and yet...

Broken, surviving, it feels like I can’t get away from you sometimes. 

One sentence sends fear down my spine. I shudder--my only hope is that my outward appearance does not give away the terror in my soul.

His darkness, I’ve allowed to consume me. What was once an easy love had become one of the greatest nightmares in history. The muffled screams, choking past tears as I used to cover up the bruises with a smile and an “I’m fine”. It’s been years...and as hard as I fought to get away from him, I allowed a piece of him to remain. 

I hate that. 

He no longer lives in my nightmares, but when insecurity creeps in, the darkness rears it’s ugly head.

and yet...

the morning sun warms me. The love inside me says, “you’re okay. You are safe.” The gentle embrace of a new lover reminds me of my worthiness. When I look in the mirror, I exhale. The darkness cannot be seen on my body. I am not the ugly, worthless, wretched human that my past says I am.

I am worthy of love. 

I am a beautiful soul. 

I am kind. 

I am loving. 

and yet...
