Young RinHaru is everything

I know this is my first post on this blog but it isn't my first time ranting, so buckle up and hear me out!

Also, disclaimer: my ships are my ships, and your ships are yours. If you're a MakoHaru or SouRin or basically anything but a RinHaru shipper, I respect you, and hope that you'll respect me in turn, so please don't attack me for my opinions ty!

Genuinely. What. Is up with Haru and Rin in the Free! movie about their youth??? "High Speed! Free! Starting Days!"????

Guys, it took me the longest time ever to even bring myself to watch that movie for 2 different reasons: 1) Rin was not in it, and 2) Someone on Reddit said it was very MakoHaru coded.

It's pretty obvious by the name of the post but I don't ship MakoHaru. Yes they have cute moments sometimes that melt my heart, but overall Haru takes Makoto for granted pretty often, and it only really hit him that he might lose his friend when Makoto said he was going to uni in Tokyo. Anyways, that's unrelated since I'm trying to talk about the movie, but yeah I really only see them as best friends that support each other.

Getting back to the main point, I really wasn't interested in watching a movie that not only didn't have my favorite shark in it, but also heavily featured a ship I didn't like. Then I decided those were pathetic reasons not to watch it, and the prospect of seeing young Makoto won me over.

And then I watched it. And.

Why didn't anybody tell me that despite the fact that Rin isn't even in this movie, the fact that he isn't there is driving the entire main conflict for Haru??? It was actually a crazy surprise, I wasn't expecting that at all and I was genuinely shook by it. Nearly the whole movie, Haru is plagued by loneliness and doesn't even realize he's lonely until Ikuya breaks down. And then he acknowledges that without Rin there, he was literally struggling. So much to the point that he hallucinated Rin being there and swimming with him. Nevermind the fact that Rin was in the same school as him for maybe 3 months, he had this big of an impact and it shows. Basically a lot of the movie was Haru being sad that Rin was gone, and he still angsts over him until episode 1 when Rin is back from Australia.

Also, his reaction to Rin's letter was so cute, and the letter itself killed me because it's so clearly a confession, one that Haru basically reciprocated. I know Japan likes censorship but oh my god Sousuke was trying to say it was a confession letter without saying it, because he said stuff like "you can see where Rin originally wrote you" and "it was one-sided like he wasn't expecting a response" (don't hold me to these, I'm a bit lazy to get the exact quotes).

You know when people do that? In CONFESSION LETTERS. And then Haru was like I want to be like you too Rin. And then I hear that this is MakoHaru coded? I mean the pool scene was cute but I wouldn't file this under the Makoharu folder just yet. I think it's one of those that goes under into the Undecided, along with Eternal Summer. I do think it's pretty obvious that the creators endgame was RinHaru though, considering what unfolded in The Final Stroke movie. I'm glad too, they finally stopped teasing millions of different ships for the sake of the fanbase, and just stuck to one.

It's pretty clear that people's ships definitely color their summary of events, seeing as the Reddit person told me this was MakoHaru without at all mentioning Rin. I do that often too, it's hard to not do so when you have an opinion, so the next best thing is to respect opinions :)

[Review] Free the Final Stroke Official Fanbook

So this fanbook came in the mail this week, and obviously I haven’t read the entire thing... But this book is so pretty! 

I’ll try my best to give review (and contain slight spoiler), but English is not my native, so please bear with me.  Every characters get their own pages (including side characters) and the staff and seiyuu wrote their impression for each characters. 

“I like Sousuke’s muscle the best” - Character Design staff

“Haru is someone that I cannot describe just with one word” - Shimazaki Nobunaga 

“Asahi is a mood-maker, but at the same time he’s a very complex individual who cover up his frustration behind all his positiveness” - Toshiyuki Toyonaga, etc 

And after characters design, they have the story recap and they show us the sketch and process of making the important scenes. They also gave some explanation behind some of the screens.. Like the metaphors of “Makoto and Goldfish” scene (if you know, you know). 

Lastly they have this cast and staff interviews. Unfortunately, for cast interview they only have Shimazaki-san and Miyano-san.

So what’s my verdict. 

Visually, it’s really really beautiful. They have a beautiful Sakura illustration on the end of the book. Also they re-draw the characters relationship, like Makoto-Haru and Ikuya-Hiyori here:

And what I mean by characters relationship is.. the whole characters! They even have Ryuuji and Kyo-oniichan on it. 

