Frieza

"[Name]? Are you alright?"

"Wuuuh? Yeeah, a-OKAY!"

You were not.

First you were quiet

Then you were quietly crying

"What saddens you, my dear?"

"I-We-You're so preeety. Why are you so pretty... it's not-it's not faaaair," you whined with a sob, forehead smacking against the table.

Frieza didn't know whether to be concerned or flustered. Both?

The next stage was depression

"I must escape my despair. Can you drown from whiskey?" you asked yourself blankly.

Then you were happy as could be.

"Frieza, look! A butterflyyyyy!"

"That's a chandelier, darling," he chuckled.

"But-but it looks like a butterfly...Frieza can we get a butterfly? I really, really want one."

Consider it done, you spoiled brat.

And from happiness, you become flirtatious.

Your hand brushes up his arm, "I'd love to see these arms caged around me. Are you single?"

He couldn't help but smirk past his blush, "No, I'm quite taken I'm afraid."

"Are they-hic-Are they cute?"

"Very, the cutest."

"I guess I have no chance then, woe is me!" you sigh dramatically.

And the last stage, you fall asleep, cuddled into your ice jin.

A shame you were too intoxicated to feel the kiss brush your temple.

King Cold

You were much more flirtatious than usual

Bold enough to say the things you wouldn't usually

You tried to cooly lean against the table but fell, you quickly got back up and played it off. Smooth for a drunk.

"Hey handsome, aside from being this good-looking, what else do you do in your free time?"

And he'll happily flirt back in amusement.

"I’d like to take you to the movies, but they don’t let you bring in your own snacks," you grip his thighs as you lean in.

He quite liked you like this, he had to admit.

"Neither of us would be able to attend if that were the case."

Somehow you ended up in his lap, brushing your fingers up and down his horns.

"If you let me borrow a kiss, I promise I’ll give it right back."

"That sounds like a deal."

You traded sloppy kisses until you grew tired and decided to take a snooze.

He couldn't promise to not let you get drunk again. You were quite amusing.

Cooler

Usually, you were more on the serious side, so it was nice to see you let loose.

"Hey, Cooler, let's dance!" you giggled.

No one was looking, so maybe a little dancing would be okay.

"But I don't know how."

"I'll teach you!"

Your teaching skills were a little sloppy drunk, but he got the point.

Swaying with you made him feel like he was in a different world

Your laughter filled the room.

That was all the music he needed.

You catch him staring at some point through your drunken haze

"Whaaa?"

"I want to kiss you."

"Do it then, coward," you tease.

Cooler isn't one to challenge.

Though the unexpected softness of his kiss almost stunned you out of your intoxication.

"I adore you..."

"And I want you to do that again."

Most Horrible DBZ Fight?

Whenever I watch the Videl vs Spopovich fight, I see all these comments about how it is the most brutal fight in DBZ. I think people only say that because Videl is a girl. Because this fight

Can't be compared to this fight

As much as I feel sorry for Videl and as much as Vegeta was still a selfish jerk in the namek/frieza saga, the comparison is not even close.

Let me explain!

History between combatants

Videl has no history with Spopovich. He is almost a nobody to her. The dude hates her dad because Mr. Satan beat him in a fight. He hurt her to get sick revenge on her dad. Nothing deeper than that.

Frieza and Vegeta have a rich and terrible history. Frieza is the monster who destroyed Vegeta's planet when he was 5. Still a kid. He worked in Frieza's planet trade organization, believing the lie that his home was destroyed by a meteor or asteroid or something like that. While Frieza humiliated him, he also had a kind of sick fondness for Vegeta. You can interpret this fight as Vegeta's attempt to overcome his abuser, in addition to proving himself as the super saiyan of legend. This gives the fight way more emotion and meaning compared to the Videl fight which basically just had shock value going for it.

Power Imbalance

Vegeta was doomed from the start, even with his Zenkai boost. Frieza toyed with him from beginning to end. Towards the end of the fight, Frieza drops all pretence of a battle and just wails on Vegeta like a punching bag.

With Videl, Spopovich was the underdog in the fight at the start. She was holding her own and she even landed a killing blow. She began to lose due to stamina. If Videl had fought smarter and tried to end the fight with a ring out, she would have won. If it was not for his Majin powers, he would be dead. But as the fight continued, she lost steam and Spopvich gained the upper hand and began pummelling her.

Stakes

Pretty obvious. The fight with Frieza had galactic consequences. Kami, King Kai and Guru were involved. Planet Namek was destroyed. The fight with Frieza was life and death. Most people in the battle died or nearly died.

