objects connected to what we're meant to be looking for, either that or vague feelings.

i love being stuck in a memory with foreshadowing, and going through the story with the narrator because they know everything that happened and me as the reader / watcher does not.

for the objects though i am insanely fond of a story revolving around a person place or item that challenges the entire narrative, kind of throwing us around a bit on WHAT it's there for ...

I'm a bit brain-fogged right now funnily enough but this question was entertaining to think about despite the fact I'm terrible at describing words... hehe

A Long-Ass Post On Nat's Music Taste (Biblically Accurate)

I have thought about Yellowjackets + music a very normal amount which is why I have this imperfect and probably non-exhaustive but hopefully canon-accurate list of all the music we know Natalie Scatorccio likes (with reference photos.)

There will probably be a pt 2 with some of my own actual thoughts or a Nat-specific soundtrack rant but I imagine this one could be helpful to writers or smthing so I'm posting it as is.

'New Order 1987' -> I think this is their 1987 compilation Substance aka Substance 1987

'Crawford Mix' - the 1st Crawford that came to my mind here is the music journalist Scott Crawford who wrote and directed Something Better Change, a documentary about D.O.A's frontman Joey Shithead, amongst other things. In the 80s-90s he covered the Washington, DC punk scene; maybe Nat is an avid Metrozine reader and made a tape based on Crawford's recs? Music nerd Nat confirmation or does someone else have a less convoluted take?

'Halloween Mix'

'Fine Young Cannibals' - This definitely has some double meaning esp since it's p different from her other stuff

Dinosaur Jr. - Without A Sound. It's blurry as hell but imo the layout + colors are a perfect match. Also: methinks this is a strong contender for Nat's fave album/artist; it's the only tape that doesn't look self-made and in the 1x04 flashback Nat and Kevyn Tan listen to 'Feel the Pain' (the album's opener) and he tries to impress her by claiming that Kurt Cobain wanted J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.'s singer-guitarist) to join Nirvana (it's true btw)

'Mix For Nat' (this is the mixtape made by Kevyn that Nat retrieves in 1x04; the connect-the-dots-Os match)

'The Gathering' They've undergone a few genre chances since but the Gathering of 1990s was a metal band

'The Actors/The Gathering' - I'm not certain about. Actors (without the the) is a post punk/dark wave band that I do think Nat would dig but it's presence here is a anachronism; the band was formed in 2012. My money is that "The Actors/The Gathering" is just a lil wink from the set designers

this one I think says "SUMMER 4EVER" but it's honestly anyone's guess

Or there is a Meghan O'Neil (Pennie) whose music I think Nat would enjoy. She has a signature dark pixie which this poster could reference - but why would the name be spelled wrong?

Nat's room has a shitload of Sub Pop stickers(??) In the flashback, Nat and Kevyn actually talk about Nirvana leaving Sub Pop, an indie record label, for a major label deal.

MEGAN O'NEIL WHO ARE YOU? She has me crashing out. The poster is v visible during the 1x04 scenes at the Scatorccio trailer so idk why they would make two posters for an artist that doesn't exist. If you have any information about Megan 0'Neil, Schrödinger's missing niche (or I'll feel v stupid) riot grrrl act, please reach out!

In 1x02, Nat wears a Black Sabbath shirt - my best guess is that it's for Heaven and Hell but honestly metal isn't my sandbox so idk

Nat wears a Death to the Pixies shirt (which refers to the Pixies' 1997 compilation album) in 1x02 and 1x03 (pictured)

In 1x05, Nat wears a Pink Floyd Europe '77 shirt - if you want to take this as an indication of her fav Pink Floyd album, the 1977 In the Flesh tour was for Animals (1977) but they also performed the all of Wish You Were Here (1975)

In 1x09 and 1x10, she wears and Amyl and the Sniffers shirt

And here are my thoughts and theories on each of them (as well as fourth-wall breaks, and theories I do not like):

Mrs Flood:

She is Susan. I believe that ‘Susan’ Twist is a red herring, and Susan deserves her return. The fact that Ruby mentioned that she would be living in her time makes me even more sure, especially considering Ruby’s tendency to make things ‘happen’ - Strictly, Star Trek - more on that later.

