"You know telling me that it's you sort of defeats the purpose of the haunting messages." Lunara said, coming straight up to Agatha after the last message she received, "You could just offer me a drink and chat."

ding, another death notification popped up on her phone. yes, brenda set up an alert. to make sure her friends are okay, she'd say. but, in reality, she enjoyed the sound of each ding. unfortunate how they lacked creativity. obviously they were aiming for quantity over quality. "there's been another death," she informed the person next to her. "people are just dropping like flies here. it's just so terrible, isn't it?" she asked in faux concern.

Those bulletpoint fics are some of my favorite crossover fics. The Sabriel girl genius crossover is still excellent. Actually all of the girl genius crossovers are my favorite
honestly the Girl Genius Abhorsen AU is probably to this day my favorite crossover fic I've ever written. The Heterodynes being a lineage of Free Magic sorcerers and necromancers who are functionally, accidentally, a bloodline of the Eighth Bright Shiner is just so perfect. The worldbuilding and multi-generational and mythological drama really came together.

another day, three more babies delivered. honestly, no matter how much addison wanted to have a child in her life, the thought of actually giving birth after watching happen time and time again was a bit daunting. women’s bodies were resilient, obviously, but there was always so much going on down there. ( not something she ever thought she’d have to think of outside of actual work, but as of late, yeesh. ) making her way to the bar after work, seemed like a plausible way to allow the worries of the day dissipate, and of course, it also helped that it was usually filled with familiar faces. a broad smile took over her features as she saddled up in a stool next to one in particular that she had always been rather fond of. “hey stranger.” the red head mused, looking in agatha’s direction. “what’s your pick of poison tonight?”

her eyes were narrowed as she scanned the crowded room, lips twisted into a frown. all she wanted was some food, but there was seemingly no available tables. that’s when her eyes landed on him. agatha had seen him briefly wandering around town and anyone attractive enough always peaked her curiosity. strutting over to where he was seated, she stopped just a step away, hand resting on the back of an empty chair in front of him. “you don’t mind some company, do you? I’m starving and there’s nowhere else to sit.”

aparta la mirada del mar, para observar a la chica unos segundos antes de devolverla a las calmas aguas, en donde nadaba su anzuelo. " no me gustan las fiestas. Finally got my nails done after like six weeks, and decided to treat myself to an extended cafe trip after to finish up another Elena Ferrante book. She's quickly becoming a favorite author and if you haven't read The Neopolitan Novels yet (starting with My Brilliant Friend) I'd highly recommend!

Ranna
Tumblr media
"Slaadi" © Wizards of the Coast, by Sam Wood
[New Year, New Monsters! I am feeling much less burnt out than I was for the back half of 2023, and have built up a small backlog of new writing. I'm going to keep monsters I post to 2/week for now, to give myself time to go through said backlog in case the burnout rears up again when I'm back to work.
So for my first trick, is a monster NPC I actually wrote back in like September, but didn't post. Consider her an epilogue to the whole "Monster Girl Summer" thing. Ranna is @strawberry-crocodile's character, and fits with some of my other monstrous NPCs. She's Doctor Shiny's main minion, and their relationship serves as sort of a nasty counterpart to Gigi and Priscilla's. Of course, if you just want to use the stat block as a particularly burly slaad enforcer type, that works just as well as Ranna's baroque and macabre backstory.]
Ranna CR 18 CE Aberration This blue, frog-like humanoid has a triangular fanged snout, warty skin and enormous claws growing from the backs of their hands. A red gemstone is embedded in their skull, right between the eyes.
Marina Rhynne was an alchemy student at Endirion School in Absalom, prone to anxiety and to thinking with her stomach. She caught the eye of Doctor Agatha Shiny, who used the pretext of a dinner invitation and offer of a graduate program to abduct her and implant her with an alchemically treated red slaad egg. Doctor Shiny succeeded in one of her goals, which was to cause memories to be passed from the host to the parasite, but failed in that the resultant blue slaad did not maintain the intelligence of her progenitor. The resultant slaad, named Ranna, could recall her previous life in a hazy, dream-like way, but the predominant personality trait that was carried over was hunger.
Ranna is now Doctor Shiny’s Number One Minion, her assassin, procurer and lover. If Doctor Shiny needs someone eliminated or an unusual creature captured and brought to her, Ranna is the one to do it. She usually tracks her targets as an unassuming humanoid until she can set up an ambush and remove her greater hat of disguise. Ranna fights with her natural weapons almost exclusively, although she does occasionally toy with targets by battering them with heavy objects hurled by telekinesis. Although she is lapdog-loyal to Doctor Shiny and always follows her instructions for her specified victims, Ranna enjoys collateral damage, which usually involves biting bystanders. She views any red slaadi that are created through chaos phagethe way a proud parent views their children, and is happy to hear of any death and destruction they create.
Ranna’s personality is playful in a cruel way. She sees her progenitor, Marina Rhinne, as a pathetic figure, and has an air of contempt towards academic pursuits in general. She still appears as Rhynne when abroad in Absalom, and is the terror of Endirion School’s faculty, staff and students as Doctor Shiny’s personal assistant. Ranna is happy to play the bad guy so that Doctor Shiny can maintain her impeccable public reputation, and takes matters into her own claws if anyone gets too close to the truth about Doctor Shiny’s goals and activities. Ranna tends to dispose of the evidence of her murders by eating the corpses of her victims. She is also an excellent chef. Doctor Shiny does not eat food that Ranna prepares unless she is very sure of where the meat came from.

