The story of Paul’s conversion journey reminds me that a kind of unholy zeal can seize anyone, including me, convincing us that we have power to convict others. The costs of such vehemence can be harmful. We might even become persecutors of those who are unlike us, as Paul was prior to knowing Christ. The trap is set when, overcome with zeal, I may pull others into my twisted vision of how things should be or could be.

But with Christ, there can be a better, holy zeal, one that offers others the freedom simply “to be.” With Christ, we gain a liberty to live wholeheartedly in truth. With Christ, loving companionship guides us and moves us forward, helping us to deepen our union with God and each other. In community, and as community, we expand and invite others into the fold of friendship and freedom. This is where true witness occurs; it makes love evident. In the communion, we offer a sign and proclaim the Gospel: With Jesus, we are free.

Deciphering solar magnetic activity: The (solar) hale cycle terminator of 2021

We previously identified an event in the solar timeline that appeared to play a role in how sunspot Cycle 23 (SC23) transitioned into sunspot Cycle 24 (SC24). The timeframe for this transition was rapid, taking place over a very short time and perhaps in a time as short as a single solar rotation. Further, we inferred that the transition observed was a critical moment for the Sun’s global-scale magnetic field as it was being manifest in the spatially and temporally overlapping magnetic systems belonging to the Sun’s 22-year (Hale) magnetic cycle. These events have been dubbed as Hale Cycle terminations, or ‘terminators’ for short. Subsequent exploration of the sunspot record revealed a relationship between terminator separation (as a measure of overlap in the Hale Cycles) and the upcoming sunspot cycle amplitude using a Hilbert transform. Finally, we extrapolated the contemporary sunspots data’s Hilbert phase function to project the occurrence of the SC24 terminator in Mid-2020 and inferred that this would result in a large sunspot Cycle 25 (SC25) amplitude. This paper presents observational evidence that the end of SC24 and the initial growth of SC25 followed a terminator that occurred in mid-December 2021 (approximately 12/13/2021). Using this December 2021 terminator identification we can finalize our earlier preliminary forecast of SC25 amplitude - anticipating a peak total monthly sunspot number of 184±17 with 68% confidence, and 184±63 with 95% confidence. Finally, we use other terminator-related superposed epoch analyses developed in parallel work we project the timing of SC25 sunspot maximum to occur between late 2023 to mid 2024.

Sister Thea (1937-1990) born in Canton, Mississippi, was a convert to Catholicism. At the age of 15, she moved to LaCrosse, Wisconsin, to join the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, where she became the only African-American member of the community. She taught at all grade levels, eventually earning her doctorate and becoming a college professor of English and linguistics.

She became an evangelist, assisted in the production of an African American Catholic hymnal, and was a popular speaker on faith and spirituality in her final years. Sister Bowman has been designated a “Servant of God”, a term for the first step in designating an individual who is being investigated by the Catholic Church for possible canonization as a saint.

I don’t like to get specific about my geographical location on here, but I feel so honored that I went to undergrad in the same small city as the community of Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration (FSPA) that Sr. Thea Bowman joined. They are incredible women, and they do so much homelessness, interfaith, suicide prevention, and environmental advocacy work in the city that it’s hard not to know them. I had professors at my secular state-funded university talk about how awesome they are.

I attended a tour of the garden at their convent for retired FSPA sisters, led by a sister with a PhD in environmental studies. The garden was wheelchair accessible with cherry tomato bushes pruned just so the sisters who enjoyed the garden in their wheelchairs could have a snack.

I have so many wonderful memories of the FSPA, and I had no idea that the legendary, iconic, and inspiring Sr. Thea Bowman was a member of the community until @and-her-saints shared this piece of art.

I dunno, I hope that this doesn’t sound like me bragging or anything. I’ve just been buzzing ever since I found out, and I’m honored to have her image in my home.

There are various types of microstrip antenna that can be used for many applications in communication systems. This paper presents the design of a folded shorted patch antenna FSPA for the application of Radio Frequency RF energy harvesting system capable of receiving radio frequency of GSM 900 band 860MHz to 960MHz . The antenna is designed using microstrip technology on an FR 4 substrate with a dielectric constant of 4.4 and a thickness of 1.6. The antenna was designed and simulated using FEKO, the Electromagnetic solver software. One slot is incorporated into the upper patch of the FSPA. Simulated results show that this antenna can attain an impedance bandwidth of 32MHz from 884MHz to 916MHz at the center frequency of 900MHz with the slot. The results also reveal the good unidirectional radiation pattern and the stable gain over the operating frequency. This antenna is well compatible with using RF energy harvesting to receive the signal of the GSM 900 band.

So I got harassed by an entitled jackass last week--with sockpuppets and refusal to stop commenting and everything--who wanted to take a fanfic idea that I had been working on and (paraphrasing slightly) "write stupid crackfic with it".

I told him no, and I got a tantrum in response.

The part that's bothering me, though, is that one of his sockpuppets tried to claim that by telling him no to his request, I was in violation of the law, as "telling this person "No, you can't use my idea or my work in your story." is, technically, illegal, and could make you end up in some hefty legal trouble with both Disney and Dreamworks.", giving a link to this post and saying "As for why the explanation in the link applies? Because by telling FSPA "no," one can technically make the argument you put an "all rights reserved" copyright on this work. Again, look at the link to see why, but that's illegal."

(I was not amused by the threat and reported the whole thing to the AO3 Abuse Team)

So, just to assuage my anxiety--and given that this person has already shown a pattern of entitlement, revenge attacks, and refusal to let go--can anyone offer some insight into whether this argument is all bullshit, partial bullshit, or actually has substance to it?
