If I had 1 Euro for every straightwashed Musical about an obviously queer German King featuring a dramatic embrace with their totally platonic lover and a song that makes building their signature palace a metaphor for a brighter future, I could get myself a piece of banana bread at the Uni café.
ANyway here’s the animatic for “Bienvenue in Sanssouci” from Friedrich- Mythos und Tragödie I made a couple months back. Featuring Voltaire, Maupertuis, and Algarotti and d’Arnaud in that order of appearance lol. Obviously inspired by 90s Disney villain songs. And definitely channeling Kathy Zielinski’s Frollo for V’s design. Translations by @kattestrophe!
Edit: now with subtitles hopefully! They were being buggy before

New English Subtitles for Friedrich - Mythos und Tragödie (The Musical about Frederick the Great)
I have just finished my correction of my subtitles from four years ago. They are probably still far from perfect, but they should suffice to understand the musical if you do not speak German and they are definitely better than they were (more legible and made with a better understanding of the text).
If anyone wants to see the musical for themselves, feel free to message me!