A part 2 to Agatha's story with Robin. Sad at first, then payback😂
Ft: My headcanon that Robin can cause static shocks when he rubs his hands together and touches livings.
(TW: Death, Maggots, Sadness, Family trauma, Loss, Broken family)
She'd been down there for days. Crying. Sobbing. Mourning. Rogh had ushered all of the plague ghosts away from the basement when he placed her back down on the wooden table where she died; she wanted to be alone, Rogh could see it bright and clear. The plague ghosts, while good natured and willing to offer her comfort, were of no comfort at this time. Their doting and fussing made the already confused and frightened young maid wail for God to take her away now.
The plague ghosts held their tongues and did as asked when Rogh herded them up the wooden steps and onto the ground floor. Rogh grew concerned the second he left the girl alone, but he knew boundaries, and he knew he wasn't to overstep this one.
He slipped away from the plague ghosts on the third day, when it had gotten quiet, and returned to the basement. The girl sat curled up on the wooden table still stained with blood, her head still hidden beneath the burlap sack. She was still, calm and collected, but Rogh could tell she was still very much anguished.
"Me know..." Rogh said softly, being careful not to frighten her. Agatha didn't even flinch when she heard his voice, she just coiled her arms tighter around herself and rocked slightly.
"Me been there. It confusing first. Didn't know what happen..." Rogh sat himself down on the bottom step of the basement stairs and clasped his hands together, leaning forward on his knees.
"Woke up under tree which on fire. No know how it catch fire, but hear big roar in sky and big flash of light... Then nothin'...When me wake up, me go to get up, but- when turn around, me see... Me... 'Nother me, lying on grass..." Agatha slolwy rose her head from her knees when she took note of the twinge in his voice, a subtle crack. He cleared his throat and continued.
"... Know it was me, I seen what I look like from looking in puddle before, had same furs, same hair... See little white worm come from mouth, so I jump away and see tribe in distance. They come running so I run to them-...they run through me, no see me at all. They cry, some do big throw up. My sister do biggest cry, she slap other sister's hand when try to pull her away from the other me... " His voice was sullen, a far away look washed over his face. His voice became a monotone drawl of pain.
"Take big long time for my sister to cry no more. Then tribe wrap other me in mammoth hyde and put me in hole in ground... " Rogh turned his face away.
"... Then cover me up with dirt"
Agatha had let her arms relax as Rogh told his story, she felt much pity for the strange man.
"Tribe came back every now and then. Come stick spear in place where other me was found, call my name and look up at Moonah. I try to talk to tribe, but tribe not hear me anymore. Children cry and try to look for me, they not understand what 'gone' really mean, they just children... "
Agatha turned to face Rogh, her hands resting in her lap.
"Were thou sad?" Agatha's question made Rogh flick his head towards her.
"Big sad...Know pig headed man upstair say men not cry, but I cry long time when tribe go away".
"Why you cry?" Rogh asked as he tilted his head slightly and leaned forward more.
Agatha rose her hand to wipe the tears from her eyes, but stopped when she realised she wouldn't be able to because of the sack.
"Since I were a babe I hath been taught that St Peter would open his gates and welcome me to the heavens. But this doth not be heaven, sir, this be purgatory. I hath done no foul deed, sir. T'is not fair" Agatha's voice seemed to rise the more she spoke of the fate she was promised since birth.
"Name 'Rogh', not 'Sir'...and no, is not fair. What happen to little girl who done nothing wrong is not fair". He agreed.
Agatha tucked her legs back up to her chest and let out a long sigh, resting her dented head against her knees.
"But now big man can't hurt little girl anymore. You free from pain and working. You do what you want now" Rogh raid, risking a small grin.
"... It's 'Agatha' not 'little girl'..."