Videl's fight was an inconsequential tournament fight. Not even the semi-finals or finals. You can say that's why Spopovich's brutality is so horrible because the context has lower stakes. Which leads me to my final and most important point!

Escaping the Fight

There was no escaping Frieza unless you died or he died. Once Vegeta confronted Frieza, he had no avenue of escape. You can't simply tap out of this fight. Even if he ran away using a space pod before the enraged Frieza showed up, he would be on the run for the rest of his life. Piccolo, Gohan and Krillin literally watched Frieza play with Vegeta because they were totally powerless. All they could do was watch Vegeta's humiliation.

Ultimately, it is Videl's fault that she was beaten so badly. Yeah, I said it! All she had to do was say "I give up" and the fight would be over! But because of her stubbornness and pride, she willingly stayed in a losing fight. Even when Spopovich is literally crushing her skull, she won't give up.

I can admire her resolve but this reason alone is enough for me to say that Videl should not be pitied. And why this fight is NOT the most brutal DBZ fight. It only feels that way because Videl is a human girl and people naturally hate seeing men abuse women. But there are DBZ fights that outclass this one in brutality any day of the week (most Kid Gohan fights should top Videl vs Spopovich just on the basis that Gohan is a literal child!).

The Vegeta vs Frieza fight played a major role in Vegeta's arc. It helped Vegeta respect Goku and motivated him to achieve super saiyan. It also gave Vegeta emotional depth.

Can't say the same for Videl. Her personality did a total 180 after her fight. Almost like Spopovich beat the tomboy out of her. We also never see her confront her dad about all his lies, which partly influenced her somewhat unmerited pride as a fighter which led to her attitude in her fight. What a total waste of potential character development.

Goku: I was wondering... What can you tell me about Frieza?

Bardock: 💢

Goku: ...uh

Bardock: We don't talk about Frieza.

Goku: I know. But like hypothetically, if he were to see you...

Bardock: God damn it, Kakarot! Go do something useful before they get here.

Goku: I just wanna know if it was generally negative or, like, less negative...

Gine pops out of nowhere: It was insane!

Bardock: Gine.

Gine: There was this bright light and bah Bah Bah BOW!!!

Bardock: Gine!

Gine:🤭 what

Bardock: Ugh.

Bardock: We don't talk about Frieza, no, no, no. We don't talk about Frieza.

But!

Raditz was a little shi-

Gine: Raditz was a cutie

Bardock: The Prince was a baby, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky

Gine: And then King Cold's ship stopped by

Bardock: Frieza steps in with an ominous grin

Gine: Danger!

Bardock: You telling this story, or am I?

Gine: I'm sorry, Mr. Saiyantist🫡😋

Bardock: Called Saiyans home and cut us off

Gine: Bardock got the escape pod~

Bardock: In doing so, he blows us up

Gine: Believing tales of the gods~

Bardock: Ensuring his reign never stops

Gine: What a tragic day. What more to say

Both: We don't talk about Frieza, no, no, no. We don't talk about Frieza.

King Vegeta: Learned to live in fear of Frieza's temperance and grumbling. Figure out the best way to avoid the bodies tumbling. I associate the screams of pain with pointing hands.

pew, pew, pew

King Vegeta: Legacy and legions of the family's fumblings. Allied with a God that said our kind will need humbling. Grappling with prophecies they couldn't understand.

Do you understand?

Raditz: 5 foot 2 frame, slimey like a lizard.

When you catch his eye, the chills rival a blizzard

Yeah, he haunts your dreams.

Feasts on your screams.

Bardock: Hey! Hits Raditz upside the head

We don't talk about Frieza, no, no, no.

All: We don't talk about Frieza.

Selypa: They told us to join the fight while our comrades fled

Toma: Beat within an inch of life, hanging on by a thread

Toteppo: They told me all my hair would disappear. Now look at my head

All: Your fate is sealed when the icejin want you dead.

Prince Vegeta: He told me that the throne at his knees was predestined to never be mine

He told me that my power would thrive, so long as the saiyans stayed in line

Nappa: My leige, King Cold is on his way

King Vegeta: He told me that my son would be his

Taken away from me, a prize held as leverage

There's nothing I can do

Prince Vegeta: Third class. I want not a sound out of you.

King V: Is there nothing I can do!

Goku: uhm Frieza

Yeah, about that Frieza

I really need to fight this Frieza

Give me the strength to defeat that Frieza.

Raditz: Oh, your Highness, the emperor's here!! Gets smacked with a tail

And then Cacophony of Epicness.

So. Frickin. COOL.