I feel like if you don’t understand Japanese, it might be difficult to read the book. But if you there for the visual (eg: scene details, costume details), you can go for it. 

In my opinion, there’re too many pages containing interview, I have’t read everything.. But for me, the interview pages are too wordy.

Nanase Haruka headcanons <3

Okey first of all i LOVE Free sm and i read all the scenarios i could find in here, so i'm writing about my boys <3

Haru is obviously a tsundere, a really stubborn but cute one.

He'll never admit that he has feelings for you to himself till makoto starts to push him out of his comfort zone. Even tho he actually tends to be so bold sometimes without even realizing it.

Haru will still be the same around you but with a little slight blush on his cheeks, and he'll smile softly whenever he sees you laughing or smiling.

You always tease him about it but he starts denying and tries his best to hold himself around you but he always fails.

Sneaking into swimming pools is Real, and you have to always prevent that from happening.

ALWAYS cooks Mackerel for you and even tries new recipes ( the team would be so damn surprised )

YOU'LL BE THE ONLY ONE HE'LL ANSWER WHEN YOU CALL HIM, everybody is now using you to check on haru whenever it's needed.

He'll tell you about Rin and Ikuya and asks you for advice, just don't push him too far.

He'll let you watch his practice whenever you want, even will offer to teach you if you don't know how to swim. ( He'll be happy about it )

Bonus if you like swimming as well, ENDLESS conversations about water and swimming.

You'll try to convince him to try some new techniques and he'll always lecture you about how he's FREE.

Tells Rin and Makoto about you and asks for advice.

He's so helpless when it comes to human relationships but he'll try to get closer to you.

CONFESSION IN A SWIMMING POOL AT NIGHT WHILE CHERRY BLOSSOMS ARE FALLING FROM ABOVE.

He'll be like " i wanna be free with you " and then he realizes he's being so silly he'll blush and turn away and start swimming.

Y/n: (jumping onto his lap) My summertimeee~

Natsuya: (throwing his phone aside, hugging you facefirst into your stomach) Mmmm my little bubbs~ Where have you been today~?

Y/n:(giggling, sitting upright on his lap, you catch the sight of his wallet on the table in front of you) Nothing much hehe! I was just gonna do something~

Natsuya: Oh? And that would beeee?

Y/n:(taking Natsuya's wallet and opening it)

Natsuya:(quickly snatches the wallet from your hands and holds it high above your reach) Not so fast~ sneaky little fella aren't ya? Why do you need money from me?

Y/n: I.....I don't-!

Natsuya: (pinching your nose) Sure sure and the sun is actually covered in ice

Y/n: okok... No need to be that sarcastic... I was not trying to borrow money anyway...I wanted to keep this in your wallet...(hands him a neatly carved, round gemstone)

Natsuya: (admiring it carefully) what's this y/n?

Y/n: it's a good luck stone!I bought it cuz the shrine lady told me it would protect the person I gave it to!

Natsuya: (putting it in his pocket and punching your shoulder lightly) I already have my good luck charm right here~ I don't need another one?

Y/n: But I still want you to keep it with you. ALWAYS. I don't want you to ever get hurt 😤

Natsuya: (kissing your forehead and lifting you from your waist) Hahahaha, well if you insist!

(This guy is all games. He won't take your prank seriously, he'll probably see through it as he knows you very well, but rest assured, he's definitely showering you with return gifts once he gets the chance)

Sousuke: (doing grips in one hand and reading a book)

Y/n: (walks over to his wallet, giving him a glance before you take it)

Sousuke: (looks at you and smiles) Yo! G'morning

Y/n:(just nods, Picks his wallet and starts going through it)

Sousuke: (frowns, walks over to you and grabs his wallet) If you wanted money, you know you can just ask me? Now you're not getting it

Y/n:(looks at him, confused)

Sousuke:(sighs) What. Don't act surprised..

Y/n:(taking out a small penny and showing it to him) I had found this randomly under our bed...I thought it's yours so I wanted to keep it back in your wallet....

Sousuke: oh .... Sorry... And that is yours...

Y/n:huh?I don't keep pennies though...

Sousuke: (clenches it in your hand and smiles, walking back to the couch) it's a special one. I'm sure it's yours.

Y/n: (confused, walks back into their room) I really don't think.....I wouldn't just leave my spare change about...

Y/n: (takes a closer look at the penny and notices a small dent in it) special huh...

Y/n: (scratches at the dent, and it opens up) aha! So there's something inside..