Rogh admired her spirit; for a child who had already been through so much in her young life, she was quick to speak when she needed to be. Rogh treasured the moment, he didn't know how long it would take for her to revert back to a small, terrified bundle of nerves shivering on the floor.
"Aggie. Now Aggie can choose what she want do" Rogh chimed.
The nickname was a name she never heard before, but she wasn't complaining.
"Perhaps..." Agatha sat in deep thought for a moment. Maybe it would be better this way?.
"Thou is certain I will not be lashed for stepping into the Ball Room or the Library?" Agatha said, turning her covered head to face Rogh.
"I been stickin' my face in ugly man's face for year now and he not look at me once. Trust me. No one see ghosts" Rogh assured. Agatha remained silent and rubbed at her elbow.
"Come, me show you" Rogh declared, heaving himself up from the step and holding his arms out for Agatha. Underneath the burlap sack, her face held great trepidation, but after a reassuring nod from Rogh, she shuffled to the edge of the table and wrapped her arms around his neck, accidentally jabbing him in the throat with her wrist at first. He plucked her off the table and took her upstairs into the sun lit house.
"Which one you say call you bad name?" Rogh questioned, his voice seemed determined, with a hint of mischief.
"That doth be the son of my Master. Charles" Agatha spoke, her voice still a little above a whisper. Rogh's brow furrowed for a moment before snapping back to normal.
"Oh! Me know where we find him"
It took them a while, but Rogh located the young lad. He sat, writing with quill and ink at a mahogany desk in the chart room, his eyes focused on the calligraphy.
Rogh placed Agatha down onto the windowsill not too far from Charles' desk.
"Okay, you watch..." Rogh looked like he was already holding back a fit of giggles when he rounded the desk and bent down beside the young man. Through the tiny, blurred gaps in the burlap sack, Agatha could see Rogh was less than a hand away from young Charles. She held her breath as she continued to watch, keeping her ears open for the booming voice of the young man's father.
Rogh waved a hand in front of Charles' face, gaining no reaction at all. Rogh then gave an exaggerated scowl, his bottom jaw jutting to the side and his eyes crossing to look at the bridge of his nose as he wiggled his hands beside his ears.
Agatha bit her tongue and looked toward the doorway, keeping watch to make sure they weren't being watched.
"Rogh! Thou will be lashed if thou is spotted by prying eyes"
"They no see. Do you, piggy boy?" Rogh chortled, raising his finger to the tip of his nose. He pushed his nose up and let loose with a series of grunts and snorts like a pig. Agatha held her breath and bit her lip; she'd be lying if she didn't find the situation humorous. Her fingers toyed with the lace on her corset and she tipped her head down in embarrassment.
"Ey! We go find father now, his turn!" Rogh wheezed, rushing back over to Agatha and scooping her off the windowsill. He sped through the rooms fast enough to the point where Agatha had needed to clutch onto his shoulder for stability. After a short while, they came across the Lord in the library, holding a glass of port in his hand and staring out at the fields from the window.
Rogh started and gently placed Agatha down onto a chair by one of the bookshelves, his face creased into a sheepish grin. He crept toward the Lord and rubbed his hands together briskly. After about 10 seconds of the vigorous motion, his hands stilled and he wiggled his fingers mischievously. He looked back over his shoulder at Agatha and nodded, waggling his brow and trembling with silent laughter.
Agatha watched with baited breath as Rogh moved his hand lower and poked his finger against the Lord's buttock. A faint 'crack' was heard and the Lord practically jumped out of his skin, the shock causing him to yelp and drop the half full glass of port to the floor.
Rogh erupted in thunderous laughter, reeling back and pointing at the Lord, his other hand rested against his stomach. Agatha, this time, laughed along with him, her hands momentarily forgot about the burlap sack and clamped down over her covered mouth.
"Rogh! He felt the pain thou gave him! Thou'll be drawn and quartered, Rogh!" Agatha tried to sound serious, but her rippling giggles flooded over her concern.
"Told you. We ghosts. We do what we want!"
