Jackie Mclean"Bluesnik" 60年代マクリーンのいくつかの作品から、メンバーと匂いで本作をチョイスしてみました。 1961年1月8日、Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, NJ録音。オリジナルは、Blue Note BLP 4067、本盤は東芝EMIからの1991年3月27日発売｢ブルーノートLP最後の復刻  - BLUE NOTE ザ・4000番台コレクション(予約限定盤)｣の第5回、BST 84067。非常に状態が綺麗です。 このシリーズは｢JAZZの音・ウェストレックス3D-Ⅱでカッティング｣で、RVGだが音質に期待。 Shure SC35Cの針を落としてみます。録音評は... 相変わらずのBlue Note、アルトとトランペット主体、リズム・セッションはレンジの狭いスカスカの音質。ベースは弱く、ピアノは硬い。軽くて高音域寄りのバランスで、少々疲れます。 さて、Shure M44-7に替えてみます。尖るかと思いきや、アルトとトランペットは落ち着いて馴染むのは意外。フレッシュなサウンドも合致している感じ。チャンネル・セパレーションや楽器の分解能も素晴らしいですね。リズム・セッションは割りきった方が良いと思います。 それから演奏ですが、皆同じように聴こえてしまうのは私だけ？曲調がソニー・クラークの"Cool Struttin'"に似ているかなぁ。ハバードのトランペットは結構強烈。 Producer - #AlfredLion #JackieMcLean (as) #FreddieHubbard (tp) #KennyDrew (p) #DougWatkins (b) #PeteLaRoca (ds) Recording by #RudyVanGelder Cover Photo by #FrancisWolff Cover Design by #ReidMiles 聴かずにスルーは出来ないこの布陣。 マクリーンの1960年代は、従来の演奏から脱皮を試みようとしていた時期です。本作はその初期の頃なので、従来路線に適度に新鮮味が加わった感じ。なので、｢ブルース族｣と言うタイトル通り全編ブルースのアルバムではあるものの従来のブルースではなく、新しいブルースを模索し提案しているよう。いわゆる、後の新主流派に通じる予感のするアウトしたフレーズを発見することが出来ると。60年代のマクリーンのアルバムの中では、突拍子もない方向にそれほど向かっていない点では、聴きやすいアルバムかと。 トランペットはフレディ・ハバード、もしかしたら本作の主役はハバード？と思ってしまうかも。特有のブライトな音色を存分に発揮したアドリブ、いつもの自信に満ち溢れたプレイ。ハバードの隠れた好演集との評価、同感です。 ピアノはケニー・ドリュー。新しさと泥臭すぎない洗練されたブルース・フィーリングが同居。流暢にチック・コリアのようなフレーズを弾いたかと思うと、次にはベタな4ビート。マイナーなドリューらしからぬモダンなフレーズが現われては消え、鍵盤の上で試行錯誤を繰り返すピアノが興味深いと。 オーソドックスなハード・バップに少しだけ新しい響きが融合、エネルギッシュな演奏が聴き応えのあるアルバムだと。 楽曲はすべてメンバーのオリジナルで、マクリーン作が1-1 "Bluesnik",1-2 "Goin' Way Blues"の2曲、ドリュー作が1-3 "Drew's Blues",2-1 "Cool Green",2-3 "Torchin'"の3曲、ハバード作が2-2 "Blues Function"で、どれも注目の全6曲。 マクリーンの2-1 "Cool Green"は、ケニー・ドリュー自身の1955年録音"Talkin' & Walkin'/ Kenny Drew"で"Minor Blues (Blues in a Cardboard Box)"というタイトルの再演らしく、Dマイナーのブルース進行でキーA♭のイントロとエンディングがつけられていて意外性があって面白い曲のようですよ。 #jazz #fuzey #vinyl #jazzvinyl #vinylcollection #ジャズ #スイングジャーナル #レコード #ビニールレコード *作品を知るとジャズはもっと輝きます。情報くださる先輩諸氏に感謝。 https://www.instagram.com/p/CVoa2dZvoaN/?utm_medium=tumblr

#BlueTrain: John Coltrane and Lee Morgan at the legendary “Blue Train” recording session for Blue Note Records in 1957. In my opinion, John Coltrane was the best saxophonist ever, followed by #CharlieParker. Also in my opinion (much more controversial) Lee Morgan was the greatest Trumpeter ever, followed very closely by #WoodyShaw and #MilesDavis.
