JACK THE GIANT KILLER

originally this was a kind of personal visual vibe test: I'm still turning some thoughts around about jack in my head (altho I have finished assembling the skeleton of a story and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens when I start to press at it) but I really liked how it turned out so I'm posting it as it's own illustration :)

the first post about this idea is over here, but I've fine tuned it down a bit so that the story begins with jack finding the body of a giant while he's out in the woods one day, and the story spirals out of hand before he can stop it.

it's been interesting to read up on jack tales from a literary analysis point of view while I figure this story out!! and through the power of more coffee, I think. I'm close to pinning down an underlying theme I'd really like to bite into. I just need to condense it down to a couple of sentences instead of several paragraphs.

i think sacred music in the kryn dynasty would be very cyclical and repetitive in form to symbolize the idea that life is a continuous thing (at least those who are consecuted right right) and is a cycle across lifetimes and yeah

Idea: Killian is tasked with rescuing princess Carey from the clutches of a dragon. But when she gets to the castle, she realizes that princess Carey IS the dragon, and that she is happier in this form. In the end they run away together!

Tried something different with the main piece because I wanted it to feel like a ‘cover’ of the story. Inspired by medieval style tapestries and illuminated manuscripts, but slightly stylized.

the halloween special, i mean, Medieval AU continues>> the arrival of the grievously wounded Kingsguard disrupts Bastien's very isolated, very drunk rural village life - but in much different way than he expected. somehow, miraculously, Wolfgang slowly recovers, and the two of them spend many evenings sharing wine and stories by the fireside, finding each other to be pleasant company.

It would be really difficult for me to explain all of the context surrounding this painting, but I'm going to try.

After the debacle of the tournament, her imprisonment and subsequent freedom for the hanging of Hartwin; Belladonna is brought back under her family's heel. Although technically free, it's a unique form of torture. Two years pass and she is barred from leaving the castle, even for a moment. Those around her pretend she doesn't exist. Days turn into months; her hair grows and her body weakens, neglected in her grief. She's mad with anger and sorrow. Crying, praying, pacing, and screaming are her daily activities. Usually, she combines them.

This is a specific night deep in December's grip, one laced in dread. Y'know. Anyways.

Watching the worst takes I've ever seen on why Medieval Stasis in the fantasy genre is still a thing. Apparently it's because 1) Old Race Boomers, 2) Medieval period is the right setting for dragons and those sick House Dynasties, 3) Big Empire wants to suppress technology and science, bro.

Cool. So all I heard is, 1) Lack of character diversity, 2) Are You Fucking Stupid and Adults want YA sorting caps too, 3) Have you never considered Magic Research as a career opportunity and how Magical Art might be emboldened as a result?