She is River Song. A huge jump in likelihood, because I do believe her story is over, but you never know, and I don’t think I would be complaining about her return particularly. We don’t know Mrs Flood’s first name, which might be for a reason. Melody Pond, River Song and then xxxx Flood.

She is the One Who Waits. I’m going to probably say this about everyone but… idk what else to say. sHe’S tHe RaNi!!!11!!

Susan Twist:

She is the One Who Waits/part of the Pantheon of Gods. It just seems likely.

She is Ruby/Ruby’s mother. Seems the least likely, but in that case it would be a situation of ‘watching over’ Ruby in a way, but Susan Twist looks nothing like Ruby, so very unlikely.

She is no one/a spy. This works well for my first point regarding Ruby’s parent, but I think she might be a spy for The Trickster to keep an eye on the Doctor/Ruby. They could also be the same thing as the ‘Bad Wolf’, ‘Torchwood’ and ‘Vote Saxon’ - they don’t make sense until the finale, she might not make sense until the finale.

The One Who Waits:

Obviously one of the pantheon of Gods - I do believe the most powerful.

Probably Ruby’s mother, or someone related to Ruby.

We don’t know who they are yet. Some new guy. Hoping any one of these.

Ruby’s Parent:

THE TRICKSTER FROM THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES! The hood and cloak are the same, the desolate London is so similar and the theme when Maria has The Trickster’s box in her bed and when Ruby was hoisted into the air is the same - please just search on youtube, it will probably be there. Plus, The Trickster would work well with the Pantheon of Gods - the Gods of CHAOS - what The Trickster thrives on.

A powerful being from the Gods of Chaos - an evil thing, the One Who Waits.

Someone the Doctor may recognise - though I doubt it somehow.

Ruby:

The daughter of one of the Gods of Chaos - you cannot deny her powers, in terms of the snow, mentioning things and then they exist - she mentions the Butterfly Effect- it happens. She mentions Star Trek in Space Babies, and the crew are dressed in uniforms eerily similar to the Star Trek ones. She mentions Strictly - who come but Johannes and Shirley from Strictly.

A supernatural entity - like a changeling, or something like that. The DNA scan said she was human, but it was only 70% done - that might be foreshadowing something - in terms that she is not human. In The Wild Blue Yonder, The Doctor let superstition come in - maybe he also let Ruby in.

A bad guy. One of the Gods of Chaos, the One Who Waits. Getting close to The Doctor all this time… maybe this won’t even be revealed until series 15. That would be great in my opinion honestly!

The last episode - ‘The Legend of Ruby Sunday’ makes me believe that she is older than she is. It is not the story, it is the legend - the Google definition being ‘a traditional story sometimes popularly regarded as historical but not authenticated. Not a word being used for a 19-year-old girl from Manchester, methinks.

Fourth-wall breaks: The Legend of Ruby Sunday seems to be based on a TV show - now we get to the ‘Doctor Who’ is a TV show in ‘Doctor Who’ - e.g. The Doctor can hear the non-diegetic music. I think this is a great idea. (I have written a fan-fiction about this 2 years ago hehe).

I DO NOT think these theories are true: 

The Doctor is Ruby’s parent. Nope. Too obvious, lazy and just plain weird.

Ruby is Ruby’s parent?? Weird and impossible. Very very timey-wimey.

The Master is returning - I don’t think they are this series - keep in mind that we only last saw them 6 episodes as of now (after Boom - not counting The Tooth).

idk guys but the urgency I’m getting from q!Bad’s 4D chess moves lately is making me concerned. he is usually calm and collected when orchestrating stuff but the past few days has shown the opposite, he’s acting quickly

he even blatantly said that he’s trying to help q!Cellbit asap- because they are close friends, he feels responsible to help, but also because he was “relying on cellbit’s mental state to be stable for what could happen” which is…. really worrying to say?? and today he rushed to drop baghera on bagi’s doorstep and have them talk because “we need to rely on our friends. somewhat.”

It’s very obvious q!Bad is trying his best to hurry up a possible q!Cellbit solution + attempt to unite his friends before the 4th.

