Frottage

I took pictures of the objets/places I did my frottage on 

I don’t have pictures of the actual frottages  We walked around Margate together carrying big pieces of paper and pastels/carbon and recorded through frottage the patterns and textures of the town. It was nice to walk slowly and observe our surroundings. This procedure was taken by one fo the rules. If we had followed the rule by the letter we would have had photocopied the forttages 50 times and the handed them in on the street to passerby. Which didn’t happen.  However, a similar idea was applied by Esme to the creation of mini hand-bounded books.

3rd drawing module: Group project/forttage

In this module, we worked as a group for the first time during the first course, we had a lot of ideas to begin with which led us to some disagreements and we faced some struggles but then we worked it out and came up with a result that we were pleased with. 

We decided to take a rubbing of a gate on a curtain’s fabric, and then we started rendering the top realistically. As we went down to the bottom of the fabric we began to render it abstractly and illusionistically.

SURRÉALISME Le surréalisme est un mouvement artistique apparu en France à partir de dadaïsme, au début des années 1920, autour de la personnalité du poète André Breton, avec la publication de "Manifiesto Surrealista". Être familier avec Freud pensait de la possibilité offerte par la psychanalyse comme méthode de création artistique. Le repprochement exploité par la fin des années vingt avec les communistes a produit la séparation du groupe. En 1930, Breton a publié son Deuxieme Manifeste du surréalisme) Le mouvement finir en 1946.   Le surréalisme se trouve dans un contexte de période d´entre les deux guerres, le fascisme, la crise économique, mais aussi le boom économique, le Jazz, le développement de la technologie et de plastique, et critique de la société. L'origine du surréalisme se trouve dans le dadaïsme qu´il défend, liberté, contradiction, scandale et le ironi.   La production surréaliste caractérisé par un nombre illimité d'appels libertaire et l'exaltation du processus de rêve, humour corrosif et passion érotique, conçu comme une arme de lutte contre la tradition culturelle bourgeoise. Pour les Surréalistes le travail né de pur automatisme, à savoir, toute forme d'expression dans lequel l'esprit n'exerce aucun contrôle. Ils essaient de capturer à travers des images symboliques abstraites ou figuratives de la réalité plus profonde des formes de l'être humain, l'inconscient et le monde des rêves Surréalisme a été caractérisée par l'interprétation de la réalité du rêve, l'inconscient, de la magie et de l'irrationalité. Ressources utilisées: Une animation de l'inanimé, un isolement de fragments anatomiques, des éléments incongrus, des métamorphose, des machines fantastiques, des relations entre des nus et machines, une évocacion du chaos.   Techniques et méthodes surréalistes: - La photographie, la cinématographie et de la production d'objets (extrait de dadaïsme). - Collage et assemblage d'objets incongrus (également hérités du dadaïsme, des personnages comme Marcel Duchamp). - Les Forttage (dessins réalisés par le frottement des surfaces rugueuses contre le papier ou la toile). - Technique "Exquisite Corpse" ou la peinture automatique (plusieurs artistes ont tiré les différentes parties d'une figure ou un texte sans voir le travail des images précédentes, la réalisation intéressante et illogique). - Automatique (toute forme d'expression dans lequel l'esprit n'exerce aucun contrôle). - Inspiration dans la pensée cachée et interdite, les réalités de rêve découvrir l'érotisme et le sexe sera traité d'une manière obscène. - Ils sont également intéressés à l'art des peuples primitifs, l'art des enfants et les fous. - Préférence pour les titres longs, ambigus, mystérieux. - Décalcomanie. - Grattage. André Breton (1896 - 1966): fondateur du surréalisme et défenseur des fondements de ce mouvement. Il a écrit des essais et d'autres genres, mais a noté tout particulièrement dans la poésie. Parmi ses livres de poésie sont pawnshop, Cohabitation, cheveux blancs Revolver et Pez soluble. “L´acte surréaliste le plus simple consiste, revolvers aux poings, à descendre dans la rue et à tirer au hasard, tant qu´on peut, dans la foule. Qui n´a pas eu, au moins une fois, envie d´en finir de la sorte avec le petit système d´avilissement et de crétinisation en vigueur a sa place toute marquée dans cette foule, ventre à hauteur de canon. La légitimation d´un tel acte n´est, à mon sens, nullement incompatible avec la croyance en cette lueur que le surréalisme cherche à déceler au fond de nous. J´ai seulement voulu faire rentrer ici le désespoir humain, en deçà duquel rien ne saurait justifier cette croyance.” André Breton, Deuxième Manifeste du Surréalisme.  Paul Eluard (1895 - 1952): a d'abord été dadaïste puis adhéré au surréalisme, où il a contribué des œuvres comme Die ne mourrai pas, la liberté ou l'amour et la preuve poétique. Notez que en Espagne la plupart des écrivains de la Génération de '27 enthousiasmé avec le surréalisme, et son influence a été vu dans de nombreux ouvrages de ce mouvement. Des contributions espagnoles à ce mouvement en Espagne sont trés important. Salvador Dalí, Luis Buñuel, Oscar Dominguez, Joan Miro et Pablo Picasso sont les plus importants. DANS LE PEINTURE Max Ernst (1891 - 1976): sur la base de ses peintures sur des symboles et des chiffres difficiles à reconnaître et à identifier comme Elephant de Célèbes, Surréalisme et la peinture, Œdipe roi, mon ami Pierrot, La nymphe Echo, La joie de vivre, Medusa Colorado . Joan Miró (1893 - 1983): a développé un système basé sur l'abstraction et à son tour relié à la nature du surréalisme. Ses travaux incluent le jardin, la terre labourée, Le Jardin, Carnaval de L'Arlequin et le chien aboyer à la lune.
