What is up?

Another past midnight journal entry.

I have been trying to decide which digital camera to bring for the upcoming HK trip with the friends, and I came up with the decision to bring the latest acquisition: the X-Pro 3. However, I have also decided that the primary lens I will be bringing along is the Voigtlander 23mm f/1.2, a manual focus lens for Fuji cameras. I would like to challenge myself on this trip photography-wise and put some creative constraints, at least tool-wise. I will still pack the Fujifilm 56mm f/1.2 though. My friends still deserve a banger of a travel portrait, of course. Or two.

For the analog part, I've decided that I will carry with me the Hasselblad. (Definitely not the Pentax.) And I will also be bringing the M4 as part of reinforcing the the manual focus challenge, and also the Contax T2. And of course, a bunch of film.

Oh, by the way, as part of my quest to finish a bunch of books this year, I've already agreed to buy my colleague's Kindle Paperwhite which he won in the office Christmas raffle. May it help me whip some pages from that reading list.

I have been pretty much consistent using the corresponding notebooks for events, and the other one for diary entries and what not, which is good since I haven't been this active in jotting down my thoughts ever since I dunno... since I maintained a Blogspot? Haha!

For the sample photos, I've shot with the Fujifilm X-T4 and Fujinon XF35mm F2 lens, combined with the diffusion filter and VND filter. Using diffusion and VND filter for a fashion shoot? Yes, this is the secret to achieving the High Fashion magazine look when shooting SOOC JPEG. Guess what? I only adjusted the highlights using Fujifilm X Raw Studio, and that's it. It looks amazing. When looking for the best natural lighting, it is crucial to consider the location's surroundings. The ideal setting is an area with buildings that reflect and bounce light. The reflected light can produce a soft and diffused effect that will enhance your photos' overall quality. In this particular instance, the photoshoot was scheduled for around 11.30 am, a time when the sun is up and shining brightly. I tried to shoot under the shade as much as possible to avoid the harsh shadow casting on the model. Naturally, it is essential to remember that the high fashion SOOC recipe mentioned here is primarily intended for recreational purposes, personal shoots, or com card photoshoots. If you're looking to conduct a professional fashion photoshoot for a well-established company, you may need to put in a significant amount of effort. Ultimately, the decision is yours. When this was initially unveiled, I have to admit that I didn’t really pay much attention to the hype as I feel like I have a general understanding of Fujifilm cameras and none of the stand out features of their cameras never really interested me. I’ve been down that green road before with the X100F and the X70. Both excellent cameras in their own right, but not enough for me to actually settle…

@myfunleader_official kindly sent me a copy of their #Caplens 18mm f8 to test. Tks, guys. This is a very thin and unobtrusive lens with a field of view of 28mm on a cropped sensor, or 18mm on FF, with a fixed f8 aperture. It's available for all major mounts. 28mm is a distance I hardly use on my everyday, but now and then I really enjoy experimenting something different to see where it takes me, and what I liked most about this lens is that you can get very close to the action, unnoticed, and still get a lot of the scene in focus - great for street photography or shots from the hip. It's liberating not to think about the diaphragm, and at f8 you always have most of the scene in focus. It does have a focus stick on its body, which is easy to use, though it took me some time to get used to it, coming from Fuji lenses. At this price tag, of course you shouldn't expect the same level of sharpness, detail and color accuracy from a regular lens, but I did enjoy the analog feel you get from its images - a bit like a digital Lomo. That said, the lens is still capable of producing sharp images in the center of the frame. By shooting against the light, you'll also get a lot of flare, but this has never bothered me, I even like these weird effects. Take a look at some images I've made and draw your own conclusions.
