As most times I became interested watching films from students from institutes of films/cinema in generally, ftii (film & television institute of india) specificlly after Payal Kapadia's impact how used to make shorts now she did a great job making a feature one. the point is the films from students barely got my impression cause rare of them got that honst work, not with this short from Aisha Jain's Daastaan, a story about lives in a train met when there's that old man who tried to jump of train. worthy 10 minutes.

Gajendra Chauhan Reflects on Payal Kapadia's Cannes Win Amidst FTII Controversy
Amidst the celebrations surrounding Payal Kapadia’s recent triumph at the Cannes Film Festival 2024, former FTII Chairperson Gajendra Chauhan’s comments shed light on the intersection of talent, discipline, and controversy.
Tumblr media
A Clash of Perspectives
Payal Kapadia, now celebrated for her Grand Prix-winning film, once stood in opposition to Gajendra Chauhan’s appointment as the Chairperson of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). Her dissent, rooted in principle, fueled discussions on the importance of leadership and creative freedom within educational institutions.
Congratulations Amidst Controversy
In a recent interview with Times Now, Chauhan extended his congratulations to Kapadia for her remarkable achievement. However, when probed about her opposition to his appointment, he emphasized the distinction between talent and discipline. While acknowledging her talent, he underscored the significance of adherence to rules and regulations.
Reminiscing the FTII Days
Reflecting on the disciplinary actions taken against Kapadia and her fellow protesters during their time at FTII, Chauhan recalled the tumultuous period marked by protests and clashes. He recounted an incident involving the confinement of then-FTII director Prashant Pathrabe, highlighting the challenges faced by the administration amidst student unrest.
From Protest to Triumph
Kapadia’s journey from protestor to Cannes laureate exemplifies the resilience and determination of artists in navigating challenges. Her film, “All We Imagine As Light,” captivated audiences and earned accolades at one of the world’s most prestigious film festivals, showcasing the power of storytelling to transcend adversity.
Conclusion
As Payal Kapadia basks in the glory of her Cannes win, her story serves as a testament to the indomitable spirit of creative expression. While controversies may linger, her artistic brilliance shines through, inspiring aspiring filmmakers and artists to pursue their dreams against all odds.

2011, Open Windows gives me a feeling of Hope.
As part of our study at FTII, Pune, when we shot our award winning short film shot on 35mm film, "Prabhat Nagari", which was made around Prabhat Studio, these windows played an important role in the film. And as they are old, they have their own tales and the workers and students also have connected their tales. The tales when windows are closed and when studio lights start and film is shot, also the tales of night, silence and the winds that speak and only a few feel the past speaking through these windows.

Monophia My sweet little dove
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Info on the drawing - I changed the TV's look to match the in-game model and changed the mono's appearance to match my interpretation of the TV boy (such as scars, bandages on his feet, a bite mark from six, and mono the rash). Added dead doves (Mourning doves Mixed with bleeding heart doves) and eggs from the easter egg room in Very Little Nightmares.
I like the idea that Mono is slumped over the TV as if he fell onto it, so I mimicked that Idea with the doves to make it seem that they died on impact.
Credit goes to @anime-grimmy-art of course!
Extra - Here is my entry for Grimmy's FTIYS challenge, I'm not truly interested in winning any of the prizes - I just wanted to use this challenge as an exercise
I have other entries that are unfinished that will likely be posted after the contest ends (But like I said before, I'm not too interested in the prizes lol)
This was super fun and I hope to do more in the future, also Grimmy is an amazing artist and I'm so glad to be a part of this contest/experience.

UPDATE: NEW DEADLINE DEC 8TH
Welcome to the Finish this in your style!
In contrast to a DTIYS, where the goal is to recreate an existing piece, the FTIYS is about making a provided sketch your own.
All necessary infos are on the slides, but here a summary:
Deadline is December 1st.
(Can be extended if asked for.)
Sketches can be found here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/10xPkvv588FX8mNj5AdNAWT8Y0TW0KRWK?usp=sharing
There’s only 2 rules:
- It has to be the same character
- It should be obvious which sketch the finished piece is based on.
Other than that, you are allowed to work as freely as you want. Just colouring the sketch, actually finishing it, or heck, even going beyond that. You also don’t have to keep true to my art style! You can totally put your own spin on it. As long as the concept is upheld, it’s viable for entry.
Entries should either be posted with the tag #grimmyftiys (and tag me), or dm-ed to me directly. You’re also allowed to work on as many sketches as your heart desires, but mind you, all of them will be counted as one entry.
Prices:
1st place - Full Body, Full Render Character Illustration (proper lineart)
2nd place - Half Body, Simple Style Character Illustration (somewhat messy lineart)
3rd place - Bust, Flat Colour Character Illustration (coloured sketch)
Depending on the amount of entries, I also might do some sketches for honorable mentions!
I made sure to put a wide variety of sketches. I have some really rough ones, some more clean ones, some borderline lineart. Some are never seen sketches, some are sketches of stuff I’ve posted. I also included a ton of different fandoms - e.g. Undertale, Genshin, Trigun or Little Nightmares, just to name a few. I’m sure there’s something for everyone!
I hope you guys have fun with this!!!!
Also, on a side note, you can freely use these sketches for practice or just for fun, even if you DONT wanna participate. But if you do end up uploading them somewhere, do please remember to credit me, thaaaanks.

Here it finally is, the summary video of the FTIYS!
The intro animation might seem a bit exaggerated, but that’s what it felt like for me. I would never have guessed so many artists would take part in this. I’m really glad you guys liked the idea and had fun with it!
The tumblr based artists will be listed under the cut below, the instagram artists you can find on my corresponding instagram post.
I did, however, make this a competition, and a competition has its winners:
3rd Place - @spectatingcat
This piece blew me away when I first saw it. It’s even more moody than my initial sketch and the added texture and especially the doves make this piece so RAW.
2nd Place - kyoto_mirror (instagram) Man, i absolutely LOVE these two pieces. Not only did you take my half-assed redesign of an edgy, old OC and made it into something so fun, but in general, the way you colour and shade has so much life in it, it’s mesmerizing.
1st Place - chisai_mono_ (instagram) The decision making process was very biased, but no decision was as biased as this one, bcs I am absolutely in love with chisai_mono’s artstyle, so when I saw them make an entry it immediately shot in the upper echelon. And let’s be honest, how could I not put this at the top? The colours are so comfy and warm, the water texture looks amazing and in general, this piece just makes me happy everytime I look at it.
BONUS - @mom00ru63 I had to add a Bonus cos MOH MADE A FREAKING ANIMATION OUT OF NOT NECESSARILY FITTING SKETCHES. That’s a whole nother level of dedication, which in my eyes deserves a bonus place, or rather said, a second 1st place.
@ our winners, pls dm me on what you would like me to draw for your prize!
Thanks so much for everyone’s submission, I’m so glad you had fun, and I hope you’re gonna join me the next time I host something like this! EDIT: The sketches will stay up until Sun, 11th January, so if you wanna nab some for practice or just for fun, now's the time! I will delete the folder after tmrw.