Personally? I’m thinking the urgency is because his help is needed right now, and past the 4th he won’t be available to help anymore- and knows it, so he needs to do as much as possible now. and he would’ve liked q!Cellbit to be the mentally sound one if he can’t be. methinks down in purgatory he will go one-track mind to save the eggs, and based off the things he’s saying….

Onyx Storm RECAP ch19-ch21

Alright, activate Quest Mode...

Who is on the journey to retrieve the citrine? Violet, Xaden, Mira, Aura Beinhaven, Grady, others we don't care about.

WTF is the citrine? It’s a non-precious gem, yellow-brown, the kind of crystal you find in a hippie shop alongside tarot cards. They are mined in Poromiel & each griffin flier receives one at graduation. The one they’re retrieving belonged to the first griffin flier. Violet is going to give it to the king of Deverelli, who collects rarities, in exchange for a meeting.

WTF is happening in ch19?

Quest squad is flying over the border and outside the wards. Violet feels the wild magic outside the wards and has the urge to pull threads of magic from the sky around her. (Hmm)

Andarna stayed behind the wards. We learn that dragons & riders can't be far apart for extended periods of time. After 12 hours there will be pain for the rider; after 3 or 4 days there will be death.

They arrive in Anca, which has been drained & desiccated by venin. As long as nobody channels magic, they should be invisible to the enemy. The mission goes to shit when Aura freaks out at the sound of a door opening. She wields fire (uh-oh) and toasts Grady to death (um, fine?). Then the venin attack. Aura gets killed by a wyvern trying to evacuate.

Thanks to Mira they got the citrine, but the mission was a clusterfuck. Theophanie left a note for Violet with the citrine, which means she's a step ahead of them already.

WTF is happening in ch20?

Violet is in research mode. She's reading tons of books and connecting the dots on her dad's work, but she's not telling us (the readers) much yet.

Ridoc confronts Violet about wanting to join the next iteration of Quest Squad. He tells her when Violet is separated from her squad, that's when bad things happen to her. He also does a creepy cool thing of freezing all the water in an orange he's holding, which feels like foreshadowing of JfB's doom.

Violet meets with the Senarium and other assorted assholes (Halden, Aetos, Markham). The Senarium has new, annoying demands like putting Anna in control of the mission and allowing Markham & Melgren to search Aretia for "clues." (Creeps!)

Violet shuts it all down and demands control of the mission on the authority of her dragons & the Empyrean. Halden grants her permission to choose her squad for the next mission but threatens to negate the Aretia Accord (that gave Xaden his title) if she fails.

The assembled group hates Violet's choices, especially Xaden but also the Cordella fliers. Duchess of Morraine is trying to marry her daughter to Xaden. (Bitch)

Xaden tells Halden he's not the boss of him, that he only asks permission of "one person on the Continent" and looks to Violet. Tremendous Wife Guy energy and also direct rebellion against Haldon LOL. Violet & Xaden are gonna do whatever they want and it's obvious no one can stop them.

Mira meets Drake Cordella and immediately knees him in the balls. I can't wait for these two idiots to hook up.

While Violet has been reading her dad's journal, Mira has been reading Lilith's journals (interesting).

Who is going on the mission to Deverelli? Violet, Xaden, Mira, Ridoc, Cat, Drake, Halden, Anna (his guard), Trager (another griffin flier), and Dain Aetos.

WTF is happening in ch21?

Quest squad arrives in Cordyn. The griffins are carrying Halden & Anna in baskets??!!! There is no way this isn't absolutely fucking ridiculous looking. Violet is carrying something in a special pack that she leaves with Tairn.

Rooms are in short supply at Tecarus's mansion, and Xaden baits Halden into denying that he has any authority as a professor here, so Xaden can take an exhausted Violet into his room to sleep. There are several moments here where Xaden is reading Violet's mind (???), but she thinks she's talking down the wrong bond or talking out loud because she's exhausted. Methinks he's no longer simply reading "intentions" (and Violet agrees) but who knows!

Tecarus takes Halden & Anna by boat to Deverelli, so the riot can follow after some rest.

As Violet & Tairn fly over the ocean, the loss of magic begins to weaken the dragons and prevent them from "talking" to each other. Violet can no longer speak to Xaden through their bond, but she can still speak to Tairn & Andarna.
