I have mixed feelings about OB because, while I think his character was necessary for the reasons you state, i.e. explaining the timey wimpy stuff, that being said his character could have been written much better. Key is a fantastic actor as is evidenced by the award recently won, so his talents were wasted in this show. They should have given OB more personality and more to do in the show.

Completely agree about Sylvie. Her character was completely pointless. The same storyline could have been achieved without her. I was actually excited back at the beginning of season one for Loki to finally at long last get a love interest ... and here we have another wasted opportunity. This would have been the perfect opportunity to bring in Loki's wife from the comics: Sigyn. There is so much that could have been done story-wise if the writers had chosen Sigyn instead of Sylvie. Sylvie was immature, stubborn, didn't listen to reason, couldn't admit her faults, and the way she reacted to Loki's sacrifice in the finale made me grit my teeth and reach for a pint of ice cream with which to calm down. Total biatch.

Overall I've still liked the series ... for the most part, but it could have been better.

It still irritates the hell out of me how well Sylvie seems to have accepted Loki's absence. I mean, come on, Loki SACRIFICED himself so that in the end she could come back and live her happy life the way she wanted. But in this scene she seems to be talking about the fucking wind, they ruined her so much in this second season.

While Mobius seems SAD AS HELL. ALONE in a new life that he still doesn't know how to deal with and that he didn't ask for, without the presence of the person he liked most. He looks so devastated, like someone came and destroyed his favorite jetski, when in fact the only thing destroyed was his and Loki's chance to ride that damn jetski TOGETHER.

if it wasn’t already made clear before, this episode realllly laid it out for us:

okay, but here's the thing that makes me so mad:

Loki's ending makes perfect sense for his character.

When we are first introduced to him in the MCU, his primary desire, the things that motivates him most, is power, but also to be loved because of his power.

Loki's arc from Endgame to the show is about how he only wants power because he thinks it means he won't be alone; his greatest fear, the thing he has really been wanting this entire fucking time, is to not be alone. He only realizes this because he has matured and grown up so much over the course of this show that he can recognize and admit that to himself and Sylvie.

He has lost everyone he has ever loved, and he used to think that power is the thing that could get them back, and in the end, he ends up alone. That's fucking infuriating.

Everything Loki has ever done was so that people would love him, and he gets that. He has a family now, and not because of his power. Loki was powerless for the majority of his time with his friends; they love him because of who he is. But at the end, he gets the power that he wanted, he gets the throne, and it takes him away from his loved ones. It's a sacrifice, a burden, not glorious but heartbreaking.

His arc is flipped on its head; it's a tragedy and a curse and it destroys him. But he does it anyway, for of the people he loves. It was always going to end this way, you see? The tree, the god of stories, the glorious purpose. It was sitting right in front of us.

what i absolutely adore about mobius is that he never stops being kind. EVER. he has gone through so much and no matter what happens he always chooses kindness over anything else. we've seen him comfort strangers countless times without hesitation because he's just THAT good and he would never turn away from anyone in distress. even when he's clearly upset he's still kind enough to explain to victor what he's drinking and not even be annoyed at his constant interrupting but just say "hold on a second" in a gentle tone then focus on him again DESPITE EVERYTHING GOING ON to get him hot chocolate bc why wouldn't he do so? he doesn't question these actions because they come naturally to him, kindness is in his nature. why shouldn't he try to lighten the mood and be kind while they wait for their end? why shouldn't he reassure and comfort everyone around him while he's actively falling apart? these aren't questions for him bc he's at his core the kindest person in the show and he will always ALWAYS have time and space to be kind. god.

the entire season they've shown sylvie perpetually being okay to just walk away from the fray and getting no consequences whatsoever. which would be ok since she doesn't rlly care about them like loki does. but in the end she just moves on so fast after she watched loki isolate himself and go off JUST to fix her mistake.......

meanwhile mobius is there, frozen in that time, left behind by the person he's an "expert" on not only bc of his job but bc of their friendship, him quitting the job that was his entire life, because loki has left and his previous purpose didn't have loki anymore

it's just fucked up how everyone else got their happy endings (good for them) except for loki and mobius. they're apart, separated once again, looking miserable in their last shots. just like last season.

So...let me get this straight again once and for all because I can't believe this isn't just a very, very bad fever dream.

After horribly killing him off in Infinity War, they decide to bring him back as a complete caricature of himself, basically making him an incompetent bumbling fool, to let their insufferable Mary Sue shine who shits all over him with the rest of the other characters for a whole damn season and then they reward him, after all this unnecessary additional torment, with the responsibility to fix the mess caused by Mary Sue, holding the timelines together for all eternity, doomed to be alone forever...something they also made him say he is the most scared of, multiple times.

IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE WEIRD.

It's about two gods that share the same soul mark (temporal aura) across timelines. It's about Loki recognizing in Sylvie a piece of himself and vice versa, even when Sylvie is supposed to be a Loki she's not like him at all and that's why he falls in love. Not because she's him but because she brings into his life all he lacks: love, belonging, purpose.

Loki would (should) never have an ordinary romance and for that I'm grateful.