Y/n:(takes off the metallic cover it the penny, and inside is a small, beautiful picture of you. You stare at it in awe, taking in its creativity) This is....so pretty...

Y/n:(yells) Thank you sou! I love you!!

Sousuke: (smiles to himself) Aye.

(I need to stop turning these into fluff stories jkdsnjsajaf! Anyways, this man has everything planned out and WILL make your prank fail by being one step ahead iykwim)

Kisumi: (singing along to a song that's blasting in his headset, he looks very happy)

Y/n: (sneaks up behind him and takes his wallet with one hand and quickly hides it behind, while tickling him with the other to remove suspicion) (Writer:I DO NOT CONDONE STEALING DON'T DO THIS SHIT IRL) Kissss-me!

Kisumi:( quickly turning around and catching you into a deep kiss, without warning)

Y/n:MMPHH!!

Kisumi: hehehe, so y/n~ what's the occasion?

Y/n:(trying to get yourself together) occasion?

Kisumi:(laughing and wrapping his arms around you, then quickly snatching back his wallet to your surprise)

Y/n:h-how did you-?

Kisumi: (narrowing his eyes) You didn't think I'd notice? Hehehe sneaky little one aren't you? (Comes close to your face) you do know that 'stealing' is bad manners, don't you? Unless you have a good reason to take my money like this, I'm not letting you off~

Y/n: it's not what you think...

Kisumi: oh~? Then what is it?

Y/n:(grabs his hand and puts a folded cheque on it)

Kisumi: 7500¥.... What's this y/n?

Y/n:(smiles at him and kisses his cheek) my first paycheck. I wanted to share it with you, since you're the reason I could push ahead and get this job. Thank you!

Kisumi: (stares at you for a couple of minutes, then hugs you tightly) You deserve everything in the world y/n! Look at this!! This is all yours! I didn't do anything hehehe! Let's go celebrate this right now! (You can feel his face getting a little wet from the few tears of happiness he shed

(This guy, will definitely see through the prank so you'd have to be smart, though now, a day full of celebration awaits, and who knows, at the end of it, you might recieve something special from him👀✨)

Asahi:(in his room, trying out outfits that he bought recently) Hmmmm.....

Y/n:(peeks inside) Asahiii~

Asahi: oh! Hey there y/n! Come in, I'm done changing.

Y/n: (sits on his bed, right next to his wallet that was lying around) hehehe thank you, so how are they?

Asahi: I like them! All of them fit perfectly and they look good too. Make me look hot~

Y/n: Aren't you already hot though ~

Asahi: (blushing a bit) I need to be centre of your attention so no other guy would catch your eye

Y/n:(laughing at his confidence and slowly taking his wallet) hehehe, in that case I need to up my game too y'know? I don't want you looking at anyone else as well(taking out a picture from his wallet and replacing it with a golden chain)

Asahi: (sees his wallet in your hands and the you just did something with it) Hey! What are you doing??

Y/n:(quickly putting aside the wallet) Huh? What do you mean??

Asahi:(comes close to your face and eyes you) HMMMMM I'm not that dumb y/n... You took money from my wallet didn't you?

Y/n: wha-no?

Asahi: fine. Don't tell me. I'm not talking to you then(pouts and turns away)

Y/n: ok check it if you want(handing over his wallet)

Asahi:(side-eyeing you and looking into his wallet) hmm whatever you say..

Asahi:(takes out the gold chain) Wh-What is this?? Y/n is this yours??

Y/n:(kisses his cheek) that's for you my adorable love~

Y/n:(comes back with a box and secretly hiding his money in your pocket) yess??

Ikuya: How much did you take??

Y/n: oh do the math hehehe

Ikuya: (sighs) I don't like this y/n... You didn't even have the basic decency of asking for permission before touching my wallet. You're my partner... But... Can't you give me some respect? Not only that... But you took a good amount from my wallet.... Did you ask if you could borrow money? What if I had really needed it? Have you been doing this for a while now? Is that why you're so comfortable with doing it?

Y/n:(yeah he's going to make you question why you pulled this prank on him) I....

Ikuya: Did you give it to the delivery person? Where's my money right now?

Y/n:(quickly takes out his money and hands it back)....sorry..

Ikuya: (shaking his head and counting) Sorry doesn't cut it y/n...I needed this for groceries too... We would've gone hungry otherwise..

(you two sit there for at least the next twenty or so minutes. Though, you quickly manage to make it up to him by treating him to his favourite snacks and ice cream, he was definitely cheered up by the end of the day)
